General Instructions:
● This question paper comprises five Sections - A, B, C, D and E.
● There are 33 questions in the question paper on 5 printed pages.
● All the questions are compulsory.
● Section A contains sixteen questions of 1 mark each, Section B contains five short
answer questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven short answer questions of
three marks each, Section D contains two case study based questions of four marks each
and Section E contains three long answer questions of five marks each.
● There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one
question in Section B, one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D
and all the three questions in Section E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in
such questions.

SECTION-A
1. Name the factor on which the coefficient of friction depends. 1

3. Give the magnitude and direction of the net force acting on a stone of 0.1 kg just 1
after it is dropped from the window of a train running at a constant velocity of 36
km/h.

22. A projectile is given an initial velocity of (𝑖 + 2 𝑗 ) m/s. If g = 10 ms-2 what will 3
be the equation of its trajectory?
23. The velocity of a train increases at a constant rate 𝝰 from 0 to v and then remains 3
constant for some time interval and then finally decreases to zero at a constant rate

24. At t=0 a particle is at rest at origin. Its acceleration is 2 ms-2 for the first 3s and 3
-2 ms-2 for the next 3s. Plot the acceleration versus time, velocity versus time and
position versus time graph.
25. A large fluid star oscillates in shape under the influence of its own gravitational field 3
using dimensional analysis, find the expression for the period of oscillation (T) in
terms of radius of star (R) , mean density of fluid (𝞺) and universal gravitational
constant (G).
26. What is the acceleration of the block and trolley system, if the coefficient of kinetic 3
friction between the trolley and the surface is 0.04? What is the tension in the string?
Neglect the mass of the string. Take g = 10 ms-2

27. A block of mass 1 kg moving on a horizontal surface with speed 2 m/s enters a 3
rough surface. The retarding force F on the block is given by:

motion. A stone tied to the end of a 1 m long string, is whirled in a horizontal circle
with a constant speed. If the stone makes 22 revolutions in 44 s, what is the
magnitude and direction of acceleration of the stone?

without reducing the speed. The coefficient of static friction between the
tyres and the road is 1. Will the cyclist slip while taking the turn? Show
mathematically.

32. (a) Define the terms (i) Angle of friction (ii) Angle of repose. Prove that angle 5
of friction is equal to angle of repose.
(b) A smooth block is released at rest on a 450 incline and then slides a distance
‘d’. If the time taken to slide on a rough incline is ‘n’ times as large as that to
slide on a smooth incline, find the coefficient of friction.
33. (a) State and prove work-energy theorem. 5
(b) Two identical 5 kg blocks are moving with the same speed of 2 m/s towards
each other along a frictionless horizontal surface. The two blocks collide,
stick together and come to rest. Consider the two blocks as a system.
Calculate work done by (i) external forces and (ii) internal forces.

33. (a) What is meant by positive work, negative work and zero work? Give one 5
example of each.
(b) A bullet loses 19% of its kinetic energy when it passes through an obstacle.
What is the percentage change in its speed?
