ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR 2026


This is the admissions criteria for applicants who are writing or have written the South African National Senior
Certificate (NSC) or those who are writing or have written non-South African school-leaving examinations.

1. SCHOOL-LEAVERS WRITING THE NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE (NSC)

1.1 To be eligible to be considered, you need:

(a) For MBChB:


• A pass in English (at Home or First Additional Language level) at 65% or above
• A pass in Mathematics at 70% or above
• A pass in Physical Sciences at 70% or above
• A minimum of 70% in your next 3 best subjects excluding Life Orientation.
• A minimum APS of 450
• NBT scores of Intermediate for AL, QL and Mathematics

(b) For BSc Physiotherapy:


• A pass in English (at Home or First Additional Language level) at 65% or above
• A pass in Mathematics at 60% or above
• A pass in Physical Sciences OR Life Sciences at 65% or above
• A minimum of 60% in your next 3 best subjects excluding Life Orientation.
• A minimum APS of 360
• NBT scores of Intermediate for AL, QL and Mathematics

(c) For BSc Occupational Therapy, BSc Audiology and BSc Speech-Language Pathology:
• A pass in English (at Home or First Additional Language level) at 65% or above
• A pass in Mathematics at 60% OR Mathematical Literacy at 70% or above
• A pass in Physical Sciences OR Life Sciences at 65% or above
• A minimum of 60% in your next 3 best subjects excluding Life Orientation.
• A minimum APS of 340
• NBT scores of Intermediate** for AL, QL and Mathematics (applicants taking Mathematical Literacy
are exempted from the NBT Mathematics Test)

1.2 Point scores required to secure an offer.

Please see the 2026 Undergraduate Prospectus at UG PROSPECTUS 2026 for guidelines about performance levels
usually required. Final cut-off points depend on the competition in a given cycle. Only applicants whose final NSC
results meet the Band A requirements are guaranteed an offer.

2 NON-SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOL-LEAVING EXAMINATIONS

2.1 To be eligible to be considered, applicants need the following:


All programs
• Six different subjects
• Subjects must meet the requirements for a Matric Exemption.
• Required NBT performance.

Program-specific requirements.
2.2 How your point score is calculated:

We use rating tables to convert Cambridge A Levels or AS Levels /O-level/ HIGCSE/IGCSE and IB results by
counting the subjects required. Please see the 2026 Undergraduate Prospectus at UG PROSPECTUS 2026 for
the rating table.

2.3 Point scores required to secure an offer

Please see the Undergraduate Prospectus for guidelines about performance levels usually required. Final cut-off
points depend on the competition in a given cycle.
