Environmental Science Worksheet

Answer the following questions in at least 100 words. The answers are found in Ch. 1 4 of the text.
1. Provide a brief summary of the history of the environmental movement?

2. Explain the main point concerning exponential growth and whether it is good or bad. Compare
exponential growth to a logistic growth curve and explain how these might apply to human
population growth. What promotes exponential growth? What constrains population growth?

3.Compare predictions for human population growth in developed countries versus developing
countries. Why is it difficult to predict the growth of Earth s human population?

4. Explain how principles of system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of applying it to population, exponential growth is flawed, because population growth does
not depend strictly on birth rate. Mortality rates, life expectancy, disease, natural disasters, and many
other variables affect the rate of population growth.

While exponential growth is proportionate to one variable alone birth rate a logistic growth curve is
an S shape curve that resembles exponential growth at some points, but is also governed by other
variables, including an upper limit. Applied to population growth, logistical growth factors in
variables other than just birth rate, and shows that as the population grows and other factors increase
disease, death, etc., the population growth slows, even if the birth rate doesn t. Exponential growth
is promoted when the environment can hold and support a growing number of inhabitants, and when
health conditions are good, enabling the death rate to be steady and, as a result, population growth
can happen in direct proportion to the birth rate. Population growth is constrained by environmental
reasons natural disaster, pollution, etc., medical reasons disease, etc., natural death, and ideology or
personal reasons birth control, etc.

One big reason is that developing countries tend to have much faster population growth than in
developed countries.
Developing countries have poor access to birth control, often practice religions which prohibit birth
control and value large families, and often have a lot of
Bartleby, The Scrivener And Benito Cereno
Herman Melville (1819 1891) is an American writer who is widely acclaimed, among his most
admired works are Bartleby, the Scrivener and Benito Cereno which both first appeared as
magazine pieces and only published in 1856 as part of a collection. Bartleby was a story
reflecting on the business world of the mid 19th century se t in New York none of its most
famous and sometimes dangerous street: Wall Street. Bartleby a strange but intriguing man
becomes employed in a legal office and in his life and death provides a sort of enigma for his
employer, the reader, and the story itself. Bartleby , the Scrivener is a story that examines the ideas
of a modern working man who is trapped in a mundane cycle that society has put him onto,... Show

The story itself recognizes not only Bartleby s quite rebellion but the parallel it symbolizes with
Melville s views on conformity to society and its norms. While of other law copyists [Bartleby] I
might write the complete life, of Bartleby nothing of that sort can be done [acknowledgement by
the narrator that neither he nor anyone really knows the truth of Bartlebly]. I believe that no
materials exist for a full and satisfactory biography of man. It is an irreparable loss to literature.
Bartleby was one of those being of who nothing is ascertainable, except from the original sources,
and in his case those are very small. What my own astonished eyes saw of Bartleby that is all I
know of him. (Melville, Bartleby the Scrivener: A story of Wall Steet) When the narrator himself
first introduces us to Bartleby the understanding that the narrator does not know everything thus we
do not know everything is presented in tenfold because it is a reflection upon a character not a direct
characterization. The narrator reflects on interaction with Bartleby and the impression and assertions
it has left on him. Bartleby from the beginning is a presented almost as he is still alive but we no
better of it. Bartleby is already a haunting in the text as the initial story is told while looking back
rather than from minute to minute happening. In this extent it s interesting to observe that

Hemoglobin In The Gel Electrophoresis Report
Hemoglobin is present in red blood cells of the body and transport oxygen from lungs to the rest of
the human body (National, 2015). Humans carry different types of hemoglobin, but there are three
common types found in the gel electrophoresis. One of the test blood that help people to diagnose
any disease is the hemoglobinelectrophoresis. Hemoglobin electrophoresis test looks at the different
types of hemoglobin in the blood, and can help diagnose the type of anemia that the person could
have (National, 2014). The three common types of hemoglobin presents in humans are normal
hemoglobin, sickle trait hemoglobin, and sickle cell hemoglobin. Abnormal hemoglobin, called
hemoglobin S, causes sickle cell disease (SCD). The sickle cell hemoglobin
Benefits Of Post-Secondary Education
Post secondary education has a multitude of purposes. Many people have their own opinions about
whether you should continue with school later, but most will benefit from a Higher Education than
just High School. This is beneficial because you can further yourself in life, find better jobs with
higher educationand you will receive more freedom if you choose a school somewhere other than
your home town. It s believed that people will get much further in life if they go to a post
secondary school. It s not that they won t go anywhere if you choose a job with only a high school
diploma, but you can acquire a specialized job if you go to school to study for it. Post secondary will
allow you to go that one extra step so that you can
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Essay
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens wrote his novels during the Victorian times. Britain was a harsh place at this
time with the upper and lower classes being clearly separated. Dickens himself grew up as part of
the lower classes, and so he knew what it was like. It was very hard for the poor to survive, many
of them having no alternative but to go into the workhouses. This seemed to be the worst place to
end up, as many people would rather have died than gone into the workhouses. When people went
to the workhouses, they were separated from their families, forced to work long hours and hardly
fed at all. The workhouse system was the upper classes solution to poverty, but it did not help at all.
The lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this, we can tell that Scrooge did not care about the situation of the poor in London at the
time and did not see any reason why he should help. This view was commonly held by Victorian
people when Dickens wrote the novel. I know this because if the upper did actually try to help the
lower classes, then the inhumane workhouse system would not have been in existence.

Scrooge s attitude towards Christmas completely contrasts to everyone else s attitude in the novel.
The ordinary people walking around on
Christmas Eve were jovial and full of glee whereas Scrooge carried his own low temperature
around with him . He said that they had nothing to be merry about because every Christmas they
found themselves a year older, and not an hour richer . Nevertheless, the poor in this novel find their
happiness with the simplest things, as we are shown by the Ghost of Christmas Present .

The Ghost of Christmas Present is portrayed as a warm character with a jovial air about him. This
particular spirit shows us that although there was nothing very cheerful in the climate or the town ,
there was an air of cheerfulness amongst the people in the streets
i.e. the lower classes. It is through this sprit that we see the lower classes that make do with what
they have, and are grateful and happy about the simple things in life. I think that Dickens is trying to
Horton Foote Biography
Horton Foote once said, I have enormous respect for the human being because they re asked to
take on a lot. And I don t think there s any easy solution. But I think the journey is what you have
to finally be satisfied with, but not be afraid of the lessons one has to learn... it ends up as grace.
And you grow; you find a way to continue . Foote was an ambitious man who kept a family while
he became a legend to the world through his acting career, as a screen writer, and as a novelist.
Born in 1916 in Wharton, Texas, Horton Foote had two younger brothers, which one died in aerial
combat over Germany. He was married to Lillian Vallish Footed for forty seven years until her death
in 1992. They had four children together, Horton Foote, Jr. an... Show more content on

After the success of that play, Foote wrote a full length play called the Texas Town which was in
production with the American Actors Company in 1941. Foote took the lead in Texas Town.
New York Times theater critic Brooks Atkinson showed up at the performance and praised the
play as, according to Hampton, an engrossing portrait of small town life (2010). For sixty years,
Foote had a career as a playwright, television and film screenwriter, and novelist. He stayed strong
to his roots and adapted the Southern writing. His great nine play The Orphan s Home is based
on his parents. Times drama critic Frank Rich, he was a major American dramatist whose epic
body of work recalls Chekhov in its quotidian comedy and heartbreak, and Faulkner in its ability
to make his own corner of America stand for the whole (2013). Foote s fame grew from his script
of To Kill a Mockingbird. The film shows Foote s sensitivity and artistry on every frame, but its
mass appeal owes a great deal to elements not characteristic of his original work (2004). Horton
Foote s playwrights were always unique in topics like music, dance, poetry, and fiction. Foote was a
generous spirit and always energetic. During the 1950 s Foote made some Broadway productions
like the The Trip to Bountiful in 1953. However the 1950 s were about the televised shows like the

Literary Writing Style In Robinson Shelley s Robinson Crusoe
Even though it is very hard to characterize the different types of style as it includes different
literary terms and techniques, the first step would be to use a descriptive word which would not
only help throughout the process but will also give the basic information needed for the
beginning of that process. What could be said in regards to both passages given from Robinson
Crusoe and Tristram Shandy in relation to that descriptive term would be that both have quite
similar appraisals. Both passages could be described under one word sober. Robinson s inner
dialogue is connected to the moral changes in his personality and the way he is perceiving and
understanding life after living on the island on his own for such a long period of time. Tristram,
on the other hand, is also sober, but his style of narration has binary structure. The protagonist
(Tristram) is telling how one of his main characters Mr. Shandy, his father has gained knowledge
and understanding of human nature. The structure encompasses a kind of scientific style because
it is seen that all the knowledge gained is referred to scientists and philosophers like Zeno and
Chrysippus . However, both passages are also elaborative in Tristram Shandy s passage there is
the sense of the narrator s point of view, but also his father s point of view and a brief explanation
of how those points became accountable. In Robinson, that point of view formed not from the desire
to learn and get educated or from the need to

1)The sole plate of the steam iron:
This is usually the metal thick, triangular shaped slab of iron that forms the base over which the
electric iron is built up. The sole plate is cast of molten aluminium. Some part of the mould has the
holes shaped in it which creates the holes that are essential in a steam iron. Heated metal is
inserted into a mould under pressure then cooled and then released. This cooled sole plate is later
on treated in several ways where it s firstly polished then either it s: coated with a non stick
material, or covered with another metal (usually stainless steel). To complete these processes, the
sole plates are put on a large automated carousel, which rotates through each step whereas to polish
the plate, an automated belt sander uses bands of abrasive to polish and buff the plate. An automated
spray painting machine is used to apply the non stick coating. After application, the sole plate is
baked in an automated industrial process.
On the other hand, to coat with another metal (stainless steel), the external metal cover is created by
