Improve Plan 11 Geo

The document outlines a Complementary Activities Plan for 11th-grade Geometry students for the first and second terms of 2025. It includes various activities focused on counting techniques, polygon areas, circles, and volume of solids, along with practical exercises and a requirement for students to create a 3-minute explanatory video. The plan emphasizes understanding concepts, applying formulas, and preparing for assessments, with specific deadlines for submissions and presentations.

Complementary Activities Plan

First and Second Term 2025

Subject: GEOMETRY
Grade: ELEVENTH

Activity

Activity 1: Counting Techniques and Basic Probability

Objective: Understand the fundamental counting principles and apply them to solve
probability problems.
• Theoretical Review:
 Define factorial n! and explain its use in counting.
 Introduce combinations and permutations (normal, with repetition, and circular).
 Explain how these techniques are used in calculating the number of possible outcomes in
different scenarios.
• Practical Exercises (10 total):
 Solve problems involving factorials (e.g., arrangements of items).
 Calculate permutations with and without repetition.
 Calculate combinations in practical contexts (e.g., choosing teams, arranging books).
 Solve a circular permutation problem (e.g., arranging people around a table).
 Apply counting techniques to probability calculations (e.g., drawing cards from a deck,
choosing balls from a bag).
• Application and Support:
 Use Khan Academy and GeoGebra for interactive problems on combinations, permutations,
and factorials.
 Desmos can help visualize probability distributions based on different counting techniques.

Activity 2: Polygon and Composite Areas

Objective: To understand and apply the formulas to calculate the areas of different polygons
and composite areas.
Theoretical Review:
Explain the formulas for calculating the basic polygon areas (triangles, squares, rectangles,
parallelograms, trapezoids, pentagons and hexagons).
Introduce the concept of compound areas (add or subtract areas of basic polygons to form more
complex figures).
Practical Exercises:
❖ Provide a series of problems involving calculating the area of different polygons and
composite areas (5 problems).
❖ Exercises that combine several polygons to form a figure with shaded areas (5 problems)
❖ Find 5 common or shaded area problems that relate to real life and solve them.

Activity 3: Circles and Composite and Shaded Areas

Objective: To understand and apply formulas to calculate the areas of circles and composite
and shaded areas.
Theoretical Review:
Explain the formula for calculating the area of a circle (𝐴=𝜋𝑟2).
Introduce the concept of compound areas that include circles and circular segments.
Practical Exercises:
 Solve problems that involve calculating the area of circles and parts of circles (semicircles,
quarter circles) (3 problems with solution).
 Exercises that combine areas of circles with areas of polygons to form composite areas (3
problems with solution).
 Problems that include real life contexts (3 problems with solution).

Activity 4: Volume of Solids (Application of Formulas)

Objective: To understand and apply the formulas to calculate the volume of different solids.
Theoretical Review:
Explain the formulas for calculating the volume of basic solids (cubes, rectangular prisms,
cylinders, cones, spheres, pyramids).

Discussion on how to break down compound solids into basic solids to calculate their total
volume.
Practical Exercises:
❖ Solve problems involving calculating the volume of different solids (3 of each).
❖ Exercises that combine several basic solids to form compound solids (3 of each).
❖ Use these concepts to generate 3 everyday problems of real-life whit compound volume (3
of each)
Activity 5:
As part of the process of reinforcing the mathematical concepts we have worked on so far, I am asking
you to create a 3-minute explanatory video, in which you will clearly and understandably explain the
key elements covered in the activities.

The goal of this video is to strengthen your conceptual understanding and communication skills, helping
you identify and explain the fundamental ideas we have explored in class. Please make sure to:

❖ Use clear language appropriate to your grade level.

❖ Include examples created by you.
❖ Use diagrams, drawings, graphs, or digital resources if needed.
❖ Explain definitions, procedures, and their application in solving problems.
❖ Speaking confidently reading from a guide is allowed if it helps.

Please remember that the focus is explanatory: the most important goal is that a classmate who watches
your video should be able to understand the topic even if they are not present in class.
This task is not about editing skills but about your ability to reason, explain, and communicate what
you’ve learned.
- Resources Needed:

Worksheets with exercises.

Scientific calculators.
Notebook

- Process during the Lift:

Individual Presentation:
Each student will have a set time (for example, 5-10 minutes) to present one of the key concepts. During
their presentation, they must:
❖ Define the concept
❖ Explain the property with an example.
❖ Solve a practical problem related to property.

Questions and Answers:

❖ After each presentation, the teacher can ask questions to deepen the subject and verify the student’s
understanding.
❖ Students will be asked to solve a problem at the time to assess their ability to apply the concepts in
new situations.

Constructive Feedback:
❖ After each question-and-answer session, the teacher will provide specific feedback on student
performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
❖ Remember to sign an observation attached to the student’s process.

Final Note – ICFES Simulator Practice

Finally, we will work with the ICFES simulator.
The main goal is not only to choose the correct answers, but to understand the reasoning behind each
option.
Please take your time to read each question carefully, identify what it is asking, and reflect on the
concepts we have reviewed in class.
• Access the simulator here: https://simuladoricfes.co/simulador/
Remember: Understanding why an answer is correct or incorrect is more valuable than getting it right by
chance.
