BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF WEATHER

Prepared by: LORINCE D. DELA CRUZ

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Learning Competency:

The learners should be able to identify some of the basic characteristics/elements used to
describe the weather, such air temperature, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction,
humidity, rain, and cloud cover

B. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

1. identify the basic characteristics used to describe the weather (e.g., temperature,
wind speed, and humidity);
2. appreciate the importance of weather through of planning daily activities; and
3. demonstrate simple weather conditions through role playing.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Basic Characteristics of Weather

B. Science Ideas: Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a particular time and place. It's
what's happening outside right now, including things like temperature, humidity,
precipitation (rain, snow, etc.), wind, cloud cover, and atmospheric pressure. Weather
changes constantly, sometimes dramatically, and is different from climate, which
describes long-term weather patterns over many years.
C. Science Processes:
D. Value Focus: Weather

C. EXPLORE

Okay class, let's look at some pictures.

What do you see in this picture?

Excellent! And how does a sunny day

usually make you feel? It's sunny! The sky is blue and there are a few clouds.
That's great! Now let's look at this one. Happy! I like sunny days because I can play outside.

What's happening here?

Right. And how does a rainy day make

you feel? It's raining! The sky is gray and dark.

What about this one?

Yes, and what comes to your mind

when you see a windy day?
It's windy! The trees are moving a lot.

I think about kites! It's fun to fly kites on a windy day.

And this one?

What do you do on a cloudy day?

It's cloudy. It looks like it might rain.

I play inside the house.

And finally, this one. What is this

weather called?

Yes, it is a storm. Storms can be

dangerous. That's a storm! There's lightning and thunder. It looks
scary.
What should we do during a storm?
Stay inside and be safe!
Exactly! Now we've seen different types
of weather – sunny, rainy, windy,
cloudy, and stormy. Each type of
weather brings different feelings and
requires different actions from us. what
do you think will be our lesson for About weather Sir!
today?

Very good!

We'll learn more about these different

weather conditions and how to describe
them more specifically in our lesson.

D. EXPLAIN

What is Weather? Weather is a fascinating and dynamic aspect of our

environment that greatly influences our daily lives.

In the Philippines, a tropical archipelago Example: Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda)

various activities such as agriculture,
tourism, and disaster preparedness.

● In the Philippines, typhoons are a

common occurrence, especially during
the rainy season from June to
November. These intense tropical
cyclones bring heavy rainfall, strong
winds, and storm surges, often causing
significant damage to infrastructure,
agriculture, and livelihoods.

● The Philippines experiences two main

monsoon seasons: the southwest
monsoon (Habagat) and the northeast
monsoon (Amihan).

Example: During the Habagat season,
which usually occurs from May to

western parts of Luzon often
experience flooding due to the
combination of heavy rains and urban
drainage issues.

● The Philippines is influenced by the El Niño-Southern

periods of El Niño (warmer sea surface temperatures)

Understanding weather in the

E. ELABORATE

Class how does weather helps us in our Weather plays a crucial role in our daily lives, guiding
daily life for instance, choosing our clothing choices, outdoor activity planning, and
appropriate clothing, planning outdoor preparation for
activities, preparing for extreme extreme events. For instance, we choose clothes

comfortable and safe. We also plan outdoor activities
based on the weather, opting for indoor activities
during storms or extreme temperatures.
Very good! Also knowing the weathers
helps us prepare for extreme weather
events like typhoons by securing
belongings, gathering supplies, and
knowing evacuation routes.

F. EVALUATE

Role-play:

Students will be divided into three

groups, and each will assign a
representative to draw from a box that
will be their topic. They will need to act
out what they usually do during this
kind of weather.

G. EXTEND

Instruction: Conduct a weather

observation activity for a week. Each
day, record the weather and its impacts
on daily activities. Discuss findings at
the end of the week.
