Work Progress during October 2009 by Area or System:
1. General:
Carollo Systems, in conjunction with the Agency and Western Water, began Control Strategy Field Testing (SFT) of the Chlorine Contact Tank and Effluent Pump Station Systems. Operational testing of these systems will follow the strategy field testing and operational training provided by Carollo Engineers. Western Water (WW) maintained the SWPPP best management practices (BMPs) for wet weather. One rain day was incurred in October. Western Water continues routine weekly safety tailgate meetings, weekly safety checks, as well as the monthly safety audit performed by WWs safety officer. Written reports of all safety meetings, checks and audits have been submitted for the record.
2. Polymer Facility:
Subcontractor, Innovative Steel, installed handrail sections at the Polymer Facility. Western Water will return work forces to this area prior to the start up of the Primary Clarifier systems.

3. Gallery A & B Improvements, including Grit Chamber 3 and Headworks
Western Water began mechanical installation work in Gallery A Extension, including pumps and piping. Subcontractor, Collier Building Systems, installed skylights at the Headworks Building over the new perforated filter screens and compactors. The major storm event on October 6 showed the need for some changes to be made to the 3Water system and configuration of some piping at the new perforated filter screens and washer compactors in the Headworks. Western Water is working diligently with the Agency and the screen vendor, Waste Tech, to provide workable solutions to the issues identified.
4. Primary Clarifiers 6 & 7
Western Water completed the concrete work at Primary Clarifiers 6 and 7. Western Water continued installation of the channel air line at the new primary clarifiers. They also installed the fiberglass reinforced plastic pickets in the Primary Clarifier Influent Channel and continued installation of the 3Water piping for hose bibs and spray bars. Subcontractor, Lotus, applied elastomeric deck coating to the Primary Clarifier deck and slipresistant coating to the manholes on the deck.
5. Chlorine Contact Tanks (CCT) 5 & 6
Western Water installed the davit hoist for the chemical induction mixers. Subcontractor, Innovative Steel, completed installation of the stainless steel handrail around the tanks and other openings. Carollo Systems, in conjunction with the Agency and Western Water, began strategy field testing (SFT) of the Chlorine Contact Tank control systems.
6. Effluent Pump Station (EPS)
Subcontractor, Innovative Steel, installed handrail at the two exterior stairways. Subcontractor, Collier Building Systems, installed skylights. Carollo Systems, in conjunction with the Agency and Western Water, began strategy field testing (SFT) of the Effluent Pump Station control systems.
7. Site improvements
Western Water completed installation of the guardrail along the west end of the plant access road. They also complete the cross gutter over the Ross Valley Interceptor and along the east end of access road. They also installed bollards at various locations, including the fire hydrants, post indicator valve and other structures. Subcontractor, Cats 4 U, continued site work in preparation for paving, including off-haul of excessive soil and preparation of road subgrade. Paving is expected to be completed in November.
8. Aeration Tanks
Western Water completed the work to most of the aeration tank gates. Two gates, requiring off-set motor drives, will be completed in November. Loop Acceptance Testing, Complete

End-to-End Testing has been completed and Strategy Field Testing of these gates is underway.

10. Apprentices
Eight apprentices (five electrical, two carpenters, and one laborer) worked on the project throughout the month of October.

Change Issue Status Request OPN There is not enough space in the south wall of the headworks electrical room , to take all the needed conduits out of the room. The plan would be to install the MCC sections, take the conduits out the top, head south into the gallery etc. We may suggest we install gutters from the electrical room out into the gallery, add j-boxes, and then extend conduit from there. Please review and advise. Conduit P-034 is the only conduit shown from LP - 50.1 to the LC 5.1 . It is called out as a 3/4 " C with 3 # 12 conductors. I believe this is for the photo cell and contactor. 1. Is this correct ? 2. Do you want to change this to a 2 " conduit and add wiring from LP 50.1 to LC - 5.1 for the lighting circuits? 3. Do all primary clarifier light poles get controlled by the LC 5.1 ? Dated 9/18/2009

Fire Alarm Phone Lines

The fire alarm system will require outside phone lines ( 10/20/2009 2) . I believe (1) can be shared , but (1) must be dedicated to the alarm panel at the EPS. We have installed phone wiring to the telephone panel as shown on the drawings. Please have the phone lines installed and inform WWC once ready for connection to the new fire alarm panel in the EPS. Spec Section 10520-2 requires the installation of (5) fire 10/22/2009 extinguishers, (5) cabinets, and (5) orange flags. Spec Section 10520-2 indicates the units are to be installed as directed by the OWNER. Please provide the (5) locations per Spec Section 10520-2.
