Ap English Poetry Comparison Essay
A Different Love Story
In the poems Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes and A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns, there are
a lot of similarities, but there are slight differences in those similarities. There are similarities and
differences in the symbolism, tones and themes of the two poems. In both of these poems, it is about
showing their love to the girl. In my opinion, I think that Stereo Hearts is a better poem because, I
can relate to how that author is feeling in the poem. Even though poems have different meanings
they can be very similar.
First, a similarity between Stereo Hearts and A Red, Red Rose is the symbol. The symbol for both
of the poems is a way for them to express a love for their love. An example is my heart s a stereo ...

The theme of both poems is about love. An example would be if i could only find a note to make
you understand I d sing it softly in your ear and grab you by the hand just keep it stuck inside your
head, like your favorite tune and know my heart s a stereo that only plays for you (Gym Class
Heroes lines 16 19). Another example is till a the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi the
sun: I will luve thee still, my dear, while the sands o life shall run (Robert Burns lines 9 12). A
difference would be Stereo Hearts is an appreciating love and A Red, Red Rose is an undying love.
An example is I think I finally found a note to make you understand if you can hit it, sing along
and take me by the hand just keep me stuck inside your head, like your favorite tune you know my
heart s a stereo that only plays for you (Gym Class Heroes lines 28 31). Another example would be
so deep in luve am I: and I will luve thee still, my dear, till a the seas gang dry (Robert Burns lines
Analysis Of The Film Special Jury Award For Unparalleled...
Winning the prize Special Jury Award for Unparalleled Access at Sundance Festival, The Chinese
Mayor, shot by Hao Zhou, is a 2014 documentary film telling the story of Datong under the rule of a
communist mayor Yanbo Geng. Director Hao Zhou follows mayor Geng one year, recording the real
side of the interaction between government officers and people to present the conflicts under the
communist government. Because of that, this filmis prohibited to be shown in Chinasince the
government believes it is rabble rousing which offenses against the social order. Having been
working as a professional photojournalist at news agency, Zhou is expert in photography and
understands the delineation of human interaction. Throughout the film, I believe Zhou wants the
audiences to be inspired by The Chinese Mayor to think in objective instead of subjective manner.
Datong used to be the capital of China sixteen hundred years ago, but it is now the most polluted
city in China for the rapid growth of coal mining industry. Mayor Geng, a lover of ancient Chinese
poetry, wants to transform Datong into a cultural city to restore its greatness. To fulfill his plan,
mayor Geng arranges to build a new city wall in the ancient style to attract tourists. However, he has
to relocate 500,000 people, nearly 30% of the city s population, and to destroy all buildings in the
planned areas. Few years later, Geng was abruptly transferred to another municipality by the central
government (the Communist Party
The Tortilla Curtain Quotes
A 2009 study by Phillippa Lally, a health psychology researcher at UCL, entitled How long does it
take to form a habit , found that on average it takes 66 days for a habit or thought to become
ingrained. This can be from different influences that are seen around and done to people. Us as
humans grow mostly from personal experience, for better or for worse. In this case, it is for
worse. Delaney Mossbacher, one of the main characters, is an average white male living in a small
estate called Arroyo Blanco, where most of the wealthy and middle class live. The fact that he lives
there makes it easier for him to have the mindset that he should act and be his social status, which is
the better than everyone attitude. In the novel, the Tortilla Curtain by T.C Boyle, Delaney
Mossbacher s point of view shifts from a liberal to a racist due to courses of unlucky events. Those
events being him hitting Candido Rincon with his car, getting his dog taken... Show more content on

Delaney was clearly shaken up by this incident, feeling guilty and questions swarming through his
head. Delaney and Candido part ways after he gives Candido 20$. He begins thinking about how
the man did not sue, if his insurance will be okay, and overall just being hard on himself. The then
starts wandering how Candido was there to begin with and what he was doing with the shopping
cart. Convincingly enough, Delaney s shifts his guilty conscious to anger and points out the
negatives in this situation to relieve himself. He stresses himself out thinking about Candido s safety
that he stops to pin his anger, assumptions, and confusion on him instead, especially since he is
Mexican. When he calls his wife, Kyra, about the incident, he specifically points out his race in
hopes of getting the same anger and distraught from
Relationship Between Artemis And The Capulet
Artemis knew that he was in his own little world. Which really wasn t a bad thing as long as he
got the work down. He knew that what he did was different from the other people who would
work for the Clements. But he was thankful to them as they gave him a job and a home for him
and Lilac. Sure being a pureblood meant that he didn t have to get a job. But when he was
disowned that meant that he had nothing left of the Capulet. Which really didn t bother him. He
then came out from one of the cars. Artemis then noticed that it was a women that was trying to get
his attention. He at least knew her name but knew that she was always busy. So it wasn t like they
really knew each other. Just because they was working for the same person, doesn t
Copy Editing Personal Statement
Copy editing my peer s editorial values statement was a challenge because I realized how much
easier it would have been to sit down with the author in person, to go over their paper, and discuss
the message they were trying to deliver. I realized this was a struggle on my end because when I
read a paper, I hear my own voice and how I would word sentences, rather than hearing the author s
voice and personality. I made several changes confidently and the one s that I was unsure about, I
used the New Comment feature on Word to suggest a modification without scratching their idea
proposed. However, the easiest part of editing was revising the style guide because that has no
personal, stylistic choice, input when it comes to editing. Style guides... Show more content on

Ellen Brock discussed a video on different types of necessary editing in her video, What Are The
Different Types of Edits for Novels . Proofreading for me was natural as it is something I have
done in the past, however, when I realized I was line editing, I was somewhat intimidated that I
would make an incorrect correction. I cleaned up some of the writing by deleting repetitive words
and phrases that would allow the paper to sound easier to read.
I used rhetoric in favor of the audience that the paper was intended for. Particular decisions and
suggestions that I made, were not only to improve my peer s writing, but also to keep in mind that
my peer is seeking a sense of approval and satisfaction from their audience. Decisions on style and
language that were absolutely necessary, I corrected. But word choices I felt was a personal
preference that I felt uncomfortable on implementing.
On my next editing assignment, I think I would have more communication between myself and the
writer to better decipher their message they are attempting to convey. I also hope that I will have
more courage to make even more revisions and suggestions without fearing that I will offend the

Characterization of Women as Empowering Figures in The...
In The Country Wife, women are treated as mere objects and are viewed by the men of the play
as being inferior. Sparkish views Alethea as an object that should be flaunted around and is only
interested in marrying her for her wealth. Sparkish revels in the idea that he be envied for his
wife because he believes that allowing more men to love her and envy him for owning her will
increase her worth. In viewing her as something that gains value, Sparkish likens her to a treasure
at an auction, whose value goes up as the number of bidders rises. Mr. Pinchwife also does not view
his wifeas a person because he refuses to let his wife go out and enjoy the sights and wonders of
city life and instead keeps her confined to the house. Like Sparkish,... Show more content on

iii. 100 105) While Sir Jasper believes that his wife is talking about obtaining a china vase from
Horner, she is actually using the word china to represent something sexual. In the china scene Lady
Fidget is given symbolic power over men because she is the one who is in control of the situation by
having her husband deceived and Horner complying with her wishes. Lady Fidget makes use of
her sexuality to obtain attention because as she says earlier, Indeed, as the world goes, I wonder
there are no more jealous since wives are so neglected. (II.i.342 343) Lady Fidget is not receiving
the attention should would like from her husband and because of this she is taking matters into her
own hands and making sure she obtains attention by participating in liaisons with Horner. Lady
Fidget s refusal to allow her husband s neglect affect her enjoyment of life demonstrates that she is
an independent woman who does not have to rely on her husband to achieve what she wants. As
well as being characterized as clever, Lady Fidget is also shown to be hypocritical because she
constantly boasts of her honor and virtue in amongst people and yet in her private life she is
anything but honorable and virtuous due to the affair that she has with Horner. When Lady Fidget
says, Tis not an injury to a husband, till it be an injury to our honours, so
Why Self-Directed Learning Is Important For Undergraduate...
Using evidence from the literature; critically discuss why self directed learning is important for
undergraduate students Self directed learning (SDL) is defined as any form of studying whereby
individuals take the primary responsibility and initiative to plan, implement and evaluate their
own work. However, SDL does not necessarily mean that all learning takes place in isolation from
others; it can consist of participation in study groups, internships, and self guided reading. This
essay will give an overview of why self directed learning is important, in particular for the success
of undergraduate students by helping them become more independent learners. SDL has existed
from classical antiquity (400 BC) and has therefore been an important aspect of the lives of Greek
philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. However, it was not until around 150 years ago
that scholarly efforts took place in order to understand SDL. One of the first documented efforts
concerning SDL was by Craik (1840) who celebrated self educationefforts of several people. In
addition, the book Self Help was published by Smiles (1859) applauding the value of personal
development. Nevertheless, it did not become a major research area until the last three decades.
Observations by Houle (1961) (University of Chicago, Illinois) introduced the concept of SDL;
whereby he interviewed 22 adult learners and categorised them into three groups based upon the
reasoning for participation in learning
