Unit :- 1

In the Brihat Trayi (major trio) of Ayurveda (Charak Samhita, Sushrut Samhita, and Ashtanga
Hridaya), various principles of health management are described. These principles are based
on the fundamental principles of Ayurveda and provide guidance for maintaining health and
preventing diseases . Below is the description of these principles in Hindi.

Panchakarma

•Panchakarma is a major treatment system of Ayurveda, which includes five procedures for
purifying the body and balancing the doshas.

Rog Nidan aur Upchar (Diagnosis and Treatment)

•In Sushrut Samhita, detailed methods for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases are given
. This includes surgery.

Diet is important .

•This principle states that an imbalance of any dosha gives rise to various types of diseases .
For example: Excess of Vata causes diseases like arthritis, excess of Pitta causes diseases like
ulcers, and excess of Kapha causes diseases like obesity .

Sapta Dhatu Siddhanta (Seven Tissues Maintenance)

•Measures to nourish Rasa (nutrients), Rakta (blood), Mansa (muscle), Meda (fat), Asthi
