Q 1) Determine the transfer functon H(s) and the amplitude response H(jw) for a third-order
lowpass Butterworth filter if the 3 dB cut off frequency ωc = 100. Find your answer without
using Tables. Verify your answer using either of these tables.

Q 2) Determine n, the order foa lowpass Butterworth filter, and the corresponding cut-off
frequency ωc required to satisfy the following lowpass filter specifications. Find both the
values of ωc, the one that oversatisfies the passband specificatopns, and the one that
oversatisfies the stopband specifications.

a) 𝐺 p ≥ - 0.5 dB, 𝐺 s ≤ -20 dB, ωp =100 rad/sec and ωs = 200 rad/sec

b) Gp ≥ 0.9885, Gs ≤ 10-3, ωp =1000 rad/sec and ωs = 2000 rad/sec

c) The gain at 3 ωc is required to be no greater than -50 dB
