1. Muhammadbin Tughlaq abandoned the Khorasan expedition :

i. Muhammad bin Tughlaq sent expeditions into Khorasan and Qarachal because
he wanted to conquer the entire world.
ii. He failed to establish a foothold in these areas. Khorasan's conquest was a
difficult endeavour that was beyond the capabilities of his army.
iii. Muhammad gave up on this plan as a result. Even the Qarachal expedition
was unsuccessful.

2. A critical analysis of tawarikh is important to study the history of the Delhi


Sultanate because-

i. Tarikh, a history in Persian, is a valuable source of study about the Delhi


Sultanate. Persian was the language of administration during the Delhi
Sultanate.
ii. These histories or tawarikh (plural of tarikh) were written by learned men who
not only recorded events but also advised and influenced the Sultan on
governance.
iii. These histories or tawarikh (plural of tarikh ) were written by learned men
who, apart from recording events, also advised the Sultan on governance.
iv. These records were often written for Sultans in the hope of rich rewards. The
authors lived in cities (mainly Delhi) and, therefore, paid lesser attention to
the general public living in villages.
v. In fact, they were often written for Sultans in the hope of rich rewards. By
virtue of their residence in Delhi or other cities, the authors paid less attention
to the masses in villages. Thus, we should exercise caution while referring to
these sources.

follows:
i. Alauddin Khalji brought under the control of the State the assessment and
collection of land revenue.
ii. He gave the order to measure the Doab's arable land so that the land
revenue could be calculated.
iii. He established the practice of direct land income collection by the State.
iv. He mandated that everyone, including the local landowners (known as khuts
and muqadams), pay land tax (also known as kharaj) equal to fifty percent of
the produce.
v. He imposed levies on both cattle and homes.

iii. This measure also failed since the government was powerless to stop the
forgery of the new coins.
