Method Statement- Fire Alarm Installation Works


1. Introduction:
The purpose of generating this method is to define the procedure stepwise to
implement the correct practices for installation works of fire alarm through the
guideline contained herein to ensure that the execution complies with the
requirements and serves the intended function to satisfactory level.
2. Applicable Project Specification:
 Section: 1 Division 26 Electrical Specifications
 Division: 1.2 Standard Specification
 Sub Division: 1.2.23 Section 269611 Fire Detection
3. Material Handling & Storage:
 All the material will be stored in the dry place.
 The containment for fire alarm system is being used wherever required
and near the fire alarm control panel where ever applicable.

4. Installation Work:
 Correct type of back boxes for all the outstations should be installed as per
approved shop drawings/material submittal. The mounting heights for the
junction boxes should be verified with approved shop drawing.
 All the approved shop drawings and schematic drawings should be
available with installation team.
 The required amount of cable should be transferred from stores to site
access point by pick-up and to the floor with wheelbarrow as required to
the work place.
 The correct size and length of the cable should be identified and cut to the
required length.
 All the cables should be clipped in surface or installed in concealed PVC
conduit or GI tray only.
 Proper identifications to be provided for loop in/loop out of fire alarm
cables.
 The earth cables to all the outstations to be properly terminated to avoid
any earth fault loop.
 The junction boxes and back boxes to the outstations such as smoke
detectors, manual call point, and modules should be installed as per the
approved shop drawings.
 Adequate additional cable lengths to be provided during cabling for the
detectors, which are coming in false ceiling.
 All the cables to be terminated in the outstations with proper screw driver
and as per the identifications provided in the cables. No joints are allowed
in between to outstations.
 All smoke detectors to have cover on it after installation and before
handing over to avoid physical damage or accumulation of dust with in the
smoke detector.
 All cables to be properly identified in Fire Alarm control panel before
termination.
 2 Core 1.5mm2 FP 200 cable to be used for cabling the initiating device
circuits to the panel, additional 2cx2.5mm2 FP200 cable is required for the
smoke detector with sounder base for the activation of the sounder units.
 The maximum spacing for smoke detector shall not exceed 30 feet (9m).
 Ladders and aluminium scaffolding to be used for installation work in LV
room & ATS room.

5.Testing & Commissioning:


 All inspection and testing for fire alarm system shall be carried out in
accordance with specifications. Works shall be carried out by the
experienced site team / specialist. Check for any damages or defects,
name plate details
 Check all devices installed as per the specifications and drawing
 Conduct visual inspection prior to testing
 Inspection shall be based on completed and approved drawings and
system documentation as per civil defense standards.
 Test audible appliances for the private operating mode according to
manufacturer’s written instructions.
 Test visible appliances for the public operating mode according to
manufacturer’s written instructions.
 Engage a factory authorized service representative to inspect, test,
and adjust components, assemblies and equipment installations, including
connections.
 Perform tests and inspections. After testing and commissioning
provide training demonstration to facility management team if required.
6. Equipment, Tools & Safety
Fork lifter & necessary arrangement in line with the manufacturer’s, recommenda-
tions and as required at site for fire alarm panel.
Portable hand tools
Spirit level/level threads
Cable stripper
Digital multimeter
Screw driver and connector
Drilling machine

The minimum Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on site is:


 Hard hat
 Safety boots o High-visibility vest
 Gloves
 Goggles/Glasses
 Safety Belts

7. Responsibilities:

 Project Manager: Project Manager is responsible for the approval of


Method Statement and provide necessary resources for the execution of works.

 Electrical Engineer: Engineer is responsible for the preparation of shop


drawing and verify installation.

 Supervisor: Supervisor is responsible for the execution of work and


implementation of the method statement.
