DEFINITION
Transaction
is the act of transacting within or between groups (as carrying on
commercial activities)-( Business dictionary, 2016)

Transactional leadership
is the style of leadership in which the leader promotes
compliance of his followers through both rewars and
punishments. Also known as “Management theories” (
Odumeru & Ifeanyi, 2013)
HISTORY
First descibed by Max Weber in Further developed by Bernard M.
1947. Bass in 1981.

This style is most often used by the managers.


It focuses on the basic management process of controlling, organizing, and short-term
planning.
TRANSACTIOAL LEADERSHIP
It emphasizes results, stay within the
existing structure of an organization and
measures success according to that
organization`s system of rewards and
penalties.
They hold the formal authority and positions
of responsibility in an organization &
responsible for maintaining routine by
managing individual performance and
facilitating group performance.
Transactional, or managerial, leaders set the
standards for workers and does performance
reviews are the most common way to judge
employee performance.
