Part (1)
Question (1) [15 marks]
For the network of Fig. 1, assume 𝑉𝐶𝐸sat = 0 V determine:
a) Transistor currents
b) 𝑉𝐶𝐸 , 𝑉𝐵𝐸 , 𝑉𝐶𝐵
c) How high can 𝑉𝐶𝐸 go without exceeding a 𝑃𝐷(max) of 0.5 W?
d) Determine the region of operation of this transistor.
e) The value of 𝐼𝐵 necessary to produce saturation.
f) The value of 𝑉𝐵𝐵 required for saturation.
g) The value of 𝑅𝐵 required for saturation (keeping 𝑉𝐵𝐵 = 3 V) Fig. 1
h) How the circuit should operate if the collector terminal is left opened.
Question (2) [15 marks]
a) Design the emitter-bias configuration of Fig. 2 to have the following

specifications: 𝐼CQ = 2 𝐼Csat , 𝐼Csat = 8 mA, 𝑉CEsat = 0 V, 𝑉C = 18 V,
and 𝛽 = 110.
b) Repeat the design for collector feedback configuration, with the same
specifications indicated in (a)
c) Use the two circuits designed before. If 𝛽 is increased with 50% from
its value, determine the percentage of change for 𝐼C and 𝑉CE for each
circuit.
d) What can be implied from the results obtained in (c). Fig. 2
Question (3) [15 marks]
For the network of Fig. 3:
a) Determine 𝑟𝑒 and Sketch the re-equivalent model.
b) Determine AvNL , Zi , and Zo .
c) Determine AvL , AvS , and 𝐴𝑖 if a load 𝑅𝐿 = 4.7 k is connected to the
output and a voltage source with 𝑅𝑆 = 1 k is connected to the input.
d) Change 𝑅𝑆 to1.5 k, Determine the voltage gains 𝐴𝑣L and 𝐴𝑣S . What is the
effect of increasing 𝑅𝑆 on both voltage gains?
e) Determine the voltage gain 𝐴𝑣L and AvS with 𝑅𝐿 = 8.2 k . What is the
effect of increasing 𝑅𝐿 on both voltage gains?
f) How will Zi , Zo and AvNL change with changing levels of 𝑅𝐿 and 𝑅𝑆 ?
