Script: HANSEL AND GRETEL (PLAY)

SCENE-1
{Children will play while he is speaking WOODCUTTER CUTTING WOODS AND STEPMOTHER
CLEANING THE ROOM}

NARRATOR 1: ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A BROTHER AND SISTER NAMED HANSEL AND
GRETEL.

NARRATOR 2: THEY LIVED WITH THEIR FATHER AND EVIL STEPMOTHER IN A TINY COTTAGE AT
THE EDGE OF A HUGE FOREST.

NARRATOR 1: THEIR FATHER WAS A WOODCUTTER

NARRATOR 2: HE WAS VERY VERY POOR.ONE DAY

NARRATOR 1: STOP! STOP! LET THEM SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IN THE STORY

H& G: Hey Mommy, What’s for dinner today?

Mother: Don’t bother me. I have lots of work to do. Goo and play outside with your friends.

Hansel to Gretel: How rude she is?

Gretel: I wish we had a good mother.

Hansel: Don’t feel bad dear sister. Let’s enjoy with our friends.

Narrator 1: Inspite of having so many troubles in life h& g were happy children, they enjoyed
every momemt of life. So, they WENT out with their friends to enjoy.

{DANCE PERFORMANCE BY ASTERS}

{WOODCUTTER ENTRES SADLY… AND CALLS HIS WIFE}

WOODCUTTER: WE HAVE NO MONEY LEFT TO BUY FOOD.

STEPMOTHER: WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO NOW?

WOODCUTTER: I DON’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING... HOW DO I MANAGE?

STEPMOTHER: I HAVE AN IDEA.

WOODCUTTER: WHAT IS IT?

STEPMOTHER: TAKE THE CHILDREN INTO THE FOREST AND LEAVE THEM THERE.

Woodcutter: WHAT?? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??NOOO

STEPMOTHER: THAT WAY WE WILL HAVE TWO LESS MOUTHS TO FEED.


WOODCUTTER: ARE YOU INSANE? HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? LEAVE MY CHILDREN ALONE. I
WILL NEVER DO THAT TO MY CHILDREN. NEVER, EVER!
STEPMOTHER: DO IT AS I SAY, YOU FOOL!{annoyed}

WOODCUTTER: alright!!{sigh}

{BOTH CHILDREN HIDING BEHIND THE DOOR N LISTENING THEIR CONVERSATION.}

NARRATOR 1: Hansel and Gretel had been listening behind the door and Gretel was very
frightened.
NARRATOR 2: BUT Hansel had a plan.
NARRATOR 1: NOW ‘WAIT AND WATCH’ HOW Did they rescue?
GRETEL: HANSEL, I’M AFRAID. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? WE WILL BE SENT TO THE
WOODs.

HANSEL (TO GRETEL) :( CONSOLING HER) DON’T CRY GRETEL. I KNOW WHAT TO DO. DON’T
WORRY. LEAVE IT TO ME.

Gretel: PALN? WHAT’S THAT PLAN?

HANSEL: NOOO, NOT GOING TO DISCLOSE IT NOW.. I WILL LET YOU KNOW VERY SOON..

SCENE-2(FOREST SCENE)
NARRATOR 3: Hansel crept out of the house and gathered lots of small white pebbles which
he put in his pocket.

CAPTION: NEXT MORNING


STEPMOTHER: YOUR FATHER PLANNED A PICNIC FOR YOU.
WOODCUTTER: SO, LETS GET READY.. WE WILL HAVE FUN.
Gretel: Hansel Are you sure about your plan?
Hansel: Don’t worry dear.. Have faith in God.

NARRATOR 4: The woodcutter and his wife take Hansel and Gretel into the forest.
NARRATOR 3: As they walked, WALKED AND WALKED,
NARRATOR 4: Hansel STRATED dropping the pebbles on to the path.
Stepmother: c’mon both of you walk quickly.
NARRATOR 3: After a while they came to a clearing and the woodcutter told the children to
wait.
WOODCUTTER: We are going to collect some woods.

STEPMOTHER: Come on husband. Let’s go.


WOODCUTTER : Oh poor Hansel, Gretel.
{WOODCUTTER SADLY SITS ON THE BENCH AND WAITING FOR THEIR CHILDREN}
NARRATOR 4 : THEY WERE TIRED AND SLEPT..WHEN GRETEL WOKE
GRETEL : HANSEL HANSEL WAKE UP! WE ARE ALL ALONE IN THE FOREST. MOM
AND DAD DID NOT RETURN..

GRETEL : : DAD , DAD! WHERE ARE YOU? CRYING

HANSEL: Don’t cry Gretel. We will find our way back home

{DANCE BY BUTTERCUPS}
NARRATOR 3: While walking, they could see the little white pebbles gleaming in the moonlight

NARRATOR 4: AND they followed them all the way home.

HANSEL AND GRETEL: (knock on the door) Father, father! Open the door.{BOTH SURPRISE TO

HEAR THE VOICE THEN FATHER GOES TO OPEN THE DOOR}

WOODCUTTER : Thank God you are save children. {VERY HAPPY TO SEE THEM}

STEPMOTHER : Come here husband. Tomorrow, you must take them much deeper into

the forest.

WOODCUTTER : No, I will not!

STEPMOTHER : Yes, you will!


{ STEPMOTHER WAS THINKING HOW DID THEY COME BACK THEN SUDDENLY WENT INTO THE
ROOM N FOUND PEBBLES}
SCENE-3
NARRATOR 5: That night Hansel and Gretel’s stepmother locked their door so they could not
collect any more pebbles.
{NEXT MRONING WHEN HANSEL GOT UP HE DIDN’T FIND PEBBLES IN HIS POCKETS}

NARRATOR 6: ThIS DAY the woodcutter took them deeper into the forest.
NARRATOR 5 LIKE WE ALL KNOW HANSEL IS VERY SMART. LETS SEE WHAT HE IS GOING TO
PLAN NEXT..
NARRATOR 6: YES OFCOURCE, AT THIS TIME Hansel’s pocket HAD a small piece of bread. He
crumbled up the bread and as they walked he dropped a trail of crumbs. But the birds saw
the tasty crumbs and flew down to eat them.
NARRATOR 5: OHHH SO BAD LUCK!!
BIRDS 1(4(SOUND PECK PECK PECK) WAOH!! SOOO DELICIOUS
BIRDS 2: HMMM SOOO YUMMY
BRID:3 I WANT MORE BREADCRUMS TO eat .
STEPMOTHER: Stay here until we come back to pick you up
NARRATOR:6 HANSEL AND GRETEL DID AS THEY WERE TOLD, BUT THEN NIGHT CAME.

HANSEL: Come on Gretel, it´s time to find our way home


GRETEL : I’LL HELP YOU FIND THE BREADCRUMBS.

HANSEL: I CAN’T FIND ANY !I THOUGHT SO BIRDS HAD EATEN THOSE CRUMBS..

GRETEL: ITS LATE NIGHT AND I THINK WE NEED TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STAY.

HANSEL: LET’S GO AND FIND OUT !

NARRATOR: 7 THEY STAYED IN THE CAVE FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT EATING,UNTILL THEY
FINALLY DECIDED TO GO OUT AND FIND SOME FOOD TO EAT.

NARRATOR :8 THEY WALKED DEEPER INTO THE FOREST,WHEN THEY SAW SOMETHING IN THE
DISTANCE.

NARRTAOR:7 WHAT’S THAT??

NARRATOR:8 a very strange house. The windows and the roof, the chimney, the door and
even the walls were all made from sweets and cakes. They couldn’t believe their eyes..
GRETEL : Look!! That house!
HANSEL: WHATS THAT??
GRETEL: A very strange house. The windows and the roof, the chimney, the door
and even the walls were all made from sweets and cakes.
HANSEL : I THINK SO YOU ARE HUNGRY ENOUGH THAT’S WHY YOU ARE DREAMING
ABOUT FOOD STUFF ….

GRETEL : LET’S GO AND CHECK

HANSEL: WAOH!! gingerbread!

NARRATOR : Then Gretel broke off a little piece of the door.

GRETEL : Mmm, chocolate!

H&G : What a wonderful house!


WITCH : What sound is that? Oh, i have two little hungry visitors. Come in, my dears.
(Secretly, behind hand) Hee, hee, hee.

HENSEL : Wow, this is the most delicious house I have ever seen.

NARRATOR : Then, the nasty witch grabbed Hansel. She put him inside a cage and locked
him in. Then she gave him lots of food to fatten him up.

WITCH : I tricked you. I’m going to eat you! Hee, hee, hee!

HENSEL : Please, please. Let me go old witch!


WITCH : Get sweeping!

GRETEL : I DON’T KNOW MOPPING AND BROOMING


WITCH: DO YOU KNOW WHY DID I LOCK YOU BEHIND THE BARS..
HANSEL: NOO I REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DID SO..
WITCH: NOW-ON-WARDS YOU WILL GET SUCH DELECIOUS FOOD EVERYDAY SO THAT YOU GROW
FAT AND I WILL be ABLE to satiate my hunger..
WITCH : Let me feel your finger. Too thin, too thin!

NARRATOR : Day after day the witch waited for Hansel to get fatter. However, the witch
grew very impatient. She decided that she was not going to wait any longer.

WITCH : I’m going to eat you anyway!

GRETEL : Oh dear Hansel, my poor brother.

NARRATOR : The witch told Gretel that she was going to cook Hansel in her fire. So, the
witch asked Gretel to make the fire. The witch led Gretel to the oven and opened the door.

WITCH : Now, see if the oven is in the right temperature.

GRETEL : How?

WITCH : How? What’s wrong with you girl? Haven’t you done any baking?
GRETEL : Of course you evil. I’m still a kid. How should I know?

Witch: oh silly girl you don’t know anything. I will tell you how to do? Get back.

Situation: The witch opens the door as wide as she could and peered into the oven. As fast as
she could, Gretel gave the witch an enormous push. The witch fell into the oven and Gretel
slammed the door shut. Then she ran to release Hansel from the cage. In a corner of the house
they could see something sparkling. It was the witch’s treasure. Hansel and Gretel picked it up
and began to walk back through the forest. After many days they found their way home. Their
father was overjoyed to see them and their stepmother had left. Hansel and Gretel were home
at last and the wicked witch was gone. They gave their father the treasure and they never went
hungry again.
