Biomedical instrument & Human Body than & then only use this instrument on the Human
body. Here you are working with Human Body. If you have not received training or proper
knowledge of human body, then use only particular Simulator for study purpose.
This is a biomedical educational Trainer. Signal level in biomedical is very
low. These instrument must be studied before putting the unit into operation. This manual
provides the necessary information for the installation and operation of the instrument.
Make sure that all the connections are proper. Do not short any output of the instrument.
Before connecting input or output, confirm specifications, then connect input or output to
other instruments. Use & connect Instrument as per given steps. Each & every step is
important, if skipped any step there will be no output or the instrument will not work. Due
to wrong connections the instrument might get damaged. Company will not be held

2. Introduction
EOG Amplifier is used to measure the of eye activity, eye UP, Down, Right &
Left & also study of effect of light on eye. Using this amplifier detect and amplification
of bioelectric potential of the eye by electrodes. This is a Bipolar Electrode system. In
this system there are three electrodes, one is Ground & other two are active & reference.
Electrodes wire is provided with 2mm pin connector with disposable & Velcro belt with
disc electrodes. The 2mm sockets are provided on the system. On the system there is gain
facility to adjust gain. Also there are 4mm sockets to connect the system to the storage
DSO or Computer or Recorder (For recorder check the technical specification). Use only
storage mode on DSO, so the signal is visualised properly. The signal level is from 0.1 to
5V & it’s depends on the placement of electrodes & conduction of electrodes. This is
educational trainer use only for study purpose.

4. Installation Procedure
EOG Amplifier
1. Connect the instrument to the mains.
2. Instrument ON by mains Switch, the switch will be lighted.
3. Now switch ON DSO, DSO on storage mode, and Mode switch at DC position
4. Time / Div Knob on the mS Division. (Change the position as per signal)
5. Voltage / Div Knob on the 1V. (Change the position as per signal)
6. Now connect the DSO to the instrument.
7. Check the ground; if not proper make arrangement for that.
8. Connect the electrodes to system, Put Mode switch at Self-test & adjust self
test knob & Gain knob as per requirement.
Now put mode switch position at EOG, make all Leads of electrodes
short, so on the DSO there is DC line
9. Now connect electrodes to body at forehead. Clean the skin where the electrode
place & apply small amount of an electrolyte paste (conductive jelly) on
electrodes or use disposable electrodes. Now connect the electrodes wire see as in
below. Initially there is noise, wait five minutes for signal stable. Do not make
any eye & body moments & do not touch to ground or any metal part. If you’re in
chair set in resting position. If there is any small moments or somebody touch to
your body signal go up & down.
Example of Electrodes Placement
10. Now see the signal on the DSO. & Make eyes activity up or down, left or right.
11. Now vary the Gain knob of amplifier or Voltage / Div knob of DSO as per
requirement also varies Time / Div as per requirement.
12. If any noise is found on DSO, check the Ground. If Ground or electrodes are
open, on DSO there is noise.

7. Description
Electro-oculograph is the recording of the bio potential generated by the
movement of the eyeball. Potential of EOG is picked by surface electrodes. EOG
electrodes are paced near the eye. The electrodes are placed up & down of eye to pick up
Vertical (up & down) movement of the eyeball & electrodes are placed right & left to
pick up horizontal (right & left) movement of the eyeball in the form of voltage.
The Electroculogram is used for the diagnosis of certain neurological disorders &
also to ascertain the level of anaesthesia during surgery. Study movement of eyeballs.
8. Electrodes & Placement
Electrodes are employed bipolar recording techniques. Figure illustrates this
technique.
Note: - In manual some terms are for study & reference only. Also it is not possible to
fulfil all conditions in a lab as in a hospital like Patient, Saline, signal, Placements of
Electrodes, Ground, etc., assume these conditions or use simulator where every
necessary.
9. Block Diagram
The Electrodes placed on the forehead, pick up the EOG signal. This electrical
parameter (EOG) is passed through a Buffer. The buffer output is fed to a Differential
Amplifier which is with high impedance, good CMRR, low gain and higher frequency
response.
The Amplified EOG signal is then passed through High and Low Cut-off filter.
The high cut-off filter passes lower frequency up to 20Hz and low cut-off filter passes
higher frequencies above 0.5Hz. This block act as a band pass filter that passes filter,
frequencies from 0.5Hz to 20 Hz. This Band passed signal is passes through a Gain stage
block for amplification.
The 50Hz notch filter cuts off 50Hz signal that lies in the EOG signal. Again the
signal is amplified by gain adjustment block and fed to the output to DSO or Monitor.
Important Note: -
This is a biomedical educational Trainer. Signal level in biomedical is very low.
Before using instrument read the Installation procedure. Make an all proper connection.
Don’t short output. Before connecting input or output, conform specification, then connect
input or output to other instruments. Instrument use & connect as per given step. Each &
every step is important, if any one passes the step there is no output or instrument not
working. Because of wrong connection may be instrument damage or output connected
instrument may be damage. Company not responsible for this type of activity & no
warranty & no repayment of instrument in this case.
10. General Precautions
11.1 Mains Supply
* Check the Power line voltage and frequency.
* If the line voltage deviates the specified, use a Voltage Stabiliser.
* Use three-pin socket with proper grounding. Grounding is an absolute
necessity. If 3-pin socket do not have a proper earth connection, Rear panel
10mm socket is provided to connect the earth & make the proper ground.
* Keep the Equipment free from vibration and shock.
* Do not touch the Equipment with hands with Gel.
* Before conducting EOG measurement, confirm the normal and safe
operation of machine as well as correct and complete connections of cords
and wires.
* The instrument must not be altered or modified in any way.
11.2 Handling Precautions
The handling of patient electrodes and the controls of this instrument must always
be entrusted only to qualified medical person.
* EOG amplifier is a very sensitive electronic instrument. The quality signals are
easily affected by the use of unclean badly connected or improperly placed
electrodes. Electrodes must also be cleaned out with water and soap after each
use, to prevent permanent corrosion damage to the surfaces as well as to maintain
hyzone.
* The instrument should be protected from damage due to accidental spray from
liquids. Protect instrument from fluids and if spilled over the instrument, they will
short circuit or damage components and other surfaces.
* At time of practical make the connection as per operating procedure.
Do not short test point. At test point connect only DSO.
Do not use damaged power cord, Electrodes, connector & other peripherals.
Clean the Electrodes & instrument after & before each use.
After the use put the instrument in the Box or Plastic bag. Protect instrument from
dust
