1.Introduction to the VVVF door operator

The VVVF-3 elevator door operator is a control equipment based on a specific frequency inverter
designed to incorporate the whole functions to control any kind of elevator door.

The system satisfies the most complex operator requirements and offers safety, reliable performance.

With this kind of control the system gets a soft, noiseless, fast and comfortable movement.

2.The electronic VVVF control

The VVVF control is a 3-phase inverter made with the 3rd generation rugged IGBT transistors, fast
speed, that can generate a range frequency from 0.2 Hz to 200 Hz with a 0.1 Hz precision and a 15 KHz
carrier frequency. The carrier frequency guarantees a silent electronic control. The sinusoidal signal
synthesis is made by 3 PWM in real time.

The control is a Frequency/Voltage closed loop positioning type that regulates Voltage and Frequency
independently with a constant torque response in the working frequency range.
The VVVF main processor is from the last generation 16bit microprocessor (Hitachi H8 532). Its high
speed (20 MHz), low power consumption, powerful peripheral devices leads the system to manage in real
time the whole functions with the maximum accuracy.
The working frequency converts the VVVF control to a quiet system.
The electronic components have been distributed on the board for best isolation between the different
areas, to avoid the possibility of a problem in one of them affecting the others. Input control area is
completely isolated by means photo-couplers, the outputs are separated with relays and a driver, the
mains power supplies are isolated and the input power supply is protected against over-voltages (wrong
400V connections) and indirect discharges (surges) up to 2500 V.
The board is a SMD design for a better reliability and an easy assembly.

3.VVVF operator advantages.

• Elimination of all the mechanical parts like pulleys, microcontacts at the end of travels,
reduction belts and arms, by a linear electronic drive.

• Maximum working flexibility. The same control can work with any kind of lift O

controller in market and with any kind of door operator. It is very easy to
program by means microswitches and there is an automatic auto-adjustment
function to avoid complex parameter programming.

• Automatic Autoadjustment function, to get an easier start up and work for the installer, with
the whole functionality and protections.

• The induction motor is a brushless one so its noiseless performance and reliability is
guaranteed.
• Reduced installation, maintenance and adjustment time.
• Better efficiency than traditional control systems (up to 200% improvement) getting an
important energy saving, less motor heating and a higher working rate (90% rate).
• Accelerations and decelerations are controlled by microprocessor and can be modified.
• Adjustable speeds and safety force regulation:
Opening speed from 0.4 m/second to 1 m/second.
Closing speed from 0.2 m/second to 0.6 m/second.
Safety closing force: 80 N to 150 N.

• Serial communication port with external devices as PC Computers, Bus Interfaces, etc.
• Programming console or PC Interface to customize movement available.
• The control inputs activated by a wide voltage range (from 12V to 230V AC or DC voltage)
or by means free voltage contacts (relay type) to work with any main controller. Multiple
inputs to get a better flexibility, with logic priorities.

• Programmable intelligent re-opening or slave from main controller with compatible

connections to external devices (photocell barriers, push car buttons, radar systems).

• Accurate position by means of an encoder. The movement detection is

electronical not mechanical, so there is no mechanical wear and tear.

• Smart obstruction detection and saved obstruction position 8.

When an obstruction is detected, the system checks if there is still an obstacle in the next
close movement, reducing the speed and with no impact.
If the obstacle disappears, the doors close completely and it works normally.
If the obstruction remains, the doors reopen and try to close again.

With the console we can

achieve three main objectives:

1.-To see the VVVF parameters

values.
2.-To detect possible mistakes in the
system and the signals coming from
the main lift controller.
3.-To modify the internal program
parameters changing the different
opening and closing ramps.

Communication interface VVVF- PC computer.

The serial communication interface translates the VVVF serial communication port (a 4-20 mA
safe industrial current loop communication port) to the standard RS-232C levels for a PC
Computer by means a Windows 95/98 based program, to customize the systems and to verify
the system automatically.

Every electronic VVVF board goes through a 24 hours “Burning” process connected at
250 V with two motors to ensure a long working life of each unit.

After the “Burning” there are two more tests done by a computer. One before
assembling the board to the operator, and the other one after assembling it. These two tests
check the correct working of all the functions, acceleration, deceleration, obstruction etc...

When the operator is ready for delivery, the computer print out a label that is added to
the board and it gives information related to the type of door, programming, software and
hardware codes and so on.

All these tests assure us that all the doors produced by Tecnolama are delivered with all the
quality and adjustment tests that are necessary to minimize installation time.

6. NEW FEATURES
Since the beginning we have innovated to bring new features (in the software and the
hardware control) and technologies.

The future VVVF-4 version.

Our experience and our constant concern on the customer’s requirements lead us to
continuously offer new features, functions and protections. The last should never be
underestimated, because the solutions of daily problems make the difference.

That means a constant evolution and improvement of the managing control system.
This new VVVF control is completely compatible with the previous one and it incorporates a
new microprocessor more powerful, more internal memory and a improved software for a
better movement performance.

We will inform about the complete specifications in a few weeks.

The adaptive control software:

The adaptive control for VVVF door operator tries to maintain the brake distances even
in the worst conditions.
The system measures the space just in the final brake points to compensate in next
cycles and it improves the signal to get always the space approximation programmed by
means the programming console.
The compensation application runs through a recursive algorithm that makes
the average from the measures made, integrating the effort of the cabin door and the
different landing doors.
With this function we can compensate the torque losses when the motor is very hot or
the mechanism becomes old.

New hybrid power module.

With this module there is a perfect contact between the IGBT

power transistors and the aluminium heat sink, and the
system gets a lower internal temperature improving the
systems response against hard working conditions.

7. START UP PROTOCOL
Every electronic VVVF board pass through a 24 hours “Burning” process connected at
250 V with two motors to ensure a long working life of each unit.

After the “Burning” there are two tests more done by a computer. One before
assembling the board to the operator, and the other one after assembling it.

The best START UP PROTOCOL :

1. - The door must be middle opened to see better the initial movement.

2. - Disconnect the signals coming from the main controller (8,9,10,11,12, and 24,25).

3. - Program in 2 INPUTS and MASTER (Microswitches 1 in OFF and 4 in ON) independently

to how you will program the doors afterwards.
Microswitches 2 and 3 according to the kind of door. (Right-Left-Central sense and
semiautomatic or automatic landing door).

4. – Adjust the 3 potentiometers in maximum (52,53,54) to overcome little mechanical

disorders.

5. - Switch on the unit by means the main switch (57).

6. - The door must remain stopped. If the door moves check the microswitch 1 in OFF
position.

7
Control VVVF
7. - Press the AUTOADJUSTMENT button (51) to make an autoadjustment cycle.
The door should close, in case it opens you should check the microswitch 3 and if it is
correct then any motor phases is inverted and it will have to interchange 2 of them and
make the autoadjustment again.
- If the door doesn’t move, check the motor wires and the motor connector (56).

- If the door stops before close completely, the information from the encoder is not
correct.

- Check the encoder (55) and try the autoadjustment again.

- If the door stops in the locking skate movement check manually the lock and de-lock
skate movement is made easily and completely.
(See the Mounting cabin doors instructions).

- If The door doesn’t close completely disconnect the whole system and check if there is
any mechanical obstruction.
When the door is fully closed it will activate the CLOSE led and after a few seconds
will open slowly and the led will be deactivated.
The door should open slowly until the mechanical rubber stopper.

- If only opens 26 cm, the encoder information doesn’t arrive to the VVVF. Check the
connections or change the encoder or the wire if they are damaged.

- If doesn’t open completely, check the mechanical because the motor torque is enough
to drag any kind of door (Check the wheels, the leaves, etc.)
The door will close again.
If the door doesn’t close, one encoder phase fails. Verify the wire and the encoder.
If the door stops for some seconds before the close movement thereis too much
mechanical friction detected by the system. The system will work, but the door operator
should be checked mechanically.

The door should close without hitting.

If it hits check the micros witch no.2 (type of landing door).

We should be sure the 3 movements (CLOSE-OPEN-CLOSE) are well completed when

making the autoadjustment function.
At this point pressing TEST button the door will make a closing or opening semicycle.
It should open and close without hitting with the standard movements preprogrammed. So
now it is the time to adjust the speeds (52 and 53).
Check the whole functions: obstruction, photocell, the inputs, open/close movements, etc.
If the VVVF control works correctly, we can switch off the circuit and program according
to your requirements and connect the input signals from the manoeuvre lift control.

Some considerations should be taken when the special car lock system is installed.
The last software version will detect this device automatically and special working conditions
will be adopted.

Be sure to switch off the VVVF control when connecting the input signals to do not
make a shortcircuit between the 0-12V internal voltage and the lift control signals with
external voltage.

8. PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS.

• The door doesn’t answer to the test or auto-adjustment buttons.

- Switch OFF (57) and try again.

• The door only closes 35 cm.

- This is the clear entrance of any controller that has never been adjusted. Therefore an auto-
adjustment is required.

• The door opens but doesn’t close

- Check if the photocell LED is activated.
- Check if the close signal arrives to the system using a multimeter or the console.
- Check if the re-opening LED is activated.
- Check that there is no residual voltage in the open signal.

• The door re-opens by itself.

- Check the sensibility of the re-opening (54) Safety regulation.
- Check that the photocell is not activated.
- Check that there is no mechanical obstruction on the door.
- In case of having the same problem, disconnect the photocell and try again with the TEST
button, and if the door doesn’t open or close totally there must be a mechanical obstruction on
the door.

- Check the “grounding” door connection. 17

Emiter
- Check the correct plugs connection.
- Remove the photocell wiring from any place where there are “electric noises” such as motors,
supplies wiring, etc. If you can use a console, please check the stability of the signal.
- Do not extend the wires especially the reception one (green colour).
- Take in mind that in master mode the system recognizes automatically the photocell detector
after making a complete open-close cycle with the beam free controlled by the input signals.

• The door doesn’t reach the fully open position.

- The mechanical adjustment of the door is not correct, as the motor of the
door operator has always enough power to open in normal circumstances.

• The door reopens when the skate is closing.

- Check the regulation of the skate, because probably the locking system of
the skate is not well adjusted and the door has a mechanical resistance, and
consequently the door reopens and the obstruction LED lights.

• The door hits when opens.

- Check that the skate un-locking is well fixed before the door starts to open.
In case the skate is not fully fixed you should check the skate adjustment
because it is probably too hard.
• The “ON” LED is activated and the door doesn’t obey.
- There has been an obstruction at opening and then the door enters into an “out of order
stage” during 15 seconds.
- There is a continuous obstruction and the lift controller has not changed the close signal by
the open signal in slave mode.
- There has been a short circuit in the output of the motor, and the system will be deactivated
during 3 seconds.

9
Control VVVF
•The door hits when opens, the “open”LED is not activated and the
system gets out of order.
- Check the tension of the toothed belt, because probably is not correctly adjusted and it slips
on the pulley of the motor and consequently the encoder is sending a wrong information to the
controller.

• The system gets power but doesn’t work and LED ON is off. Ext. Fuse

- Check if the external fuse is burned and change it for another of the same type
(250V , 4A ceramic fast speed).
• The LEDS are working but the door doesn’t move. Int. Fuse

- Check if the internal fuse is burned and in case it is, please send the controller
back to Tecnolama to be repaired, but do not try to change it by yourself as it
could give an electric shock and break the output transistors.

• The motor is moving intermittently.

- Check the wiring connections or if a phase of the motor is failing.

How to check the correct direction 56. MOTOR

of rotation of the motor.

55. ENCODER

• Disconnect the input signals from the controller, the encoder wires and program the switch 1
in ON position. (Only mains supply and motor connected). Switch on the circuit.
If the door starts to open, then the turning sense is correct, but if the door starts to
close, interchange two motor phases.
• Connect the encoder wire and the system inputs.
How to check the
encoder.

Press the auto-adjustment press button.

• If the door closes, opens and stops after 26 cm, the encoder is not connected or it is
damaged.
• If the door closes, opens but doesn’t close again, one phase of the encoder is not correct.
Interchange the 2 middle wires only, but never the two wires in the extreme because this
would damage the encoder.
This could happen updating an old VVVF controller type (like the VVVF1).

Pressing the TEST button the door should apply the correct acceleration and deceleration
curves and it means that the motor and the encoder are correct.

9. REASONS FOR DAMAGE

- Connecting any external tension in the terminal 24 and 25. (In this terminals it is only
possible to connect the 12V internally generated by the controller and supplied by the
terminal 23)

- Connecting 220V or any voltage between the 12V (9) or 0V (11) terminals.

- Connecting any tension in the re-opening terminal 21 and 22.

- Drops of water inside the controller. If this happens, disconnect the system and dry it
completely.

- To change the fuse number 3 can also damage the output transistors. If this fuse is
burned, proceed to change the whole controller.

- Connecting any signal with power in the SERIAL PORT or ENCODER connectors.

Be careful to switch off the VVVF control when connecting the input
signals to do not make a shortcircuit between the 0-12V internal
voltage and the lift control signals with external voltage.

For example, you have to increase the space at closing CLOSE LENGTH if the doors hit a bit at
closing, or increase the 0 VOLTAGE and decrease the V/F OPEN Ratio if a very heavy door has
problems to open completely at the final opening movement.

Take always in mind that you have to protect the modified parameters because if
not the auto-adjustment function will fix the standard ones for the type of door.

12. EMERGENCY SUPPLIER

This circuit supplies the VVVF circuit when power fails working as a emergency rescue device.
The circuit is placed on top of the controller plate, inserted in a 2 x 12 connector and hold
down with 2 incorporated separators.

This supplier has been made to use with the FERMATOR battery, or another one with
these specifications: - Voltage = 12 V DC.
- Output Current > 8 A during 10 s. ( min. 11.5 Volts).

With a FERMATOR battery, it is necessary to make from terminals 9(+12V) and 11( 0V)
of the control signals inlet to the charge connection (+46 and – 45).
With an ordinary battery with its own charge system this connection won’t be
necessary.

Connection Diagram:

The equipment is activated by the FLOOR signal control (a free voltage contact). This
signal activates the system at least 15 seconds, and after it goes to a standby situation with a
consumption of 20mA. As you can see it is not necessary to eliminate this signal after the
operation.

Internal connection to charge the battery.

i NOTE: The VVVF assembled with the emergency supplier is delivered with an internal
battery charging wiring. So there is no need of the external wiring (45-46) used in previous
VVVF versions.

i NOTE: The same unit with a little modification is available for 2 motors operators.
The VVVF-4 unit must have the TEC4005 software version or newer.

3. ELECTRONIC
PRESSURE SENSOR
ELECTRONIC PRESSURE SENSOR (EASYLIFE INSTALLATIONS)

The electronic pressure sensor PP7022 permits the detection and monitoring of the pressure in a hydraulic system,
giving a switching signal according to the different type of functioning modus once the overload level has been
reached. The reduced dimensions as well as the use of only 4 controller interface wires, make this device particular-
ly suitable for lift applications.

The sensor body has a cylindric shape and is built in stainless steel. At one end there is the connector (male 4 ways)
for the controller connection. On the other end there is a thread (M12x1) which allows the fixing of the device to
the valve block of the pump unit.

Typical pressure values range of the sensor is from 0 to 100bar/10MPa/1450PSI. The maximum pressure tolerable
is 300bar/30MPa/4351PSI; the bursting pressure is over the 650bar/65MPa/9425PSI.
Operating voltage must be within a min. of 9,6V d.c. to a max. of 30V d.c.
The device has a short-circuit and reverse polarity protection (on power supply), overload protection for the outputs
(250mA max).

ATTENTION
Make sure that no pressure is applied to the system before mounting or removing the sensor. Screw the sensor into
a G1/4 process connection. Tightening torque recommended 25Nm (max 50Nm).
In order to avoid air bubbles on the sensor transductor, insert some oil into it (hole positioned at the end of the
threacked connection which is connected to the valve block).

Legend

Sensor pin-out
pin 1 BN, brown power supply (positive)
pin 2 WH, green teach input IN (default) or switching output OU2 *
pin 3 BU, yellow power supply (negative)
pin 4 BK, white switching output OU1 (default) or communication interface *
T = programming signal

* The functions of the connector pins 2 and 4 are selectable in according to the application (see paragraph “Menu
command”- sez. OU1 and OU2, page 22 of operating instructions manual); any action is necessary in our instal-
lations, because default values are in use.
Functions

The electronic pressure sensor PP7022 works in three different modality:

1. indipendent sensor with 1 switching output (OU1) and 1 teach input (IN)
2. indipendent sensor with 2 switching outputs (OU1 and OU2)
3. sensor for communication with a programming/display unit for EPS (electrical and pressure parameters config.)
Modality “1” is used in our installations.

Programming

Be sure that the sensor is correctly applied to the valve block of the pump unit and connect the power supply cables
(positive “2” and negative “1” signals) to his pin1 and pin 3, as showed in the control panel drawing. The switching
output OU1 (pin 4) will be only connected when the programming process will be finished.
Switch on the power supply and verify that the green led of the sensor is turned on.
Applying on the teach input (pin2, IN) a positive or negative signal (see “T” button on electrical drawing above),
it is possible to configure following parameter:
- overload threshold
!!! When the programming process is finished the teach input IN (pin2) must be disconnected

ATTENTION
The pressure sensor uses factory default values as follows:
overload threshold = not defined
switching output OU1 = normally open
switching output OU1 logic = NPN

Overload threshold programming

- put inside the car one or more objects with equivalent weight as the nominal capacity of the installation + 10%
- apply on the sensor teach input (pin2, IN) a ground signal (“1” of electrical drawing), for 2s to 5s
- during this time the yellow led sensor (placed near the green led) blinks with 2Hz frequency
- befor the 5th second is expired, remove the teach input
- if the setting was not successful, the yellow led blinks with 8Hz frequency (the previous setting remains effective)

Switching output OU1 programming

The switching output OU1 is programmed “normally open” (default), as in use in our applications; if it’s necessary
to modify the output logic, try as follow:
- apply on the sensor teach input (pin2, IN) a positive signal +24v (“2” of electrical drawing), for 5s to 10s
- during the first 5s, the yellow led sensor (placed near the green led) blinks with 2Hz frequency afterwards,
between 5s and 10s, the frequency goes down to 1Hz showing the new time available to store the new condition
- before the 10th second is expired, remove the teach input
- the switching output OU1 will be programmed “normally closed”; if you want to change again the output logic,
repeat the above sequence
- if the setting was not successful, the yellow led blinks with 8Hz frequency (the previous setting remains effective)

color diagnostic led (green&yellow) is placed
