Methods:

1. Measure and record the mass of a peanut.

________________________________________________________________________
2. Measure 25cm3 of water in a boiling tube

________________________________________________________________________
3. Measure the temperature of the water (T1) and record it.

6. Hold the peanut in the Bunsen flame until it starts to burn.
___________________________________________________________________________________
7. Hold the burning peanut under the boiling tube so that the flame heats up the water.
____________________________________________________________________________________
8. If the peanut goes out, relight it in the Bunsen flame and relight it under the boiling tube.
____________________________________________________________________________________
9. Repeat steps 6 to 8 until the peanut will no longer relight.
___________________________________________________________________________________
10. Measure the temperature of the water again(T2) and record it.
____________________________________________________________________________________
11. Calculate the energy per gram of a peanut using the formula:
___________________________________________________________________________________
12. Energy per gram = (T2 – T1) x 25 x 4.2 joules
