DETAILS OF THE ACTIVITY
(Brief Description / Objectives)
In line with the nationwide roll-out of the Enhanced k-12 Curriculum, a
strategic and collaborative initiative was undertaken between the National Educators
Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) and the Curriculum and Learning Management Division
(CLMD). This joint effort culminated in the successful conduct of the Regional Capability
Building of the Core Training faculty for the School-Based Training of Teachers on
the Revised K-12 Curriculum (Phase 2- Expansion Training Faculty -- an essential
milestone in the professional development of educators and school leaders across the
region. This comprehensive training endeavor aimed to equip educators with the skills,
resources, and strategies essential for successfully navigating the intricacies of the
Enhanced K-12 Curriculum for Grades 2,3,5, & 8. Ultimately fostering enriched teaching
practices and enhanced learning experiences for students.
Highlights of the activity/visit:

The intensive three-day training on the Enhanced K–12 Curriculum proved to be
an enriching and transformative professional development experience. From start to finish,
the training provided an in-depth understanding of the curriculum’s conceptual framework,
content domains, pedagogical approaches, and assessment strategies. It was thoughtfully
structured to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and competencies to
implement the revised curriculum with fidelity and contextual relevance.

Guided by a team of highly skilled and experienced learning facilitators, each


session was delivered with clarity, depth, and practical application. Their ability to connect
theory to practice created an engaging and dynamic learning environment. A standout
component of the training was the “Unpacking” session, which offered an invaluable
opportunity to closely examine the Performance Standards, Learning Standards, and
Learning Competencies for each quarter across learning areas. This process deepened our
understanding of the vertical and horizontal alignment of competencies, enabling us to

design instruction that is coherent, progressive, and learner-centered.


The training featured ten comprehensive and content-rich sessions, each designed to
address critical aspects of the curriculum:

Session 1: Policy Guidelines on the Implementation of the Revised K–12


Curriculum
This session provided an overview of the legal and policy bases underpinning the revised
curriculum. It clarified the rationale behind the curriculum enhancements and emphasized
the principles of inclusivity, flexibility, and relevance to 21st-century learning demands.

Session 2: General Shaping Paper of the Revised K–12 Curriculum


We explored the foundational document that guided the development and revision of the
K–12 Curriculum. This session highlighted the curriculum’s philosophical, pedagogical, and
sociocultural underpinnings, offering insight into its learner-centered orientation and
lifelong learning goals.

Session 3: Filipino Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


A detailed look into the Filipino curriculum revealed its emphasis on language
development, cultural identity, and critical thinking. We discussed effective strategies to
enhance language acquisition while integrating contextualized materials and
communicative teaching approaches.

Session 4: Mathematics Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


This session emphasized mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and conceptual
understanding. Facilitators showcased innovative teaching strategies that move beyond
rote learning toward inquiry-based and real-life application of mathematical concepts.

Session 5: Makabansa Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


The newly introduced Makabansa curriculum fosters patriotism, civic engagement, and
values formation. We examined how to design learning experiences that cultivate a strong
sense of national identity and active citizenship among learners.

Session 6: GMRC Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


We revisited the core values embedded in the Good Manners and Right Conduct
curriculum. Strategies to integrate character education into daily teaching practices were
discussed, emphasizing modeling, values integration, and reflective activities.

Session 7: Science Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


A focus on inquiry-based learning, scientific literacy, and the nature of science
characterized this session. Participants engaged in sample activities and pedagogies that
promote curiosity, experimentation, and evidence-based reasoning.

Session 8: English Curriculum – Content and Pedagogy


This session examined how to develop learners’ communicative competence across the
macro skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing. It also emphasized the
importance of differentiated instruction and formative assessment in language teaching.

Session 9: Assessment Matters


We were introduced to enhanced assessment frameworks aligned with the revised
curriculum. Topics included formative and summative assessment strategies, standards-
based grading, and the use of assessment data to inform instruction and support learner
progress.

Session 10: Demonstration Teaching


The training culminated in demonstration teaching, where participants were able to apply
their learnings in simulated classroom scenarios. This hands-on session allowed for the
practical integration of content and pedagogy, showcasing effective planning, delivery, and
assessment of instruction.

Ways Forward (Suggested actions to be taken after the activity/vis:

1. Ensure the wide-scale dissemination and localization of the Enhanced K-12 Curriculum,
trained participants shall organize and facilitate division level echo trainings.
2. Form school- or cluster-based Professional Learning Communities focused on curriculum
implementation, lesson planning, and instructional strategies under the Enhanced K-12
Curriculum framework.
