SESSIONS FOR THE YOUTH

TEXT: PROVERBS 30:11-17

BREAK OUT SESSION #1

A. DEVELOPING YOUR WHOLE SELF (Lk 2:52)
1. INTELLECTUAL – Bible learning and general education
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
 First of all, our priority is to grow in our knowledge of the Bible.
 Secondly, we prioritize our growth in wisdom (application).
 Third, we must develop love for learning—skills, information and character.
 Invest in yourself by choosing to grow in learning through enrolling for new lessons,
tutorials, workshop, spending time in reading good books, trying to really absorb
whatever lesson you have (take notes, watch TedED, use YT tutorials).
2. PHYSICAL – By healthy eating and exercise for growth
 Sugar addiction: Research shows that people who drink sugar-sweetened beverages tend to weigh
more -- and be at higher risk for type 2 diabetes -- than those who don't. One study even found that
people who added more sugar to their diet gained about 1.7 pounds in less than 2 months. i
 What’s the AHA’s recommendation on added sugar? (American Heart Association)
Men should consume no more than 9 teaspoons (36 grams or 150 calories) of added sugar per day.
Women should consume no more than 6 teaspoons (25 grams or 100 calories) per day.
 Ephesians 5:18-20
“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one
another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your
heart, giving thanks always and for everything to Godthe Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
 I Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life
that now is, and of that which is to come.
 Start at 1%- You don’t have to go immediately at the gym. Start at 1%, set your timer for 10minutes
or 20minutes. Small habits make a big difference. The difference a tiny improvement can make over
time is astounding. Here's how the math works out: if you can get 1 percent better each day for
one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you're done. (by James Clear-
Atomic Habits)
3. SPIRITUAL – Pleasing to God – living by faith
John 12:24-25 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it
abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he
that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
 There are two choices on this life: Please God or please self. This determines the
outcome of our decisions.
 Choose to do God’s will. What God wills, God will do. (studies, love life, work,
travel)
“Lahat ng bagay ay sa kalooban ng Diyos.”
4. SOCIAL – Being a blessing to others – hard working
 Galatians 6:1-Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual,
restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be
tempted.
Meekness prevents hurt or further problem.
V.10- As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto
them who are of the household of faith.
Every opportunity you have to do good, DO IT! (coffee dates, give food, send
an encouraging note, send helpful links/tips, connect people to those who can help,
express appreciation, praise good works)
BREAK OUT SESSION #2

B. DOING DUTIES TO PARENTS

1. Obey your parents- Honor your parents
 Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
 Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing
unto the Lord.
 When you choose to honor/ obey your parents, you choose to obey/honor the
Lord for they are God-given authorities in your life. To protect & to guide you.
They are not perfect, but they are held accountable as your authorities.
 Romans 13: 1- Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is
no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
 Who are your authorities? Parents, pastors, teachers, government officials
(police, mayor, tanod)
 The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what
God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
 Our parents are mere humans—weak and imperfect. But our role as the
Bible commanded is obey them, not criticize or disrespect them.
 Application: po at opo, magbless, appreciate them, post them, buy coffee
2. Support your parents (Mk 7:11-12; 1 Tim 5:4)
 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at
home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God-
The
 Pray for your parents
 Ask the Holy Spirit to help you speak well of them.
 Ask for their advice/ wisdom regarding decision-making/ consider it
 Provide financial support/ help in any way/ emotional support/ listen to them/ let them
emote

BREAK OUT SESSION #3

C. BUILDING YOUR CHARACTER AT HOME
1. Obedience – It is the Foundation of your character
 “Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus.” When we
obey our parents, we obey our Lord. Likewise, when we disobey our parents,
it’s a deliberate disobedience to our Lord.
a. Obey without question
b. Obey without argument
c. Obey without exceptions
d. Obey in the Lord

2. Industriousness - Children must learn to work at home (2 Thess 3:10)

 Proverbs 12:11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread..”
 The principal cause of boredom is the hatred of work.- E.Elliot
Our Lord and Savior worked. There is little doubt that He served in the carpenter
shop under the instruction of His earthly father Joseph, putting in long hours, learning skill,
care, responsibility, and above all, the glory of work as a gift to glorify His heavenly
Father.

3. Personal cleanliness - Children must learn good habits of joyfulness and usefulness.
 Your outward appearance is a reflection of your home.
 Example: Student- clothes all crinkled, hair is a mess—no mother, absent
father.
 Simple yet clean “But godliness with contentment is great gain. I Tim. 6:6
 Long/short hair/ find the best shape for your face/
 Look for color and clothes that will reflect beauty and grace. (sexiness,
jejemoness)
“Men were created to reflect the strength, love, and self-sacrifice of Christ. Women
were created to reflect the responsiveness, grace, and beauty of the bride
He redeemed.” -N.L. Demoss
4. Stewardship - Training in the right use of money
a. To earn money
 Proverbs 14: 23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury/ poverty.”
 10 % tithes, 20% savings 70%- expenses
b. To spend money wisely- pack your lunch, drink water (not sweet drinks), eat out (for
discipleship), find the best deal, buy things that you will be using multiple times, second-hand but
brand new
c. To save money (Prov 6:6-8)
 “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no
guide, overseer, or ruler. Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food
in the harvest.”
d. To give money- separate your tithes/ offering asap/ to your family only
- Give not borrow/ be willing to lend what you’re willing to give
5. Courtesy - Children must learn courtesy at home
- You are the reflection of your parents. If you don’t want to humiliate you parents,
practice courtesy. Learn to greet; be polite and exhibit kindness/ meekness at all times.
 I Peter 4: 4 “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in
the sight of God of great price.” This is the most beautiful accessory that
we can wear.
6. Peacemaker - live peaceably with others
 Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
a. Do not allow fighting at home
b. Respect another’s possession and do not take what is not yours.
c. Share your property. Do not be selfish
d. Learn to forgive and learn to ask forgiveness (Prov 28:13)

“When we forgive someone, we take our hand off the rope. But if we’ve been
tugging at our grievances for a long time, we mustn’t be surprised when the old angry
thoughts keep coming up for a while.” -Corrie Ten Boom

Conclusion: There’s always need for God in every aspect of our lives. We are
dependent on Him to transform us into obedient children, loving siblings,
better students and diligent workers. The main key is to look to God for grace
to enable us be who He wants us to be and do what He wants us to do. By His
grace and for His glory!
