1. The coefficient of static friction between the fiat bed of the truck and the crate it carries is 0.30.
Determine the minimum stopping distance s which the truck can have from a speed of 70 km/h with
constant deceleration if the crate is not to slip forward.
2. A man pulls himself up the 15° incline by the method shown. If the combined weight of the man and
cart is 250 lb, determine the acceleration of the cart if the man exerts a pull of 60 lb on the rope. Neglect
all friction and the mass of the rope, pulleys, and wheels.
3. If the coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the 20-kg block A and the 100-kg cart Bare both
essentially the same value of 0.50, determine the acceleration of each part for (a) P = 60 N and (b)
P=40N.
4. The motorized drum turns clockwise at constant speed, causing the vertical cable to have a constant
downward velocity v. As part of the design of this system, determine the tension T in the cable in terms
of the y-coordinate of the cylinder of mass m. Neglect the diameter and mass of the small pulleys.
5. The robot arm is elevating and extending simultaneously. At a given instant, θ = 30°, ̇ = 40 deg/s, ̈ =
120 deg/s2, l = 0.5 m ̇ = 0.4 m/s, and, ̈ = -0.3 m/s2. Compute the radial and transverse forces Fr and Fɵ
that the arm must exert on the gripped part P, which has a mass of 1.2 kg. Compare with the case of
static equilibrium in the same position.
6. Beginning from rest when = 20°, a 35kg child slides with negligible friction down the sliding board
which is in the shape of a 2.5m circular arc. Determine the tangential acceleration and speed of the child,
and the normal force exerted on her (a) when = 30° and (b) when = 90°.
7. A 10-lb collar is attached to a spring and slides without friction along a fixed rod in a vertical plane. The
spring has an undeformed length of 14 in. and a constant k = 4 lb/in. Knowing that the collar is released
from rest in the position shown, determine the force exerted by the rod on the collar at (a) Point A, (b)
Point B. Both these points are on the curved portion of the rod.
8. The 1.2-kg slider is released from rest in position A and slides without friction along the vertical-plane
guide shown. Determine (a) the speed of the slider as it passes position B and (b) the maximum
deflection of the spring.
9. The system shown is in equilibrium when ϕ = 0. Knowing that initially ϕ = 90° and that block C is given
a slight nudge when the system is in that position, determine the velocity of the block as it passes
through the equilibrium position ϕ = 0. Neglect the weight of the rod.
