Economic Achievements
Tamil Nadu has achieved unprecedented economic growth rates in recent years:
• Recorded a real economic growth rate of 9.69% in 2024-25, the highest in India and Tamil
Nadu's best performance in the last 10 years
• Achieved a nominal growth rate of 14.02% in 2024-25, also the highest among Indian states
• The state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increased from Rs. 15,71,368 crore in 2023-
24 to Rs. 17,23,698 crore in 2024-25 at constant prices (base years 2011-12)
• Maintained strong growth even during challenging times like COVID-19, with 0.07% growth
in 2020-21 and consistently over 8% growth since 2021-22

The state's economic growth has been driven by excellent performance in the following sectors:
Tertiary (Services) Sector:
• Grew by 12.7% in 2024-25, contributing about 53% to the state economy

• Grew by 9% in 2024-25, contributing 37% to the economy

Industrial Leadership

manufacturing GVA in 2023-24

Leadership in Renewable Energy
Tamil Nadu has established itself as a pioneer in renewable energy:
• Increased total renewable energy capacity from 19,983.42 MW in March 2024 to 24,091
MW in November 2024 - an addition of 4,107.58 MW in just eight months
• Ranks third in the country as of March 2024, contributing 11.63% of India's total installed
renewable energy capacity
• Ranks fifth in renewable energy production in 2023-24, producing 33.17 billion units (BU)
and contributing 9.22% of the country's renewable energy production
• Specifically ranks fourth in solar, wind, bio-energy, and small hydropower, producing 29.60
BU (13.11% of the national total)
• Renewable energy contributed 26.90% to Tamil Nadu's total energy production, with wind
power contributing 50.98% and solar energy 35.39%
• Targets adding 7,500 megawatts (MW) of additional renewable energy capacity by 2025-26
• Set a record of 5,838 MW of wind power generation on September 10, 2023
• Achieved a new peak solar production record of 5,398 MW on March 5, 2024, and broke the
record for maximum one-day solar energy production at 40.50 MU on April 23, 2024

Educational Transformation
Tamil Nadu has made significant progress in modernizing its education system:
• Allocated Rs. 1,000 crore for the School Development Plan for infrastructure improvement

Tamil Nadu pioneers in several healthcare initiatives:
• Established robust public health infrastructure with skilled human resources, contributing to
high rankings in key health indicators
• Implemented the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS),
benefiting over 14 million people
• Introduced the Innuyir Kaappom Nammai Kaakkum-48 scheme ensuring cashless medical
treatment for all road accident victims
• Introduced the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam (MTM) scheme to improve health access for
low-income groups and reduce expenditure
• Pioneered the concept of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in India through the

medical officers and nurses, providing morning and evening outpatient services
• Became the first large state to transform all PHCs and U-PHCs into HWCs
• Significantly expanded HSC-HWCs from 985 in 2018-20 to 4,848 in 2021-24, and established
500 U-HWCs which did not exist previously
Tourism and Cultural Development
Tamil Nadu has made substantial investments in tourism and cultural preservation:
• Allocated Rs. 524.16 crore in the 2025-26 budget for Tourism, Culture, and Religious
Endowments departments, with Rs. 272.46 crore specifically for tourism
• Allocated Rs. 300 crore to improve modern infrastructure at key tourist destinations
including Mamallapuram, Tiruvannamalai, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, Tiruchendur, Palani,
and Nagoor-Velankanni
