ABSTRACT
The main objective of this project is to design and develop a solar-based automatic ON/OFF
street light system with a remote controller and two operating modes: (1) Always ON and
(2) PIR Motion Detection Mode. The system aims to conserve energy by utilizing solar
power and automatically adjusting the brightness of LED street lights based on motion
detection. The light operates at full intensity upon detecting motion and dims to 50%
intensity after 20 seconds of no motion.
The use of a low-sensitivity PIR sensor enables the system to distinguish between day and
night, thereby turning off the light during daytime and activating it during night hours
without the need for LDR or microcontroller. The remote controller facilitates switching
between modes using an IR sensor interface. The system is simple, cost-effective, and ideal
for energy-efficient street lighting in urban and rural areas.
Key components used include a solar panel, rechargeable battery, DSX-PIR-03 light
controller module, PIR sensor, IR sensor for remote control, LED light strip, and connecting
wires. This system demonstrates an innovative approach to street lighting automation and
energy conservation.

INTRODUCTION
With the increasing focus on renewable energy and smart infrastructure, street lighting
systems have also evolved. Traditional street lights consume a significant amount of
electricity and often remain operational during unnecessary hours, leading to wastage of
power. This project, titled “Solar Based Automatic ON/OFF Street Light with Remote
Controller and 2 Modes,” is developed to address this inefficiency by using solar energy and
motion sensing.
The proposed system consists of two main operating modes:
1. Always ON mode – The light remains continuously ON throughout the night.
2. PIR Motion Detection mode – The light operates at full intensity when motion is detected
and reduces to 50% brightness 20 seconds after no motion is detected.
The unique aspect of the system is its capability to detect day and night without the use of
an LDR or microcontroller. Instead, the PIR sensor is configured to a low sensitivity mode to
distinguish daylight from darkness. The system is also remotely controllable using an IR
sensor, allowing the user to toggle between the two modes as required.
The objective of the project is to reduce energy consumption, utilize solar energy efficiently,
and implement a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy smart street lighting system.

COMPONENTS REQUIRED
The following components are used in the project 'Solar Based Automatic ON/OFF Street
Light with Remote Controller and 2 Modes':
1. Solar Panel
2. Rechargeable Battery
3. DSX-PIR-03 Light Controller Module
4. PIR Sensor (set to low sensitivity)
5. IR Sensor (for Remote Control)
6. LED Light Strip
7. Connecting Wires
Note: The project does not use a microcontroller or LDR, making it a purely hardware-based
solution.

DESCRIPTION
This project is designed to control a street light using solar power and a PIR motion sensor,
with additional remote-controlled mode selection. The major functionality includes
switching between two lighting modes: Always ON and PIR-based Automatic mode.
Solar Panel: The solar panel is responsible for harnessing sunlight during the day and
converting it into electrical energy, which is stored in the rechargeable battery. This stored
energy powers the LED street light at night.
Battery: A rechargeable battery stores energy generated by the solar panel. The stored
power is used to drive the LED strip during nighttime.
DSX-PIR-03 Light Controller Module: This module acts as the core controller for lighting. It
receives signals from the PIR sensor and operates the light accordingly. It is responsible for
adjusting light intensity and responding to PIR motion detection.
PIR Sensor: The Passive Infrared Sensor detects motion. It is set to low sensitivity, enabling
it to automatically disable the light during the day and activate it during the night. Upon
detecting motion, it switches the light to full brightness. After 20 seconds of no motion, the
light dims to 50% intensity.
IR Sensor and Remote Control: This component allows the user to switch between Always
ON mode and Motion Detection mode using an IR-based remote controller.
LED Light Strip: This is the lighting element, powered by the battery and controlled by the
DSX-PIR-03 module based on sensor input.
Connecting Wires: All components are interconnected using suitable gauge wires to ensure
efficient power and signal transmission.
