A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 10

(MARCH 17, 2025)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
a) define research and explain its importance in real-life situations.
b) identify the steps in formulating and conducting a statistical mini-research
c) demonstrate teamwork and cooperation during group discussion and
activities
d) apply the steps of mini-research by collecting, organizing, presenting,
analyzing, and interpreting data.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Formulates statistical mini-research
Sub-Topic: What is research and research paper, importance of research, steps
in formulating and conducting a statistical mini-research.
References: Mathematics 10 – Quarter 4- Module 5
Materials: Visual Aids, PowerPoint presentation, Whiteboard and Whiteboard
Marker.

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
“Everybody please stand
and let us feel the presence
of our Almighty God.”

(Alexander, kindly lead the

prayer) (In the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit………
2. Greetings AMEN)
“Good morning, class!”

“How are you today?” “Good morning, Ma’am”

3. Classroom Management (Students respond accordingly)

“Before you take your
seats, kindly pick up the
pieces of papers or trash
around you and arrange
your chairs silently and
properly.”
(Students will comply)

4. Checking of Attendance
“Nicole, who is absent
today?” “No one is absent, Ma’am,”

“Thank you, Nicole and

good job, everyone for
being present today!”

B. Review
"Before we dive into our new
lesson, let's recall what we
discussed last meeting. What
was our last topic?" "Our topic yesterday was about
interpreting and solving problems on
measures of position, ma’am”
"That’s right! So, we calculate,
we interpret and solve
problems of measures of
position in ungrouped or
grouped data.”

"So, in calculating measures of

position we use different
formula for ungrouped and
grouped data depending on
what we tend to compute so
after computing do we
compute the exact data or it’s "It divides the data into ten equal
position?" parts, ma’am."

"Correct! In relation to that, Since deciles divide the data into ten

"Great! If a student's score on "The student performed better than

a test is 48 in the eighth decile 80% of her peers, whose scores are
(D8), what does it mean?" less than or equal to 48."

“Good one!”
C. Motivation
"Before we proceed with our
lesson, let's do a quick game
to energize everyone!”

"I will divide you into three

groups for this game called
‘Pass the Message:
Mathematics Version.’ Instead
of passing a message, you will
pick a math question from this
box. You can either answer it
yourself or pass it to a
groupmate. The last person to
receive the question must go
to the front and present the “Yes, ma’am”
answer. If your group answers
correctly within two minutes,
you win! Are you ready?"

“Okay then let’s start!”

(Questions in the box)

• If Mark got a score of 35,
which is equivalent to the 70th
percentile in a quiz bee
competition, what does it
mean?
• In an ungrouped data
the scores are
5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,
and 50 what is D3?
• A student calculated D5
and got the same value as P50.
What does this mean?
• If a student’s exam
score falls in the 25th (The students will proceed passing or
percentile, what does it mean? answering the question up to the last

took an exam. If you need to
find the 7th decile (D7), what is (After 2 minutes)
the position
Expected Answer:
• 70% of the class scored ≤ 35
points, which is Mark’s score.
• D3 = 15
• D3 is the same as P30
• The student performed better
than 30% of his/her classmates,
while 70% of his/her classmates
performed better than the student.
• 70.7

(The student – last member of the

group will explain)
“Why and How did you come • Mark's score of 35 is at the
up with that answer?” 70th percentile, meaning he scored
higher than 70% of his classmates.

• The 3rd decile (D3) is 15, as it

represents the 30th percentile of the
data set.

• D5 and P50 are equal because

both represent the median, where
half of the scores are above and half
are below.

• A student in the 25th

percentile performed better than
25% of classmates, while 75%
scored higher.

• The 7th decile (D7) in a class

of 100 students is at position 70.7.

"Wonderful! Everyone, give

yourselves a round of
applause for doing such
wonderful work!"
D. Presentation of the lesson
"Since we've already finished
interpreting and solving
problems on measures of
position, it's time to apply
what you've learned to a real-
world scenario by formulating
and conducting a Statistical
Mini-Research."
“"Some of you might already
be familiar with research or
have heard about it before, “Research is the process of
while others may not. So, searching again and conducting a

'research,' what comes to “Research is challenging.” (or
mind?" "Research can be difficult.")
“Research is a way of collecting
evidence.”
(Students answer may vary)

“Good idea! So, when you say “Research defined as step-by-step

research, what is its actual process of collecting and analyzing
definition?” data to deepen our understanding
towards a topic or an issue. A
researcher is someone whose main
concern is to seek for answers to his
questions.”

“Great! But why do we

conduct research? We conduct
research to gain new
knowledge, solve problems,
make informed decisions, and
improve existing ideas or
practices. It helps us
understand the world better
by gathering and analyzing “A research paper is a piece of
data to draw meaningful academic writing that provides
conclusions.” analysis, interpretation, and
argument based on in-depth
“Since we already defined independent research.
what is research, what is now
a research paper?”

“that’s right! A research paper

is similar to academic essay,
but it is usually longer and a
more detailed assignment
designed to assess not only
your academic skills in
scholarly research but also
your research skills because
writing a research paper
requires you to demonstrate a
strong knowledge of your
topic, engage with a variety of
sources, and make an original “Ma’am research is important

"Now that we know why

research is important, let's
talk about the steps in
formulating a statistical mini-

the data, what do you think
we should do?"
"That's right! The third step is "We need to analyze it! In the

what did you do in the game?"

"We explain what the data

means?"

"Great! Analyzing data is the

fourth step. This means
carefully examining the
numbers and patterns to find
useful insights. And finally,
what do you think we do after
analyzing?"

"Exactly! The last step is

help us turn numbers into
meaningful information! In our

questions or clarifications?” "We organize it!"

E. Application
"Now, let’s apply what we "We present it!"
learned! I’ll give each group a
small set of data, and your

we discussed. Sounds good?"
"We interpret the data!"
"Great! First, what do we do
after collecting data?"

"Correct! Then, after

organizing?"
"Exactly! Then what comes
next?"

"And finally?"

"Nice! Let’s try it. Here’s your

dataset:

Teacher Anna wants to identify

the favorite subjects of her 10
students, so she conducted a
survey. The survey shows that
4 students love Math, 2
students love English, 3
students love PE, and 1
student loves Filipino.

"Work with your groupmates "Ma’am, we made a table

"Okay, time’s up! Let’s hear
from Group 1. How did you
organize and present the
data?" "Math, ma’am!"

"Filipino!"

"Most students in this group like

Math, while only one student
chose Filipino as their favorite
subject."

"Great! Now, let’s analyze.

Which subject is the most
preferred?" "None, ma’am!"

"And the least?"

Exactly! Now, can someone

interpret the data for me?" "We learned that research is
important because it helps us find
answers and solve problems,
ma’am!"
"Awesome! That’s how we use
statistics to make sense of
data. See? You just conducted
a mini-research! Any
questions?" "First, collect the data. Second,
organize the data you collected.

F. Generalization:
"Alright, class! Let’s wrap up
our lesson for today. What did
we learn about research?"

"That’s right! Research helps

us gain new knowledge. Now,
what are the steps in "Because it helps us make better

research?"

Exactly! So, to summarize,

research helps us find
answers, and the steps in "None, ma’am!"
statistical research are
collecting, organizing,
presenting, analyzing, and
interpreting data. Now, why
do you think research is useful
in real life?"

"That’s correct! Research is

everywhere, from business to
health, to even choosing the
best product to buy. So,
always remember, research is
a powerful tool for learning
and discovery! Any questions
before we end?"

"Great job today, everyone!

Give yourselves a round of
applause!"

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Read each question carefully. Identify the correct step in research being described or illustrated
in the problem. Choose your answer from the following options:

Collecting Data Organizing Data Presenting Data

Analyzing Data Interpreting Data
Write your answer clearly on the space provided before each number. Spelling counts, so be careful!

__________1) A teacher surveys students to determine their favorite subject in school. What step in
research is this?
__________2) A student creates a bar graph to visually show the number of boys and girls in a class.
What step does this illustrate?
__________3) After studying the results of a survey, a researcher concludes that students prefer face-to-
face learning over online classes. Which step is shown?
__________4) After gathering responses from a survey, a researcher arranges the answers into
categories based on similar characteristics. What step is being done?
__________5) A company examines the trends in customer feedback to determine if their new product is
successful. What research step is this?

V. Assignment
Instructions: Conduct a simple statistical mini research

1) Formulate a simple research question related to your daily life or school environment. (Example:
"What is the most preferred snack among Grade 10 students?")
2) Collect data by surveying at least 10 classmates or family members.
3) Organize the data in a simple table.
4) Present the data using a bar graph, pie chart, or any visual representation.
5) Analyze the data by identifying trends or patterns.
6) Interpret the data by writing 3-5 sentences explaining what the results mean
