Learning Task 1.2

TASK 1: Experience as a Learner

Write a paragraph about your personal experience on how Technology has influenced your life
as a learner from elementary, high school, and college.

How Technology Influenced My Life as a Learner

During my elementary years, my life as a “pupil” was just simple. Technology (i.e., computers,
smartphones, printers, Wi-Fi, etc.) weren’t introduced to us that much because our elementary teachers
were still into the traditional way of teaching that time. Also, we and our neighbors couldn’t afford the
price of such technologies that is why I only had very less experience about using these technologies. It
was only in the sixth grade were our teacher introduced to us a laptop, but she didn’t use it to our daily
discussion either. Rather, the only technology she used in our class occasionally were television and DVD
player.

It was on my highschool years when I was highly exposed to technologies. Most of the teachers
during this time have already their own personal computer (PC) or laptop which are used in our class
discussions to play videos, display images, etc. When I took my two years ICT subject in our computer
laboratory, my computer skills were more developed and enhanced. I also found the classroom
discussion very interactive, especially when our teacher uses LCD projector to deliver his/her
presentation. I became more inspired to listen to my teacher every day because using these
technologies creates fun and lessens the boredom from a typical discussion. Additionally, when I was
nominated as a member of the student body, I was given a bunch of computer tasks, like creating
programs using MS Publisher, encoding the minutes of the meeting, printing images for stage
decoration, and many more. Overall, highschool became my ground not just to familiarize these
technologies, but also to use and explore their features personally and produce quality outputs out of
these technologies.

Finally, going to college made my exposure to technologies more intense. During this online
learning, almost every student is required to at least master the basic computer skills enable to make
online academic communication successful or create paper works more productively. Attending to Zoom
or Google meeting once or twice in a week has now became a new normal for all of us. As a result, I
became more literate on how to establish professional academic communication online. I became more
adaptive, open-minded, and responsible on my online behavior and on the proper utilization of my
technologies. More than that, I feel more privileged to be in this new learning setup because I am
getting used on handling computers and I am improving my computer skills a lot better and faster.
TASK 1: Experience as a Future Teacher

Write a paragraph on how you are going to use Technology when you become a teacher?

How will I use Technology When I Become a Teacher?

Technologies like computers, laptop, printer, etc. are of great demands in the education sector.
Teachers nowadays heavily relies on these technologies because it creates a very big positive impact in
their daily discussions. Hence, as an aspiring future teacher, I will use these technologies in ways that
will make the classroom discussions more interactive and engaging. Students prefers a visual aid (other
than the common manila paper) that would grab their attention and help them comprehend the lessons
more easily. Having said that, I could incorporate video presentations or virtual demonstrations more
often in the future so that my students will get attentive during the class.

It doesn’t stop here. I will let my students to personally experience using or manipulating such
technologies. The more they have the personal experience of using these technologies, the more they
could appreciate their uses and features. This exposure could hopefully develop their media literacy and
computer skills, which could help them develop a sense of independence and competency.

Finally, as a future Mathematics teacher, I could also incorporate different computer programs
which could help visualize a particular mathematical equation or problem (MS Excel, Microsoft
Mathematics, etc.). This could lessen the burden in my part and in the students’ part to understand
complex mathematical problems. More than that, it could also save time, money and effort which is
good.
