Class 8 Computer Chapter 1 Question Answers

A computer network is a group of autonomous computers interconnected for resource sharing, including data, software, and hardware. Key advantages of networking include speed, cost efficiency, and enhanced security, with applications in communication and resource sharing. Different types of networks include PAN, LAN, MAN, and WAN, with various topologies such as bus, ring, star, and mesh, and distinctions between client/server and peer-to-peer architectures.

Computer Network
Answer the following questions
1.What is computer network?
Networking refers to a group of autonomous computers interconnected to each other for
sharing of resources. The resources that they can share include data or information, software as
well as hardware.
2.Stae three advantages of using a network.
Speed, cost and security.
3.Give three applications of network.
Communication, sharing resources and sharing software.
4. Name the different types of network.
Personal area network (PAN)
Local area network (LAN)
Metropolitan area Network (MAN)
Wide area network (WAN)
5. State the difference between LAN and MAN.
LAN MAN
This type of network spans This type of network spans
over a small area usually over a larger area usually
within a room or building. within a city
LAN is used to connect Cable operators usually use
computers in a single MAN for transmission of TV
building like school, office channels within a city
etc.

6.State the difference between client/ server architecture and peer to peer architecture.
Client /server architecture Peer to peer architecture
It is a computing model in It is a commonly used
which the server hosts, computer networking
delivers and manages most of architecture in which each
the resources and services to workstation, or node has the
be consumed by the client same capabilities and
responsibilities.
7. State the difference between a hub and switch.
A switch is like a hub, but works slightly different way than the hub.. A hub simply
replicates the data that it receives from one port to all other ports .The intended /destination
computer receives the data, but the other computer reject it. The switch, on the other hand,
receive a data from a port and forwards it only to that computer for which it is intended by
looking at the MAC address of that machine.
8. State the application of a repeater.
For long distance transmission of data in a network, the transmitted signal may get
weakened after a certain distance. In such situation the repeaters are used to damplify the signal
which is being transmitted.
9. What is the bridge is used for?
In telecommunication network, a bridge is a product that connects a local area network to
another local area network that uses the same protocol.
10. What are the different types of topology in network?
Bus topology
Ring topology
Star or radial topology
Mesh topology
