The Bilaan or B’laan is an ethnolinguistic group that inhabits some parts of South Cotabato, North
Cotabato and Davao del Sur.
B’laan is a combination of two words, “bila” that means house and “an” that means people. They are
known for embroidery, brass ornament and beadwork that are integrated in their traditional clothing.
Takmun – sequin-line Capiz shell used to give a distinct design and color to their clothes.
Ikat – it is process of dyeing fabric from B’laan, Bagobos and T’boli where the yarns are tighly wrapped
with string and dyed before weaving.

The Bagobo are group of people that live in Davao. “Bago means new and obo means growth.
T’boli or tagabili to lowlanders are animist ethnic group inhabiting highlands areas in southwestern
Mindanao.
T’nalak – is woven from deep brown abaca treated in the ikat process to obtain intricate design.
- Mean wear t’nalak short, undershirt and t’nalak coat.
- Women wear wrap-around t’nalak skirts and blouses. Colors are red, brown and black
Manobo

The Manobos live in many provinces of Mindanao like Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, Davao regions, North
and South Cotabato and Saranggani Islands.
Manobo is the Hispanic form of Manuvu, which means people.
Mandaya
D. Traditional Clothing of Mandaya
Another ethnic group in southeastern Mindanao known for their colorful and beautiful jewelries and
clothing decorations.
The Mandaya are found throughout Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte, Mindanao. Their names
denotes the “first people upstream” and derived from man “first” and daya “upstream or upper portion
or a river”.

The word Maranao means “People of the Lake”. This is because many of them reside along the great
Lanao Lake.
Malong – is a traditional Filipino tube skirt that that is made of hand-woven or machine made
multicolored cotton cloth. It is attractive because of its bright colors and various designs like okir.
Kapa Malong or Sambisa Malong – is a traditional dance which demonstrated the various ways of
wearing malong and its uses.
