Comparative Essay Comparing Ovid And Hesiod
In the works of Greek and Roman literature many aspects of their writings are similar. For
example, in both Greek and Roman literature universality is stressed which means that we are
only moved by the fall of the heroes in their plays because we can relate to their situations and
project ourselves into similar circumstances. I believe that is completely true, only through the
fall of our heroes we see ourselves in the characters. Before their downfalls, we don t see us in
them because they seem basically perfect. Since none of us are perfect it is only when they make
mistakes leading to their downfall we see that the heroes are like us. Not only are Greek and
Roman literature alike in the way that their stories end but also by the way that... Show more content

Although they are different and have unique components that make them unique in their own
way, they do share many similarities. Hesiod came before Ovid which means, it would be
accurate to say that Ovid may have been inspired by some of Hesiod s work. In both creation
myths, we can see Jupiter/Zeus punishing man for various acts. In the stories of Ovid and Hesiod
they act spiteful towards mankind showing how he may have taken some ideas from Hesiod s
previously written stories. There are many aspects of Greek and Roman literature that are similar,
but there are also lots of ways that show that their literature differs. For example, there are very
different takes on their mythologies like in Greek mythology the afterlife is not stressed as
important while in Roman mythology the afterlife is very important. Another example that shows
how Greek and Roman literature are different is how they have different is how they have
different named Gods and Goddesses of the same domain. Such as the God of Love in Greek
literature is Eros while the God of love in Roman literature is
The Element Of Criminal Liability
Introduction
Crime can be defined as an action or omission that can is constituted as an offence, going against
the values of society and is an act which is punishable by law with either a fine, imprisonment or
whatever punishment fits the nature of the crime. In this report there will be a discussion on the two
element on criminal liability which are as followed Mens Rea (guilty mind) and Actus Reus (guilty
act). Different components constitute these elements and are used to make up a crime. However
there have been cases were the use of mens rea has very minimal effect and actus reus is the only
element proven in the offence. For example; Rape even though it is considered a serious offence,
there have been incidents were lack of consent was applicable to the crime as the person may have
been induced to object to force, fear or fraud and the accused would have mentally believed that the
victim had consent hence lacking the mens rea element and continuing the sexual penetration which
is the actus reus component of the offence. This report will also cover the defences to mens rea
(intoxication, mental impairment and infancy and also defences to actus reus (self defence, consent,
execution of the law and misadventure/ mere accident) as well as strict liability in reference to the
elements required for a crime and a table identifying offence/s present in the given scenario.

Mens Rea is what we refer to as the guilty mind. A conduct which has an intention as well as
Reality Television Programs Essay
Media producers all around the world have discovered that so called Reality Television programs
are the key to maximising viewer bases and therefore profits. It is undisputed that Reality Television
makes money. This has resulted in immense amounts of these programs being plastered across our
screens. While these programs line the pockets of producers and companies, they are not necessarily
beneficial to their audiences and the society we live in.
Reality Television programs of today promote schadenfreude, which is the joy or pleasure derived

Others were volunteers, tempted by the fame and fortune that resulted from success. The games
would attract crowds of up to 50,000, who each found some kind of sick pleasure in watching the
violence and agony as gladiators were whipped, gashed and pounded until they were no more than a
bloody, lifeless mound. Although Reality Shows do not show so much the gruesome, blood bath
type violence on our screens, suffering, violence and conflict are still some of the main themes, and
no longer on just a physical level, but mentally and emotionally as well.
While this may have answered why so many people watch these types of programs, it still does
not solve the mystery of why there is an endless and ever increasing list of shallow volunteers
willing to hand themselves over to a future of public humiliation and hate. We all know their fate.
They all know how they will suffer, and be exploited beyond any kind of moral boundaries.
Everyone knows the story of the X Factor winner who records one single and is never heard of

Ancient Egyptian Royalty And The Pantheon Of Gods Essay
When asked to describe Ancient Egypt, many will speak of towering pyramids, glittering
sarcophaguses, and fist sized scarab pendants. However, the image of Ancient Egypt that most have
learned has one glaring flaw: it inordinately focuses on the lives of the social elite. The descriptions
given seldom mention the stories of merchants, artisans, or slaves; they are solely focused on
exploring the lives of the Egyptian royalty and the pantheon of gods that they worshipped. The social
disparity in the study of Ancient Egyptis not the fault of professors, textbooks, or the field of
education in general; rather, it is indicative of the deep social divides which were omnipresent in
Egyptian society from its initiation. In Western Civilizations: Volume One, the authors confirm the
rigid socioeconomic class system of this era: The social pyramid of Old Kingdom Egypt was
extremely steep. At its apex stood the Pharaoh and his extended family, whose prestige and power
set them entirely apart from all other Egyptians. This strict social structure pursued the Egyptian
consciousness, even in death. The Book of the Dead, a collection of spells and incantations to aid a
deceased person through the afterlife, contains ample evidence that social classfollowed Egyptian
citizens past their mortal existence. In my brief study of Ancient Egypt, I have found evidence in
The Book of the Dead to support the claims made by Dr. Symes that Ancient Egyptian society
followed a strict social caste

A recent report indicates that nearly 50 Americans contract HIV each year through blood
transfusions. Although every pint of blood donated in the United States undergoes a battery of nine
different tests, existing screening methods can detect only the antibodies produced by the body s
immune system not foreign agents in the blood. Since it takes weeks or even months for these
antibodies to build up in the blood, newly infected HIV donors can pass along the virus through
blood that has passed existing screening tests. Happily, researchers have developed a series of new
tests aimed at detecting and removing infections from donated blood before it is used in
transfusions. The obvious benefit of these tests is the reduced incidence of infection through blood
transfusions. The report indicates that the current price of decontaminated blood is $60 per pint.
However, if the new screening methods are adopted, the demand and supply for decontaminated
blood will change to

Hermia In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Although some may argue that Puck is the most important character of Shakespeare s A
Midsummer s Night Dream, it is evident based on the events of the play that Hermia should be
given that title. First, although she was oppressed by her father and treated as if she were his
property, she rose above the persecution and took matters into her own hands. In addition, her actions
represent and support the theme of fighting for what you want, even if the course of true lovenever
did run smooth (I.i.134). Finally, like many protagonists from literature, she has bold and complex
personality, but is still a relatable characterfor many readers. The first reason that Hermiashould be
considered the main character of A Midsummer s Night Dream is because... Show more content on

Once Hermia and Lysander set up their plans to elope, everything seemed to be going smoothly
for the couple. However, when Puck mistakenly put the potion on Lysander s eyelids, things took
a turn for the worst. Although she could have given up and decided it wasn t worth trying to
force him to love her again instead of Helena, she knew that he was the one for her and was
willing to fight for him. For instance, when Helena seemed to have stolen both men from Helena,
even though they have been friends for years, she is willing to do whatever it takes to get him
back. She states, How low am I? I am not yet so low/But that my nails can reach unto thine eyes
(III.ii.305 306). This shows that she would be even go as far as hurting her best friend to get her
lover back, which relates back to the quote of the course of true love never did run smooth
(I.i.134). In a somewhat predictable conclusion, Puck removes the potion from Lysander and
everything goes back to normal. Because she showed her true passion for Lysander earlier, even
though they only see it as a dream, their love only grows stronger and they get married publicly in

Examples Of Corruption In The Great Gatsby
The Corruption of the American Dream
The Great Gatsby is a novel by Scott Fitzgerald that took place in the 1920 s also known as the
Jazz age. It is a well rounded novel based upon the life of a wealthy man known as jay Gatsby seen
through the eyes of the narrator Nick Carraway. The main theme of this novel is the pursuit if the
American dream, but through this pursuit the corruption of the American Dream was formed. Jay
Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan and Myrtle Wilson are all trying to achieve the American Dream through
corruption.
Jay Gatsby can be seen as the representation of the corruption of the American Dream. As a young
man Gatsby fell in love with daisy Buchanan and believed that she would only marry him if he
was wealthy. So to achieve wealth Gatsby made a plan, most of which consisted of good character .
Gatsby s day began at 6:00 in the morning for exercise, studying, working and more, as well as

Daisy Buchanan is the person that Gatsby is in love with. She is an example of perfection in
Gatsby s eyes; she is wealthy, graceful, sophisticated and charming. She is the symbol of what
Gatsby strives for. Was Daisy driving? Yes but of course I ll say I was. (143) this Shows that
daisy is careless about other people s lives, she let Gatsby take the blame for the accident she
caused that killed Myrtle. And she shows no concern or guilt about Gatsby s death. She only
married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but
in her heart she never loved anyone except for me. (130). This proves that Daisy was materialistic
and all she wanted was money, even if it meant she wouldn t be happy. Daisy shows the corruption of
the American Dream through her materialistic
Zoonotic Diseases and Risk Factors

Transmitted naturally zoonotic diseases have been around for many years. Dating back to biblical
times as well as Ancient Greece, zoonotic diseases were referred to as plagues. One in particular, in
fact the most noted plague, to cross mankind was from 1348 through 1350 called the black plague.
The Black plague is a bacterial infection named Yersinia pestis. The ancient zoonotic disease was
said to be transmitted by an oriental rat fleas carried by black rats who were in direct contact with
humans. These infected rats traveled with humans on ships during trade. In 1348 medication used
to treat the black plague were remedies like the vinegar and water treatment. The vinegar and
water treatment directed that the infected person be put to bed and bathed with vinegar and rose
water. Other remedies and medications ordered the infected person to drink a mixture every
morning and every night. This mixture included roasting the shells of newly laid eggs. Then
ground the roasted shells into a powder. Chop up the leaves and petals of marigold flowers. Put the
egg shells and marigolds into a pot of good ale. Add treacle and warm over a fire. The patient should
drink this mixture every morning and night. Now antibiotics such as streptomycin, gentamicin,
doxycycline, or ciprofloxacin are used to treat this disease. Also Oxygen, intravenous fluids, and

Threat Of Best Buy Essay
An economic threat of Best Buy is the threat of online retailers like Amazon. Best Buy is increasing
its online sales and remaining competitive. Amazon has become very popular with consumers
because of the convenience of ordering products right from their own living rooms and having it
delivered sometimes within an hour. This makes it hard for Best Buyto compete because they cannot
offer that same experience and expedited shipping. They are trying to compete with fast online store
pick up that is quick and easy.
Another threat to Best Buy are large box stores like Walmart that create an all in one, grab and go

D.Technological
A technological opportunity for Best Buy is the increased releases of new models of smartphones
like Apple and Android. Those products increased interest therefor increase sales by consumers.
Another opportunity is the demand for the latest and greatest electronic products by the population
of consumers.
A threat for Best Buy would be hat the new generation of consumers seem to prefer online shopping
for electronics rather than visiting a brick and mortar store.
Another technological threat to Best Buy is the Digital delivery of media which includes movies
and video games and less number of consumers purchasing hard copies.

Sexual Harassment in India
Sexual harassment in India is termed Eve teasing and is described as: unwelcome sexual gesture or
behaviour whether directly or indirectly as sexually coloured remarks; physical contact and
advances; showing pornography; a demand or request for sexual favours; any other unwelcome
physical, verbal/non verbal conduct being sexual in nature. The critical factor is the unwelcomeness
of the behaviour, thereby making the impact of such actions on the recipient more relevant rather
than intent of the perpetrator. According to India s constitution, sexual harassmentinfringes the

sexual harassment in the workplace. Sexual harassment in the workplace can be between people of
the same sex. Sexual harassment in the workplace can be a woman harassing a man.

Who can sue?

Anyone who is offended by a sexually harassing environment may theoretically sue. However, that
employee s offense must be reasonable. An extremely sensitive person might not be able to maintain
a claim, because her feelings of having been offended were not reasonable.

The reasonableness is evaluated by a standard that is the same as a person in the victim s
circumstances. For example, what a reasonable woman might think is a hostile environment is not
necessarily the same as what a man might think is a hostile environment. If it s a woman who was
harassed, it s the woman s point of view that counts.

Damages In Sexual Harassment In The Workplace Cases

Victims of sexual harassment in the workplace can recover for their lost wages, future lost wages,

Cambodian Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Many people do notice at first, but I am half Asian. I practice both the American and Asian cultures.
My mother is Khmer and my dad is white. Khmer people come from Cambodia which is a small
part of Asia. There are many differences between american and cambodian cultures, here are some of
them.

The first noticeable difference are the kinds of foods. Some of american foods are, burgers,
hotdogs, and more others. Then the most popular cambodian foods are, pho, spring rolls, and rice
with different flavored soups. A normal american breakfast would be something like, pancakes,
and eggs with bacon. Traditional cambodian breakfasts are, pho and a liquid rice soup with dry fish
called, babawl. Most americans eat steak, burgers, and rice with chicken for dinner. While
cambodians eat curry in banana leaves called amok, and the most popular food kuy tieu, which is a
noodle soup which meats and vegetables. Now my favorite, the desserts. There s the american
desserts like, ice cream, cake, and cookies. But cambodian desserts are much different. There s this
sweet juice with noodles that are similar to spaghetti, there s taro ice cream, then my personal
favorite is the mochi ice creams. They are shaped in a circle, with dough wrapped around the ice
cream. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cambodia your parents choose who you get to marry based on who they like. Instead of going to

Joseph Turner Slave Ship Essay
My Initial Reaction to the Work
Out of the choices I had to pick from for my analysis. I chose the painting, Slave Ship by Joseph
Turner, due to the chaos I see in the painting. Not only is the event being portrayed very chaotic, but
the painting itself is full of turmoil as well. The painting has vigorous brush strokes and the colors
seem to melt together in areas, leaving the sky and the sea hard to distinguish in the middle portion
of the painting. The artist also uses bright and dark colors, allowing the creation of pandemonium
that I feel when I see this work. You can see the beginning of a storm on the left of the painting
along with a boat heading into the rougher waters caused by the weather, resulting in the bow to be
propelled upward.
The bottom portion of the painting is topsy turvy as well, showing shackled hands and chains
raised from the turbulent seas. With close inspection, you can see fish within the thrashing waves
on the bottom left portion of the painting. There are fish seen swarming a shackled hand in the
bottom right portion of the work as well. One could possibly argue that the fish are sea monsters. I
also see something that s hard for me to make out, but I think it may be an emergency boat partially
emerged from the waters. Lastly, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to his focus on color and lighting, often found in the Romantic period art work, Joseph s
work went on to influence the Impressionist movement. Throughout Turner s career, he remained
highly sought after and he acquired a very large fortune from his commissions. Museum of Fine
Arts in Boston (2015, May 25) mentions one of the most notable critiques of the work is from the
first owner of the Slave Ship , known as John Ruskin, who stated If I were reduced to rest Turner s
immortality upon any single work, I should choose this. The Slave Ship was considered one of the
most noble art pieces in the landscape
