OFFICER OF THE GUYANA DEFENCE FORCE
I AM A PROFESSIONAL!

As a professional I am a proud member of a venerable corps of men


who are leaders of soldiers. Discipline and loyalty are attributes that I will
always possess, so I can forever be of credit to the men I lead, the Guyana
Defence Force and my country.

In the execution of my duties competence will always be my watch-


word. The crowning glory of my career will be when I can always report,
that my mission has been successfully accomplished. I will always thirst
for knowledge so as to improve my proficiency. My men will see me as a
true leader. I will give to them the outstanding leadership they expect and
deserve. Their needs will be of paramount importance to me and my
relationship with them will be without fear or favour, affection or ill will.

The confidence and trust reposed in me by my Officers will not be


squandered. I am aware of the important linkage I am meant to be,
between the Officer and the soldier. To this end I will obey the orders of
my superiors so that honour and glory can be had for us all. I will earn
the respect of my superiors, peers and subordinate by displaying sound
knowledge, initiative and the will to complete given tasks. I will not
compromise these principles, which I hold true and dear, for I am a proud
member of the universally acclaimed, “BACKBONE OF THE ARMY”.
