Varian Specs

The Varian Trilogy installation specifications outline the necessary room dimensions, radiation shielding, power and cooling requirements, and IT infrastructure for effective operation. Key features include energy modes of 6 MV, 10 MV, and 15 MV, as well as high-definition MLC and 360° gantry rotation. The installation process involves site planning, construction, equipment assembly, commissioning, and regulatory approval.

Varian Trilogy Installation Specifications

1. Room & Space Requirements

Treatment Room Size: Minimum ~5.5m x 5.5m (18 ft x 18 ft) (larger
recommended for workflow efficiency).
Ceiling Height: Minimum ~3.05m (10 ft) (higher may be needed for certain
configurations).
Floor Load Capacity: Must support ≥ 6,000 kg (13,200 lbs) due to the
weight of the gantry, couch, and shielding.
Doorway Access: Large enough for equipment delivery (often requires
temporary removal of doors or walls).

2. Radiation Shielding Requirements

Primary Barriers: Typically concrete walls ≥ 1.5m (5 ft) thick (varies
based on energy and workload).
Secondary Barriers: ≥ 1m (3.3 ft) concrete for scatter radiation.
Maze Design: Required for neutron shielding if operating at ≥ 10 MV.
Door Shielding: Lead-lined or borated polyethylene for neutron protection.

3. Power & Electrical Requirements

Voltage: 480V, 3-phase (varies by region).
Power Consumption: ~80–100 kVA (depends on configuration).
Stable Power Supply: Requires voltage regulation (±1%) to prevent beam
instability.
Grounding: Low-impedance grounding to prevent interference.

4. Cooling & HVAC Requirements

Water Cooling: Chilled water system (if applicable) with ~5–10 GPM flow
rate.
Room Temperature: Maintained at 20–24°C (68–75°F) for system stability.
Humidity Control: 30–70% RH (non-condensing).

5. Networking & IT Infrastructure

DICOM Compliance: Required for integration with ARIA® Oncology
Information System (OIS).
Network Ports: Gigabit Ethernet for imaging and data transfer.
Data Storage: High-capacity storage for CBCT, kV/MV imaging, and
treatment plans.

6. Additional Considerations
Laser Alignment System: Required for patient positioning.
Floor Markings: For isocenter alignment.
Ventilation: Proper exhaust for ozone (if high-energy modes used).
