downwards.
6.1.7 Replace the negative bridle 4402, fitting it by
its screw.
6.1.8 Close the back of the case. -

f~ 6.2 Checking and adjusting the rate

~

The instantaneous rate should be checked and ad-

justed at a stabilized voltage of 1.55 V by means of
one of the watch-timers mentioned under 5.1.4.
Before the rate is measured, the movement must
have been working for 30 minutes at least (after
cleaning or a change of battery, for example).
The instantaneous rate should be between -0.05
und + 0.30 s/d at a temperature of 20 to 25 ° C (68 to
77 ° F). There is no position error. Only variations up
to ±5 s/d can be corrected. If this value is exceed-
ed, it is necessary to replace the complete move-
ment or electronic module.
To make the correction, turn the trimmer by means
of .. an insulated screwdriver (see 5.1.2). As the
adjustment range is not linear, the trimmer must be
turned more or less, according to the initial position
of the adjusting screw.
Attention: The trimmer is a sensitive element and must be
handled very carefully. The pressure exerted on the screw
must in any case exceed 100 grams. The trimmer should
never be touched with the fingers.

9
6.3 Replacing the hand-setting stem
6.3.1 To remove the stem:
- Press the setting-lever axle by means of a
screwdriver of 0.90 mm diameter and
extract the stem. Avoid using pointed tools,
so that the setting lever is not moved
further than is necessary for extracting the
stem .
6.3.2 To refit the stem:
- Insert the stem and push it home.

6.4 Replacing the glass

Detailed indications concerning replacing of glas-
ses are given in our file "Technical Information
No. 1 " ,index 2 "Exterior" .

7. Standard excharlge
of movements
This consists in replacing the movement of the watch
which needs to be repaired by a reconditioned standard
exchange movement. Reconditioning is made according
to the procedure described in section 8. It is advisable to
use non- magnetic tweezers, because the watches can not "'-
be demagnetized in any case. Take care, too , to avoid
touching the trimmer.

1.1 Uncasing
Detailed indications concerning unc'!sing are given
in our file "Technical Information No. 1 ", index
no. 2 "Exterior".

1.2 Removing hands and dial

The dial is held in position by two bolts which grip
the dial feet. Shift the two bolts aside by means of a
screwdriver. Remove the dial and then push the
bolts back into their initial position.
Take care not to damage the coil when pushing
back the bolt located under the magnetic screen.

7.3 Exchange the movement

Before fitting the "standard-exchange" movement,
check its rate by means of a watch-timer, as indi-
cated in 6.2.
N.B.: The hour wheel 255 must be fitted with a washer.

10
7.4 Fitting the dial
7.4.1 Move the bolts aside.
'\ 7.4.2 Fit the dial.
7.4.3 Push the bolts back.
Take care not to damage the coil when pushing
back the bolt located under the magnetic screen.

7.5 Fitting the hands

In order to avoid shifting of the jewel or deformation
of the plate, fitting the hands must be made with a
maximum pressure of 1.400 grams.
1. Place the movement upon the movementholder.
Make sure that t he adjustable stop supports the
upper bridge.
2. Fit the hour and minute hands.
3. Fit the second hand.
When fitti ng the hands, it is necessary t o make sure
that date indication changes at midnight.
I(~ ,)•/
7.6 Casing up
Detailed indications about casing are given in our
file "Technical Information No. 1", index No. 2 " Ex-
terior". When fitting water-resistant cases, make
sure that the crown, the glass and the joints are in
such a state that adequate water-resistance is en-
sured .

7.7 Checking and adjusting the rate

See 6.2.

7.8 Water-resistance test

Detailed indications concerning the water-resis-
tance test are given in our file "Technical Informa-
tion No. 1 " , index No. 1 " General", part 1.5 " Water-

10. Checking of batteries
').?
10.1 Stocking
It is advisable to keep batteries at a temperature of
15 to 25 ° C, with a humidity rate below 60%. The
maximum period for stocking is two years.
It is not indicated to use a cold room for stocking
electronic movements or watches with their bat-
teries fitted, because the batteries are likely to be
· damaged by internal crystallization if the tempera-
ture is too low.

10.2 Handling
Never handle batteries with metal tweezers, which
would have the effect of short-circuiting them . It is
advisable to check batteries before use, according
to the following procedure, which consists of two
parts:
10.2.1 Electrical checking.
10.2.2 Checking of appearance.
Batteries which are not in perfect order should not
be used.

1o.3 Electrical checking

+ 1500 Q
±2%
?=10 kQ

During a minimum possible time, cause the battery

to discharge across a resistance of 500 ohms
(±2% max.) to whose terminals is connected a volt-
meter of sufficient accuracy (±1%) and internal
resistance (?=10 kOhm/V, see diagram). Care
should be taken to see that the contacts between
the various elements, particularly those on the bat-
tery, are correctly made.
One second at the most after the battery has been
connected to the measuring circuit, the voltage
should not be below 1.40 V. This measurement does
not correspond to the real internal resistance, but
includes phenomena of electrode polarization, due
to the high current.
This test is subject to the following conditio~s:

1. It applies only to unused batteries which have

been in stock for less than two years.
2. If the test has to be repeated, it is necessary to
wait for at least 3 hours after the . first test.
Nevertheless, the measurement should be
repeated only when it is absolutely necessary.
3. The tests should be carried out at room tempera-
ture (20 to 25 ° C).

10.4 Checking of appearance

The shape of the battery must be correct. There
should be no sign of deformation (swelling), nor
should there be any white crystals or liquid near the
joint. If the battery is stained, wipe it with a clean
cloth (Selvyt). Never use a solvent.
