Removal of components within the TwinStar™ SG-1 J43 cabinet

all the specs of the TwinStar™ SG-1 J43 Cabinet, goes over opening and closing all
doors, mounting and securing the cabinet, it shows you how to remove and install the
CPU, along with instructions on how to setting the machine on a base. It also covers
Attendant pays and Cancelling of credits and lastly show you the connections and
locations of the Backplane board and Lighting Control Unit (LCU) board.

Disconnecting EGM from Power
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the belly door.
2. Confirm that the game is switched OFF.
3. Unplug the line cord from the AC module, Figure 1.

CPU-4.2.2X / Backplane 4.0 Assembly Chassis
The procedure below describes how to remove CPU-4.2.2X from the backplane 4.0 assembly
chassis on the CPU for the TwinStar™ SG-1 J43:
1. Unlock and open CPU-4.2.2X.
2. Lift the door upward, and pull on the bottom lever, Figure 2 (A).
3. Gently remove CPU-4.2.2X from the backplane 4.0 assembly chassis, and place on a
flat, non-abrasive surface.

Removal of Main Monitor
Note: This required two technicians to remove the main monitor to meet the safety
requirement.
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the main door, Figure 3.

2. Power off the EGM at the power switch.
3. Grasp each side of the Main Door, then pull out and up, Figure 4.

4. With the main door open, open the pillow crossmember by grasping the top of the
trim and tilting it to towards yourself, Figure 5, Figure 6.

5. Disconnect Monitor Cables (DP Cable, Power Cable, Monitor Bezel Lighting Cable,
Touchscreen) from behind the monitor, Figure 7.

6. Use the 10mm and wrench to loosen the four 10mm Mounting Screws located on
each side of the mounting bracket on the back of the monitor, Figure 8, Figure 9.

7. Ensure to loosen the screws enough so that when the monitor is lifted up, it does not
catch on the mounting bracket.
8. With the assistance of another technician, lift monitor up enough to where the
mounting screws are in the middle of the screw guide, then pull towards you slightly,
Figure 10.

9. Allow monitor to come forward, but leave hinges in bracket, until you are at a point
that is level for both technicians to lift monitor.
10. Place monitor in a safe secure area until you are ready to re-mount or replace it,
Figure 11.

Install Main Monitor
Note: This procedure requires two technicians to meet the safety requirements for installing
the main monitor.
1. With the assistance of another technician, orient monitor to where the bottom and middle
hinges face the cabinet, Figure 12.

2. Secure bottom and middle hinges to mounting brackets on machine. Ensure that you align
them and they are seated fully before raising monitor to secure to mounting bracket,
Figure 13.

3. Raise monitor and ensure you have the mounting screws aligned with the mounting
bracket.
4. Tighten the (4) 10mm nuts to secure the monitor to the mounting bracket, Figure 14.

5. Connect Monitor Cables (DP Cable, Power Cable, Monitor Bezel Lighting Cable,
Touchscreen) from behind the monitor, Figure 12.

Removal of Topper (Marquee) LCD
Note: The LCD is not hinged and will fall unless two technicians perform the removal
procedure. In addition, the screws holding on the LCD, Center cover, and Outside cover are
all different sizes.
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the main door.
2. Power off the EGM at the power switch.
3. If applicable, unbolt the EGM from the slot stand (if the game is in the middle of the
bank).
4. Position the ladder behind the EGM.
5. Use a #2 Phillips remove the four screws holding on the center cover, Figure 13.

6. Set the cover and the screws in a safe
location.
7. Disconnect the two cables from the super candle, Figure 14 (A).

8. Use a 7mm to remove the grounding braid nut, Figure 15.

9. Use a #2 Phillips to remove the ten screws holding on the outside cover, Figure 16.

10 Set the cover and screws in a safe location.
11 Disconnect the three cables: DP cable, Power, and LED control cable from the back of
the monitor, Figure 17.

12 With the help of another tech holding the
front of the LCD, use a #2 Phillips to remove the fours screws holding on the LCD,

Removal of iDeck™
Note: You won’t be able to remove the iDeck™ unless the stacker access door is open and
lower portion of the main door is removed.
1. Open the Main door.
2. Power off the EGM.
3. Open the lower portion of the main door, by grasping the top of the trim and tilting it
towards yourself, Figure 19.

4. Place a piece of foam on the iDeck™, Figure 20.

5. Disconnect the two cables on the right side of the cabinet that are plugged into the
BV/Printer Insert Light Bezel, Figure 21.

6. Using Diagonal cutters, cut the four ty-wraps, Figure 22 (A).
7. Remove the ferrite, Figure 22 (B).

8. Disconnect the two cables on the left of the cabinet for the speaker, Figure 23.

9. Disconnect the USB charger cable from the power pack unit (if applicable), Figure

10. Remove the two grounding braids on either side of the cabinet with a 7mm, Figure

11. Remove the four screws two on each sides holding the lower portion door, Figure 26.

12. Remove the Lower Door and set aside in a safe location.
13. Open the Belly Door.
14. Open the Cashbox door.
15. Remove the cover on bottom of iDeck™, by using a #2 Phillips to remove the six
screws, Figure 27.

16. Disconnect the five cables on the bottom of the iDeck™, Figure 28 (A).

NOTE: The LED control board doesn’t need to be disconnected, but if replacing iDeck™, you
will need to ensure that you remove the board before turning in for RMA. This will not come
with order when replacing.
17. Use a 7mm Nut Driver to remove 13 nuts, Figure 29.

NOTE: When taking out the iDeck™, the Button Assembly should be kept with the EGM.
When the iDeck is ordered, it will not come with the Button Assembly.
18. Push up from the bottom of iDeck to remove it, Figure 30.

19. To replace, perform steps 1-18 in reverse order.
20. Route all cables correctly to prevent them from being damaged or pinched.

Removal of the Printer
1. Open the Main door.
2. Power off the EGM.
3. Lower the lower door by grasping the side and pulling down.
4. Lift up on the lever on the left side of the printer, Figure 31.

5. Remove and save the two screws with a #2 Phillips, Figure 32 (A).

6. Loosen the two thumbs screws, Figure 32 (B).

7. Disconnect the cable from underneath, Figure 33.

8. Remove the printer from the EGM and set in a safe location.

Removal of the Backplane
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the main door.
2. Power off the EGM.
3. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the belly door.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the power supply, Figure 34 (A).
5. Loosen the thumb screw and remove the power supply, Figure 34 (B).

7. Use a #2 Phillips to remove the screw and the Test (Diagnostic) Switch bracket
from the assembly on the right side, Figure 36.

8. If applicable, disconnect and remove the Test (Diagnostic) Switch.
9. Disconnect the Cabinet ID; this will stay with new backplane in the EGM, Figure
37.

10. Disconnect all of the rest of the cables from the backplane
Note: Take a picture of how and where all of the cables are plugged into the backplane, they
must be connected in the same location when installing the new backplane.

11. Use a #2 Phillips to loosen the six screws (two and the left and right sides, one on
the top and one the bottom), Figure 38.

12. Lift the backplane assembly up and out through the main door.

Removal of the Sub-Woofer
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the main door.
2. Power off the EGM at the power switch.
3. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the belly door.
4. Use a # 2 Phillips to remove the two screws below the sub-woofer, Figure 39
(A).
5. Disconnect the power cable, Figure 39(B).
6. Remove the sub-woofer from the EGM and set in a safe location.

Removal of the Bill Validator Housing
1. Refer to the Installation Participant Guide for opening the main door.
2. Power off the EGM at the power switch.
3. Lower the lower door by grasping the side and pulling down.
4. Lift up on the lever on the left side of the printer.
5. Lift up on the lever on the left side of the Bill Validator, Figure 40.

6. Behind the Bill Validator disconnect the cable Figure 41 (A) and cut the
ty-wrap, Figure 41 (B).

7. Unlock the Cash Box Door and pull the door downward, Figure 42.

See below for information on the location of where the Main LCD Display, the iDeck LCD display,
and the Top LCD Display are plugged in on the backplane board, Figure 47.

Cabinet ID
See below for information on the location of where the cabinet ID board is plugged in on the
backplane board, Figure 48, located to the right of the display ports.
Note: If the board is not plugged in, or does not say TwinStar™ SG-1 J43, the game will not
function.

EMU/LCU Board Port Configuration
The diagram below is the standard proper port location for the cabinet lighting cable to ensure the
cabinet side lightings will be in sync.
Note: This diagram of the EMC/LCU board is specific for TwinStar™ SG-1 J43 compared to
other TwinStar Series.
