GENERAL VISUAL INSPECTION OF LATERAL AVIONIC COMPARTMENT (EWIS)
NOTE: This is a Zonal General Visual Inspection which contains an EWIS (Electrical Wiring Int
erconnection System) procedure. The definition of EWIS is given in ESPM 20-33-11.

A. Get Access
(1) Open access doors 812, 822 and 824 Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-002.
(2) Open access door 813 Ref. AMM TASK 52-61-12-010-001.
(3) Remove the floor panels from frame 16 to frame 20 in the forward cabin utility-are
a Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-000-001.
(4) Remove the entrance stairs Ref. AMM TASK 52-61-11-000-001.
(5) Remove the airstairs drain panel from the stair bay Ref. AMM TASK 53-19-41-000-
004.
(6) Lift the insulation blankets sufficiently to do the inspection.

B. Preparation of the Inspection Area
(1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspecti
on of the area.
(2) If the inspection area is not sufficiently clean, clean it with
Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material Ref. 08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Co
tton - (Material Ref. 14SBA1).
(3) If there is a Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if it does not let you do
a satisfactory inspection, remove the TPS layer

4. Procedure

A. Inspection
(1) Do a general visual inspection of the lateral avionic compartment (zones 125, 126
and 129) for damage or discontinuities.
(2) Make sure that there is no:
(a) Corrosion:
If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for the corrosion
types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection
Ref. SRM 51-22-00.
(b) Cracks, scratches, gouges, dents, creases or other damage:
If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for the
damage types, classification and corrective action
Ref. SRM 51-11-00.
(3) Make sure that all the installations (wiring, ducting and piping) are attached correc
tly.

B. Temporary Protection System
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TEMPORARY PROTECTION SYSTEM (TPS) TYPE 3 OR
1+2 ON THE MOVABLE COMPONENTS. USE ONLY TPS TYPE 1 GRADE
2. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE MECHANISMS WI
LL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
(1) If you removed the TPS layer at the ”Preparation of the Inspection Area” paragrap
h, apply a new layer of
Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing & Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Mate
rial Ref. 12ADB1) Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001.
(2) If you did not remove the TPS layer at the ”Preparation of the Inspection Area” par
agraph, do a check of the condition and integrity of the TPS layer

(3) If the TPS layer has local damage, remove the damaged TPS layer and apply a ne
w layer of
Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing & Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Mate
rial Ref. 12ADB1) Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001.

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Put the insulation blankets back in position.
(3) Install the airstairs drain panel on the stair bay Ref. AMM TASK 53-19-41-400-004.
(4) Install the entrance stairs Ref. AMM TASK 52-61-11-400-001.
(5) Install the floor panels between frame 16 and frame 20 in the forward cabin utility
-area Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-400-001.
