Final Year Project Details:
A. Project Title: IOT Based Automatic Color Sorting System using a Robotic Arm.
B. Project Start Date: 02-10-2023
C. Expected Project Finish Date: 15-06-2024
D. Project Summary (Give a brief summary of your Project describing how your Project Idea is Innovative)
The primary objective of this project is to develop an automated object sorting system using
Arduino. This system employs a conveyor belt to transport objects, color sensors to detect the
color of the objects, and a robotic arm to sort the objects into designated bins based on their
color. The project integrates multiple components, including sensors, servos, a motor driver, an
LCD, and an ESP32 module, to create an efficient and reliable sorting mechanism. The
Automated Object Sorting System Using Arduino is designed to streamline the sorting of objects
by color using an integrated setup of sensors, motors, and wireless connectivity. The system
employs an Arduino Uno to control the process, utilizing a color sensor to detect the colors of
objects transported via a conveyor belt. IR sensors at both ends of the conveyor detect the
presence of objects, prompting the conveyor to start or stop accordingly. A motor driver
(L298N) controls the conveyor belt's movement, while servo motors manage the robotic arm's
actions to pick and place objects into designated bins based on their detected color. An LCD
display provides real-time status updates, and the ESP32 module facilitates remote monitoring
and control via the Blynk app. Challenges such as accurate color detection and synchronization
of components were addressed through careful calibration and programming. The system
effectively demonstrates the integration of automation and IoT technologies, providing a reliable
solution for color-based object sorting.
E. Benefits of the Project:
• Efficiency and Speed: Automating the sorting process significantly increases the speed and
efficiency compared to manual sorting, allowing for higher throughput and productivity.
• Accuracy: The use of precise sensors and programmed thresholds ensures accurate color detection
and sorting, reducing the likelihood of human error and ensuring consistency.
• Cost-Effective: Implementing this system can reduce labor costs associated with manual sorting.
Additionally, using affordable components like Arduino and ESP32 makes the system economical to
build and maintain.
• Scalability: The system can be easily scaled or modified to sort different types of objects or add
more sorting criteria, making it adaptable to various industrial applications.
• Remote Monitoring and Control: With the integration of the Blynk app, users can remotely
monitor the system’s performance and control operations, providing flexibility and convenience.
• Real-Time Feedback: The LCD display offers real-time updates on the system’s status, allowing
operators to quickly identify and address any issues.
• Reduced Manual Labor: Automating the sorting process reduces the need for manual intervention,
which can decrease the risk of repetitive strain injuries and other work-related health issues.
• Educational Value: This project serves as an excellent educational tool for learning about
automation, robotics, IoT, and sensor integration, providing hands-on experience with real-world
applications.
