Unit 1 Test
Presenter On today’s programme, we’re talking about sharing a video on social media and then
waking up the next day to see that thousands of people watched it. Natalia, you’re a social
media expert. Is it good to have a very popular video like this?
Natalia It can be a good thing.
Presenter How?
Natalia It can help you get a job, when you show you can do something well. But a really silly
video could stop you from getting a job because people think you’re silly.
Presenter Of course. Can people make money from one popular video?
Natalia Yes, but it doesn’t just happen. You need to understand how to make money very quickly
before someone else shares the video and gets the money.
Presenter Oh, right!
Natalia Making videos for your own social media channel could become your job, of course. You
can make money. It’s hard work, but it’s possible.
Presenter Right. What about people’s comments? People aren’t always kind on social media.
Natalia No, they’re not, and that can make you feel really bad.
Presenter So, what’s your advice?
Natalia Don’t read the comments! And, before you share a video, imagine a lot of people see it
and write about it. Do you want this? If the answer is ‘no’, don’t share it. You never know
when a video becomes popular, and having a popular video can be both good and bad.

Unit 2 Test
Zahra Hi, Ali.
Ali Hi, Zahra. Are you ready for your visit to see us next week?
Zahra Yeah, I can’t wait. I miss you! And my aunt and uncle, too.
Ali They’re excited to see you – and your parents. So, what do you want to do when you’re
here?
Zahra I’m not sure. What do you suggest?
Ali We could go out into the desert.
Zahra And do what?
Ali Well, we can go for a walk. It’s really beautiful.
Zahra I don’t mind walking but it’s so slow. Is there anything else?
Ali What about a bike ride? That’s faster.
Zahra In the desert?
Ali Yeah, there are special desert bikes. They’ve got bigger wheels than road bikes.
Zahra Oh, I didn’t know that. Desert bikes sounds like something I’d love!
Ali We can go for a drive across the desert. We can ask our parents to take us.
Zahra OK, but let’s do something without our parents. It’s more fun.
Ali OK. There’s one more idea.
Zahra Yeah?
Ali Surfing. It’s one of the most popular things to do in the desert.
Zahra Really? Across water?
Ali No, across the desert! Across the sand, not water. It’s a little dangerous and sometimes
hard, but we can take some lessons and go somewhere that’s not high.
Zahra Hmm, the desert bikes sound safer. Let’s go on those!

Unit 3 Test
Emily On this week’s episode of Adventure Alley, Kai and I are talking about an exciting new
activity we tried. Last week, it was rafting, next week it’s parkour, and next month it’s
kayaking. What was it this week, Kai?
Kai It was speed climbing, where two people climb from the bottom of a climbing wall to the
top, but it’s a race. The person who gets to the top of the wall first is the winner.
Emily That’s right. You need to be fast!
Kai You do! We tried it at our local sports centre. Of course, we were wearing all the right
clothes and equipment, so we were safe. Emily, what did you think of it?
Emily Well, when I watch people climb the wall on TV, it looks easy – but it wasn’t. I was very
slow. You were fast.
Kai Yes, but I go climbing a lot and I know that wall well.
Emily I enjoyed watching you race against your friend, Kamila. She won!
Kai I know! She’s very good. She wants to do speed climbing in the Olympics one day.
Emily I’m not surprised.
Kai But she needs to practise more. The best speed climbers get to the top of the 15-metre
wall in around six seconds.
Emily Really?
Kai Yes. The best time in the world is just over five seconds.
Emily Amazing!

Unit 4 Test
Zainab It’s Earth Day next month. Shall we organize something for it?
Jack Yes, good idea! We can make a video and teach people about ways to protect the
environment.
Zainab That’s an interesting idea, but I was thinking that an event will be more fun.
Jack OK, so what can we do?
Zainab I’ve got a few ideas from the internet. For example, we could organize an art fair. We can
ask people to make art using waste.
Jack That sounds fantastic! If we do that, we’ll recycle plastic waste so it won’t go into the
ocean.
Zainab Yes! We could also have a ‘bring and buy’ party.
Jack What’s a ‘bring and buy’ party?
Zainab People bring things they don’t want and sell them for a very cheap price.
Jack Oh, I like that idea. Making new clothes pollutes the air and pollutes water, so a ‘bring and
buy’ party can reduce the number of new clothes people buy.
Zainab Good point! Another idea is to plant some trees. If we do that, we’ll help to make the area
around us feel better.
Jack Yes, and that helps people to feel less stressed. Green areas are good for us … But … I think
the bring and buy party will be more fun, and more people will come.
Zainab I agree, so where can we have it?
Jack Maybe at school?
Zainab Good idea! Would you mind talking to the headteacher?
Jack Yes, that’s fine. I’ll do it tomorrow.

Unit 5 Test
Mia You look annoyed, Ayla. What’s the matter?
Ayla Oh … hi, Mia. It’s silly. There’s a pair of boots I want, but they’re £80.
Mia So, what are you going to do? Does your mum give you money every week?
Ayla Yes, she does – £10. Mum pays for my clothes, but the basics, not ‘extra’ clothes. I’ve
already got a pair of boots, so she isn’t going to buy me this pair.
Mia OK, but £10 a week isn’t bad. You could save some money each week.
Ayla It’s not that easy! A soft drink costs £1. And a piece of cake can cost nearly £3.
Mia OK, OK. Don’t get angry! Can you earn any money? If you do chores at home, does your
mum pay you? I help my mum clean the house at the weekend. And I take our dog for a
walk three times a week. So, I earn an extra £10 a week for that.
Ayla That’s good, but my mum can’t afford to give me more money.
Mia Then maybe you could do jobs for other people in your family and they could give you
some money.
Ayla Hmm, I haven’t really got any other family around here. I could ask my neighbours, but I
like having my weekends free. I guess I can try to save a little pocket money each week.
It’ll take a while, but I’ll have enough money one day!

Unit 6 Test
Nina Hi, Leo.
Leo Hey, Nina! Are you online? What are you looking at?
Nina A university website – I’m thinking about what I want to do when I finish secondary school.
Leo What did you decide?
Nina I think I want to be a physiotherapist. I love sport and exercise, and biology is my favourite
subject.
Leo What things are important to be a good physiotherapist?
Nina Well, you need to be cheerful, patient and polite, but also honest with people. Also, it’s
important to listen carefully, so you know how to help people.
Leo Yes, I think you’re right. I think you could be a good physiotherapist.
Nina Thanks! When I finish high school, I’d like to spend the summer doing work experience at a
hospital.
Leo Is it necessary to study at university to become a physiotherapist?
Nina It is. You can do training and study at the same time, but I want to go to university full-
time and then get a job after that. I think it’s the best way to become a physiotherapist.
Leo That sounds like a plan.
Nina How about you? What do you want to do, Leo?
Leo Hmm … I’m not 100% sure, but I think I’d like to be a police officer.
Nina It’s a difficult job and it’s quite dangerous.
Leo But you learn how to be safe. I’d like it because I’m interested in people. I’m easy-going,
too, so I think I could be good in difficult situations.
Nina I think you’re right!

Unit 7 Test
Lily Hey, Aiden! Marcus and I are going paintballing next week. Are you interested? My uncle
Ethan’s coming, too.
Aiden Paintballing? Is that where people run around and try to hit each other with paint?
Lily Yes!
Aiden Isn’t it dangerous?
Lily Not if you’re careful. It’s brilliant. Have you been before?
Aiden No, I haven’t.
Lily It’s near the forest, about three kilometres away. Do you know that area?
Aiden No, I’ve never been there. Will it be cold?
Lily We’ll be fine. We’ll be hot from running around. Honestly, paintballing is fun. Marcus and I
went for the first time last year – and my uncle goes every year – he’s an expert!
Aiden Great.
Lily Don’t wear new clothes or new shoes though. I’ve gone home with dirty shoes when I’ve
been paintballing in the past.
Aiden Did you get paint on them?
Lily I got paint everywhere!
Aiden Everywhere?
Lily Yes! Wear dirty clothes, or clothes you can clean easily. Or, just hide so no one finds you!
Aiden Oh, good!
Lily But that’s boring!
Aiden I’m not sure. Maybe we can do something else? Like go to the museum. They’ve got an
exhibition about Rome 2,000 years ago. Have you seen it?
Lily No, I haven’t but come on! I know paintballing isn’t your usual thing, but I think you’ll
enjoy it.
Aiden OK. I’m afraid I’ll be hopeless at it, but I’ll do it.
Lily Great! We can take some photos. Our faces will be lots and lots of colours.
Aiden Our faces?!
Lily Yes, I told you. We’ll have paint everywhere!

Unit 8 Test
Presenter Welcome to the programme. Today, we’re going to talk about training and teenagers. I’m
here with sports trainer Ibrahim Hamdi. Ibrahim, how often in a week should teenagers
train?
Ibrahim Three times. Young people’s bones and muscles are still growing, so they shouldn’t train
too much, or they could hurt themselves.
Presenter Right, so what kinds of things should they do to train on those three days?
Ibrahim Both exercise that involves running about and exercise that makes them stronger.
Presenter Can you give some examples?
Ibrahim Yes, so team sports like football, or exercise like running or swimming – they’re good for
your heart. Just remember to warm up before you start, so your muscles are ready.
Presenter Good idea. And what exercise can make teenagers stronger?
Ibrahim They can lift weights at a gym or do things like crunches.
Presenter Crunches, right. Is that where you lie down and then slowly sit up without using your
hands?
Ibrahim That’s right. That type of exercise makes your muscles stronger. Teenagers should do
exercises where they run around and exercises where they get stronger, in total, for
around an hour. Two hours a day is too long, and more than once a day is too much and
can cause injury.
Presenter Should they rest on the other four days?
Ibrahim No. Just like adults, teens need regular daily activity six or seven days a week, so walking
to school, cycling with friends, throwing a ball around, or even helping parents with some
chores. Definitely not sitting in front of a screen all day!
