Introduction to Packet Tracer

Basic Star Network

Description

Packet Tracer is cisco system visualization software that you can used to create various network that represent
the real world networking model.

Objectives

After completing this lab,students should :

1. Know different network devices using packet tracer


2. Know how to setup a basic topology network (star network)

Activities

Step 1

Go https://www.netacad.com/courses/packet-tracer/introduction-packet-tracer

Step 2

Sign up and enroll into the packet tracer course

Step 3

After logging in click on Student Support and Resources

Step 4

Download packet tracer

Step 5

Open packet tracer

Step 6

Go to the bottom left, click Network Devices as seen below :

Click Switches seen below

Now select the 2960 switch above . Now click and drag and drop it to the workspace seen below

Click on End devices at bottom left as seen below :

Now Drag and Drop 6 PCs to the workspace as seen below:

Now click on connection below

Select Copper Straight-Through seen above to connect all six (6) PCs FastEthernet0 to 2960-24TT Switch
on Figure 10 below.

As seen above connect each PCs respectively:

PC0 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet01


PC1 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet02
PC2 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet03
PC3 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet04
PC4 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet05
PC5 FastEthernet0 to Switch FastEthernet06

After connection your workapace should look like as seen below . Note if you want to see all the interface ports
all network devices you can click Options in the menu ,click Preferences then check “ Always Show Port
Labels in Logical Workspace”.

Addressing to each PCs

Click PC0 in workspace ,click Desktop, then click IP Configuration as seen below

Now type IP address for PC0 as seen below in the IP Configuration above . Click X to close .

IPv4 address : 192.168.10.1


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Repeat IP addresses IP Configuration for all PCs as done before for PC0

PC1 - IPv4 address: 192.168.10.2


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

PC2 - IPv4 address: 192.168.10.3


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

PC3 - IPv4 address : 192.168.10.4


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

PC4 - IPv4 address : 192.168.10.5


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

PC5 - IPv4 address : 192.168.10.6


Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Testing PCs Connection

Click Add Simple PDU (P) as below

Now you see a envelope , place one envelope on PC0 and the other on PC1. Once if it is successful or not you
will get a response at bottom right Toggle PDU List windows . Click New or Delete successful or
unsuccessful on response as needed if is full . Repeat the process any two PCs at needed to test connection.
