INTRODUCTION
SUPPLICATION FOR GUIDANCE
"اللهم إني أسألك:أن النبي صلى هللا عليه وسلم كان يقول
"الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased
with him) reported that the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه
)وسلمused to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda
wat- tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina (O Allah! I ask
You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-
sufficiency)".1

SURAH AT TAHREEM 8
َ ْ َ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ ْ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ْ ْ َ َ َّ َ
ربنا أت ِمم لنا نورنا واغ ِفرلنا ۖ ِإنك على ك ِل ش يء ق ِدير
"Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us [and do
not put it off till we cross over the Sirat (a slippery
bridge over the Hell) safely] and grant us
forgiveness. Verily, You are Able to do all things."
o We want to make decisions based on furqan –
criterion. We want to distinguish between what
is good and bad.
SURAH AL FURQAN
BACKROUND OF THE SURAH
o Before Surah Al Furqan is Surah An Noor which
is a Medinan surah. There are many rulings so
there may be light and guidance. And this is to
make society glow. Then comes Surah Al
Furqan in order to have criterion in the
guidance.

o After Surah Al Furqan is Surah Ash Shu’ara such
that one now has deep and various feelings,
and he can express based on wisdom and
criterion.
o Surah Al Furqan is a Makkan surah, it was
revealed in a time when the disbelievers
denied the Prophet ()ﷺ, such that they denied
that he should walk in the markets and eat
food, subhan Allah.
o The Prophet ( )ﷺis nurtured in order to warn
people, but then with all this denial, Allah ()ﷻ
grants console to the Prophet ()ﷺ. He tells him
that they not only deny him, but they deny Ar
Rahman – The Most Merciful Himself.
o We find situations intertwined in Surah Al
Furqan in order to be able to attain furqan and
criterion.

o And the surah concludes with Ibad Ar Rahman
Who benefit from the nurturing of the Most
Merciful. And when we are slaves to The Most
Merciful then we will have criterion and furqan.
SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 1 TO 3
بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم
1
َ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َّ َ َّ َ َ َ َ
ًاَل َين َن ِذيرا
ِ تبارك ال ِذي نزل الفرقان على عب ِد ِه ِليكون ِللع
Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon
His Servant that he may be to the worlds a
warner -

َ ْ َ َ َ َّ ُ ْ ُ ُ َ َّ
ُاْل ْ ض َو َل ْم َي َّتخ ْذ َو َل ًدا َو َل ْم َي ُكن َّله
ِ ِ ات و ر ِ ال ِذي له ملك السماو
ًَشريك في ْاَلُ ْل ِك َو َخ َل َق ُك َّل َش ْيء َف َق َّد َر ُه َت ْق ِديرا
ِ ِ
He to whom belongs the dominion of the
heavens and the earth and who has not taken
a son and has not had a partner in dominion

and has created each thing and determined it
with [precise] determination.

و اتخذوا ِمن دو ِن ِه ِآلهة ّل يخلقو شيئا وهم يخلقو وّل

يم ِلكون ِْلنف ِس ِهم ضرا وّل نفعا وّل يم ِلكون موتا وّل حياة وّل
ًُن ُشورا
But they have taken besides Him gods which
create nothing, while they are created, and
possess not for themselves any harm or benefit
and possess not [power to cause] death or life
or resurrection.
َ َ َ َ
o ()تبارك: blessed means magnified. Allah is The
Most Blessed because all His Names and
Attributes are the most blessed.
o Barakah is to have little of something, but gain
so much from it. We can have little wealth or
time, but we gain much. Or we go through a
lesson and learn so much from it.

َ ََ
The word ( )تبا َركis mentioned three times in
Surah Al Furqan. The blessing of the Qur’an is
when it comes in parts. The Qur’an itself is Al
Furqan and every ayah is “furqan” – criterion to
distinguish between matters.
o The prerequisite to attain furqan is to be a slave
of Allah, just as Allah ( )ﷻpraises the Prophet ()ﷺ
َْ
that he is His slave ()عب ِد ِه.
o The job of the Messenger ( )ﷺis to warn the
whole world and this is not easy, but requires
criterion. And the criterion is to be a slave of
Allah ()ﷻ.

SUMMARY OF AYAH 1: BLESSINGS ARE
F R O M A L L A H ( )ﷻA N D T H A T W E S H O U L D
APPRECIATE THE ROLE OF THE MESSENGER
( )ﷺA N D T H E N U R T U R I N G H E G O E S
THROUGH TO WARN THE WORLDS.
o Ayat 2 tells us about Allah ( )ﷻand that
everything belongs to Him.
o Everyone is a slave to Allah ( )ﷻand he will show
his obedience by submitting or being unable to
escape from the decree which he cannot
push away. Thus Allah is The Owner of the
heavens and the earth.
o He needs no help from anyone; He is alone.
There are many decrees that take place in
order to nurture us.

SUMMARY OF AYAH 2: EVERYTHING
BELONGS TO ALLAH AND HE NEEDS NO ONE
TO BE WITH HIM. WE ARE ALL SLAVES TO
HIM, WHETHER WE SUBMIT WILLINGLY OR
UNWILLINGLY
o Ayah 3 tells us about the disbelievers who do
not appreciate the Oneness and Might of Allah
()ﷻ.
o Furqan is to go through opposite situations
without causing any problems or issues.
o They take idols below Allah ( )ﷻand give them
all their feelings. They do not take one, but
many idols and give their heart to many. They
are “gods” not “nurturers” – they give their
feelings to those who have no power or actions
to do things.

o These false gods cannot create anything and
do not own harm or benefitting themselves;
they do not own life, death or resurrection.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 3: FALSE IDOLS DO NOT
OWN ANYTHING – NOT LIFE, DEATH OR
RESURRECTION
o These are all great criterions. It is great criterion
to have the Qur’an, to know Allah ()ﷻ, the role
of the messenger and the powerlessness of
those who do not own.

SURAH AL FURQAN
o Previously we mentioned from ayat 1 to 3
which are about those who accuse
powerlessness to Allah ()ﷻ, astaghfar Allah,
Allah ( )ﷻshows furqan by telling us of the
lacking qualification of the idols and gods they
turn to. Thus through this furqan, a person will
distinguish between the weakness of the idols
and the might of Allah ()ﷻ.

AYAT 4 TO 6 – MOCKERY OF THE
DISBELIEVERS AND THE FURQAN SET BY
ALLAH

ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ْ ْ َّ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ
وقال ال ِذين كفروا ِإن هـذا ِإّل ِإفك افتراه وأعانه علي ِه قوم
ًآخ ُرو َن ۖ َف َق ْد َج ُاءوا ُظ ْل ًما َو ُزورا
َ
And those who disbelieve say, "This [Qur'an] is
not except a falsehood he invented, and
another people assisted him in it." But they have
committed an injustice and a lie.

ً َ َ ً َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ ُ َ َ
اطيراْلو ِلين اكتتبها ف ِهي تملى علي ِه بكرة وأ ِصيل
ِ وقالوا أس
And they say, "Legends of the former peoples
which he has written down, and they are
dictated to him morning and afternoon."

ًان َغ ُفورا
َ َ ُ َّ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َّ ُ َ ْ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ
ض ۚ ِإنه ك
ِ ات واْلرِ السر ِفي السماوِ قل أنزله ال ِذي يعلم
ً َّر ِح
يما
Say, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ, "It has been revealed
by He who knows [every] secret within the

heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is ever
Forgiving and Merciful."
o Now, we will continue to see more furqan –
distinguishment – through the disrespecting
speech of the disbelievers towards the Prophet
()ﷺ.
o Let us look at the speech of the disbelievers,
and the furqan which Allah ( )ﷻsets with each
accusation.
o The disbelievers first say to the Prophet ()ﷺ:
ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ْ ْ َّ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ
( وقال ال ِذين كفروا ِإن هـذا ِإّل ِإفك افتراه وأعانه علي ِه قوم
َ َ ُو
)آخر ن (And those who disbelieve say, "This
[Qur'an] is not except a falsehood he invented,
and another people assisted him in it.").
Anyone who disbelieves in Allah ( )ﷻwill

disbelieve in the Prophet ()ﷺ, so we should not
be shocked when they show this type of harm.
o They accuse the Qur’an of being fabricated,
thus accusing the truthfulness of the Prophet
()ﷺ, astaghfar Allah. The Prophet ( )ﷺis known
to all from before that he is As Sadiq Al ‘Ameen
– honest and trustworthy – so how can they say
this now?
o The reality is those who do not believe will
fabricate and make-up things.
o Furqan: let us see what is the furqan mentioned
by Allah ( ?)ﷻWhat do we say to being
ْ ََ
accused of fabricating? Allah ( )ﷻsays: ( فقد
ً) َج ُاءوا ُظ ْل ًما َو ُزورا (But they have committed an
injustice and a lie) – do not take in what they
say. They way of disbelievers is to put down the

one on the truth, by putting down the self, so a
person is broken. But to say what they are
saying is an injustice and a lie is furqan.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 4: WHEN BEING
ACCUSED OF LYING, THE CRITERION IS TO
SAY WHAT IS BEING SAID IS UNJUST AND A
LIE.
o In ayah 5, a liar wants to make his false words
appear detailed and sophisticated, so it
cannot be accused of being a lie.
o Now, they further accuse the Qur’an of being
tales of legends and the Prophet ( )ﷺhas had it
written and compiled, though the Prophet ()ﷺ
َ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ ُ َ َ
cannot read or write (اطير اْلو ِلين اكتتبهاِ )وقالوا أس
(And they say, "Legends of the former peoples
which he has written down,)

o They also accuse these stories are being
dictated to him in the morning and night, as if
he is absorbed in them because he recites the
ْ ََ َْ ُ
Qur’an day and night, subhan Allah. ( تملى علي ِه
ً ََ ًَ ْ ُ
( )بكرة وأ ِصيلand they are dictated to him
morning and afternoon.").
SUMMARY OF AYAH 5: THOSE WHO MAKE
UP LIES WILL TRY TO ADD SPECIFIC
DETAILS TO THEIR LIES TO MAKE IT APPEAR
AS TRUTH
o In ayah 6, we find the furqan response of Allah
( )ﷻto the accusation made in ayah 5. The
disbelievers accuse the Qur’an of being
legends and being dictated to the Prophet
()ﷺ.

o The furqan here is the Prophet ( )ﷺmust talk
back and answer them, unlike before. What
does he need to say?
َ َ ُ َّ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َّ ُ َ ْ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ
o ( ض ۚ ِإنه كان ِ ات واْلر ِ السر ِفي السماو
ِ قل أنزله ال ِذي يعلم
ً ( ) َغ ُفSay, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ, "It has
ًورا َّر ِحيما
been revealed by He who knows [every] secret
within the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He
is ever Forgiving and Merciful.")
o Allah ( )ﷻwants to guide all and he wants the
Prophet ( )ﷺto show mercy. The Prophet ()ﷺ
does not need to be in a defensive mode, but
to elevate them and tell them that Allah ( )ﷻis
The Most Forgiving, Especially Merciful, subhan
Allah.

o The Prophet ( )ﷺis to say that the Qur’an is
revealed by the One Who knows all secrets in
the heavens and earth. They are fabricating
and Allah ( )ﷻsays He knows their secrets and
why they do this. When we know Allah ()ﷻ
knows our secrets then it leads us to change
our illicit ways.
o After this warning, Allah ( )ﷻtells us that if we
return in repentance, Allah ( )ﷻforgives and
shows special mercy.
o With their denial of Allah ()ﷻ, the Prophet ()ﷺ
and the Qur’an – Allah ( )ﷻdid not invite them
to the fire, but to repentance and mercy, and
this is the furqan. This shows us how Allah ( )ﷻis
The Most Merciful, subhan Allah.

SUMMARY OF AYAH 6: FURQAN IS NOT
ABOUT HARMING OTHERS, BUT WARNING
IN ORDER TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER –
TO ATTAIN FORGIVENESS AND MERCY
MAY ALLAH GRANT US FURQAN. MAY ALLAH FORGIVE US
AND HAVE MERCY ON US. AMEEN.

SURAH AL FURQAN
o The greatest furqan is to know Who is Allah ()ﷻ
and here we find how the disbelievers have no
furqan so they are in constant change of
direction with their talk.
AYAT 7 TO 9 – MOCKERY OF THE

وقالوا م ِال هـذا الرسو ِل يأكل الطعام ويم ِش ي ِفي اْلسو ِاق ۙ لوّل
ًُأنز َل إ َل ْي ِه َم َلك َف َي ُكو َن َم َع ُه َن ِذيرا
ِ ِ

And they say, "What is this messenger that eats
food and walks in the markets? Why was there
not sent down to him an angel so he would be
with him a warner?

َ ُ َّ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ ْ َ َّ َ ُ َ ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ
أو يلقى ِإلي ِه كنزأو تكون له جنة يأكل ِمنها ۚ وقال الظ ِاَلون ِإن
ًَت َّتب ُعو َن إ َّّل َر ُج ًل َّم ْس ُحورا
ِ ِ
Or [why is not] a treasure presented to him [from
heaven], or does he [not] have a garden from
which he eats?" And the wrongdoers say, "You
follow not but a man affected by magic."

ً َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ ُّ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ
انظركيف ضربوا لك اْلمثال فضلوا فل يست ِطيعون س ِبيل
Look how they strike for you comparisons; but
they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.
o Now they do not mock the message of the
Prophet ()ﷺ, but personally mock him, subhan
Allah.

َ ْ َْ ْ َ َ َ َ َّ ُ ُ ْ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ ُ َ َ
o
ِ )وقالوا م ِال هـذا الرسو ِل يأكل الطعام ويم ِش ي ِفي اْلسو
(ۙ اق
(And they say, "What is this messenger that eats
food and walks in the markets?): They lowingly
think a messenger should not eat food or walk
in the markets, subhan Allah. They think these
are human qualities that take him down as a
messenger; as if he has to be an “angel.”
o The Prophet ( )ﷺeats and walks in the market
to show he is human, but this does not negate
being a messenger or a slave of Allah ()ﷻ.
o There are those who think that people of
religion do not eat or go to the markets, as if it
is lacking piety, subhan Allah, though this is not
the case. The example of the Prophet ( )ﷺis
someone who eats and walks in the market

and he is the best messenger, worshipper and
da’ee.
o Furqan is one who is able to do everything that
is halal and stay away from haram, and has
boundaries. For example, one says the dua
before entering the marketplace and so forth.
ً َ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ َن
o (نزل ِإلي ِه ملك فيكو معه ن ِذيراِ ( )لوّل أWhy was there
not sent down to him an angel so he would be
with him a warner?): and they think the Prophet
( )ﷺshould have an angel to be with him while
eating and going to the market so that he
warns the people, subhan Allah. As if to say,
“an angel” that does not eat or go in the
markets is the one who should warn. Their
furqan is separation or that a warner is
someone not humanly, does not eat or walk in
the market.

o However, the real furqan is not about making
separation, but that one has all the qualities –
eat, walk in the marketplace and warn.
o The religion is not extreme such that if someone
is a worshipper then he can only be a
worshipper. Rather, one can be everything.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 7: FURQAN IS NOT
ABOUT LOSING ONE’S HUMANITY WHEN
FOLLOWING THE DEEN
َ ْ ُ ُ ْ َ َّ َ ُ َ ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ
o (ۚ ( )أو يلقى ِإلي ِه كنز أو تكون له جنة يأكل ِمنهاOr [why is
not] a treasure presented to him [from
heaven], or does he [not] have a garden from
which he eats?"): In ayah 8, they mock his
financial status that he should just be sitting in
one place and money comes to him. They
expect him to be rich without working and

treasures come to him. The messengers work
and earn; they do not receive money from the
people.
o Or they say the Messenger needs to have a
garden so that he eats from it. The Prophet ()ﷺ
does not have this and this does not make him
any less.
o So we see they expect the worldly life needs to
be readily set up for him and that he does not
work.
o Going to the market is also dawah when
seeing others, showing good behavior and so
forth.
ً ُ ْ َّ ً ُ َ َّ َ ُ َّ َ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ
o (اَلون ِإن تت ِبعون ِإّل رجل مسحورا
ِ )وقال الظ (And the
wrongdoers say, "You follow not but a man
َ ُ َّ
affected by magic."): they are (اَلون
ِ – )الظthose

who are unjust who place things in the wrong
place by saying a messenger is not human.
o Then they further say the messenger is
bewitched and under the control of jinn.
o They know the Prophet ( )ﷺis sane, speaks the
best, is generous, kind and good. However,
they want to put him down by accusing him of
being bewitched and under the effect.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 8: THE WRONGDOERS
WILL SPEAK WITH CONTRADICTIONS
o In ayah 9, we find the furqan after being
accused of not being human and being
bewitched, subhan Allah.
ً َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ ُّ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ
o ()انظركيف ضربوا لك اْلمثال فضلوا فل يست ِطيعون س ِبيل
(Look how they strike for you comparisons; but
they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a

way.): Allah ( )ﷻtells the Prophet ( )ﷺto face it,
“look at how they give such examples”, look
how at how ridiculous are their examples, so
take it lightly.
ُّ َ َ
o They are ( – )فضلواtotally misguided – so they
cannot find a straight way or straight example
to say. They speak foolishly with no furqan.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 9: FURQAN IS TO FACE
THE MATTER AND LOOK AT THE
FOOLISHNESS OF THEIR SPEECH, SO DO
NOT GET AFFECTED
o In conclusion, such decrees and examples
build up a person to become Ibad Ar Rahman
with furqan.

INTRODUCTION
o After Surah An Noor comes Surah Al Furqan, so
after light, Allah ( )ﷻwill grant us furqan, console
and even sharper vision.
o Surah Al Furqan was revealed in Makkah when
the Prophet ( )ﷺwas facing a great amount of
trouble from the disbelievers of Quraish. Allah
( )ﷻgranted him furqan, to further distinguish
between matters. And to have furqan gives
great console because matters become clear.

o Whenever going through tough times, we must
know that after it are great openings from Allah
()ﷻ.
AYAT 10 TO 14 – CONSOLE AND

تبارك ال ِذي ِإن شاء جعل لك خيرا ِمن ذ ِلك جنات تج ِري ِمن
َْ َ ْ َ
ُ اْل ْن َه ُار َو َي ْج َعل َّل َك ُق
ًصورا تح ِتها
Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have
made for you [something] better than that -
gardens beneath which rivers flow - and could
make for you palaces.

َّ اعة ۖ َو َأ ْع َت ْد َنا َلَن َك َّذ َب ب
َ الس
ًاع ِة َس ِعيرا َّ َب ْل َك َّذ ُبوا ب
َ الس
ِ ِ ِ ِ
But they have denied the Hour, and We have
prepared for those who deny the Hour a Blaze.

ًإ َذا َرَأ ْت ُهم ِمن َّم َكان َب ِعيد َسم ُعوا َل َها َت َغ ُّي ًظا َو َز ِفيرا

When the Hellfire sees them from a distant
place, they will hear its fury and roaring.

ًضي ًقا ُّم َق َّرِن َين َد َع ْوا ُه َن ِال َك ُث ُبوراَ َوإ َذا ُأ ْل ُقوا م ْن َها َم َك ًانا

And when they are thrown into a narrow place
therein bound in chains, they will cry out
thereupon for destruction.

ً اح ًدا َو ْاد ُعوا ُث ُب
ًورا َك ِثيرا ِ
َورا و
ً َُّّل َت ْد ُعوا ْال َي ْو َم ُثب
[They will be told], "Do not cry this Day for one
destruction but cry for much destruction."
o Sometimes we magnify evil such that it
dominates us, though this should not be the
case. Allah ( )ﷻsays look at these examples the
disbelievers give, and by calling it “example” is
to belittle what they say.
o And now we find great console and elevation
from Allah ( )ﷻto the Prophet ()ﷺ.

o ( تبارك ال ِذي ِإن شاء جعل لك خيرا ِمن ذ ِلك جنات تج ِري ِمن
َْ َ ْ َ
ُ اْل ْن َه ُار َو َي ْج َعل َّل َك ُق
ًصورا ( )تح ِتهاBlessed is He who, if
He willed, could have made for you
[something] better than that - gardens
beneath which rivers flow - and could make for
you palaces.): the disbelievers previously said,
“how could a prophet work and not have
riches or garden?”, thus attacking the simple
life of the Prophet ()ﷺ. However, Allah ()ﷻ
answers them and says, “Blessed [is Allah]”.
o The Prophet ( )ﷺshould never think Allah ()ﷻ
does not want to give him; He can give him
better, but we must know Blessed is Allah – His
blessing and goodness are great. And the
greatest blessing upon the Prophet ( )ﷺis that

he is a messenger, the Qur’an is revealed on
him and he calls mankind and jinn to Islam.
o If it is good for him to have these worldly
matters, then He will give him. Allah is The
Owner of Blessing and He can place blessing in
whatever He wills.
o Had Allah ( )ﷻwilled, He would not only give the
Prophet ( )ﷺgardens, but gardens with rivers
flowing underneath and this is the description
of the gardens of paradise. And He could give
him palaces like none other seen on this earth.
o But this duniya is a test, if it wasn’t a test, then
those who are good will have the best of the
duniya and those who are evil will have the
worst of the duniya, but this is not the case. The
duniya is a test – for some, their test is richness
and for some it is poverty, for some their test is

health and for some it is sickness. For some their
test is strength and for some it is weakness.
o Allah ( )ﷻwants the Prophet ( )ﷺto be strong
and a role model. The duniya is a test to be
pious and accept the decree of Allah (– )ﷻ
grateful if given and patient if not.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 10: THE FURQAN IS
THIS LIFE IS A TEST AND NOT THE PLACE
OF RESULTS. BE GRATEFUL WHEN GIVEN
AND PATIENT WHEN NOT
o If someone is constantly making fun of
someone and does not cease, then surely
there must be an inner-issue, what is it?
َ َّ ُ َّ َ ْ َ
o (ۖ )بل كذبوا ِبالساع ِة (But they have denied the
Hour,): they disbelieve in the Judgement Day,
thus anyone who disbelieves in the Last Day will
be reflected outwardly with bad behavior. The

one who believes in the Last Day will have
good behavior. That is why anyone who
believes in Allah ( )ﷻand the Last Day then let
him say good or remain silent and honor his
guest and neighbors.
o Thus we should increase in faith in the Last Day
and this comes with knowing its details. We
need to live in the future before the future
comes. Believing in the Last Day leads to
performing good deeds and having good
manners with others.
o Next we find the punishment of those who
disbelieved in the Last Day.
ً َ َ َّ َ َّ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ
o ()وأعتدنا َِلن كذب ِبالساع ِة س ِعيرا (and We have
prepared for those who deny the Hour a
ً )س ِع
Blaze.): one of the names of the fire is (يرا
َ

which means flaming fire and they deserve this
kind of flame for flaming the hearts of people.
o The punishment of the hellfire is in line with the
way the disbelievers acted. May Allah free us
from the hellfire and never make us among
those who cause flames in the hearts of
people. Ameen.
o Let us take the opposite, if we believe in the

o (( ) ِإذا رأتهم ِمن مكان ب ِعيد س ِمعوا لها تغيظا وز ِفيراWhen
the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they
will hear its fury and roaring.): the fire can spot
the disbeliever from a distance and they will
hear its fury and roaring. The fire is angry with
them such that it exhales with a loud, furious
sound.
o And this punishment is in line with what they
did; they were aggressive and showed great
fury towards the Prophet ()ﷺ.
SUMMARY OF AYAH 12: FURQAN IS THAT
RECOMPENSE IS LINE WITH THE DEED
o In conclusion, belief in the Last Day is a great
driver in reforming us for the better, and
disbelief in the Last Day drives a person to
lowliness.

INTRODUCTION
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto free our necks from the fire
and pardon us. And the state of a believer is
always good – he is patient when facing
difficulties and grateful in good times.
SURAH AL FURQAN
o Previously, we mentioned the reason for one
who follows his desires and harms the
Messenger ()ﷺ, is due to his lack of belief in the
Last Day.

Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have
made for you [something] better than that -
gardens beneath which rivers flow - and could

prepared for those who deny the Hour a Blaze.

[They will be told], "Do not cry this Day for one

()وإذا ألقوا ِمنها مكانا ض ِيقا (And when they are

thrown into a narrow place therein bound in
chains,): they will be thrown in the fire in a
humiliating and disgraceful manner,
specifically in a tight place in the fire. This tight
place is a like a prison in the fire, may Allah
protect us. Ameen. We find how the fire has
levels.
o When they mocked and put down the
Messenger ()ﷺ, they placed themselves in a

tighter hole. The one who disbelieves is tight
and likes to tighten on others.
ً ُ ُ َ َ ُ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ ُّ
o ()مقرِنين دعوا هن ِالك ثبورا (they will cry out
thereupon for destruction.): in addition they will
be chained, unable to move. Similarly in this
life, they chained themselves to disbelief,
mockery, and tightening on others. Thus they
find no relief or freedom.
o They will be unable to do anything except to
cry, and not to be taken out or saved, but they
cry and call to be destroyed and dead. We ask
Allah for the wellbeing. Ameen.
o Only death can be relief for them, but there is
no death in the hereafter.
o They are facing physical and emotional
torment, just as they tormented others in the
same way.

o It is important that we never ask for destruction
or to end of our lives while we are here in this
life because there is always a way out with
Allah, but not in the fire.
ً َ ً ُ ُ ُ ْ َ ً َ ً ُ ُ َ ْ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َّ
o (احدا وادعوا ثبورا ك ِثيرا
ِ [( )ّل تدعوا اليوم ثبورا وThey will
be told], "Do not cry this Day for one
destruction but cry for much destruction."): let
them not only cry once, but many times, and
this is said out of mockery to them. Whether
they call once or many times, there is no use or
relief.

َو َم ِص ًيرا
Say, "Is that better or the Garden of Eternity
which is promised to the righteous? It will be for
them a reward and destination.

ً ُ ْ َّ ً ْ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ َّ
لهم ِفيها ما يشاءون خ ِال ِدين ۚ كان على رِبك وعدا مسئوّل
For them therein is whatever they wish, [while]
abiding eternally. It is ever upon your Lord a
promise [worthy to be] requested.
ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ ُ َّ ُ ْ َ ُ َّ ْ ُ ْ ُ َّ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ
o ( قل أذ ِلك خير أم جنة الخل ِد ال ِتي و ِعد اَلتقون ۚ كانت لهم
( ) َج َز ًاء َو َم ِص ًيراSay, "Is that better or the Garden
of Eternity which is promised to the righteous?
It will be for them a reward and destination.):
tell them O Mohammed ()ﷺ, which is better,

the fire previously mentioned or garden of
eternity?
o Taqwa is to perform the commands and
abstain from sins with light from Allah ()ﷻ, the
Qur’an and Sunnah.
o Allah ( )ﷻgives furqan to the muttaqeen, who
are truthful and do not follow desires.
o The muttaqeen held themselves from their
desires, but are rewarded with vastness in
paradise.
o Paradise is a reward for them due to their
taqwa and it is their destination, they will not
leave it. We ask Allah of His favor. Ameen.
o Taqwa is to hold ourselves from following our
feelings and perform good deeds instead.
FURQAN OF AYAH 15: FURQAN IS TO SHOW
AND DECIDE BETWEEN TWO OPPOSITES

o ()لهم ِفيها ما يشاءون خ ِال ِدين ۚ كان على رِبك وعدا مسئوّل
(For them therein is whatever they wish, [while]
abiding eternally. It is ever upon your Lord a
promise [worthy to be] requested.): they will
have all they desire because in this life they
stopped themselves from reacting and
following their desires.
o They will eat, drink and visit one another in
paradise. Everyone will be one heart; it is just a
temporary struggle in this life in exchange for
eternal delights. When we truly set this
measure, we will not fight for this lowly duniya.
o And the greatest reward is to enjoy the
nearness of Allah, to feel secure of being near,
to hear His voice and to look at His Noble Face.
We ask Allah of His favor. Ameen.

o This is a promise upon your Lord, O Mohammed
()ﷺ, that is worthy to ask for – and that is to ask
for paradise. We ask Allah of paradise, we ask
Allah of paradise, we ask Allah of paradise.
o We should always ask Allah for paradise and
Firdaous Al ‘Ala and we will be granted this if
we are truthful in our dua.
FURQAN OF AYAH 16: FURQAN IS TO ASK
ALLAH FOR PARADISE AND FIRDAOUS AL
‘ALA, DO NOT ASK ONLY FOR THE DUNIYA
MAY ALLAH GRANT US FURQAN, PROTECT US FROM THE
FIRE AND GRANT US PARADISE. AMEEN.

INTRODUCTION
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto make us see the truth as
truth and to follow it and see falsehood as
falsehood and stay away from it.
o We have this life to benefit from the truth and
furqan, but when life passes, the reality will be
revealed to all. Furqan will be apparent but it is
of no avail to the one who did not implement
this furqan in his life. We have to decide,
“which group do we choose?”.

SURAH AL FURQAN
o Previously, we mentioned the recompense in
the Last Day – for both the dwellers of the fire
and paradise. Allah ( )ﷻsets up the image of
those in the fire, in a tight place, due to their
tightness in this life and tightening on others,
and there is vastness in paradise for those who
held back their desires in this life.
o Now we will see the severity of shirk and how
this causes furqan, distinction and separation
on the Last Day.
AYAT 17 TO 19 – SCENE OF RECOMPENSE

ْ ّللا َف َي ُقو ُل َأ َأ ُنت ْم َأ
ْض َل ْل ُتم َّ َو َي ْو َم َي ْح ُش ُر ُه ْم َو َما َي ْع ُب ُدو َن من ُدون
ِ ِ ِ
َالسبيلَّ ض ُّلوا َ ع َبادي َهـ ُؤَّلء َأ ْم ُه ْم
ِ ِ ِ ِ
And [mention] the Day He will gather them and
that which they worship besides Allah and will

say, "Did you mislead these, My servants, or did
they [themselves] stray from the way?"

َان َي َنب ِغي َل َنا َأن َّن َّت ِخ َذ من ُدو ِن َك م ْن َأ ْو ِل َياء
َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ َ
قالوا سبحانك ما ك
ِ ِ
ًالذ ْك َر َو َك ُانوا َق ْو ًما ُبورا ُ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َّ َّ َ َ
ِ ولـ ِكن متعتهم و آباءهم حتى نسوا
They will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for us
to take besides You any allies. But You provided
comforts for them and their fathers until they
forgot the message and became a people
ruined."
19
َ َ ً ْ َ َ َ ً ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ ُ ُ َ َ ُ ُ َن َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َن
فقد كذبوكم ِبما تقولو فما تست ِطيعو صرفا وّل نصرا ۚ ومن
ًنك ْم ُن ِذ ْق ُه َع َذ ًابا َكبيرا
ُ ْ َ
ِ يظ ِلم ِم
So they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you
say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or
[find] help. And whoever commits injustice
among you - We will make him taste a great
punishment.
َّ ُ َ ُ ُْ َ َ َ ْ ُُ ُ ْ َ َ ْ ََ
o ِ )ويوم يحشرهم وما يعبدون ِمن دو ِن
(ّللا (And
[mention] the Day He will gather them and that

which they worship besides Allah): all of those
worshipped besides Allah ( )ﷻwill be gathered
on the Last Day; however, there are those who
called on the people to worship them and
those who did not call the people to worship
them, but people idolized them.
o Firaoun called on the people to worship him
and Jesus (peace be upon him), Maryam
(peace be upon her), and the angels are
worshipped, though they did not call the
people to worship them.
o Allah ( )ﷻwill ask them all, “did you mislead My
slaves?” – and this conversation will be furqan.
o Allah ( )ﷻwill gather all the mushrikeen, those
who associated with Him, and all of those who
were worshipped besides Him. What will He say
to those who were worshipped and idolized?

َ ض َل ْل ُت ْم ع َبادي َهـ ُؤَّلء َأ ْم ُه ْم
َّ ض ُّلوا
َ(السبيل ْ ) َف َي ُقو ُل َأ َأ ُنت ْم َأ
o
ِ ِ ِ ِ
(and will say, "Did you mislead these, My
servants, or did they [themselves] stray from the
way?"): Allah ( )ﷻwill ask them, did you mislead
My slaves or did they take the wrong path?
FURQAN OF AYAH 17: FURQAN IS TO BRING
FORWARD BOTH PARTIES – THE
WORSHIPPRES AND THOSE BEING
WORSHIPPED
ْ َ ُ َ َّ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ َ
o ( قالوا سبحانك ما كان ينب ِغي لنا أن نت ِخذ ِمن دو ِنك ِمن
َ( ) َأ ْو ِل َياءThey will say, "Exalted are You! It was not
for us to take besides You any allies.): those
who were worshipped will say they are not
worthy of being worshipped, so they will say,
“Glory be to You”, how could they even be
worshipped, how can the people ever worship

them, subhan Allah. Note this refers to those
who were worshipped and did not call the
people to it such Eisa (peace be upon him)
and the angels.
o And that is furqan to not accept the wrong.
o They further say, we cannot take anyone
besides Allah as Wali – The True Ally – Who
supports and gives victory.
o So they negate how could they go against
Him. We have to take Allah as an Ally; we
cannot take others as allies such as the
believers or angels while leaving Allah ()ﷻ.
o This shows that the people chose the wrong
way; those being worshipped did not tell the
people to worship them. And now what will
those being worshipped say about the
worshippers?

َ(الذ ْكر ُ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َّ َّ ََ
o ِ )ولـ ِكن متعتهم و آباءهم حتى نسوا (But You
provided comforts for them and their fathers
until they forgot the message): they indulged in
this life and its desires, and their forefathers as
well. Allah ( )ﷻmakes us enjoy in this life, but at
the same time, He does not leave us without
guidance. He does not leave us without
remembering Him. They indulged in this duniya
and forgot Allah ()ﷻ.
ً ُ ً ْ َ ُ ََ
o ()وكانوا قوما بورا (and became a people
ruined."): since they forgot the reminders, they
ُ
ً – )بdestroyed
became a people who are (ورا
and ruined. Thus lack of remembrance of Allah
( )ﷻdestroys and ruins us. We Allah for the well-
being. Ameen.

FURQAN OF AYAH 18: FURQAN IS TO ENJOY
IN THIS LIFE AND REMEMBER ALLAH AS
WELL
َ ُ ُ َ َ ُ ُ َّ َ ْ َ َ
o ()فقد كذبوكم ِبما تقولون (So they will deny you,
[disbelievers], in what you say,): it will be said to
the worshippers, “look at those whom you
worshipped, they deny you and belie you.”
ً ْ َ َ َ ً ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َن
o (ۚ )فما تست ِطيعو صرفا وّل نصرا (and you cannot
avert [punishment] or [find] help.): And so now
their crime surrounds them and they will be
unable to divert the punishment or find anyone
to help them from this torment.
ً َ ً ََ ُْ ُ ْ ُ ْ َ ََ
o ()ومن يظ ِلم ِمنكم ن ِذقه عذابا ك ِبيرا (And whoever
commits injustice among you - We will make
him taste a great punishment.): shirk is torment

in this life and the next because it is the right of
Allah to be worshipped alone.
FURQAN OF AYAH 19: FURQAN IS NOT
ABOUT JUST BRINGING THE PUNISHMENT,
BUT TO EXPERIENCE THE WRONG
COMMITTED.
MAY ALLAH PROTECT US FROM SHIRK AND DISGRACE.

INTRODUCTION
SUPPLICATION FOR GUIDANCE
"اللهم إني أسألك:أن النبي صلى هللا عليه وسلم كان يقول
"الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased
with him) reported that the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه
)وسلمused to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-
huda wat- tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina (O Allah! I
ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-
sufficiency)".2

o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto guide us to the best deeds,
actions and speech. With guidance there is
furqan. And if there is no furqan, criterion, then
there will be no standard.
SURAH AL FURQAN
o Previously, we mentioned how those who
worshipped anyone besides Allah ( )ﷻwill see
the very thing they worshipped denying them
and saying they cannot be worthy to be
worshipped. And now we will look an ayah that
is a divine nurturing rule.
o It is a solution and remedy for anything that
can happen to people – whether parents to
children, husband to wife, students to
teachers, messengers to people.

o Knowing this rule will protect us from indulging
in trials or conflict. A person will have furqan to
distinguish in order to not over-react.
AYAH 20 – A DIVINE, NURTURING RULE

َّ َ ُ ُ ْ َ َ ْ ُ َّ َّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
َالط َعام وما أرسلنا قبلك ِمن اَلرس ِلين ِإّل ِإنهم ليأكلون
َ ُ ْ ََ ً َْ ْ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ََْ َ َ َ ْ َْ َ ُ ْ ََ
ۗ ويمشون ِفي اْلسو ِاق ۗ وجعلنا بعضكم ِلبعض ِفتنة أتص ِبرون
َ ََ
ًان َرُّب َك َب ِصيراوك
And We did not send before you, [O
Muhammad (])ﷺ, any of the messengers
except that they ate food and walked in the
markets. And We have made some of you
[people] as trial for others - will you have
patience? And ever is your Lord, Seeing.
o This ayah is actually an answer to ayah 7:
SURAH AL FURQAN 7

And they say, "What is this messenger that eats
food and walks in the markets? Why was there
not sent down to him an angel so he would be
with him a warner?
o Furqan is not to separate from the people – we
have to be with people, we have to eat and
go to the market.
o Notice the answer does not immediately
appear after ayah 7, but after mentioning the
status of the Prophet ( )ﷺand the Judgement
Day, then comes the answer. So furqan is not
about immediately answering.
َ َ َّ َ ُ ُ ْ َ َ ْ ُ َّ َّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
o ( وما أرسلنا قبلك ِمن اَلرس ِلين ِإّل ِإنهم ليأكلون الطعام
َ ْ َْ َ ُ ْ ََ
ۗ ( )ويمشون ِفي اْلسو ِاقAnd We did not send before
you, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ, any of the
messengers except that they ate food and
walked in the markets.): in order to look at

things with more insight, we must be with
people. The messenger is with people, he has
needs, he gets hungry and eats, he goes to the
markets, so he knows what the people go
through. He is relatable.
o The messengers are good examples for
people; they are not idols or icons who just set
an image.
o When the Prophet ( )ﷺeats and goes to the
market, it is all to be a good example. The
messengers teach people through their ways
and to show they are not just one set picture,
but they change.
o The Prophet ( )ﷺalways changed his look,
food, slippers and so forth.
َ ُ ْ ََ ً َْ ْ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ََْ َ َ
o (ۗ ( )وجعلنا بعضكم ِلبعض ِفتنة أتص ِبرونAnd We have
made some of you [people] as trial for others -

will you have patience?): if someone argues
about someone or puts another down, then it
shows there is nurturing going on between
them. They are a trial for one another.
o The messengers are a trial for the people and
the people are a trial for the messengers, but in
general, this can happen with opposites.
o It is important to not indulge in the trial, but
have furqan and the furqan is to know that
Allah ( )ﷻmakes us tests for one another, so we
need to be patient.
o The rich is a test for the poor, the healthy is a
test for the sick, the intelligent is a test for the
ignorant; we do not want to transgress when
we meet with opposites. We need to hold
ourselves from being arrogant, jealous or

oppressive. But if we are patient, we will be
greatly rewarded.
ً َ َ ُّ َ َ ََ
o (صيرا
ِ ( )وكان ربك بAnd ever is your Lord, Seeing.):
no one can see who is test for the other, but
Allah is The All-Seer to see what we go through.
He sees if we are accepting or not; He knows
what we feel and what we intend.
o Thus we will be benefit from a situation when
we know this. People are tests for us, with their
attitude, behavior, and even nature – but we
should be patient and not have expectations
from them.
FURQAN OF AYAH 20: FURQAN IS THAT
HIMSELF ALLAH MAKES US TESTS FOR ONE
ANOTHER AND THE SOLUTION IS TO BE
PATIENT

INTRODUCTION
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto protect us from all trials –
apparent and hidden. Trials and furqan cannot
go together. People are a test for one another.
o The messengers are tests for the people due to
their natures and who they are, and the
people are a test for the messengers due to
being rejected by them.
o Though we ask Allah ( )ﷻto make the people
around us to be a coolness of eyes.

SURAH AL FURQAN
o Furqan is when we believe in the unseen. And
now the disbelievers want to bring angels in the
picture, though they have already rejected
the messengers, subhan Allah.
o They will ask for something, and not because
they want to verify the truth or to increase in
faith. They are simply asking due to their
increased stubbornness and arrogance.
AYAT 21 TO 22 – DISBELIEVING ATTITUDE

َ َّ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ ْ ُ َن َ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َل َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ى
ۗ وقال ال ِذين ّل يرجو ِلقاءنا لوّل أ ِنز علينا اَلل ِئكة أو نر ربنا
ًاس َت ْك َب ُروا في َأ ُنف ِسه ْم َو َع َت ْوا ُع ُت ًّوا َكبيرا
ْ َل َقد

And those who do not expect the meeting with
Us say, "Why were not angels sent down to us, or
[why] do we [not] see our Lord?" They have
certainly become arrogant within themselves
and [become] insolent with great insolence.

ًولو َن ِح ْجرا يوم يرون اَلل ِئكة ّل بشرى يوم ِئذ ِللمج ِر ِمين ويق

ورا
The day they see the angels - no good tidings
will there be that day for the criminals, and [the
angels] will say, "Prevented and inaccessible."
o It is furqan to hope to meet Allah ()ﷻ, but the
disbelievers do not hope to meet Allah ()ﷻ.
o Someone may ask, “what is the attitude of
someone who does not want to meet Him?”
They take it very lightly. They go as far to say,
“to see our Lord” in this life, subhan Allah.
o This shows they do not believe in meeting Allah
( )ﷻbecause if they believed in Him, they would
not say something like this.
o No one can see Allah ( )ﷻin this life; only the
people of paradise in the hereafter will see His
Face, we ask Allah of His favor. Ameen.

SUPPLICATION TO SEE THE NOBLE FACE
OF ALLAH

َ الش ْو َق إ َلى ل َقائ َك في َغ ْير
َض َّراء
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ وأسألك لذة النظ ِر ِإلى وج ِهك و
ً َ ُ ََْ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ َّ ُ َّ َّ ُ َ ْ َ َ َّ ُ
اإليم ِان واجعلنا هداة ِ م ِضرة وّل ِفتنة م ِضلة اللهم زِينا ِب ِزين ِة
َُم ْه َتدين
ِ
I ask You for the sweetness of looking upon Your
face and a longing to meet You in a manner
that does not entail a calamity that will bring
about harm or a trial that will cause deviation.
O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith
and make us among those who guide and are
rightly guided.3
FURQAN OF AYAH 21: FURQAN IS TO
BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND IN THE ANGELS,
THOUGH WE DO NOT SEE THEM.
ً ْ َ ُ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ ََ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ
o ( يوم يرون اَلل ِئكة ّل بشرى يوم ِئذ ِللمج ِر ِمين ويقولون ِحجرا
ً ( ) َّم ْح ُجThe day they see the angels - no good

tidings will there be that day for the criminals,

and [the angels] will say, "Prevented and
inaccessible."): there will be no glad tidings,
happiness or hope when they see the angels
at the time of death. They will wish to be so far
away from this, though they are the one who
initiated it by denying the truth. We ask Allah
( )ﷻto always grant us glad tidings. Ameen.
o A person just needs to believe and if he is not
truthful, then he will not have anything to
benefit.
FURQAN OF AYAH 22: FURQAN IS TO BE
TRUTHFUL, OTHERWISE A PERSON WILL
FACE THE EVIL CONSEQUENCE OF HIS LIES
MAY ALLAH MAKE US HUMBLE, ACCEPTING THE TRUTH AND
RECEIVING GLAD TIDINGS. AMEEN.

o In every ayah of Surah Al Furqan, we find
furqan (criterion) and distinguishment.
o Previously, we said how the disbelievers ask to
see Allah ( )ﷻin this life, though this is not
possible. And anyone who believes would not
ask such a thing.

AYAT 23 TO 24 – FURQAN BETWEEN EVIL
AND GOOD DOERS

ًَو َق ِد ْم َنا إ َلى َما َعم ُلوا م ْن َع َمل َف َج َع ْل َن ُاه َه َب ًاء َّم ُنثورا
ِ ِ ِ
And We will regard what they have done of
deeds and make them as dust dispersed.
24
ً َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ًّ َ َ ْ ُّ ْ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ
أصحاب الجن ِة يوم ِئذ خيرمستقرا وأحسن م ِقيل
The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in]
a better settlement and better resting place.
o We want all that we do in this life to be
accepted by Allah ( )ﷻbecause this life is the
life of work and the hereafter is the life of
recompense.
o Regardless of what kind of deeds the
disbelievers are doing, they are valueless due
to a great condition missing – and that is faith.

SURAH AL MAEDA 27
َ َّ ُ ْ َ ُ َّ ُ َّ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ
قال ِإنما يتقبل ّللا ِمن اَلت ِقين
"Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous
[who fear Him].
ً ُ َّ ً َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َْ ََ
o (( )وق ِدمنا ِإلى ما ع ِملوا ِمن عمل فجعلناه هباء منثوراAnd
We will regard what they have done of deeds
and make them as dust dispersed.): they are
working hard to perform deeds, but it must be
based on faith and not denial.
ً ُ َّ ً َ َ
o Their deeds will be ( – )هباء منثوراdispersed dust;
it will not be accepted and they will be
punished by it because it is based on denial of
Allah ( )ﷻand the messengers.
o Accepted deeds must be based on sincerity to
Allah ( )ﷻand following the Prophet ()ﷺ.
Therefore, we should not be deceived with the
outer, but to rectify our inner.

FURQAN OF AYAH 23: FURQAN IS ACTION
BASED ON BELIEF, AND NOT DEEDS
WITHOUT BELIEF
ً َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ًّ َ َ ْ ُّ ْ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ
o ()أصحاب الجن ِة يوم ِئذ خير مستقرا وأحسن م ِقيل (The
companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a
better settlement and better resting place.): in
this ayah with regards to the believers, it does
not mention their deeds, but Allah ( )ﷻgoes
beyond to tell us about their reward and state.
o Those who believed in all pillars of faith and
followed the Messenger ()ﷺ will be
companions of paradise.
o And there in paradise, they will be better
ًّ َ َ ْ ُّ ْ َ
settled ()خير مستقرا because real stability is in
paradise.

o In addition, paradise is ()وأحسن م ِقيل, the best
ً َ
place for resting. Even the word ( )م ِقيلcomes
from ( )قيلولةwhich is a nap.
o Surely there is no tiredness or fatigue is
paradise, but this rest is pure bliss. They
struggled in this life and worked against their
ego and trials, so they will rest in the hereafter.
There is no rest in the duniya, but real rest in
paradise.
FURQAN OF AYAH 24: FURQAN IS REAL
STABILITY AND REST IS IN PARADISE AND
NOT IN THIS LIFE
MAY ALLAH ACCEPT ALL OUR DEEDS AND GRANT US REAL
REST IN PARADISE. AMEEN.

SURAH AL FURQAN
o Surah Al Furqan is to distinguish between truth
and falsehood, and what is good and better.
o Previously, we mentioned how Allah ()ﷻ
distinguishes between the believers and
disbelievers in the Judgement Day.
o The disbelievers will see their deeds as
dispersed dust, while the believers will be
settled in paradise, safe and sound.

AYAT 25 TO 26 – GREAT SCENE OF THE
JUDGEMENT DAY

ً َ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َّ ُ َّ َ َ َ ْ َ َ
ويوم تشقق السماء ِبالغم ِام ون ِزل اَلل ِئكة ت ِنزيل
And [mention] the Day when the heaven will
split open with [emerging] clouds, and the
angels will be sent down in successive descent.

َ َ َ َ ْ َّ ُّ َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ
َ ان َي ْو ًما َع َلى ْال َكافر
ًين َع ِسيرا
ِِ اَللك يوم ِئذ الحق ِللرحمـ ِن ۚ وك
True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most
Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a
difficult Day.
o The Judgement Day is mentioned in Surah Al
Furqan in order to give more clarity to our
decisions, so that we make decisions based on
what will increase us in goodness.
َ َ ْ ُ َ َّ ُ َّ َ َ َ ْ َ َ
o (ام
ِ )ويوم تشقق السماء ِبالغم (And [mention] the
Day when the heaven will split open with
[emerging] clouds,): the sky will tear asunder

and split because Allah ( )ﷻnow permits it. Now
there are clouds between the heavens and
the earth for rain, but on the Judgement Day,
these clouds are not for rain. Allah ( )ﷻwill
descend from the above the heavens in a
manner that suits His majesty to the Land of
Gathering for the account. He cannot be seen
with the covering of the clouds. May Allah ()ﷻ
make our hearts to always magnify Him.
Ameen.
ً َ ُ َ ََ ْ َ ُ َ
o
ِ )ون ِزل اَلل ِئكة ت
(نزيل (and the angels will be sent
down in successive descent.): and there will be
something that will bring many angels down in
succession.
o Imagine the sky opens and there are clouds,
then the inhabitants of the sky will come down

from each sky on the Judgement Day. They will
be in rows after rows, surrounding all the
creation. Imagine this great and magnifying
scene – ()ال إله اال هللا. So why is this human arrogant
and not giving Allah ( )ﷻHis due value? And
that is ()ال إله اال هللا.
َ ْ َّ ُّ َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ ُْ ْ
o (ۚ ( )اَللك يوم ِئذ الحق ِللرحمـ ِنTrue sovereignty, that
Day, is for the Most Merciful.): in life, people
own, control and do whatever they choose on
this earth. People have properties, wealth,
positions, but on the Judgement Day, all
dominion belongs to Allah ()ﷻ.
o While in this life, we need to magnify Allah ()ﷻ,
as if we are living that Last Day.

o Allah is Al Malik – The Real King and Owner –
and on the Last Day, we will all be resurrected,
equal, as we came in this life.
o True kingship belongs to Allah Ar Rahman – The
Most Merciful. We have just been entrusted in
this life, but we are not real owners. And on the
Judgement Day, it will be shown to all that
Allah ( )ﷻis The True King.
o Allah connects His Name Ar Rahman (The Most
Merciful) to the Last Day so that we may have
hope. He is The King, but He is The Most Merciful
and His mercy reaches all and 99 parts of
mercy are preserved for the Last Day.
o Note, here is the first place in Surah Al Furqan
where find the Name of Allah “Ar Rahman” is
mentioned.

o Notice in the middle of fear, Allah is Ar
Rahman, and His mercy precedes His anger.
We ask Allah ( )ﷻto always have mercy on us.
Ameen.
ً َ َ َ ْ ََ ً ْ َ َ ََ
o (( )وكان يوما على الكا ِف ِرين ع ِسيراAnd it will be upon
the disbelievers a difficult Day.): however, the
one who denied The Most Merciful will be
deprived of His mercy. It will be very difficult for
the disbelievers on the Last Day because there
is no belief, thus no mercy can enter.
FURQAN OF AYAT 25 TO 26: FURQAN IS TO
LIVE LIFE AS IF SEEING THE LAST DAY .
FURQAN IS NOT TO JUST GIVE A RESULT,
BUT TO SEE GREAT SCENES LEADING UP TO
IT
MAY ALLAH HAVE MERCY ON US AND ADMIT US TO
PARADISE. AMEEN.

"الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased
with him) reported that the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه
)وسلمused to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-
huda wat- tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina (O Allah! I
ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-
sufficiency)".4

"I asked 'Aishah: 'With what did the Prophet ( صلى
)هللا عليه وسلمstart his prayer?' She said: 'When he
got up to pray at night he would start his prayer
with the words: Allahumma Rabba Jibril wa
Maika'il wa Israfil; Fatirus-samawati wal-ard, 'alim
al-ghaybi wash-shahadah, anta tahkumu
bayna 'ibadika fima kanu fihi yakhtalifun,
Allahumma ihdini limakktulifa fihi min al-haqq
innaka tahdi man tasha'ila siratin mustaqim (O
Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il and Israfil, Creator of
the heavens and the earth, Knower of the
unseen and the seen, You judge between Your
slaves concerning wherein they differ. O Allah,
guide me to the disputed matters of truth for

You are the One Who guides to the Straight

AYAT 27 TO 29 – REGRET FOR NOT

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his
hands [in regret] he will say, "Oh, I wish I had
taken with the Messenger a way.

يا ويلتى ليت ِني لم أت ِخذ فلنا خ ِليل
Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one
as a friend.

الذك ِربعد ِإذ جاء ِني ۗ وكان الشيطان ِل ِْلنس ِان

He led me away from the remembrance after it
had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a
deserter."
o Let us look at this scene on the Judgement
Day. It will be a time of great regret due to
making a bad decision and seeing the
negative consequence.
ْ َ َ َ َ ُ َّ ُّ َ َ َ ْ ََ
o ()ويوم يعض الظ ِالم على يدي ِه (And the Day the
wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret]):
when there is no furqan then a person will
exceed the boundaries and place things in the
wrong place. He will bite his hands which shows
absolute regret and humiliation. Normally, a
person bites his nails, but this action shows
extreme depression such that he is hurting
himself, subhan Allah.

o A person would not bite himself unless he is
emotionally tormented. What will he say?
ً َ ُ َّ َ َ ُ ْ َ َّ َ ْ َ َ ُ ُ َ
o ()يقول يا ليت ِني اتخذت مع الرسو ِل س ِبيل (he will say,
"Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a
way.): he will regret for not having taken the
guidance of the Prophet ()ﷺ.
o He will regret saying, “why is the messenger
human, eating and walking in the markets?”.
We need a human messenger to make it easy
for us, as someone accompanying us in life. Let
us take the example of influencers who are
constantly followed by followers because they
are approachable, showing every part of their
life – what they eat, where they go out, what
they do.
o We need to follow the guidance of the Prophet
( )ﷺand that is furqan.

FURQAN OF AYAH 27: FURQAN IS NOT TO
I S O L A T E T H E M E S S E N G E R ( )ﷺF R O M O U R
LIFE
ً َ ً َ ُ ْ َّ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ
o (( )يا ويلتى ليت ِني لم أت ِخذ فلنا خ ِليلOh, woe to me! I
wish I had not taken that one as a friend.): here
we find the reason for not taking the guidance
of the Prophet ()ﷺ. He will say, “woe to me”, he
ً َ
will wish he did not take so and so as ( – )خ ِليلa
close friend, to the extent he is “merged” into
his cells.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)
narrated that the Messenger of Allah ( )ﷺsaid:

"A man is upon the religion of his friend, so let
one of you look at whom he befriends."6
o If we have someone we love, we will do the
same like them without thinking.
o Though this person chose to accompany a
bad companion who disbelieved in Allah ()ﷻ.
A friend has a great influence on us; if they are
grateful we will be grateful; if they believe, we
will be believe and if they disbelieve, we will
disbelieve.
o A friend can help us to follow the Prophet (;)ﷺ
he will not distract us from following the
Prophet ( )ﷺand that is furqan.
o It does not mean we do not take friends and
only follow the Prophet ()ﷺ. Rather we take a
friend who helps us in tawheed and following

the Prophet ( )ﷺand that is truthfulness. It
makes us sincere in our worships.
o But this person did not take a good friend. We
ask Allah ( )ﷻto grant us good companions.
Ameen.
o We find the importance of taking good friends
in Surah Al Furqan as the Slaves of the Most
Merciful who supplicate to Allah ( )ﷻfor good
company.
SURAH AL FURQAN 74
َ َّ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ ْ َ َ َّ ُ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َو
اجنا وذ ِريا ِتنا قرة أعين واجعلنا ِللمت ِقين
ِ ربنا هب لنا ِمن أز
ِإ َم ًاما
And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from
among our wives and offspring comfort to our
eyes and make us an example for the
righteous."

FURQAN OF AYAH 28: FURQAN IS TO TAKE
A FRIEND WHO HELPS US IN FOLLOWING
T H E P R O P H E T ( )ﷺ
َ َ ْ َْ َ ْ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ َّ
o (ۗ الذك ِربعد ِإذ جاء ِني
ِ ( )لقد أضل ِني ع ِنHe led me away
from the remembrance after it had come to
me.): a reason for increasing faith and
guidance is to have a good friend, but this
friend misled him. He did not want him to
become Muslim, to pray, to seek knoweldge or
to read Qur’an. So the truth came to him, but
he was misled by his friend.
ً ُ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ
o (ان خذوّلِ ( )وكان الشيطان ِل ِْلنسAnd ever is Satan, to
man, a deserter."): in addition, the shaitan will
encourage a person to do bad and then he
will withdraw, leaving the person to face his sins
alone.

o The shaitan encouraged him to accompany a
bad friend and commit transgression.
o We should not allow the shaitan to
accompany us in our companionship with
others. We are responsible to close the gates to
the shaitan and nafs in order to preserve good
companionship and that is furqan.
FURQAN OF AYAH 29: FURQAN IS TO DRAW
A LINE AND NOT ALLOW THE SHAITAN OR
NAFS TO ENTER A GOOD COMPANIONSHIP
MAY ALLAH GRANT US GOOD COMPANIONS IN OUR WAY
TO HIM. AMEEN.

وحسن، اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك:كل صلة تقول
"عبادتك
The Messenger of Allah ( )صلى هللا عليه وسلمheld my
hand and said, "O Mu'adh, By Allah, I love you
and advise you not to miss supplicating after
every Salat (prayer) saying: 'Allahumma a'inni
'ala dhikrika wa shukrika, wa husni 'ibadatika,'
(O Allah, help me remember You, expressing
gratitude to You and worship You in the best
manner)".7

o It is important that we are constant in
remembering Allah ()ﷻ, and a good friend
reminds us of Who is Allah ()ﷻ, while the bad
friend will distract us from remembering Allah
()ﷻ. The good friend encourages us to follow
the Prophet ()ﷺ, unlike the bad friend.
SURAH AL FURQAN 74
َ َّ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ ْ َ َ َّ ُ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َو
اجنا وذ ِريا ِتنا قرة أعين واجعلنا ِللمت ِقين

And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from
among our wives and offspring comfort to our
eyes and make us an example for the
righteous."
o Furqan is when we remember Allah ( )ﷻand
follow the Prophet ()ﷺ.

QUR’AN

ًآن َم ْه ُجوراوقال الرسو يا ر ِب ِإن قو ِمي اتخذوا هـذا القر
And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord,
indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a
thing] abandoned."
31
ُ ْ َ ًّ ُ َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ َ
ًاْل ْجرم َين ۗ َو َك َفى ب َرب َك َهاديا
ِ ِ ِ ِِ وكذ ِلك جعلنا ِلك ِل ن ِبي عدوا ِمن
َ
َون ِص ًيرا
And thus have We made for every prophet an
enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient
is your Lord as a guide and a helper.
ً ُ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ ُ َ َّ ْ َ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َّ ُ ُل
o ()وقال الرسو يا ر ِب ِإن قو ِمي اتخذوا هـذا القرآن مهجورا
(And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord,
indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a
thing] abandoned."): the Prophet ( )ﷺwill say
this on the Judgement Day. What prevented
the disbelievers from taking the Qur’an and

good companions? They looked down upon
the Prophet ()ﷺ, so if they look down upon him,
they will surely look down on anything he
brings.
o Look at the dignified manner of the Prophet
( )ﷺwithout even saying, “my people did not
listen to me”, but said, “my people left the
Qur’an”, subhan Allah. It truly shows
selflessness.
o For him is not about not being followed, but he
has great feelings towards Allah ( )ﷻand His
Words. It is not about what people did to us, or
taking revenge from the people, but our
feelings need to be for the religion of Allah ()ﷻ
and the Qur’an.

o The people greatly disrespected the Prophet
()ﷺ, but he did not complain about what is
being done to him, but their abandoning and
forsaking of the Qur’an.
o The Qur’an is our furqan, cure, clarity and life.
We need to love and respect the Qur’an
because it is the Word of Allah. We need to
follow the guidance in it and have great
feelings for it because it is the attribute of Allah
()ﷻ.
Different forms of abandoning the Qur’an:
1. Leaving the recitation of the Qur’an and not
being consistent with it
2. Leaving pondering the Qur’an and not getting
its treasures
3. Leaving acting on the Qur’an.
4. Leaving taking it as a judge.

o This is a warning for all to not leave the Qur’an.
May Allah ( )ﷻgrant everyone a share in the
Qur’an. The month of Ramadan is the month of
the Qur’an. May Allah ( )ﷻmake us from the
people of the Qur’an. Ameen.
FURQAN OF AYAH 30: FURQAN IS TO TAKE
THE QUR’AN AND NOT ABDANDON IT
َ ْ ُ ْ َ ًّ ُ َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ َ
o (ۗ )وكذ ِلك جعلنا ِلك ِل ن ِبي عدوا ِمن اْلج ِر ِمين (And thus
have We made for every prophet an enemy
from among the criminals.): here we find how
Allah ( )ﷻgives console to the Prophet ()ﷺ.
Allah ( )ﷻknows what the people are doing to
Him; He is All-Aware and All-Knower of what is
apparent and concealed.

o All the prophets and messengers, and not just
the Prophet ()ﷺ, had enemies from the
criminals. However, with the presence of
enemies, there is more furqan. Unlike having
everything subjected and serving us.
o We think it is a great support to have everyone
in line with us, but furqan is apparent through
the enemies.
o Allah ( )ﷻindirectly uses the enemies as a great
support for the messengers in order to have
more clarity and confidence. The actions of
Allah ( )ﷻbecome more apparent when there
are enemies and how He deals with the
messengers and enemies. But what does the
Prophet ( )ﷺhave to do when facing their
enmity?

ََ ً َ َ َََ
ً ( )وكفى ب َربك ه ِاديا ون ِصBut sufficient is your Lord
o (يرا ِ ِ
as a guide and a helper.): your Lord is Sufficient
to guide you to the best feelings and words. It
is not easy to react correctly when facing
enemies because a person can easily exceed
his boundaries.
o We do not want furqan by making separation,
but to know that Allah ( )ﷻis enough for us.
o But when we complain about others and put
others down, then we will not get anything.
Allah ( )ﷻis sufficient to guide us and make us
tranquil when facing enemies and He is
sufficient for us to grant us victory over our nafs
in order to be tolerant, more patient and
grateful in these situations.

ِلنث ِبت ِب ِه فؤادك ۖ ورتلناه ترِتيل
And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the
Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it
is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart.
And We have spaced it distinctly.
33
ًاك ب ْال َحق َو َأ ْح َس َن َت ْف ِسيرا َ َُْ ََ
َ ون َك ب َم َثل إ َّّل ج ْئ َن وّل يأت
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ

And they do not come to you with an argument
except that We bring you the truth and the best
explanation.

o (ۚ احدة
ِ علي ِه القرآن جملة و ين كف ُروا ل ْوّل ن ِز َل)وقال ال ِذ
(And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the
Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?"):
again the disbelievers speak and say why has
the Qur’an not been revealed at once like the
previous books. However, they do not see the
advantage of it being revealed in parts.
ً ْ َ ُ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ُ َ َ َ
o (( )كذ ِلك ِلنث ِبت ِب ِه فؤادك ۖ ورتلناه ترِتيلThus [it is] that
We may strengthen thereby your heart. And
We have spaced it distinctly.): here we see the
quick response from Allah ( )ﷻthat the Qur’an
is revealed in parts in order for the heart of the
Prophet ( )ﷺis strengthened by it. And then he
can gradually take it in.

o Allah ( )ﷻis able to bring down the Qur’an in
one time, but we are in need of constant
reminders.
ً ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ َ ُ ْ َ َ َ
o (( )وّل يأتونك ِبمثل ِإّل ِجئناك ِبالح ِق وأحسن تف ِسيراAnd
they do not come to you with an argument
except that We bring you the truth and the
best explanation.): the disbelievers want to
distract others from the Prophet ()ﷺ, so they will
bring up examples, but Allah ( )ﷻreveals the
Qur’an in truth and explanation.
o Everything in the Qur’an considers all angles
and is clear, unlike the examples and
arguments brought up by the disbelievers.

Hell - those are the worst in position and farthest

And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture
and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an
assistant.
36
ُ ين َك َّذ ُبوا ب َآيات َنا َف َد َّم ْرَن
ًاه ْم َت ْد ِميرا َ َف ُق ْل َنا ْاذ َه َبا إ َلى ْال َق ْوم َّالذ
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ
And We said, "Go both of you to the people
who have denied Our signs." Then We
destroyed them with [complete] destruction.
o The more there is disbelief, the more there is
furqan. And now we will see the recompense
of the disbelievers in the future – the
Judgement Day, and how it is joined to what
happened to the previous nation of Firaoun
who belied the Messenger Musa (peace be
upon him).
o The more one has furqan, the more one can
warn the people, and that is the case of the
Prophet ( )ﷺwho was nurtured to have furqan
so he may warn the worlds.

َ(ين ُي ْح َش ُرو َن َع َلى ُو ُجوهه ْم إ َلى َج َه َّنم
َ ( ) َّالذThe ones who
o
ِ ِِ ِ
are gathered on their faces to Hell -): this is the
state of those who disbelieved in the Prophet
()ﷺ. Anyone who disbelieves in the Prophet
()ﷺ, then it is as if he has disbelieved in Allah ()ﷻ
and the Last Day.
o In Surah Al Furqan, the disbelievers do not have
a problem with the perfection of Allah ()ﷻ, but
why is it Mohammed ( )ﷺa Messener? Subhan
Allah. And this is due to their ego and
arrogance. So what will happen to them on the
Judgement Day?
o They will be gathered and dragged on their
faces to the fire. In this life they were all over
the place, but on the Judgement Day, they will
be gathered on their faces out of humiliation.

And just as the One Who is able to make them
walk on their feet, He is able to make them
walk on their faces. Their faces were up due to
their arrogance, but on the Judgement Day it
will be down.
SURAH AL MULK 22
َ َ ًّ َ ْ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ًّ ُ ْ َ َ ََ
أفمن يم ِش ي م ِكبا على وج ِه ِه أهدى أمن يم ِش ي س ِويا على
َ
ِص َراط ُّم ْست ِقيم
Then is one who walks fallen on his face better
guided or one who walks erect on a straight
path?
ً َ ُّ َ َ َ ً َ َّ َ َ َ ُ
o (( )أولـ ِئك شرمكانا وأضل س ِبيلthose are the worst in
position and farthest astray in [their] way.):
these people are in the most evil position and
place due to their disbelief in Allah and the
Prophet ()ﷺ. Unlike those who believed in Allah
( )ﷻand the Prophet ( )ﷺwho will be in the best

place and position. May Allah ( )ﷻmake us
among them. Ameen.
ً َ ُّ َ َ َ
o In addition, Allah ( )ﷻsays (– )وأضل س ِبيل they
are the most misguided in their path. May Allah
( )ﷻmake us most guided in our path. Ameen.
FURQAN OF AYAH 34: FURQAN IS TO
F O L L O W T H E P R O P H E T ( )ﷺI N O R D E R T O
REACH THE BEST PLACE BY FOLLOWING HIS
GUIDANCE
o Then we transition to Musa (peace be upon
him). We find great similarities between the
lives of Musa (peace be upon him) and the
Mohammed ( )ﷺand similarities to the people
they were sent to, Firaoun and Quraish who
were both very arrogant.

ً َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ُ َ ُو
o ()ولقد آتينا موس ى ال ِكتاب وجعلنا معه أخاه هار ن و ِزيرا
(And We had certainly given Moses the
Scripture and appointed with him his brother
Aaron as an assistant.): Allah ( )ﷻgranted Musa
(peace be upon him) the Torah, so it is furqan
to have a book. In addition, Allah ( )ﷻmade his
brother Haroon (peace be upon him) as an
assistant for him, so is furqan to have
assistance. Allah ( )ﷻdid not make Musa
(peace be upon him) to face Firaoun on his
own because it is not easy.
o And the Prophet ( )ﷺwill have the support of
Allah ( )ﷻbecause he is Khalil Allah and he will
have the close companionship of Abu Bakr
(may Allah be pleased with him).

FURQAN OF AYAH 35: FURQAN IS TO HAVE
A BOOK AND ASSISTANCE
ً ْ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ َ ُ َّ َ َ َّ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ
o ()فقلنا اذهبا ِإلى القو ِم ال ِذين كذبوا ِبآيا ِتنا فدمرناهم تد ِميرا
(And We said, "Go both of you to the people

when people associate with Allah ()ﷻ, He will
send a messenger with a book. And in the case
of Firaoun who called to his worship, Allah ()ﷻ
sent Musa (peace be upon him) and Haroon
(peace be upon him) to show him the signs of
Allah ()ﷻ, but Firaoun denied and faced
destruction.
FURQAN OF AYAH 36: FURQAN IS TO SEND
GUIDANCE WHEN THERE IS SHIRK
MAY ALLAH MAKE US AMONG THOSE WHO TRULY BELIEVE

'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased
with him) reported that the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه
)وسلمused to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-
huda wat- tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina (O Allah! I
ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-
sufficiency)".

o Now we will look at what happened to the
previous nations in order to take heed and not
repeat their same denial of the messengers
and resurrections. This is furqan for Quraish and
furqan for us. Allah ( )ﷻbrought clear evidence
to all the previous nations.

َّ ْ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ُ ُّ
َ َ ْ ُ َّ َ َّ َّ ُ َ ْ َ َ
ۖ اس آية
ِ وقوم نوح َلا كذ َبوا الرسل أغرقناهم و َجعلناهم ِللن
ًاَل َين َع َذ ًابا أ ِليما َّ َ ْ َ ْ َ
ِ ِ وأعتدنا ِللظ
And the people of Noah - when they denied
the messengers, We drowned them, and We
made them for mankind a sign. And We have
prepared for the wrongdoers a painful
punishment.
38 َ
ًالرس َو ُق ُرو ًنا َب ْي َن َذ ِل َك َك ِثيرا َ ص َح
َّ اب َ َو َع ًادا َو َث ُم
ْ ود َوأ
ِ
And [We destroyed] 'Aad and Thamud and the
companions of the well and many generations
between them.

ًال ۖ َو ُك ًّل َت َّب ْرَنا َت ْتبيرا

And for each We presented examples [as
warnings], and each We destroyed with [total]
destruction.
َ 40 ُ َ
ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َّ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
ولقد أتوا على القري ِة ال ِتي أم ِطرت مطرالسو ِء ۚ أفلم يكونوا
ًَي َر ْو َن َها ۚ َب ْل َك ُانوا َّل َي ْر ُجو َن ُن ُشورا
And they have already come upon the town
which was showered with a rain of evil. So have
they not seen it? But they are not expecting
resurrection.
o
ُّ ( ) َو َق ْو َم ُنوح ََّلَّا َك َّذ ُبواAnd the people of Noah
َ(الر ُسل
- when they denied the messengers,): the
nation of Nuh (peace be upon him) is
mentioned first because he is the first
Messenger, which was also known to Quraish.
They have one messenger, but Allah ( )ﷻsays
they denied (الرس َل
ُ
ُّ ) – the messengers –
because to disbelieve in one is to disbelieve in

all. And they are the first to initiate disbelief in
the messengers. May Allah ( )ﷻprotect us from
being initiators of evil. Ameen.

ِ ( )أغرقناهم وجعلناهم ِللنWe drowned them,
and We made them for mankind a sign.): their
destruction was drowning and Allah ( )ﷻmade
it an ayah – evidence for all to not repeat what
they did.
ً َ ً َ َ َ َّ َْ َْ ََ
o (اَلين عذابا أ ِليما
ِ ِ )وأعتدنا ِللظ (And We have
prepared for the wrongdoers a painful
punishment.): in addition, they are the first to
initiate the shirk of worshipping the righteous
and that is “dhulm” – putting things in the
wrong place. The righteous cannot be placed
in the position of worship – the position of
worship is only for Allah ()ﷻ.

o As a result, they will have a painful torment in
the hereafter. And this is a reminder to Quraish
who is committing shirk as the people of Nuh
(peace be upon him), so beware and take
heed.
َّ َ َ ْ ََ َ ُ ََ ً َ َ
o (س
ِ ( )وعادا وثمود وأصحاب الرAnd [We destroyed]
'Aad and Thamud and the companions of the
well): ‘Aad and Thamud are two Arab tribes
known to Quraish. Hud (peace be upon him)
was sent to ‘Aad, but they belied their
messenger and a violent wind destroyed them.
o Salih (peace be upon him) was sent to Thamud
who were very intelligent and rebellious. They
asked for the she-camel, but they killed it, and
were destroyed with an awful cry for three
days.

o The third group which was unknown to Quraish
َّ َ َ ْ ََ
called (س
ِ – )وأصحاب الرcompanions of the tree.
Their story is not as well-known as ‘Aad and
Thamud, but they also belied their messenger
and were destroyed.
ً َ َ َ َ َْ ً ُ ُ َ
o ()وقرونا بين ذ ِلك ك ِثيرا (and many generations
between them.): and there are many nations
who did the same of belying the messenger
and being destroyed.
o The point is not to know all the names of the
previous nations, but to see what was
committed and not repeat the same.
ً ْ َ َ ْ َّ َ ًّ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ ًّ ُ َ
o (( )وكل ضربنا له اْلمثال ۖ وكل تبرنا تت ِبيراAnd for each
We presented examples [as warnings], and
each We destroyed with [total] destruction.): a
common factor between all previous nations is

complete destruction and elimination of these
nations. There is no group that remained from
them – they are all gone and perished.
o They committed the same crime and all
punished with no traces. This is a warning for
Quraish to believe and not follow their
footsteps.
ْ َّ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َّ
(ۚ ال ِتي أم ِطرت مطر السو ِء
َ) َو َل َق ْد َأ َت ْوا َع َلى ْال َق ْرية
o ِ (And
they have already come upon the town which
was showered with a rain of evil.): the people
of Lut (peace be upon him) were known to
Quraish since they passed by their lands during
their journeys to Ash Sham. The people of Lut
were destroyed with rains of stones and
Quraish knew this, but did not take heed or
benefit.

َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ ُ َ َ ْو
o (ۚ )أفلم يكونوا ير نها (So have they not seen it?):
there cannot be a greater furqan than to pass
by these nations and see it with their own eyes.
ً ُ ُ َ ْ َ ُ َ َ ْ ُ َن
o ()بل كانوا ّل يرجو نشورا (But they are not
expecting resurrection.): they have lost hope in
ever being resurrected, we ask Allah for the
well-being. Ameen.
o Belief in the resurrection helps a person to take
heed of warnings and to reform himself. The
resurrection takes place after the second
blowing of the trumpet and the bodies will be
recreated and united with its soul.
FURQAN OF AYAT 37 TO 40: FURQAN IS TO
TAKE THE ADMONITION – TO BELIEVE IN
ALLAH, THE MESSENGERS AND
RESURRECTION

AYAT 41 TO 42 – BLINDNESS OF THE
DISBELIEVERS
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto make us see truth as truth
and to follow it and to see falsehood as
falsehood and to stay away from it.
o Now we will see what the disbelievers “see and
say.”
ً ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ 41ً ُ ُ َّ َ َ ُ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ
و ِإذا رأوك ِإن يت ِخذونك ِإّل هزوا أهـذا ال ِذي بعث ّللا رسوّل
And when they see you, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ,
they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is

this the one whom Allah has sent as a
messenger?
42َ
َ ُ َْ َ َ ْ َ َ ََْ َ َْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ُّ ُ َ َ َ
ِإن كاد لي ِضلنا عن ِآله ِتنا لوّل أن صبرنا عليها ۚ وسوف يعلمون
ً َ ُّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
ِحين يرون العذاب من أضل س ِبيل
He almost would have misled us from our gods
had we not been steadfast in [worship of]
them." But they are going to know, when they
see the punishment, who is farthest astray in [his]
way.
ً ُ ُ َّ َ َ ُ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ
(( )وإذا رأوك ِإن يت ِخذونك ِإّل هزواAnd when they see
o
ِ
you, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ, they take you not
except in ridicule,): when the disbelievers see
the Prophet ()ﷺ, out of their rebellion and
arrogance, they only mock him. Though the
believer longs to see the Prophet ( )ﷺin
paradise and anyone who sees him, loves him.
He has the most beautiful face and disposition.

o But due to their lack of respect towards him,
they mock him, how?
ً ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ
o ([( )أهـذا ال ِذي بعث ّللا رسوّلsaying], "Is this the one
whom Allah has sent as a messenger?): is he
the one sent as a messenger? Yes because the
messenger is sent as a test for the people, to
bring out their reality. He will go against their
desires in order to be humbled. What else do
they say?
َ َ ْ َ َ ُّ ُ َ َ َ
o (ضلنا عن ِآله ِتنا
ِ ) ِإن كاد لي (He almost would have
misled us from our gods): that he is close to
misleading them from their gods, subhan Allah.
Though he is sent to guide the people because
he has the truth of tawheed and following the
messenger. However, they do not want it.

َ ْ َ َ َْ َ َ َ َْ َ
o (ۚ ( )لوّل أن صبرنا عليهاhad we not been steadfast
in [worship of] them."): they are further
deceived to say, “had we not been patient on
our gods, the Prophet ( )ﷺwould have misled
us”, subhan Allah.
o Patience is a praiseworthy virtue, but to be
patient on falsehood, misguidance and shirk is
dispraised.
ً َ ُّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ
o (( )وسوف يعلمون ِحين يرون العذاب من أضل س ِبيلBut
they are going to know, when they see the
punishment, who is farthest astray in [his] way.):
when they see the punishment, then they will
know who is truly misguided – themselves and
not the Prophet ()ﷺ.

AYAT 43 TO 44 – WORST MISGUIDANCE
o The Qur’an is the Word of Allah, revealed on
the Prophet ( )ﷺthrough Jibreel (peace be
upon him). It is revealed in parts according to
situations and this is a reason for furqan –
criterion. And then it will be a warning so that
one changes.
o The disbelievers do not leave mocking and
ridiculing the Messenger ( )ﷺbecause to target
the messenger is to target the entire religion.

o And now we will find one of the greatest
reasons for misguidance, may Allah ( )ﷻprotect
us. Ameen.
ً َ ْ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ َ 43
ُ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ
أرأيت م ِن اتخذ ِإلـهه هواه أفأنت تكون علي ِه و ِكيل
Have you seen the one who takes as his god his
own desire? Then would you be responsible for
him?
َ 44
َ َ َ َ
َ ْ ْ َ َّ ْ ُ ْ َ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ َ ْ َّ ُ َ ْ َ ْ
ۖ أم تحسب أن أكثرهم يسمعون أو يع ِقلون ۚ ِإن هم ِإّل كاْلنع ِام
ً َ ُّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ
بل هم أضل س ِبيل
Or do you think that most of them hear or
reason? They are not except like livestock.
Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their]
way.
َ َْ ََ
o (( )أرأيتHave you seen): Allah ( )ﷻcommands
the Prophet ( )ﷺto see with the eyes of his
heart, with the eyes of faith. What should he
see?

ُ(( ) َمن َّات َخ َذ إ َلـ َه ُه َه َواهthe one who takes as his god
o
ِ ِ
his own desire?): have you seen the one who
takes his desires as his god. Their misbehavior
and mockery are a result of worshipping their
desires. We ask Allah ( )ﷻfor the well-being.
Ameen.
o To control desires requires:
1. A mind: to control it from indulging in
desires
2. The scale of legislation which is the
Qur’an and Sunnah
o If his desire is to shout, he will should, if his desire
is to backbite, he will backbite, if his desire is to
plot, he will plot. We have desires, but we must
have control.

o Desires are unstable and that is why the
disbelievers constantly come up with
something different.
ً َ ََْ ُ ُ َ َ ََ َ
o ()أفأنت تكون علي ِه و ِكيل (Then would you be
responsible for him?): surely a person cannot
be responsible for someone under the control
of his desires.
o The role of the messengers is simply to convey
the message, but they cannot force the
people. We ask Allah to grant us taqwa so that
we do not become a slave to our desires.
َ ُ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ُ َ ْ َ ْ َ
o (ۚ ( )أم تحسب أن أكثرهم يسمعون أو يع ِقلونOr do you
think that most of them hear or reason?): Allah
( )ﷻaddresses the Prophet ()ﷺ, “do you think
they can hear or reason if they follow their
desires?”

o Desires are like a flood with no boundaries, and
this shows if someone hears and understands
then he has taqwa
َ ْ َ ْ َ َّ ْ ُ ْ
o (ۖ ام
ِ ) ِإن هم ِإّل كاْلنع (They are not except like
livestock.): Allah ( )ﷻgives the example that
they are like cattle, if not more astray. Cattle
do not understand and just follow their desires.
ً َ ُّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ
o (( )بل هم أضل س ِبيلRather, they are [even] more
astray in [their] way.): But Allah ( )ﷻsays they
are more astray than cattle because at least
cattle follow a shepherd, but they do not follow
the messenger.
o These ayat are console to the Prophet ( )ﷺto
show that he cannot guide all people because
there are those who are under the control of

their desires, so they become more astray than
cattle.
FURQAN OF AYAT 43 TO 44: FURQAN IS TO
HAVE TAQWA SO ONE CAN HEAR AND
UNDERSTAND AND FURQAN IS NOT
EVERYONE WILL UNDERSTAND AND TAKE
THE GUIDANCE

AYAT 45 TO 47 – GENTLE AND SUBTLE
ACTIONS IN THE UNIVERSE
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto make us see truth as truth
and to follow it and to see falsehood as
falsehood and to stay away from it.
o Surah Al Furqan teaches us to be a slave who
does not follow one’s desires. A person stops
himself from saying or doing anything
displeasing to Allah ()ﷻ, even if it is something
bothering him inside.

o When looking at the universe, a person can
also find furqan, even with small details. But the
one who follows desires cannot even see the
furqan with great actions.
َْ َ َ َّ ُ ً َ ُ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ 45 َ َ َّ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ََ
الظل ولو شاء لجعله س ِاكنا ثم جعلنا ِ ألم تر ِإلى رِبك كيف مد
ً َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َّ
الشمس علي ِه د ِليل
Have you not considered your Lord - how He
extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could
have made it stationary? Then We made the
sun for it an indication.
46
ً ض َن ُاه إ َل ْي َنا َق ْب
ًضا َي ِسيرا ْ ُث َّم َق َب
ِ
Then We hold it in hand for a brief grasp.
47
َّ َ ً َ َ ْ َّ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ
َّ الن ْو َم ُس َب ًاتا َو َج َع َل
َالن َهار َّ َ ُ َ
وهو ال ِذي جعل لكم الليل ِلباسا و
ًُن ُشورا
And it is He who has made the night for you as
clothing and sleep [a means for] rest and has
made the day a resurrection.

o Those with furqan are constantly observant
and these ayat are specifically nurturing for the
Prophet ()ﷺ.
َ َ َ َ َ ْ ََ
o ()ألم تر ِإلى رِبك (Have you not considered your
Lord -): do you not see O Mohammed ( )ﷺwith
the eyes of your heart and with the eyes of
faith, the actions of your Rabb? Thus these
actions are all nurturing for you. What should he
consider?
َّ(الظل َ َْ
َّف َمد
o ِ )كي (how He extends the shadow,):
look at how your Lord extends the shadow so a
person does not feel the heat of the sun. And
similarly, in tranquil, beautiful times like the fajr
before the sunrise and after the sunset. These
are quiet moments which everyone needs.

o And this action of stretching the shadow is the
action of Allah ()ﷻ, but it will not always remain
like this.
ً َ ُ ََ َ َ َ َ ْ ََ
o (اكنا
ِ ( )ولو شاء لجعله سand if He willed, He could
have made it stationary?): had Allah ( )ﷻwilled,
the shadow would be still so it is always there,
but there is the sun, there are challenges, trials
and heat. And this is from the way of Allah. The
test of truthfulness appears with opposites,
even if there is “sun”, we must always seek the
shade – the shade of faith, tawheed and
obedience.
ً َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َّ َ ْ َ َ َّ ُ
o ()ثم جعلنا الشمس علي ِه د ِليل (Then We made the
sun for it an indication.): when the sun starts to
move, then the shadow extends or reduces.
Thus the nurturing of Allah ( )ﷻis constant and

variable. And with opposites we appreciate
the shade when there is sun.
o The sun is evidence of the shadow, and
similarly with trying tests, the shadow of faith
appears.
ً َ ً ْ َ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َّ ُ
o ()ثم قبضناه ِإلينا قبضا ي ِسيرا (Then We hold it in
hand for a brief grasp.): as the sun reaches a
peak, the shadow will be withheld and
become less briefly. It does not go from one
extreme of complete shadow to no shadow,
but it is gradual. And this is the action of Allah
( )ﷻindicating He is in control.
o If there is no disbelief, we will not know belief. If
there is no evil, we will not know good.

FURQAN OF AYAT 45 TO 46: FURQAN IS
WITH OPPOSITES TO BRING OUT
TRUTHFULNESS
ً َ َ ْ َّ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ
o (( )وهوال ِذي جعل لكم الليل ِلباساAnd it is He who has
made the night for you as clothing): Allah ()ﷻ
made the night, a time of darkness, to cover
us, just like garments. So the night time is a time
to rest. And similarly, when there is a “night
phase” in our life, we should take it as rest, and
just cover.
ً َ ُ َ ْ َّ َ
o (( )والنوم سباتاand sleep [a means for] rest): and
sleep is to cut-off from work and rest. And
similarly, in times of stress, we need to eat, drink
and look at what brings coolness to our eyes.
ً ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ َ َ َ
o ()وجعل النهار نشورا (and has made the day a
resurrection.): however, when the day is

flowing, then a person needs to be active and
go forward, and this is similar to the
resurrection.
o From these ayat, we see how the nurturing of
Allah ( )ﷻis subtle and gradual, just as the
transition of the night and day are gradual.
FURQAN OF AYAH 47: FURQAN IS TO HAVE
BALANCE

o When there is furqan, criterion, then it gives
value to everything. Now we appreciate the
shadow just as we appreciate the sun, and we
appreciate the night just as we appreciate the
day.
o Furqan is not about just taking what people say
and trying to defend oneself because then it
reaches a limit with the disbelievers. So Allah
( )ﷻshows the Prophet ( )ﷺthe nurturing on him

and that is to reflect on the universal signs as
well.

ْ َ َو ُه َو َّالذي َأ ْر َس َل الرَي
َاح ُب ْش ًرا َب ْين َي َد ْي َر ْح َمته ۚ َو أ َنزلنا من

ِ ِِ ِ ِ
ًالس َم ِاء َم ًاء َط ُهوراَّ
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings
before His mercy, and We send down from the
sky pure water
َ َ 49
ًِل ُن ْحي َي ب ِه َب ْل َد ًة َّم ْي ًتا َو ُن ْس ِق َي ُه ِم َّما َخ َل ْق َنا أ ْن َع ًاما َو أ َن ِاس َّي َك ِثيرا
ِ ِ
That We may bring to life thereby a dead land
and give it as drink to those We created of
numerous livestock and men.
َ َ 50َّ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ ُ ْ َ َّ َّ ُ و
ًالناس إ َّّل ُك ُفورا
ِ ِ ولقد صرفناه بينهم ِليذكر ا فأبى أكثر
And We have certainly distributed it among
them that they might be reminded, but most of
the people refuse except disbelief.
َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ ً ْ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ ُ َ
o (ۚ الرياح بشرا بين يدي رحم ِت ِه ِ ( )وهو ال ِذي أرسلAnd it is
He who sends the winds as good tidings before

His mercy,): Allah ( )ﷻis The One Who sends
wind – there is both beneficial and destructive
wind – but in this ayah, it is about beneficial
wind.
o Before Allah ( )ﷻdrives a great blessing to us, He
sends “wind” – glad tidings – as preparation to
receive this great blessing. We ask Allah of His
favor.
o The wind is a sign before the rain which makes
people happy and anticipating the bountiful
rain. Before the messenger is sent with a
message, there is preparation and glad tidings
before it.
o If there is no wind then there is no rain, and so
when there is wind, it motivates us and excites
us for coming rain.

o Similarly, the clouds are heavy, but it needs
wind to relieve them. Sometimes we can have
heaviness in our heart, but then Allah ( )ﷻsends
wind to relieve it.
o The mercy of Allah ( )ﷻis great and mercy can
include the opening of a good deed, solving a
problem, special provision and so forth.
ً ُ َ ً َ َ َّ َ َ ْ َ َ َ
o (اء ماء طهوراِ ( )و أنزلنا ِمن السمand We send down
from the sky pure water): when the “heart” is
ready, Allah ( )ﷻwill bring down pure and
purifying water. So there is no mixture and at
the same time, it will cleanse and purify our
heart.
o This is a complete cycle of feelings before
beautiful things arrive. Allah ()ﷻ sends

messengers and glad tidings because He
wants to nourish the hearts.
ً ْ َّ ً َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ
o () ِلنح ِيي ِب ِه بلدة ميتا (That We may bring to life
thereby a dead land): this pure and purifying
water will give life to the dead lands, so we
should never give up with dead hearts
because people need time.
o Sometimes we find some talent, some worship
or some feeling that is gone or empty, but Allah
( )ﷻis able to bring life with revelation from the
Qur’an and Sunnah.
ً َ َّ َ َ َ ً َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َّ ُ َ ْ ُ َ
o (اس ي ك ِثيرا
ِ ( )ونس ِقيه ِمما خلقنا أنعاما و أنand give it as
drink to those We created of numerous
livestock and men.): and not only humans will
benefit, but even animals will benefit from the
pure water.

ُ َّ َّ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َّ َ ْ َ َ َ
o (( )ولقد صرفناه بينهم ِليذكرواAnd We have certainly
distributed it among them that they might be
reminded,): however, this water will not be
distributed evenly between all – some will get
more and some will get less – based on the
perfect wisdom of Allah.
o And similarly, the Prophet ( )ﷺis just a
messenger like the wind, but it is Allah ( )ﷻWho
brings down the rain and gives life. So he just
conveys, but everything is in the Hands of Allah
()ﷻ.
o When we see the “rain” being distributed
differently, it is to make us remember Allah ()ﷻ.
ً ُ ُ َّ َّ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ
o (اس ِإّل كفورا
ِ ( )فأبى أكثر النbut most of the people
refuse except disbelief.): we can feel jealous
while being in the same place and getting

different from others, but we should be grateful
for what we have; however, most people are
ungrateful and complaining.
o People do not see the actions of Allah ()ﷻ, but
look at the distribution. We should look at the
journey and that is to know Who is Allah ()ﷻ.
FURQAN OF AYAT 48 TO 50: FURQAN IS TO
REMEMBER ALLAH WHEN WE SEE
DIFFERENT DISTRIBUTION AND THEN BE
GRATEFUL TO HIM
MAY ALLAH MAKE US FROM THE GRATEFUL ONES. AMEEN.

INTRODUCTION
o We ask Allah Al ‘Afuw to pardon us and from
His pardoning we have a complete dua to
invoke Him in the last ten nights – O Allah You
are All-Pardoning, you love pardoning, so
pardon us.
SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 51 TO 52 – ONE MESSENGER ONE
QUR’AN
o Allah ( )ﷻbrings the rain down and He
distributes it accordingly. And similarly, the

Qur’an is revealed in parts but the Messenger
( )ﷺis one.
51
ًَو َل ْو ِش ْئ َنا َل َب َع ْث َنا في كل ق ْرَية ن ِذيرا
َّ َ ُ
ِ ِ
And if We had willed, We could have sent into
every city a warner.
52
ًاه ْد ُهم ب ِه ج َه ًادا َكبيرا َ َف َل ُتطع ْال َكافر
َين َوج
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ِِ
So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive
against them with the Qur'an a great striving.
ً َّ َ ْ َ ُ ََْ ََ َْ ْ ََ
o ()ولو ِشئنا لبعثنا ِفي ك ِل قرية ن ِذيرا (And if We had
willed, We could have sent into every city a
warner.): Allah ( )ﷻis able to send a different
warner to every land, but that is not furqan.
Furqan is one messenger and warner to all the
worlds – to mankind and jinn. He is not sent for
only Arabs, but for all people. He is to unite all,
though they are different.

بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم
َ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َّ َ َّ َ َ َ َ
ًاَل َين َن ِذيرا
ِ تبارك ال ِذي نزل الفرقان على عب ِد ِه ِليكون ِللع
Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon
His Servant that he may be to the worlds a
warner -
َ() َف َل ُتطع ْال َكافرين
o
ِِ ِِ (So do not obey the
disbelievers,): it will be divided if every land
wants its own messenger to only match their
culture or mentality, and that is not furqan.
Furqan is to have the Messenger ( )ﷺsent to all,
but not to follow the desires of people, but the
revelation of Allah ()ﷻ.
o Therefore, Allah ( )ﷻtells the Prophet ( )ﷺto not
obey the disbelievers because he believes and
would not suit. Allah ( )ﷻcommands him to be
firm.

ً اهدهم ب ِه ج َهادا كب
o (يرا ِ ِ ِ ِ ( )وجand strive against them
with the Qur'an a great striving.): and he is to
struggle with them with the Qur’an and not
weapons. Everyone has a different mentality
and idea, but the Qur’an is clear criterion.
o There are different types of disbelief, but what
can be used to struggle with all –the Qur’an.
o It is a great struggle and one must be wise and
intelligent with the evidence of the Qur’an.
o The Qur’an is not man-made, but it is the Word
of Allah. The Qur’an is revealed in parts
according to His will, but the messenger one.
o One must struggle with principles, but to
remain firm. The Prophet ( )ﷺis one but he can
face all because he has the Qur’an.

INTRODUCTION
o We can truly see how the Qur’an is more
guidance and furqan in Ramadan. We need a
great amount of purification before going to
the Qur’an.
o Furqan is not to mix truth with falsehood. Also
when reflecting on the universal signs, we can
make us see more of Allah’s nurturing because
they are obedient. Unlike looking at people’s
actions since it can be mixed with desires.

SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 53 TO 54 – BARRIER BETWEEN
DIFFERENT NATURES
o The Prophet ( )ﷺis sent by Allah ( )ﷻas mercy for
all the worlds. He will face different types of
people, but must struggle with them with the
Qur’an. And now we will find beautiful actions
of Allah ( )ﷻto show more of His Oneness.
َُ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ ْ َ 53َ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ
وهو ال ِذي مرج البحري ِن هـذا عذب فرات وهـذا ِملح أجاج
ًَو َج َع َل َب ْي َن ُه َما َب ْر َز ًخا َو ِح ْج ًرا َّم ْح ُجورا
And it is He who has released [simultaneously]
the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty
and bitter, and He placed between them a
barrier and prohibiting partition.

َ َ َ ً ْ َ ً َ َ ُ ََ َ َ ً َ َ َْ َ َ َ َ
َان َ ُّبك َّ َ ُ َ
وهو ال ِذي خلق ِمن اَل ِاء بشرا فجعله نسبا و ِصهرا ۗ وك ر
ًَق ِديرا
And it is He who has created from water a
human being and made him [a relative by]

lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord
competent [concerning creation].
َ ُ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ ْ َ َ َ َْ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ
o ()وهو ال ِذي مرج البحري ِن هـذا عذب فرات وهـذا ِملح أجاج
(And it is He who has released [simultaneously]
the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one
salty and bitter,): there are things in life that
appear the same outwardly, but inside they
are different. There can be water, but only
after being tasted, it can be distinguished as
being sweet or salty. And this is the furqan
which Allah ( )ﷻplaces.
o One is salty and one is sweet and these are
their identities. The sweet water can be for
drinking, but not the salty water. But the salty
water is needed to carry ships in the sea and
for buoyancy.

between them a barrier and prohibiting

partition.): Allah ( )ﷻplaces a ()برزخا, barrier so
ُ ْ
ً )و ِحج ًرا َّمحج
their identities are not mixed and (ورا
ْ َ
means there is no way they can cross. It is
forbidden for them to cross one another.
o Look at two great barriers being placed and
that is furqan.
o Furqan is to accept what we have and the
ُ ْ ْ َ
ً )و ِحج ًرا َّمحجare the
barrier is taqwa and the (ورا
rules and legislations with one another.
ً ْ َ ً َ َ ُ ََ َ َ ً َ َ َْ َ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ
o (ۗ صهرا ِ ( )وهو ال ِذي خلق ِمن اَل ِاء بشرا فجعله نسبا وAnd it
is He who has created from water a human
being and made him [a relative by] lineage
and marriage.): from water, Allah ( )ﷻhas

created the human being. And humans are
not created separately, but they are
connected by blood such as parents and
siblings, and the other relation of how they
(ص ْه ًرا

become connected is ِ )و which is
marriage.
َ
(ص ْه ًرا
o ِ )وmeans something stiff such as iron or
copper but when placed under heat, it melts.
We see how marriage, in-laws or friendships
can truly change us, as if they “melt” us.
o Therefore, we should not be arrogant or see
ourselves as better because we are all made
of water.
o This ayah is about furqan in relationships and
we need to be humble and not put others
down.

o ()وكان ربك ق ِديرا (And ever is your Lord
competent [concerning creation].): Allah Al
Qadeer makes the decree of who will be
related to us by lineage and whom we will
connect with by marriage and even friendship.
He is able to choose who will be our blood
relation and it is His ability of who will be our
marriage partner or companion.
o These ayat are all evidence of the Oneness of
Allah ( )ﷻand we need to have taqwa in our
relationships whether we look the same
outwardly such as “water” or we are
connected by being made of water.
FURQAN OF AYAT 53 TO 54: FURQAN IS TO
HAVE AN IDENTITY, BUT REMAIN UNITED
WITH TAQWA AND RULES

ّللا ما ّل ينفعهم وّل يضرهم ۗ وكان الكا ِفرعلى ِ ِ ويعبدو ِمن دو
ًَرب ِه َظهيرا
ِ ِ
But they worship rather than Allah that which
does not benefit them or harm them, and the
disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant
[to Satan].
56 َ َ َو َما أ ْ َس ْل َن
ًاك إ َّّل ُم َب ِش ًرا َو َن ِذيرا
ِ ر

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad
(])ﷺ, except as a bringer of good tidings and a
warner.

ً َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َّ ْ َ ْ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ
قل ما أسألكم علي ِه ِمن أجر ِإّل من شاء أن يت ِخذ ِإلى رِب ِه س ِبيل
Say, "I do not ask of you for it any payment -
only that whoever wills might take to his Lord a
way."
ْ ُ ُّ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ ُ َ ُ ُْ ََ
o (ۗ ّللا ما ّل ينفعهم وّل يضرهم ن ن
ِ ِ ( )ويعبدو ِمن دوBut they
worship rather than Allah that which does not
benefit them or harm them,): the disbelievers
worship those who are below Allah ( )ﷻwho
cannot benefit or harm. So how can someone
give all his emotions for something that will be
of no use for him? Subhan Allah.
o No one can benefit or harm without the
permission of Allah ( )ﷻand that is furqan.

ً َ َ ََ ُ َ ْ َ ََ
o ()وكان الكا ِفر على رِب ِه ظ ِهيرا (and the disbeliever is
ever, against his Lord, an assistant [to Satan].):
the disbeliever helps the devil to be against his
Lord, astaghfar Allah.
o To worship besides Allah ( )ﷻis not simply
disbelief, but opposing the truth of one’s Lord.
Thus he gives support for others to disbelieve as
well. We ask Allah ( )ﷻfor the well-being.
Ameen.
FURQAN OF AYAH 55: FURQAN IS TO
WORSHIP ALLAH ALONE AND GIVE VICTORY
TO THE TRUTH
ً َ َ ً َ ُ َّ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
o ()وما أرسلناك ِإّل مب ِشرا ون ِذيرا (And We have not
sent you, [O Muhammad (])ﷺ, except as a
bringer of good tidings and a warner.): the
Prophet ( )ﷺgives good news to those who do

good and warns those who disbelieve and turn
away from Allah ()ﷻ. And that is furqan to
convey the message with giving good news
and warning. Furqan is not to force people to
believe, but furqan is to choose.
ْ َ ْ ََْ ْ ُ َُ ْ َ َ ْ ُ
o (( )قل ما أسألكم علي ِه ِمن أجرSay, "I do not ask of
you for it any payment -): the Prophet ( )ﷺis to
tell the people that he does not want any
money from the people. Furqan is to convey
the message without asking for anything from
the people. He does not personally gain
anything from them.
ً َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َّ
o (( ) ِإّل من شاء أن يت ِخذ ِإلى رِب ِه س ِبيلonly that whoever
wills might take to his Lord a way."): the Prophet
( )ﷺnever asks people for money and he

makes it clear, but the people give him in order
to seek the pleasure of Allah ()ﷻ.
o Furqan is not to ask people for money, but if
people want to give, they may give. However,
falsehood forces people to give money,
against their will.
FURQAN OF AYAT 56 TO 57: FURQAN IS TO
CONVEY THE MESSAGE WITHOUT TAKING
PAYMENT FROM PEOPLE, BUT PEOPLE CAN
GIVE SEEKING THE PLEASURE OF ALLAH
MAY ALLAH PROTECT US FROM SHIRK AND MAKE US

AYAH 58 – FURQAN THROUGH THE
COMMANDS
ُُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ 58 َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ ْ َ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ
وب
ِ وتوكل على الح ِي ال ِذي ّل يموت وس ِبح ِبحم ِد ِه ۚ وكفى ِب ِه ِبذن
َ
ِع َب ِاد ِه خ ِب ًيرا
And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die,
and exalt [Allah] with His praise. And sufficient is
He to be, with the sins of His servants,
Acquainted -
o We need furqan in order to see more right and
wrong. And by doing so, we find more mercy.
Thus we need furqan in order to have the

mercy of Allah ()ﷻ. We think mercy is to only
have what we want, but it is to have furqan.
o Sometimes we attain furqan after going
through difficult decrees and situations, but
here we find the mercy of Allah ( )ﷻis to attain
furqan in an easy way, and that is with the
command. Now let us look at three “furqans”
in this ayah:
ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ ْ َ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ
o (1) (( )وتوكل على الح ِي ال ِذي ّل يموتAnd rely upon the
Ever-Living who does not die,): here is a great
source of firmness and furqan which is to rely
on Al Hayy – The Ever-Living Who never dies.
The Life of Allah is perfect, but people are weak
and we are weak. So we need to have this
furqan with absolute trust in Allah ()ﷻ.

o We should not rely on someone who will die
because it will be cut-off, but rely on the Ever-
Living Who never dies.
َ ) َو َسب ْح
(2) (ۚ ِبح ْم ِد ِه (and exalt [Allah] with His

praise.): a worship that gives us great furqan is
the remembrance of Allah ( )ﷻwhich keeps us
firm. There are many forms of remembrance,
but which one will grant us furqan? Glorifying
Allah ( )ﷻand then praising Him. So we
immediately push away the negativity by
glorifying Allah ( )ﷻand immediately praise Him
for His perfection.
o Thus the believer remains alive by relying on the
Ever-Living Who never dies and keeps moving
by glorifying and praising Allah ()ﷻ.

o (3) (اد ِه خ ِبيرا
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ( )وكAnd sufficient is He

to be, with the sins of His servants, Acquainted):
and finally, we can overthink the sins of people,
but furqan is not to think about it. Rather we
should be sufficed that Allah is Al Khabeer – All-
Aware – of the sins of people.
o He knows the seed of the sin, what led to it,
what happened after falling into it, how to
remedy it. So we do not need to be “expert” in
the sins of people – this is for Allah ( )ﷻalone.
o Therefore, one can focus on giving glad tidings
and warning in a balanced way when He relies
on the Ever-Living Who never dies and does not
go deep into the sins of people.
FURQAN OF AYAH 58: FURQAN IS ATTAINED
WITH EASE BY TAKING THE COMMANDS OF
ALLAH

Reflection on Surah Al-Furqan, Ayah 58
o "And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not
die, and exalt [Allah] with His praise. And
sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants,
Acquainted."
o This ayah reminds us of the importance of
placing our complete trust in Allah , Al-Hayy,
the Ever-Living who never dies. Unlike human
beings, whose strength and presence are
temporary, Allah’s power and care are
everlasting. Trusting Him gives us a stable
foundation in a world full of change, weakness,
and loss.
o Why do we need Furqan?
o Furqan is the ability to distinguish between right
and wrong. Without it, we live in confusion,
repeating the same mistakes and falling into

the same patterns. We seek Allah’s mercy, and
becoming a true servant of Ar-Rahman
requires us to see with clarity. That clarity
comes through Furqan.
o But Furqan doesn’t only come through trial and
error or through suffering. life lessons can teach
us, but that is the longer route. The shortcut is
through the commands of Allah , through
revelation. When we follow His guidance, we
are gifted with clarity without having to burn
through the same painful experiences again
and again.
o Alhamdulillah for this ease.
o Allah, out of His mercy, has already shown us
the way. The Qur’an is the Furqan. It is the light
we need, and the shortcut to change is
submission to His commands.

o When you trust in Allah , Al-Hayy you are
placing your reliance on the One who will
never die, never weaken, and never fail.
People may appear strong, but their strength
fades, their attention drifts, and their support
eventually ends. Relying on creation will always
leave you disappointed. This realization itself is
a form of Furqan , a life-changing clarity.
o To stay firm, we need dhikr — constant
remembrance.
o Dhikr gives life to the heart. It grounds us. One
of the most powerful forms of dhikr is:
o “SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi”
o This praise of Allah repels negativity, refreshes
the soul, and acts as an emotional and spiritual
outlet. It is a release , a means to cleanse the
heart.

o Sometimes we are burdened by the sins of
others.
o We become overwhelmed by what people
are doing their mistakes, their choices, their
lifestyles. But this ayah reminds us:
o “Sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His
servants, Acquainted.”
o Allah knows. He is fully aware. Al-Khabeer —
the One who knows all hidden details.
o It is not your job to carry the sins of others on
your back. You don’t need to know every
detail of every person’s life. That’s not Furqan.
Real Furqan is knowing when to let go, and
trusting that Allah is already dealing with it.
o So what should we do?
o Trust in Allah. Make dhikr. Worship with sincerity.
Focus on your role. Let go of what is not your

responsibility. Then clarity come, and you will
be able to serve in the best way.
MAY ALLAH MAKE US FROM THE MUTWAKILEEN, WHO
GLORIFY AND PRAISE ALLAH AND BE AT REST THAT ALL IS

SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 59 TO 60 – FURQAN THROUGH THE
COMMANDS
o Surah Al Furqan was revealed in Makkah while
the Prophet ( )ﷺwas going through a great
deal of rejection and mockery from the
disbelievers. But instead of sinking into it, it was
to build up more furqan and clarity.
o Thus a person can see two sides of the story –
life is not perfect and we will be balanced
when we see two sides – that some accept
and some reject.

o The greatest furqan in our life is not about what
we feel or see, but to know Who is Allah ()ﷻ,
especially a vast and great Name of Allah – Ar
Rahman.
o So the peak is when Allah ( )ﷻgives console to
the Prophet ( )ﷺby saying look at how they
deny The Most Merciful. Knowing this makes us
self-less and not pity ourselves for being
rejected and denied, subhan Allah.
o Allah ( )ﷻis Al Khabeer (The All-Aware) and
“Expert” in all matters. And Who is Allah Al
Khabeer? We find the answer in the following
ayah:

َ َ ْ َّ ُ َّ َّ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َّ
ات واْلرض وما بينهما ِفي ِست ِة أيام ثم استوى ِ ال ِذي خلق السماو
ًاس َأ ْل ب ِه َخبيراْ الر ْح َمـ ُن َف
َّ ۚ َع َلى ْال َع ْرش
ِ ِ ِ
He who created the heavens and the earth
and what is between them in six days and then
established Himself above the Throne - the Most
Merciful, so ask about Him one well informed.
َ 60
َ ُ ُ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َّ َ َ ُ َ َ ْ َّ ُ ُ ْ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ
و ِإذا ِقيل لهم اسجدوا ِللرحمـ ِن قالوا وما الرحمـن أنسجد َِلا
ً ُ ُ ْ ُ َ َ َ َُ ُ َْ
۩ تأمرنا وزادهم نفورا
And when it is said to them, "Prostrate to the
Most Merciful," they say, "And what is the Most
Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you
order us?" And it increases them in aversion.
َّ َ َّ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َ َّ
o (ات واْلرض وما بينهما ِفي ِست ِة أيام ِ ( )ال ِذي خلق السماوHe
who created the heavens and the earth and
what is between them in six days): Allah ()ﷻ
created the heavens and the earth in six days.
Someone may say why is it not created in a
blink of an eye if “All-Aware”? Subhan Allah.

o Allah ( )ﷻis able to do everything, He just says,
“be” and it is. But Allah ( )ﷻcreates it in six days
so that people believe and because He wants
to teach us gentleness and gradualness. We
cannot attain furqan without observing and
going through experiences.
o Allah ( )ﷻcan do everything quickly, but
everything comes with time and that is furqan.
o Allah ( )ﷻcreated the earth in four days and the
heavens in two days because the earth is the
place where mischief takes place. And Allah
( )ﷻnever took a break on the seventh day.
ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َّ ُ
o
ِ )ثم استوى على العر
(ۚ ش (and then established
Himself above the Throne): Allah Ar Rahman
rose over the Throne in a manner that suits His
Majesty, and this shows His greatness.

o The Throne is the greatest creation and its size
relative to Kursi Allah is like a ring in the desert,
and the size of Kursi Allah relative to the
heavens and earth is like a ring in the desert.

ُ َ ْ
َّ ) (the Most Merciful,): the One Who rose
(الرحمـن
over The Throne is The Most Merciful; He rose
with The Vastest Name. And that is balance
that The Most Great is The Most Merciful – ( ال إله
)اال هللا.
o Furqan is not about someone being in a high
position with strong character, or soft
character with no position. Allah ( )ﷻis in the
Highest Position, yet The Most Merciful.
ً َ ْ َْ َ
o ()فاسأل ِب ِه خ ِبيرا (so ask about Him one well
informed.): if we want to know more, we should
not ask someone surface or shallow, but ask

provides the disbeliever.

FURQAN OF AYAH 59: FURQAN IS NOT TO
BE SHALLOW, BUT TO GO THROUGH
EXPERIENCE AND RELY ON HIS MERCY
o And in the next ayah, we see how the
disbelievers disbelieve in The Most Merciful,
subhan Allah.

(( )وإذا ِقيل لهم اسجدوا ِللرحمـ ِنAnd when it is said

to them, "Prostrate to the Most Merciful): all that

Allah ( )ﷻdoes is out of His vast mercy, so we
should prostrate and submit to this.
o We see situations, but we should not get
annoyed. Rather we should surrender because
Allah is The Most Merciful.
o This is furqan to respect and surrender to The
Most Merciful. We usually surrender to
someone harsh and angry, but that is not
furqan. Thus they deny The Most Merciful
because He is Kind? Subhan Allah.
ً ُ ُ ْ ُ َ َ َ َ ُ ُ ْ َ َ ُ ُ ْ َ َ ُ َ ْ َّ َ َ ُ َ
o (۩ ( )قالوا وما الرحمـن أنسجد َِلا تأمرنا وزادهم نفوراthey
say, "And what is the Most Merciful? Should we
prostrate to that which you order us?" And it
increases them in aversion.): they need Allah Ar
Rahman for everything in their life, but they
reject The Most Merciful, subhan Allah. They

have no mercy because they reject The Most
Merciful.
o And then Allah ( )ﷻboasts about those Who
believe in The Most Merciful. He tells us about
the slaves of the Most Merciful and their
qualities to know Who is The Most Merciful and
how He has nurtured them by His mercy.

RESPECT AND SURRENDER TO THE MOST
MERCIFUL

You, expressing gratitude to You and worship
You in the best manner)".8
o Now we reach the sweetest part of Surah Al
Furqan when we discover who are the people

of criterion – people of furqan who are
balanced after going through nurturing.
o For any situation we go through, we must
prostrate and submit to the Most Merciful, and
this will actually benefit us and make
everything in our favor.
o Ibad Ar Rahman surrender to the Most Merciful
in difficult situations. We must see how The Most
Merciful nurtured and impacted them, so they
become Ibad Ar Rahman.
o Now we find a beautiful transition from those
who denied The Most Merciful to those who
submitted to The Most Merciful.

And it is He who has made the night and the

has placed in the sky great stars): blessed is

Allah Who made ( )ب ُروجاwhich are stars, like

“towers”. They are adornment, protection and
guidance in the sky. And what else is in the
sky?

o (( )وجعل ِفيها ِسراجا وقمرا م ِنيراand placed therein a
[burning] lamp and luminous moon.): () ِس َراجا

refers to the sun that is like a lamp.
o So in the sky, there are all means of guidance,
and that is furqan to mention something
specific. Each one has its role and furqan is to
accept differences between people who are
at the same level.
ً ُّ ً َ ََ
o ( )وقمرا م ِنيراthe moon is “very shy” and it has no
light on its own, but Allah ( )ﷻmentions its name
ً َ ََ
directly as moon ()وقمرا.
o The moon gets light from the sun, and the “sun”
can be similar to guidance and inspiration. So
we need knowledge in order to be lit.

FURQAN OF AYAH 61: FURQAN IS TO
ACCEPT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PEOPLE
WHO ARE AT THE SAME LEVEL
ً َ ْ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ َّ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ
o (( )وهو ال ِذي جعل الليل والنهار ِخلفةAnd it is He who
has made the night and the day in succession):
there is guidance, lamp and glow in the sky –
this can be like the revelation, knowledge and
decrees, but it needs an “environment”.
o It is Allah ( )ﷻWho makes the night and day in
succession – when one comes, the other
leaves.
o Decrees come as “night situations” and “day
situations” in succession, and these are the
best environments for Ibad Ar Rahman to
flourish.
ً ُ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ َ َّ َّ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ
o (( ) َِلن أراد أن يذكر أو أراد شكوراfor whoever desires
to remember or desires gratitude.): these are

the best environments for remembering Allah
( )ﷻor being grateful to Him.

َ() َأ َراد means to have determination and an
intention to remember and be grateful.
FURQAN OF AYAH 62: FURQAN IS TO HAVE

" اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني: "قولي:فيها؟ قال
I asked: "O Messenger of Allah ( !)صلى هللا عليه وسلمIf I
realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what
should I supplicate in it?" He replied, "You should
supplicate:
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa,
fa'fu 'anni
(O Allah, You are All-Pardoning, and love to
pardon; so pardon me)."9

o As we approach the final nights of Ramadan,
we ask Allah ( )ﷻto free our necks from the fire
and all our families and beloved ones.
o May Allah ( )ﷻmake us among those who
fasted, established the night prayer and the
night of decree out of faith and hoping for the
reward.
o We ask Allah ( )ﷻto pardon us and make any
trials we go through to make us enjoy the result
of overcoming it. We want the end of
Ramadan to be the peak because He is The
First, The Last, The Apparent, The Hidden. We
ask Allah ( )ﷻto end Ramadan in the best way.
o And now with Surah Al Furqan, it concludes
with Ibad Ar Rahman – Slaves of the Most
Merciful.

SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 63 TO 67 – IBAD AR RAHMAN –
SLAVES OF THE MOST MERCIFUL
o The Slaves of the Most Merciful want to
preserve and protect what they have after
going through nurturing. They are lanterns
themselves with dignity, values, faith, worship
and balanced interactions. At the same time,
they know their boundaries and they know
they cannot trust themselves.
o Thus they have greater taqwa in order to not
transgress. They understood the two sides of
the story and they want to be in the middle.
o The Slaves of the Most Merciful benefit from
both the day and night.

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those
who walk upon the earth easily, and when the
ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words
of] peace,

ًين َيب ُيتو َن ل َربه ْم ُس َّج ًدا َوق َياما

And those who spend [part of] the night to their
Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]

وال ِذين يقولو ربنا اص ِرف عنا عذاب جهنم ۖ ِإن عذابها كان

And those who say, "Our Lord, avert from us the
punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is
ever adhering;

Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence."

And [they are] those who, when they spend, do
so not excessively or sparingly but are ever,
between that, [justly] moderate

َ ْ َّ
(الرحمـ ِن ) َو ِع َب ُاد (And the servants of the Most
Merciful): Ibad Ar Rahman have many
qualities, but the greatest quality is being slaves
– surrendering to Allah ()ﷻ, submitting without
rejection to the Most Merciful. May Allah ()ﷻ
make us among them. Ameen.
o Ibad Ar Rahman are not one person, but they
are “slaves” because they need an
environment to be together to show more of
their servitude and gratitude to Allah ()ﷻ. This is
the vast mercy of Allah ( )ﷻwhich creates such
people.
o Allah Ar Rahman is The Most Merciful in this life
and the next, and everything is balanced with

the Name of Allah Ar Rahman. He is the Owner
of Majesty and Honor, so He never leaves them
to exceed their boundaries and always honors
them.
ً ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َّ َ َ ْ ُ َن
o (ض هونا ِ ( )ال ِذين يمشو على اْلرare those who walk
upon the earth easily,): here we find their
qualities of how they walk and how they react.
It is not about them speaking, but their reaction
when spoken to.
o What we have gone through in life affects our
walk. They are not running or flying, but they
walk, just as Allah ()ﷻ mentioned the
messengers walk in the markets. So they are
not harsh or hard on the earth. They are also
not someone silent or still, but they walk.

ً َ َ ُ َ َ ُ َ ْ ُ ََُ َ َ َ
o (اهلون قالوا سلما
ِ )و ِإذا خاطبهم الج (and when the
ignorant address them [harshly], they say
[words of] peace,): most people are irritated
when foolish people speak to them. But the
Slaves of the Most Merciful do not harm, hurt or
insult them; they are peaceful.
o They are moderate in their speech – they are
not just quiet, nor do they speak out to prove
themselves; they are moderate speaking
peacefully.
o So the first description of Ibad Ar Rahman is not
about their worships, but their disciplined
demeanor because they know Who is Allah
()ﷻ. This is their “day phase”, and what is their
“night phase”?

ً َ َ ً َّ ُ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ َّ َ
o ()وال ِذين ي ِبيتون ِلرِب ِهم سجدا و ِقياما (And those who
spend [part of] the night to their Lord
prostrating and standing [in prayer]): people
can be so good with people during the day,
but fall asleep entirely at night. But Ibad Ar
Rahman want more nurturing, even at night.
They want to be in prostration and standing to
their Lord – this is their fuel and nurturing.
o They take rest by worshipping Allah ( )ﷻat night
and are far away from the eyes of the people.
The best prayer after the obligation is qiyam al
layl, and in the month of Ramdan, we see how
beautiful it is. The night prayer is our dignity and
honor. May Allah ( )ﷻhelp us after Ramadan to
perform the night prayer, even if little. Ameen.
o So we should ask ourselves, “what is our furqan
in the morning and what is our furqan at

night?”. The night reveals truthfulness of the
heart and its state. And the days reveals our
goodness and gratitude in how we deal with
people.
FURQAN OF AYAT 63 TO 64: FURQAN IS TO
HAVE A DAY PHASE WITH THE PEOPLE AND
NIGHT PHASE OF SECLUSION OF
WORSHIPPING ALLAH
َ َ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َّ َ ْ ْ َ َّ َ َ َّ َ َ ُ ُ َن
o ( وال ِذين يقولو ربنا اص ِرف عنا عذاب جهنم ۖ ِإن عذابها كان
ً( ) َغ َراماAnd those who say, "Our Lord, avert from
us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its
punishment is ever adhering;): What do they
invoke Allah ( ?)ﷻThey are not asking for
paradise, but they invoke Allah ( )ﷻto be
protected from the hellfire. They do not feel
secure with themselves.

o They have tasted what it means to be in trials,
what it means to be hurt, and a person wants
to benefit from these feelings by invoking Allah
( )ﷻto be away from the fire. They “export”
these painful feelings in this life in order to ask
for protection from the fire. And this shows a
great deal of furqan.
o The greatest furqan is the believer who is not
deceived with himself. They know if they are
saved from the fire and are forgiven, then they
will be granted eternal happiness in paradise.
ً َ ُ َ ًّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ َ َ َّ
o () ِإنها ساءت مستقرا ومقاما (Indeed, it is evil as a
settlement and residence."): the hellfire is the
worst place to reside and be there eternally.
They do not want to pass through it or have it
as a destination. The fire is tormenting
physically, emotionally and mentally. There is

no rest, no food or drink that can be satisfying.
We ask Allah for the well-being. Ameen.
FURQAN OF AYAT 65 TO 66: FURQAN IS TO
NOT STOP AT THE BAD MOMENTS IN OUR
LIFE, BUT TO HAVE MORE FEELINGS FOR
THE AKHIRA AND TO BE AWAY FROM THE
FIRE
َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ُ ُ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ َ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ َ
o ( وال ِذين ِإذا أنفقوا لم يس ِرفوا ولم يقتروا وكان بين ذ ِلك
ً( ) َق َواماAnd [they are] those who, when they
spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but
are ever, between that, [justly] moderate):
here we find they are balanced in what they
give – money, speech, time – they do not do
too much or too little.
o It is not about spending more or less, but to
spend moderately and in balance at all times.

o We should give moderately so we can keep up
with it all the time. If we do too much, it can be
painful to keep up and if we do too little, it
shows miserliness.
o Ibad Ar Rahman are balanced between these
two; it is important to always ask Allah ( )ﷻfor
guidance.
FURQAN OF AYAH 67: FURQAN IS TO BE
BALANCED IN GIVING SO IT CAN BE
SUSTAINED
MAY ALLAH MAKE US SLAVES OF THE MOST MERCIFUL .

SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 68 TO 71 – IBAD AR RAHMAN –
PURIFICATION
o The Slaves of the Most Merciful are balanced
and they never feel secure from the plan of
Allah ()ﷻ. This means they are not confident in
themselves. Even if they do their best, they
cannot guarantee they can be the worst.

َ الن ْف ُ َ
ِ ّللا ِإلـها آخروّل يقتلو ِ وال ِذين ّل يدعو مع
ًّللا إ َّّل ب ْال َحق َوَّل َي ْزُنو َن ۚ َو َمن َي ْف َع ْل َذل َك َي ْل َق َأ َثاما
ُ َّ
ِ ِ ِ ِ
And those who do not invoke with Allah another
deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden
[to be killed], except by right, and do not
commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And
whoever should do that will meet a penalty.

Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day
of Resurrection, and he will abide therein
humiliated -

ُ َّ صال ًحا َفأ َولـئ َك ُي َبد ُل
ّْللا َسي َئاتهم َ اب َو َآم َن َو َعم َل َع َم ًل
َ إ َّّل َمن َت
ِِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ
ًورا َّر ِحيماً ّللا َغ ُف َ ََ َ َ َ
ُ َّ ان حسنات ۗ وك
Except for those who repent, believe and do
righteous work. For them Allah will replace their
evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving
and Merciful.

ًّللا َم َتابا ُ صال ًحا َفإ َّن ُه َي ُت
َّ وب إ َلى َ َو َمن َت
َ اب َو َعم َل
ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ
And he who repents and does righteousness
does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted]
repentance.
o Slaves of the Most Merciful have a great
influence on others. They know these major sins
diminishes their relationship with Allah ( )ﷻand
diminishes their relationship with people.

o Every major sin tarnishes one of our “jewels”
which need to be protected.
َ ً َ َّ َ َ َ ُ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ
َ(آخر
o ِ ( )وال ِذين ّل يدعون معAnd those who do
ّللا ِإلـها
not invoke with Allah another deity): they do
not come near to shirk; they make it a big no
and have no association with it. That is furqan
in tawheed – they do not call on anyone other
than Allah ()ﷻ.
o When they see people worshiping idols or
desires, they want to be even more away from
it.
َ ْ َّ ُ َّ َ َّ َ َّ َ ْ َّ َ ُ ُ ْ َ َ َ
o ()وّل يقتلون النفس ال ِتي حرم ّللا ِإّل ِبالح ِق (or kill the
soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed],
except by right,): the second sin is to not kill a
nafs wrongfully. The greatest transgression
against people is murder.

o (ۚ ( )وّل يزنونand do not commit unlawful sexual
intercourse.): they stay away from anything
that can lead to zina, and that is related to
chastity and honor.
o Ibad Ar Rahman want to preserve their
relationship with Allah ( )ﷻand with the people,
and that is furqan.
o These three matters of shirk, murder and zina
are all based on ego and desires.
ً ََ َ َْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ
o (( )ومن يفعل ذ ِلك يلق أثاماAnd whoever should do
that will meet a penalty.): and if they fall into
these sins, they will be tormented one after
ً ََ
another. ( )أثاماis a punishment that is multiplied
because their effect on others is multiplied due
to their high position.

o (يه مهانا
ِ )يضاعف له العذاب يوم ال ِقيام ِة ويخلد ِف
(Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day
of Resurrection, and he will abide therein
humiliated -): anyone who commits all three of
shirk, murder and zina will abide there forever.
The torment is not just physical but emotional
with being humiliated and brought down.
o Their punishment will be doubled because they
have an influence on others.
o Shirk is opposite to tawheed. Murder is opposite
to honor and respecting people. Zina is
opposite to guarding the chastity and
speaking good of others.
FURQAN OF AYAT 68 TO 69: FURQAN IS TO
HAVE DOUBLE RECOMPENSE DUE TO THEIR
INFLUENCE ON OTHERS

o (( ) ِإّل من تاب وآمن وع ِمل عمل ص ِالحاExcept for those
who repent, believe and do righteous work.):
after seeing the intensity of the sins, their
repentance is twice needed because
anything they do, others will see and be
influenced.
o They must repent and quit the sin, renew their
faith after being affected by those sins, and
perform good deeds in order to erase the
image and effect of the sins committed.
ً َّ ً ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ُ َّ ُ َ ُ َ َ ُ َ
o ()فأولـ ِئك يب ِدل ّللا س ِيئ ِات ِهم حسنات ۗ وكان ّللا غفورا ر ِحيما
(For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with
good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and
Merciful.): when they show their truthfulness in
repentance, Allah ( )ﷻwill not only erase their
sins, but exchange them to good deeds.

o Repentance is there until the sun rises from the
west.
ً َ َ َّ َ ُ ُ َ ُ َّ َ ً َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ
o (ّللا متابا
ِ ( )ومن تاب وع ِمل ص ِالحا ف ِإنه يتوب ِإلىAnd he
who repents and does righteousness does
indeed turn to Allah with [accepted]
repentance.): anyone who repents and returns
back to Allah ( )ﷻneeds a great deal of
sincerity to Allah ( )ﷻand following the way of
the Prophet ()ﷺ.
o So we find truthfulness, sincerity and continuity
in these ayat.
FURQAN OF AYAT 70 TO 71: FURQAN IS
TRUTHFUL REPENTANCE CHANGES PEOPLE
TO THE BEST
MAY ALLAH MAKE US SLAVES OF THE MOST MERCIFUL WHO

INTRODUCTION
BEST SUPPLICATION ON THE NIGHT OF
DECREE
يا رسول هللا أرأيت إن علمت أي ليلة القدرما أقول:قلت
ُ
" اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني: "قولي:فيها؟ قال
I asked: "O Messenger of Allah ( !)صلى هللا عليه وسلمIf I
realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what
should I supplicate in it?" He replied, "You should
supplicate:
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa,
fa'fu 'anni
(O Allah, You are All-Pardoning, and love to
pardon; so pardon me)."11

o May Allah ( )ﷻfree us from the fire and chain
our devils all the time. May Allah ( )ﷻgrant us a
good end. Ameen.
SURAH AL FURQAN
AYAT 72 TO 77 – IBAD AR RAHMAN –
THEIR PROTECTION
o Ibad Ar Rahman is mentioned twice in the
Qur’an. In one place it refers to angels, but
here it refers to human slaves who are not
angels or messengers. However, they are
distinct from other people due to their
manners, worships, belief and behavior, thus
making them worthy to be Ibad Ar Rahman
o They walk with humbleness and in the middle
of the night they worship Allah ( )ﷻand make
dua. They connect to Allah ( )ﷻat the best
time.

o Their dua is to be protected from the fire and
that is furqan. They are balanced in different
states of their life.
o In addition, they abstain from major sins and do
not ascribe purity to themselves. They are
afraid they can fall into shirk, murder and zina.
o They are a good example, but if they fall into
these sins, their torment is multiplied because
they influence others.
o Whenever they remember their sins, they
increase in repenting to Allah ()ﷻ.

ًالل ْغو َم ُّروا ك َراما ُّ َ َ َ َ ُّ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ َ َّ َ
ِ ِ وال ِذين ّل يشهدون الزورو ِإذا مروا ِب
And [they are] those who do not testify to
falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech,
they pass by with dignity.

ً َ ْ ُ َ ًّ ُ َ ْ َ َ ُّ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ
ات رِب ِهم لم ي ِخروا عليها صما وعميانا
ِ وال ِذين ِإذا ذ ِكروا ِبآي

And those who, when reminded of the verses of
their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind.
ُ ْ َ َ 74
َ َّ ُ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ ْ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َّ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ
اجنا وذ ِريا ِتنا قرة أعينِ وال ِذين يقولون ربنا هب لنا ِمن أزو
ًاج َع ْل َنا ل ْل ُم َّتق َين إ َماما
ْ َو
ِ ِ ِ
And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from
among our wives and offspring comfort to our
eyes and make us an example for the
righteous."
75 ُ َ أ َولـئ َك ُي ْج َز ْو َن ْال ُغ ْر َف َة ب َما
ًص َب ُروا َو ُي َل َّق ْو َن ف َيها َتح َّي ًة َو َس َلما
ِ ِ ِ ِ
Those will be awarded the Chamber for what
they patiently endured, and they will be
received therein with greetings and [words of]
peace.
76
ًين ف َيها ۚ َح ُس َن ْت ُم ْس َت َق ًّرا َو ُم َقاما
َ َخالد
ِ ِِ
Abiding eternally therein. Good is the
settlement and residence.
77 ُ
ُ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َّ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ُ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ
قل ما يعبأ ِبكم رِبي لوّل دعاؤكم ۖ فقد كذبتم فسوف يكون
ِل َز ًاما

Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for
your supplication?" For you [disbelievers] have
denied, so your denial is going to be adherent.
ُّ ين َّل َي ْش َه ُدو َن
َ(الزور َ ( ) َو َّالذAnd [they are] those who
o ِ
do not testify to falsehood,): Ibad Ar Rahman
never want to witness anything haram – they
do not witness shirk, falsehood or lies because
it makes them imbalanced.
ً َ ُّ َ ْ َّ ُّ َ َ َ
o و و
()وإذا مر ا ِباللغ ِو مر ا ِكراما
ِ (and when they pass
near ill speech, they pass by with dignity.): and
if there is something that is not haram such as
vain talk, they pass through it with dignity. They
do not indulge in it, they just listen and move
on. They do not judge others or participate in
vain talk. Insulting people for indulging in vain
talk is not passing with dignity.

o In paradise, there will be no vain talk or lies, only
good, peaceful and encouraging words.
FURQAN OF AYAH 72: FURQAN IS TO STAY
AWAY FROM HARAM AND PASS WITH
DIGNITY WITH WHAT IS NEITHER HALAL OR
HARAM
ً َ ْ ُ َ ًّ ُ َ ْ َ َ ُّ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ
o (ات رِب ِهم لم ي ِخروا عليها صما وعميانا
ِ )وال ِذين ِإذا ذ ِكروا ِبآي
(And those who, when reminded of the verses
of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and
blind.): they interact with the Qur’an – they
never ignore it or turn away from it.
o Ibad Ar Rahman are naturally with the Qur’an,
but here we are told of their quality when they
are reminded of its ayat by others.
o They know it is nurturing from their Lord so they
do not reject it. They hear it and are not blind
to it.

FURQAN OF AYAH 73: FURQAN IS TO NEVER
MISS ON THE AYAT THAT COME TO US
BECAUSE THERE IS NURTURING BEHIND IT
ُ ْ َ َ َّ ُ َ َّ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َّ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ
o ( اجنا وذ ِريا ِتنا قرة أعين ِ وال ِذين يقولون ربنا هب لنا ِمن أزو
ًاج َع ْل َنا ل ْل ُم َّتق َين إ َماما
ْ ( ) َوAnd those who say, "Our
ِ ِ ِ
Lord, grant us from among our wives and
offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an
example for the righteous."): Ibad Ar Rahman
went through many difficult times with people
so in the end, they do not want be with people
who will be a fitna and struggle for them. They
make dua and this shows the purity of their
heart and wanting to have good people
around them.
o They want nurturing from their Lord to be
granted from their spouses and friends, and
from their children and offspring who will be

coolness of eyes for them. This means they do
not want to look elsewhere; their eyes are
content when they see their spouses, friends
and offspring.
o It is a great protection from shirk, jealousy and
arrogance when we have coolness in our eyes.
To have people who are coolness to our eyes
is enriching.
o At the same time, they are motivated to lead,
but those who are muttaqeen. They do not
want leadership in the duniya, but in taqwa.
This shows a great amount of furqan in their
dua.
FURQAN OF AYAH 74: FURQAN IS TO HAVE
COOLNESS OF EYES IN ORDER TO SERVE
THE DEEN AND NOT FOR SELF-DESIRE

ُ َ َ َ َ َُْ ْ َ َْ ْ ُ َ َ ُ
o ()أولـ ِئك يجزون الغرفة ِبما صبروا (Those will be
awarded the Chamber for what they patiently
endured,): they will be granted a chamber
which is in a very high level in paradise. It is big,
but cozy due to their patience.
o We want to be patient for Allah ( )ﷻand not
allow our nafs to overtake us. To abstain from
sins, to be moderate and to be well-mannered
are all due to their patience.
ً َ َ َ ً َّ َ َ َ ْ َّ َ ُ َ
o ()ويلقون ِفيها ت ِحية وسلما (and they will be
received therein with greetings and [words of]
peace.): the angels will welcome them though
they were put down by others in this life.
ً َ ُ َ ًّ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ ُ َ َ َ َ
o ()خ ِال ِدين ِفيها ۚ حسنت مستقرا ومقاما (Abiding
eternally therein. Good is the settlement and
residence.): they will be in paradise forever

and that is the best residence and position. We
ask Allah ( )ﷻof His favor. Ameen.
FURQAN OF AYAT 75 TO 76: FURQAN IS
PATIENCE AT ALL TIMES
ْ ُ ُ َ ُ َْ َ َ ْ ُ َُْ َ َ ْ ُ
o (ۖ ( )قل ما يعبأ ِبكم رِبي لوّل دعاؤكمSay, "What would
my Lord care for you if not for your
supplication?"): the Prophet ( )ﷺis to tell the
people that Allah ( )ﷻwill not care for us if we
do not make dua. Thus a great furqan is Allah
( )ﷻwill not care for us if we do not make dua.
o We do not know how our dua can change our
decree, ultimately changing our life. Therefore,
we must increase in making dua.
ً َ ُ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َّ َ ْ َ َ
o ()فقد كذبتم فسوف يكون ِلزاما (For you
[disbelievers] have denied, so your denial is

going to be adherent.): they are liars if they do
not make dua and then the punishment
becomes a must for him.
o The person did not make dua to keep the fire
away from him or ask for coolness of eyes. It is
important that we never stop making dua and
to carry it with us even after Ramadan.
FURQAN OF AYAH 77: FURQAN IS TO
ALWAYS MAKE DUA.
o Out of Allah’s mercy, He makes situations from
“day” and “night” so there can be Ibad Ar
Rahman. The situations are clear and the
furqan is in our hand and that is the Qur’an.
