SUBJECT:
Selection of PIC on more than two Flight Crew Operations
Dear colleagues,
With this notice, flight operations highlight that, essentially, The company delegates the
responsibility of ensuring the safety and efficiency of the flight to the Pilot in Command.
PIC is fully responsible for all company assets and the safety of the passenger onboard our Aircraft.
The means of formal acceptance of delegation is to sign all company documents that relate to the
PIC authority and responsibility, ie. Dispatch release, Flight Plan, AFML, load sheet and Ramp
activity checklist. Captain that signed the document will be considered accountable for any issue
to their flight.
Designation of the PIC by the Company stipulated as per our OM A, which will reflect in the Sabre
system (The first name is the assigned PIC by the company).
A few things to highlight:
1. The most critical phase of the flight is as per OM A 8.3.1.4; therefore, it is Flight Operations
policy that PIC must always have access to manipulating flight control during this phase,
regardless of functioning as PF or PM.
2. Please review the current policy about selecting the PIC seating position in the OMA for
various flight deck crew arrangements. (OMA 4.2.4.2. SPECIAL CREWING). The grey boxes
indicate the assigned PIC.
3. When a flight operates with more than two Pilots. The First Sector of CROPA, the Sabre
system will show the located first name is the assigned PIC. And if the crew, with a mutual
agreement, elects to deviate from the initial assigned arrangement, the original PIC shall
notify the Chief Pilot about the reason; this could be done by written notification on
WhatsApp/email and remarks on the Flight Plan. And then, the new PIC will act as per PIC
responsibilities.
4. Inflight crew relief (enlarged Captain or SFO) is a concept of the PIC delegating inflight
decision-related to safety and operational issues. The Final decision is then subject to the
PIC of the Flight as per dispatch.

5. In rare cases, if safety and/or operational reason dictates. The crew could elect to change
the PIC inflight (unscheduled change). However, the notifications to flight operations,
including the reason, is mandatory to ensure compliance with the Flight Operations policy;
this can be done using inflight communication tools if any, such as ACARS or SATCOM.
Remember that in the absence of formal notification of the change of the PIC to the
company, any safety and operational occurrences inflight will be addressed to the original
PIC as per the station copy record at the point of dispatch.
For your strict compliance, Thank you for your attention and cooperation, and have a SAFE flight
Capt. Andrian Autawi
Chief Pilot / OF
