Monthly Bulletin On Foreign Trade Statistics-Aug 2024
As per the Provisional Estimates, India’s merchandise export during April-July 2024-25 amounted to US$
143,968 million as compared to US$ 138,387 million during April-July 2023-24, reflecting a positive growth
of 4.03%.
As per the Provisional Estimates, the top ten principal commodities of export during April-July 2024-25
constituting 45.60% of India’s total export, along with percentage share and major destinations are:
As per the Final Estimates at ITC-HS 8-digit level, India’s export of Automotive Diesel Fuel, Not
Containing Biodiesel, Conforming To Standard Is 1460 (ITC-HS 27101944) experienced a decreased
by 26.11% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, it registered a positive
growth of 12.42% over April-July, 2023-24. Netherland is the most dominant market for the export
of the product.
India’s overall export of Smartphone (ITC-HS 85171300) in the financial year 2023-24 were worth
US$ 15,573 million, which is 42.15% more than 2022-23. The export of the product during April-
July, 2024-25 demonstrated a significant positive growth of 38.04% over April-July, 2023-24. The
USA emerged as the leading export destination for India’s Smartphone exports, followed by
Netherland and the UAE.
India’s export of Other Medicine Put Up For Retail Sale N.E.S (ITC-HS 30049099) exhibited an
increase of 12.64% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, it registered
a positive growth of 17.18% over the same period in 2023-24. USA continues to be the dominant
export destination for this product, followed by UK and South Africa.
India’s export of Basmati Rice (ITC-HS 10063020) witnessed a significant rise of 22.05% in 2023-
24 compared to the previous year 2022-23. The overall exports of the product during April-July,
2024-25 registered a positive growth of 14.82% over the corresponding period in 2023-24. Saudi Arab
is the leading export destination for the product, followed by Iran and Iraq.
India’s import of Petroleum crude (ITC-HS 27090010) registered a decline by 13.71 % during 2023-
24 over the year 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, it marked an increase of 20.70% over April-
July, 2023-24. Russia is the main source of Petroleum Crude imports followed by Iraq and Saudi
Arab.
India’s import of Other Non-Monetary Unwrought Forms Of Gold (ITC-HS 71081200) increased by
30.88% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, the import of the product
marked a decrease of 4.74 % over April-July, 2023-24. Switzerland is the most dominant source of
import of the product during the current period. Among the top 10 import sources, the imports of the
product from Switzerland, Colombia, USA, Uganda, Bolivia and Australia declined significantly
during April-July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July, 2023-24.
India’s import of Steam Coal (ITC-HS 27011920) decreased by 25.51% during 2023-24 over the year
2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, import of the product witnessed a significant decrease by
13.62% over April-July, 2023-24. Indonesia is the most dominant source of import of the product
during the current period. The import of the product from all the top 10 sources except Singapore,
Colombia, and UAE exhibited a noticeable fall during April-July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July,
2023-24.
India’s import of Coking Coal (ITC-HS 27011910) decreased by 17.22% during 2023-24 over the
year 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-25, the imports of the product declined by 11.04% over April-
July, 2023-24. Australia is the main import source of the product followed by USA. Import of the
product from all top 10 sources except USA, Singapore, Mozambique, U Arab Emts, and Colombia
have shown negative growth during April-July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July, 2023-24.
India’s overall export to USA recorded a negative growth of 1.31% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-
23. During April-July, 2024-25, it registered positive growth of 9.08% over the corresponding period
of the previous year. However, among the top 15 export items, the export of Smartphones, Other
Medcne Put Up For Retail Sale N.E.S, Other Anticancer Drugs, Motor Gasoline Conforming To
Standard Is 2796, and Turbo-Jets Of A Thrust>25 Kn witnessed a substantial positive growth during
the current period.
India’s overall export to United Arab Emirates has increased by 12.71% during 2023-24 over 2022-
23. During April-July, 2024-25, exports to the UAE experienced an increase of 12.60% over April-
July, 2023-24. Motor Gasoline Conforming To Standard Is 2796 has emerged as the main item of
export to UAE during the current period.
India’s overall export to China PRP increased by 8.84% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23. During
April-July, 2024-25, exports to China PRP saw a decrease of 4.64% over the period April-July, 2023-
24. Total share of the export of the top 15 products to China PRP accounted for 50.46% in April-July,
2024-25. The main item of India’s export to China during April-July, 2024-25 is 55% Fe Or More But
Below 58% Fe, followed by Light Naphtha.
India’s overall import from China P RP increased by 3.28% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. During
April-July, 2024-25, imports from China PRP recorded a rise of 9.65% over April-July, 2023-24. The
share of top 15 imports increased from 22.10% in April-July, 2023-24 to 26.40% during April-July,
2024-25.
India’s overall import from UAE decreased by 9.78% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. During April-
July, 2024-25, imports from UAE increased by 47.05% over April-July, 2023-24. Petroleum Crude is
the most dominant product imported from UAE during the current period.
India’s overall import from USA decreased by 17.04% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. During April-
July, 2024-25, imports from the USA recorded a rise of 6.52% over April-July, 2023-24. Petroleum
crude has emerged as the most dominant product sourced from the USA during the current period. The
share of top 15 product imports in India’s overall imports from the USA have increased from 50.04%
in April-July, 2023-24 to 57.41% in April-July, 2024-25.
Among the States, Gujarat (29.65%), Maharashtra (14.65%) and Tamil Nadu (11.07%) have
registered the largest share in the exports during April-July, 2024-25. The States of Gujarat and Tamil
Nadu registered positive growth rates of 0.43%, and 14.06% respectively whereas Maharashtra
recorded negative growth of 4.14% in exports during April-July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July,
2023-24.
All States/UTs except Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Bihar,
Punjab, Haryana, Puducherry, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand,
Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Ladakh, have shown positive growth in the exports during April-
July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July, 2023-24.
During April-July 2024, Jamnagar district has the highest share of 12.33% followed by Kanchipuram
(4.83%) and Pune (3.08%) in India’s total export.

All these data are provisional and are dynamically revised till it is finalised on the basis of late receipt of
data. This Report contains analysis of these three categories of latest available data.
FETERS are used as input in compilation of balance of payments (BOP) for India and released by Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) within 30 days. The foreign trade in Services data are compiled from these monthly
RBI releases.
The Quick Estimates of Merchandise Foreign Trade are grouped into 30 major commodities.
In July 2024, India’s merchandise export was US$ 33,981 million as compared to US$ 34,490 million in
July 2023, registering a negative growth of 1.47%. In July 2024, India’s merchandise import was US$
57,478 million as compared to US$ 53,486 million in July 2023, registering a positive growth of 7.46%.
Figure 1 depicts the merchandise trade performance for the period April-July, 2024-25, over the
corresponding period of the previous year. India’s merchandise export was US$ 144,123 million during
April-July, 2024-25 as compared to US$ 138,387 million during the period April-July, 2023-24, registering
a positive growth of 4.15%. India’s merchandise imports during April-July, 2024-25 was US$ 229,699
million as compared to US$ 213,533 million in April-July, 2023-24, registering a positive growth of
7.57%.

releases of RBI is given in Table 3. The trend of services export, import and trade balance over the months
of Aug, 2023 to July, 2024 is depicted in Figure 4.

Figure 5 depicts the overall trade performance for the period April-July, 2024-25 over the corresponding
period of the previous year. It shows that total value of export for April-July, 2024-25 was US$ 263,617
million as compared to US$ 245,184 million in April-July, 2023-24, registering positive growth of 7.52%.
The total value of import in April-July, 2024-25 was US$ 293,998 million as compared to US$ 272,724
million in April-July, 2023-24, registering a positive growth of 7.80%.

month-wise quick estimate of import for 30 major commodities since Aug, 2023 to July, 2024 is given in
Table 8. The import trend of 10 major commodities for last 12 months is depicted in Figure 8.

During April-July, 2024-25 the highest export of US$ 25,879.55 million was recorded in Petroleum
Products which constitute the largest share of 17.98% in India’s total export. The top ten principal
commodities of export during April-July, 2024-25 along with percentage share are, (i) Petroleum Products
(17.98%),(ii) Drug Formulations, Biological (5.24%), (iii) Telecom Instruments (4.87%), (iv) Pearl
Precious, Semiprecious Stones (3.73%), (v)Electric Machinery and Equipment (3.15%), (vi) Gold and
Other Precious Metal Jewellery (2.30%), (vii) Products of Iron and Steel (2.16%), (viii) Iron and Steel
(2.14%), (ix) Rmg Cotton Incl Accessories (2.07%), and (x)Motor Vehicle/Cars (1.97%), and these top 10
principal commodities together accounted for about 45.60% of India’s total export. The value of export of
top 40 principal commodities along with the percentage change is given at Table 9.
Figure 9 depicts the percentage change in top ten principal commodities during April-July, 2024-25 as
compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. It shows that the highest growth of 36.22%
registered in export of Telecom Instruments followed by Electric Machinery and Equipment (14.48%)
among the top ten principal commodities. All top ten principal commodities except Pearl, Precs, Semiprecs
Stones, Iron & Steel and Products of Iron & Steel shows positive growth during April-July, 2024-25 as
compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The value of India’s export to various Regions during April-July, 2024-25 along with percentage change
is given at Table 13. The percentage share of various Regions in India’s total export during the period of
April-July, 2024-25 is given in Figure 10. It shows that Asia Region constitutes the highest share of 39.18%
in India’s total export followed by America Region with 24.81% during April-July, 2024-25.

The detailed profile of export to Asia Region is given in the following Table. It reveals that the highest
export of US$ 17,793.64 million was recorded to Western Asia-GCC Asia during April-July, 2024-25 and
it constitutes the share of 12.36% followed by ASEAN which constitutes the 9.51% in India’s total export.

the period of April-July, 2023-24. It shows that the highest positive growth of 38.15% was registered in
export to the Netherland followed by Singapore (24.02%) during April-July, 2024-25. Export to other
countries except China P Rp among top 10 destinations registered a positive growth during the current
period.

percentage share:
The value of India’s import from various Regions during April-July, 2024-25 along with percentage change
is given in Table 14.The percentage share of various Regions in India’s total import during the period of
April-July, 2024-25 is depicted at Figure 14. It shows that the Asia Region constitutes the highest share of
60.98% in India’s total import followed by Europe with 12.14% during April-July, 2024-25.

The detailed profile of import from Asia Region is given in the following Table. It reveals that the highest
import of US$ 57,352.69 million was recorded from NE Asia during April-July, 2024-25 and it constitutes
the share of 24.83 % in India’s total import.
Figure 15 shows the comparative picture of import from various Regions during April-July, 2024-25 as
compared to the corresponding period of previous year. It shows that import from all regions witnessed
positive growth. The highest increase of 20.98% was observed in import from CIS & Baltics during April-
July, 2024-25 over the corresponding period of previous year.

During April-July, 2024-25, the highest import of US$ 35,852.19 million was recorded from China PRp
which constitutes the largest share of 15.52% in India’s total import. The top ten sources of import during
April-July, 2024-25 along with percentage share are (i) China PRP (15.52%),(ii) Russia (10.30%),
(iii)UAE(8.52%), (iv)USA (6.60%),(v) Iraq (4.38%), (vi) Saudi Arab (4.12%),(vii) Indonesia (3.73%),
(viii) Korea Rp (2.97%), (ix) Singapore (2.89%), and (x) Japan (2.57%), and these top ten sources together
accounted for about 61.59% share in India’s total import. The value of import from top 40 sources along
with percentage change is given at Table 12.
Figure 16 depicts the comparative picture of import from top 10 sources during April-July, 2024-25 over
the period of April-July, 2023-24.

India’s export of the product decreased by 26.11% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23. During April-
July, 2024-25, it registered a positive growth of 12.42% over April-July, 2023-24. Netherland is the most
dominant market for the export of the product. The export to all top 10 destinations, all except Australia
has witnessed positive growth during April-July, 2024-25 as compared to April-July, 2023-24.

2024-25, exports to the UAE experienced an increase of 12.60% over April-July, 2023-24. The share of

India’s overall export to UK increased by 13.30% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-

Kerosene Type Conforming To Standard Is 1571 with a positive growth of 59.84% has emerged as the
leading export item to the UK during the period April-July, 2024-25.
India’s overall export to China P Rp recorded an increase of 8.84% during 2023-24 over the year 2022-23.
During April-July, 2024-25, exports to China P RP saw a decrease of 4.64% compared to April-July, 2023-

April-July, 2024-25 India’s overall exports to South Africa exhibited a rise of 2.49% over April-July, 2023-24.

Africa during April-July, 2024-25. The share of top 15 exports has increased from 68.68 % in April-July, 2023-
24 to 70.62 % in April-July, 2024-25.
India’s overall import from China P RP increased by 3.28% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. Overall imports
from China P RP exhibited a rise of 9.65% and imports of the top 15 commodities registered a rise of 31.01%
India's overall import from Russia has exhibited a considerable increase of 32.34% during the fiscal year
2023-24 in comparison to 2022-23. In the period of April-July, 2024-25, imports from Russia continued to
surge, showing a growth of 20.32% compared to the corresponding period of April-July, 2023-24.
Petroleum Crude, with a significant positive growth of 26.56%, stands out as the major item of import from
Russia during April-July, 2024-25. The import share of top 15 items sourced from Russia, has gone up
from 94.53% in April 2023-24 to 97.29% in April 2024-25.

India’s overall import from Iraq decreased by 12.87% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. However, during
April-July, 2024-25, imports from Iraq rose by 19.41% over the corresponding period in 2023-24.
Petroleum Crude is the main item imported from Iraq and its import has seen a rise of 19.90% during April-
July, 2024-25, over the same period in the previous year.

India's overall import from Saudi Arabia has shown a significant decrease of 25.26% during the fiscal year 2023-
24 compared to 2022-23. And during April-July, 2024-25, imports from Saudi Arabia recorded a decline of
5.10% compared to the corresponding period of April-July, 2023-24. Petroleum crude remains the most dominant
product imported from Saudi Arabia during the current period. The share of the top 15 import items has decreased
from 92.17% in April-July 2023-24 to 91.66% in April-July, 2024-25.
India's overall import from Indonesia witnessed a decrease of 18.77% during the fiscal year 2023-24 compared
to 2022-23. However, there was an increase of 17.18% in imports from Indonesia during the period of April-
July, 2024-25 compared to the corresponding period of April-July, 2023-24. Steam Coal stands out as the most
dominant product imported from Indonesia during the current period.
India's overall imports from Korea Rp recorded decrease of 0.43% during the fiscal year 2023-24 compared to
2022-23. During April-July 2024-25, imports from Korea experienced an increase of 5.17% compared to the
same period in 2023-24. Monolithic Integrated Circuits - Digital stands as the main item of import from Korea
Rp, followed by Base Oil during the current period. The share of the top 15 imports to India from Korea Rp
has seen a significant increase, rising from 34.27% in April-July, 2023-24 to 37.08% in April-July, 2024-25.
India's overall import from Singapore decreased by 10.15% during 2023-24 compared to 2022-23. Imports
from Singapore experienced negative growth of 0.10% during April-July, 2024-25 compared to the same period
in 2023-24. Coking Coal is the major imported item from Singapore, and its import has recorded a rise of 8.53%
during April-July, 2024-25, compared to the corresponding period in April-July, 2023-24. The share of the top
15 product imports in India’s overall imports from Singapore has increased from 35.78% in April-July 2023-
24 to 41.07% in April-July, 2024-25.
India’s overall import from Japan increased by 7.28% during 2023-24 over 2022-23. During April-July, 2024-
25, imports from Japan experienced a decline of 1.30% over April-July, 2023-24. The leading product imported
from Japan during the current period is Cathods And Sectns Of Cathods Of Refind Cop. The share of the top
15 import items increased from 35.68% in April-July 2023-24 to 39.38% in April-July, 2024-25.

at Table 19, and State-wise export in terms of percentage change for last two years and the current year is
given at Table 20.
Figure 17 shows the State-wise percentage share of 13 major States (with contribution of more than 1%
share) and unspecified sources (11.83%) in India’s total merchandise export in April-July, 2024-25. It
reflects that Gujarat has the highest share of 29.65% followed by Maharashtra (14.65%) and Tamil Nadu
(11.07 %) in April-July, 2024-25. Top 13 States contribute about 85.44% of total exports. The remaining
States have fewer shares (less than 1%) in India’s total export.

Figure 19 shows District-wise percentage share of top 10 Districts in India’s total merchandise export
during April-July, 2024-25. It reflects that Jamnagar district has the highest share of 12.33% followed by
Kanchipuram (4.83%), Pune (3.08%) and Mumbai (2.88%) during April-July, 2024-25. Top 10 Districts
contributed about 37.46 % of total exports during the current period.
