General Instructions:
Read the following instructions very carefully and strictly follow them:
(i) This question paper comprises 19 questions. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) This question paper is divided into five sections – A, B, C, D and E.
(iii) Section A – Questions No.1 to 10 are Multiple Choice Questions. Each question carries 1 mark.
(iv) Section B – Questions No. 11 to 13 are Very Short Answer type questions. Each question
carries 2 marks. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
(v) Section C – Question No. 14 to 15 Short Answer type questions. Each question carries 3 marks.
Answer to these questions should in the range of 50 to 80 words.
(vi) Section D – Question No. 16 to 17 Long Answer type questions. Each question carries 5 marks.
Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
(vii) Section E – Question No. 18 to 19 source-based/case-based units of assessment carrying 4
marks each with sub-parts.
(viii) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in some sections.

bicycle in both the cases.
ii) Describe acceleration with examples.

B) i) A train starting from rest attains a velocity of 72 km h–1 in 5 minutes.
Assuming that the acceleration is uniform, find the acceleration and the distance
travelled by the train for attaining this velocity.
ii) The odometer of a car reads 2000km at the start of a trip and 2400km at the
end of the trip. If the trip took 8h, calculate the average speed of the car in kmph
and ms-1

18. Read the following passage and answer the questions:


Rahul observed that when he poured some acetone on his palm, it disappeared
quickly and his palm felt cold. His teacher explained that this happens due to
evaporation, which requires latent heat from the surroundings
i) Why did Rahul’s palm feel cold? (1m)
ii) Name the phenomenon responsible for the disappearance of acetone. (1m)
iii) A) What is the role of latent heat in this process? (2m)

of latent heat.
19. The distance travelled by a moving body is the actual length of the path covered by
it, irrespective of the direction in which the body travels. It is a scalar quantity. Its
SI unit is meter. Speed of an object is the distance covered per unit time, speed is
a scalar quantity. The SI unit of speed is meter per second (m/s). The distance
travelled by an object is either positive or zero, so the speed may be positive or zero
but never negative.
Distance travelled by a train and time taken by it is shown in the following table:
