• On the other hand, engineering demands a personality in all dimensions

Objectives/Purpose of Induction Program
In its 49th meeting of the Council held on 14th March 2017, it approved a package of measures
for further improving the quality of technical education in the country.
This is articulated in the AICTE Model Curriculum 2018.
● Becoming familiar with the ethos and culture of the institution (based on
institutional culture and practices)
● Set a healthy daily routine, create bonding in batch as well as between faculty members
and students
● Exposure to a holistic vision of life, develop awareness, sensitivity and understanding of
the
Self-------Society---------Nation &Nature
● To facilitate them in creating new bonds with peers and seniors who accompany them
through their college life and beyond.
● Overcoming weaknesses in some essential professional skills – only for those who
need it (e.g. Mathematics, Language proficiency modules)
Universal Approach
All the SIP activities (modules) are based on generic and universal
principles
Local, regional, national and international examples are taken so
that students can relate them to their day to day life
For example, module 2 is about “physical health and related activities”. In this, we
will be talking about “holistic human health” which is generic and universal. To
exemplify this, we may take the example of Ayurved.
For example: We want to live with fulfilment as a society. This part is common,
universal. To exemplify this, we may expose students to traditional Indian culture and
philosophy as well as contemporary western culture and thoug
Universal Approach
In this way:
○ It will help in connecting the basic principles through specific examples
○ It will help the student to see and appreciate various cultures, to see the commonality
amongst them
○ It will help to evaluate any specific example, system or culture, with a view to fill the gaps,
rather than to criticise or reject it. Further, we can also be mutually enriching for other
cultures.

1. Universal Human Values (UHV-I)
● The goal is to help the student to see the need for developing a holistic
perspective of life (individual, family (inter-personal relationship), society
and nature/existence)
● It is expected to help in strengthening self-reflection, develop more
confidence and commitment to understand, learn and act accordingly
● It is conducted through discussion between the prepared UHV Faculty and
student
2. Physical Health
Objectives:
• To remain healthy and fit
• To have bonding and develop relationship with the students
•To get chance to come closer to them as a friend first and as a mentor later.
•Involving health centre staff, sports coaches, faculty, staff, student sports teams etc.

3. Familiarization to Dept./Branch & Innovations
•Defining Larger goal of institutions- must be defined in following sequence-
First, overall aim of the society and nation, then aim of education, aim of this category
of institution (say-technical) and
finally this particular institution
•Details of how it is planned to achieve the above goal through different disciplines of
education, research, development and practice, should be clearly mentioned.
•Students should be properly introduced to these and asked to relate to it and see
how they can contribute in this plan- above details, achievement to this
date, and contribution to the society.
3. Familiarization to Dept./Branch & Innovations
The Institute visits are aimed at familiarizing the new entrants with their new home
for upcoming 4-5 years - the institute and acquainting with the diverse learning
facilities various departments and schools provide.
Tackling the hype around Change of Discipline was also one of the motives. As the
student can make better decisions regarding Branch Change once they know what
kind of work goes on in various branches.
4. Visits to local Areas
To relate to the social environment of the educational institution as well as the area in
which it is situated, interaction with the people, place, history, politics…
•Understand how they manage their life- production, house, relationship, education-
transfer of skills
•Monuments of the city, near-by historic places and people (who have contributed to
the society meaningfully) should be visited and these should be properly explained by
a guide/mentor.
•They may be asked to reflect and plan about how they can contribute in this process.
Organizations serving in the society, doing some charitable work may also be visited.
•Understand the local problems further which will help to increase the innovative
thinking for the solution of those problems
5. Lecture by Emminent Persons: Worldview Sessions and Interactive
Talks
Objective
The sessions were aimed at making a niche in the young minds in various fields of
Academics, Career, Skill Development, Art and self management. Thus inducting a
holistic learning experience.
•People who are doing good work for society through science, technology, art, culture-
philosophy and its practice, civilisation etc.
•Priority to people who are practitioners of what they are working on.
•Entrepreneurs, self-employed and people serving the society,

6. Language Proficiency
Objectives
•To make student proficient in interpersonal communication and expression
•To create awareness about linguistic and thereafter NLP

• Regional, Sanskrit language may be developed in the students under this activity.
•Reviving our old texts

7. Literary Activities
• Objectives
o To develop the clarity of humanistic culture and its expression through literature
o Read two pieces of local, regional, national or international literature to help them
in understanding traditional and contemporary values and thought
• Classical Literature in
o Sanskrit Indian epics
o English Classics
o Regional languages Regional Literature
7. Literary Activities
• Science and technology in Ancient India and Its connection with modern
technology.
o Work on science-Mathematics, Chemistry, Astronomy
o Technology- metallurgy
o Systems of medicine- Ayurveda
o Architecture,
o Agriculture, Water conservation
o Manuscript logy
• Study Material
o 2 page & 10 page : Two and ten page documents will be of introductory nature and
will be asked to be read by all students.
o 100 pages. hundred page document will be in little detailed and provided to
interested students in that particular kind of literature.
8. Creative Practices :
Objective:
•To develop the clarity of humanistic culture and its creative expression through art
•To introduce art and philosophy behind it so that they can appreciate and enjoy it.
•To learn one of these activities depending upon their interest.
•To develop design thinking.
•To aware about the technology issues and opportunities in creative practices.
Different Dimensions:
•Sculpture- National, regional, local: different forms of S- clay, stone, metal, Pottery
•Paintings
•Classical music- vocal, instrumental- design of instrument- its science, manufacturing,
material used
•Dance- Indian Classical & European Classical
•Drama, Katha-naatak, nritya- natika, Palaa
Some of the groups already working on such issues may be contacted- e.g. SPIC-MACAY.
faculty, staff, former faculty, alumni and senior students having interest in this area as
well as artisans in the local area, region, state, nation, internationally
9. Extra-Curricular Activities in College/Informal Interaction with Student
Guides
This is a category under which things that are not placed in any of the above- may be
placed.
Some clubs and hobby group may be made for each of the above categories, so that
students may pursue it even after the induction (e.g. Shiksha-Sopan, Vivekanand
Samiti in IITK, Unnaat Bharat Abhiyan).
These groups must be supported by some interested teachers/mentors.
-celebrating culture functions- Pujas, Holi, Deepawali
This was a crucial element in the Induction Program.
This was the time when students get to clarify all their doubts by interacting with the
assigned Student Guides(their seniors) and know about their discipline.
The Interactions were organized in the Hostels of New Entrants.
Valedictory Ceremony
The Induction Program ended with a
Valedictory ceremony which included the
Introduction of SCS team followed by
cultural performances by artists from
Faculty of Performing Arts, BHU.

Student Activity Cell
•It will be a five tier structure in terms of cell, units, axis, dimensions & Clubs as shown in the
figure till dimensions. Details of the clubs will be based on local conditions.
•Director or Principle or Dean of Student affairs will be the Chairman of Student Activity Cell,
Induction unit will be managed by faculty members with the help of student volunteers.
•5 to 7 faculty members will be the members of
Induction unit. they will coordinate the induction
activities with the help of other faculty members and
student volunteers
•Fostering unit will largely be managed by students
with the help of one fostering unit faculty mentor.
Student will be coordinators for axis, dimensions and
clubs. Fostering unit will take support from induction
unit as and when required.
