Removing and installing the cylinder head


(Fastening parts)

Conventional tools:
● – Safety information / User information
– Hexalobular wrench socket 01899060
E14
– Rotation angle disc 01899093 For the tightening procedure according to
torque using a torque wrench, a maximum
variation of the tightening torque of +/- 10%
is permissible.

Removing the cylinder head


1 Cylinder head screw
2 Cylinder head gasket
3 Cylinder head gasket
4 Cylinder head gasket
5 Cylinder head screw
6 Clamping bush

● Remove the rail.


● Remove fuel lines.

● Remove the thermostat housing.

● Remove charge air pipe.

● Remove the exhaust pipe.

● Remove valve control.
● Remove push rods.

● Unscrew pressure piece.


Module 19
● Loosen screws in specified order.
A = Exhaust side

● Unscrew cylinder head screws with hexalobular


wrench socket E14.
Note different screw lengths.

● Attach crane to transport straps.


● Lift the cylinder head with the crane.
ATTENTION
Do not place the cylinder head on the sealing
surface.
● Remove cylinder head gasket (1).
● Remove clamping bushes (2).

Mounting the cylinder head


● Clean sealing surfaces.
● Select cylinder head gasket in accordance with the
largest measured piston protrusion.
● Measure piston protrusion.

The sealing surfaces must be dry, free of


grease and free of dirt.

● Insert clamping bushes (1).


● Mount cylinder head gasket (2).
Make sure that the installation position of the
gasket is correct.

● Attach crane to transport straps.


● Lift the cylinder head with the crane.
● Place cylinder head carefully on the crankcase.

ATTENTION
Observe the spare parts documentation.
Screws may be reused a maximum of 3 times
with written proof.
A = Exhaust side
Note different screw lengths.
Short cylinder head screws shaded grey in
image.
● Oil the cylinder head screws slightly.
● Screw on cylinder head screws.
● Detach crane from transport straps.

A = Exhaust side

● Tighten all cylinder head screws according to the


tightening sequence.
– Stage 1:
Stage 1: 40 Nm
Stage 2: 70 Nm

– Long cylinder head screws
Stage 3: 150°
– Short cylinder head screws
