1. What is communication?
Ans: Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to
another. Exchange of information is called communication. Every communication involves (at least) a
sender, a message and a recipient.

2. What is the importance of communication?


Ans: Communication plays a vital role in human life. It helps facilitate the exchange of information and
knowledge, and develop relationships with others. Therefore, the importance of communication skills in our
day-to-day life cannot be underestimated.

3. What are the elements of communication?


Ans: Communication means giving and receiving, which is a two-way exchange of information. Giving
information is an example of speaking and writing, whereas receiving information is an example of
reading and listening. Sender, Receiver, Message, Encoding, Decoding, Channel, Feedback etc. are the
elements of communication.

4. What are the seven elements that influence the communication skills?
Ans: There are seven different factors which affecting Perspectives in communication –
 Language  Environment  Visual Perception  Culture  Prejudice  Feelings  Past Experience

5. How many types of communication?


Ans: Communication can take place in many ways:
i) Verbal Communication-communicating orally
ii) Non Verbal Communication-communicating using body language, gestures or tone
iii) Written Communication- communicating via handwritten or printed information
iv) Visual Communication-communicating via pictures, logos, posters, maps or charts etc.

6. What is verbal communication? Write advantages and disadvantages of verbal communication.


Ans: In verbal communication we can share ideas or thoughts in the form of sound and word, it is also
known as face – to – face communication.
Advantages:
1. We can convey our messages easily and quickly
2. We get response from audience quickly
3. We can securely exchange ideas
4. We can update our speech according to the response from audience
Disadvantages:
1. The language and cultural difference of the speaker
2. It has no legal validity
3. If we use confusing and complicated words , the receiver may not understand.

7. Differentiate between verbal and non-verbal communication.


Ans: Verbal communication is the sharing of information by using words. It is what most people use as a
method of communication.
Non-verbal communication is the message we send to others without using any words. We send signals
and messages to others, through expressions, gestures and body postures.

8. What is visual communication?


Ans: Another important method of communication is visual communication, which involves sending and
understanding messages only through images or pictures. The main advantage of this type of
communication is that you do not need to know any particular language for understanding it. It is simple,
easy to understand and remains same across different places.

9. What are the basic parts of speech?


Ans: There are eight basic parts of speech in the English language.These are none, pronoun, verb,
adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction and interjection.
a. Noun – Nouns is the name of a person, place, animal or thing. This is also called ‘naming words.
b. Pronoun – A pronoun is used in place of a noun.
c. Adjectives – Adjectives are words that describe other words.
d. Verbs – Verbs are words that show action.
e. Adverbs – Adverbs are words that add meaning to verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.
f. Preposition – A preposition is a word palace before a noun or pronoun.
g. Conjunction – A conjunction is a word that connects two words, phrases, or clauses.
h. Interjection – A word used to communicate emotion is called an interjection

10. What are the various parts of a sentence?


Ans: Answer -A subject and a verb make up a sentence. There is an object in some of the sentences. The
subject is generally a noun, which is a term that refers to a person or thing who performs a specific activity.
The verb comes after the subject and indicates that something is being done. An object, which usually comes
after the verb, receives the action.
There are three different types of parts of sentences –  Subject  Verb  Object

11. What are 7Cs of communication?


Ans: They are applicable to both oral and written communication.
• Clear: While communicating one should be clear about what he / she say.
• Concise: Use simple words and say only what is needed.
• Concrete: Your arguments should be based on solid facts and opinions from credible sources and
you should share reliable data to support your stand.
• Correct: It’s essential that along with the factual information, the language and grammar you use
are correct.
• Coherent: Your words should make sense .Along with that it should related with the main topic
• Complete: Your message should be complete .It should have all the needed information
• Courteous: Be respectful, honest and friendly throughout your communication

12. What are barriers in communication? How to overcome these barriers?


Ans: Communication barriers are something that prevents us from correctly getting and accepting the
messages others use to communicate their information, thoughts and ideas.
 Language barriers.
 Environmental barriers.
 Cultural barriers.
 Interpersonal barriers

• Overcoming Lingual Factors: To overcome this one need to prepare appropriately. One should
carefully think about the language needs of the recipient.
• Overcoming Environmental Factors: Communicators should ensure that the message is delivered in a
distraction free environment.
• Overcoming Barrier of Cultural Influence: Preparation to be made keeping the culture of the people
you are addressing.
• Overcoming Interpersonal Barriers of Communication: Use simple words to convey the message.
