2 Design and Solution
2.1 Initial Battery Capacity Calculation
Design principle:
The system is engineered to deliver a minimum of 2.5 MW for the beginning of life capacity. At the
point of coupling (MV POC), the initial system capacity exceeds this baseline requirement, ensuring
robust performance from the outset. The initial capacity is determined using the following
calculation formula:
Parameter Formula
System Dischargeable
4720 kWh
Energy@POC(with AUX)

2.2 PCS Calculation
Design principle:
Power Calculation: Nominal PCS Power Output ≥ Designed Apparent Power Output
Fuse Current Calculation: PCS Connection Current ≤ Device Permitted Current
Parameter Formula, Specification
Nominal PCS Power Output 2500 kVA (PCS)/ PCS running at 57% operation

3.2 BMS
3.2.1 BMU
The battery module management unit (BMU) monitors the voltage and temperature of the single
cell. Meanwhile, it provides thermal management and passive balancing features. The Battery
Module Management Unit (BMU) monitors the voltage and temperature of a single cell and provides
thermal management and passive balancing functions. As a slave control unit, the BMUs can
flexibly exchange information with the main control unit——Battery Cluster management Unit
(BCU) through daisy chain communication.

3.2.2 BCU
The BCU is mainly to collect the operation information of batteries in the whole rack like voltage
and current, alarms and protects the abnormality of the packs; it can protect the battery pack
according to the safety requirement and ensure the safe and stable operation of the BESS. If
abnormal faults such as serious overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent short circuit), leakage
(insulation) and others occur, the BCU controls the disconnection of the entire group to prevent the
cells from being over- charging, over-discharging and over-current; at the same time, BCU-B30-201
makes comprehensive determination based on the various information and pick out the cells that
need to take maintenance measures.

3.2.3 BAU
Based on the real-time cell data uploaded by ESBCM and ESBMM, the BAU management server
conducts numerical calculation, performance analysis, alarm processing, and record storage. In
addition, it can realize linkage control with PCS host, BESS dispatching monitoring system, etc.
According to the output power requirements and the SOC of cells, it can optimize the load control
strategy to pursue that the total lifetime of each pack tends to be consistent.
