Jenne Jeno History
Jenne Jeno emerged around 300 as a city surrounded by villages (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow
422). The city became a center for regional trade of iron, gold, and silver, in return for urban
manufacturer s (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 422). After 300, the regional trade became long
distance trade, thanks to the introduction of the camel from the Berbers of North Africaand the
Sahara allowing traders to travel through the dessert (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 422). It
took some time for the initial trans Saharan exchanges to become a regular occurrence, however
once the Romans lost control of their gold mines in Iberia to Germanic migrants they began to
regularize trans Saharan trade (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 422). In the 600 s, Soninke chiefs
enriched by the profits of the Saharan trade armed their followers with weapons and horses and
conquered Soninke groups in the Sahel between the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business amongst North African and Middle Eastern merchants was easier to complete when both
parties followed the same beliefs (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 413). In the early 1100 s the
kings of Ghana converted to Islam, possibly under pressure from the Almoravids (von Sivers,
Desnoyers, and Stow 423). In Mali, the opening of new gold fields in the rainforests exposes
hitherto marginal peoples to the influence of long distance trade, royal rule, and Islam (von
Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 424). In 1324, the most famous Malian ruler, Mansa Musa seized
the city of Timbuktu from its Touareg Berber founders (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 426).
Musa founded a college, library, which were part of a Sankore mosque (von Sivers, Desnoyers,

offering various other fields of study (von Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow
S. N. 1 Lab Report
As discussed in lecture, the determining factors of a substitution reaction is likely to occur in either
S_N 1 or S_N 2 by: substrates, leaving group, strength of the nucleophile, and the type of solvent.

When conducting the S_N 1 portion of the experiment, the solvent used was 1% silver nitrate in
ethanol solution (〖AgNO〗_3). This solvent is polar protic. This is the best type of solvent
needed for an S_N 1 reaction because the hydrogen atom is positively charged while the nucleophile
is negatively charged achieving a hydrogen bond. Two factors that contributed to the rate of reaction
for S_N 1 are stability of the carbocation and the leaving group departure. The more stable the
carbocation, the faster the reaction generates and the better the leaving group, it creates a
carbocation faster, which in turn leads to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following six of the nine alkyl halides produced precipitates at room temperature: 2
bromobutane, t butyl chloride, crotyl chloride, bromocyclohexane, bromocyclopentane, and benzyl
chloride. All of these alkyl halides reacted in room temperature because they were either
secondary or tertiary carbons except for crotyl chloride. These types of structures (tertiary) are
favored in the case of S_N 1 while secondary can undergo either S_N 1 or S_N 2. The only primary
carbon that reacted quickly was crotyl chloride because it is an allylic substrate, which can undergo
S_N 1. On the other hand the three remaining alkyl halides did not react at room temperature: 1
chlorobutane, 2 chlorobutane, and bromobenzene. These three alkyl halides were then heated at
80℃. 1 chlorobutane s alpha carbon is primary, so heat is needed in order to create more collision
resulting in a reaction. 2 chlorobutane and 2 bromobutane have similar structures, but the latter
reacted in room temperature because Br is a better leaving group than Cl. Lastly, bromobenzene did
not react even after adding heat

The Concentration of Solutes affects the Rate of Osmosis

Abstract The purpose of this lab was to observe the osmosis rates and mass changes of dialysis
tubes. To this three dialysis tubes with differing sucrose levels were tested on their rate of osmosis
and weighed at 15 minute intervals. The results found described that as the sucrose level increases
the rate of osmosis increased as well.
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if the rate of osmosis has an impact on the
concentration of solutes. During this lab varying levels of sucrose were put into dialysis bags and
then into containers with varying levels of sucrose. This was done to observe how the water moved
through the dialysis tubes. This process is known as osmosis is ...diffusion of water across a
selectively permeable membrane from high to low concentration... (Mader et. al., 2015) . The
movement of water across the membrane can be determined by the concentration of solutes inside
the dialysis bags and the solution surrounding it. If the cell is hypotonic, meaning it has a lower
osmotic pressure, its water concentration is lower than that of the concentration in the cell, which
can cause a rupture. If the cell is hypertonic, meaning it has a higher osmotic pressure; its water
concentration is lower outside the cell then it is inside causing the cell to shrivel up. The hypothesis

The Importance Of Tobacco Use In The United States
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and deaths in the United States
(1). Annually, a total of more deaths can be attributed to tobacco use than by human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and
homicides combined (3). In 2009, nearly 46.6 million or 20.6 percent of all Americans over the age
of 18 were smoking(4), and each day, nearly 3,450 young Americans, between the ages 12 and 17,
start smoking their first cigarette(5). Moreover, tobaccouse results in nearly 443,000 annual deaths in
the United States. Of these, 49,000 are attributed to secondhand smoke exposure (3). Consequently,
tobacco use has heavily burdened the U.S. healthcare system. Every... Show more content on

Some of these teenagers came from households where parents and siblings were also engaged in
tobacco use while others denied any tobacco use within the family. The age of onset of first
tobacco use was either before entering the teenage years, e.g. age 11 or 12, or just upon entering the
early years of teen hood, e.g. age 13 to 14. There were many factors that were shown to influence
their urge to experiment with smoking. The most common reason to initiate smoking was peer
pressure. They all stated that most of their friends had smoked, and as a result, the first cigarette that
was offered to them was by a friend. Other factors included the thought that they would never get
caught by family and the feeling of being in control when they lacked control in other domains, such
as school and relationships. Also, they all stated it made them feel cool among their peers, gave them
self esteem, and helped them create an identity for themselves. Moreover, the notion that one
cigarette would not make them addicts or a few cigarettes would not kill them were other rationales
that were used to initiate and continue this behavior. Many of them also noted pro tobacco
advertisements constantly around them while growing up. The most important factor that seemed to
keep them engaged into smoking was the appreciation and popularity that was
Switching To A Year Round School
Schools across the country are switching to a year round schedule. Little do they know many
others are switching back to the traditional school calendar. Whether it s the parents, kids, or the
teacher, change isn t easy on anyone. Many simply think of it as more school and no breaks but it s
kind of the exact opposite. Year round schoolis simply the same number of days off just in between
and throughout the year. Ultimately switching to a year round schedule would cause a rise in costs,
and greatly affect kids who have summer jobs/vacations, thus creating a scheduling nightmare for
kids, parents, and teachers alike.

Although opposite to this view it is often argued that the addition of year round schooling could be
more or less, a time saver. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One s schedule can get so messed up that no one would have any spare time left at all not have
enough time to take vacations without a long summer break (Chen, p. 9). But for the parents who
manage getting students to school, practice, or whatever it may be it can be a real scheduling
nightmare. Plus it s not likely your employer would negotiate with you on the days you can and can
t come in due to school work. Shorter and more frequent breaks can interfere with job opportunities.
(Chen, p. 9) It s either you re there or not!

Whether it s year round or traditional school they both have drawback, but a year round schedule
would be more devastating than many may think. The negative effects of a year round schedule are
enormous compared to that of a traditional school calendar. Nothing is so painful to the human mind
as a great and sudden change (Quote Garden). Overall the cost would add up, kids would miss
quality time with their relatives, and moreover struggle with finding a normal
What Is My Dreams Essay
Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that occur usually involuntary in
the mind during certain stages of sleep. Some people claim that they never dream. But that isn t
truth. Everybody dreams, but some people have a better memory than others. Some can remember
their dreams vividly. While others can remember partially. And others can t remember anything.
I want to tell you a story about my dreams. Before my final exam, I dreamed about ghost regularly.
It s true. I dreamed at in the afternoon and at night. Ghost hung in mid air around me. I saw them,
touched them a little, I called my mom but I shouldn t do that. When I called her, I wouldn t hold
her hand. One night, I dreamed about ghost again, I was so scared. I used my phone to call my
mother, but in my phone directory. I couldn t see my mom s phone number, but I saw number of
Doll ghost I started. In the morning I waked up and I hold my phone in hand tightly, although I put
it under the pillow. I was so scary about that. One night again, I waked up in the middle of the night,
I turned around and I saw my body still lying, although shadow which was sitting. I was serious,

someone snoring. You can be sure that he is not dreaming at that. You can t read in dream. Try to
read something to know that you are dreaming or no. There are many things which are created
from dream. Example Google, sewing machine... 50% of people can dream about the future. US
President Abraham Lincoln dreamed that he was assassinated, some people dream about the Titanic
tragedy before it happens...Blind people also dream. Their dreams don t see the image but they still

Personal Journal Of A Football Player
October 9th 2012. It started off as any normal day for a couple of sophomores in High School.
My best friend, Chris, was kind of a big shot on the football team even only being a sophomore.
That day after school I went to my regular shooting practice for basketball while out on the
practice field Chris was in football practice. I can remember the exact hoop and exact spot I was
shooting from when the JV football coach came running in so out of breath I thought he was
going to pass out. When he spoke I can remember chills going down my back. He said, Chris just
collapsed on the field and nobody can find a pulse. In a full sprint I was out the door and headed
towards the practice field. Approaching I could see four coaches around his body

The Invention of Television

When you ask the question who invented television, you may get a few different answers!
Television was not invented by a single inventor, instead many people working together and alone
over the years, contributed to the evolution of television. * In Sorbonne, France1922, Edwin Belin,
an Englishman, who held the patent for the transmission of photographs by wire as well as fiber
optics and radar, demonstrated a mechanical scanning device that was an early precursor to modern
television. * John Logie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I choose to write about the television invention because arguing that television is educational and
entertaining has been overused. The most important quality of television has been overlooked, the
ability to change a person s thinking strategy. To categorize everything on television into either
Good or Bad is wrong. To inspire hope into the viewer is a gift. The ability to help others visualize a
positive concept or idea is a blessing.

I believes that the entertainment television has a big and clear effect on real world health by the
various programs which offers a wide range of knowledge and information in this sector, for
example Dr. Oz Show, and its impact on viewers perceptions of issues such as the quality of
managed care, the rights of patients under current law, whether insurance companies are providing
sufficient coverage, and end of life decisions. Related work suggests, too, that TV viewers may well
mix what they see on news and entertainment together

In conclusion, the television is a great technological achievement that has the characteristics of a
person, some shows are funny, powerful and inspiring; others are just not worth watching. Although
television has a bad reputation, it really is a wonderful tool, bringing into our living room a whole
other world.
