Week 7–8 Class Notes

1. Using Conditional Sentences (First Conditional

Definition & Purpose

The first conditional is used to talk about real or possible situations in the future that
depend on a certain condition being true.

Structure:If + present simple, will + base verb

(Conditional Clause) + (Main Clause)

Examples:

If it rains tomorrow , we will stay indoors.

If you don’t eat breakfast , you will feel tired.

If she finishes her homework , she will watch a movie.

Variations:

Main Clause First : We will go out if the weather is good .

Using “won’t” : If you don’t leave now, you won’t catch the bus.

Common Verbs Used: go, be, have, study, eat, do, come, rain, miss, finish

Classroom Activities:

Pair Practice: Students write 5 “if” sentences and ask partners to complete them.
Role-Play: “If you win a free trip, where will you go?”

Condition Matching Game: Match “If…” clauses with appropriate “will…” responses.

2. Talking About Likes, Dislikes, and Opinions

Talking About Likes & Dislikes

Verbs and Expressions:

Like / Love / Enjoy / Prefer

(e.g., I like reading. She enjoys dancing.)

Don’t like / Hate / Dislike / Can’t stand

(e.g., I can’t stand loud music.)

Examples:

I love Italian food.

He doesn’t like playing video games.

They enjoy going to the beach in summer.

She hates waking up early.

Talking About Opinions

Useful Phrases:

I believe (that)…

From my point of view…

Personally, I feel (that) Examples:

I think horror movies are too scary.

In my opinion, exercise is essential for health.

I believe that reading improves vocabulary.

Group Discussion: “What do you think about online learning?”

Survey and Report: Ask 5 classmates about their favorite food or music and present
the results.

Debate Practice: “Cats are better pets than dogs. Agree or disagree?”

3. Prepositions of Place, Time, and Movement

A. Prepositions of Place

4. Listening Comprehension

Goals:

Improve ability to understand spoken English in real contexts.

Recognize keywords, tone, and speaker intention.

Learn vocabulary and pronunciation through context.

Strategies:

Listen for Main Ideas: What is the topic or main point?

Listen for Details: Who, what, where, when, why?

Use Context Clues: What do the words around the unknown word mean?

Types of Listening Activities:

1. Dialogue Listening:
Listen to short conversations (e.g., in a store, at a restaurant).

Identify who is speaking, where they are, and what they are doing.

2. Instructions and Announcements:

Listen for time, place, and action verbs.
