Mayor Of Casterbridge Narcissistic Characteristics
Renowned author and poet, Thomas Hardy, was born and raised in the English village of Dorset,
a town that s known for it s ability to remained relatively unchanged in both quality of life and
mentalities for hundreds of years. Hardy explores the characters in the town of Casterbridge in
his novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge, which is based on his own hometown of Dorset. Within
this town of Casterbridge, we follow, as Hardy puts it, A Story of a Man of Character. This
supposed Man of Character is Michael Henchard, who challenges the reader s perception of what it
means to have character. It also follows the characters of Elizabeth Jane, Henchard s daughter, and
Donald Farfrae, his co worker and later rival. During the course of the book, it... Show more content

This shows that Henchard felt a sense of entitlement to Elizabeth Jane, a clear quality of a
narcissist. Just like a child who has had a toy taken away from him, he becomes upset that
something he views as his, no longer belongs to him. This is revealed earlier on with his fixation
of having her take his last name, thus marking her as his. Just like a true narcissist this brings out
a narcissistic rage in Henchard. He quickly begins to criticize and rage at her for anything she
does that reminds him of his former life. For example, her occasional pretty and picturesque use
of dialect words , which reveal her poor upbringing, force Henchard to think of his own past when
he too was poor (99). Though, quite hypocritically, though he is uncultivated himself he becomes
the bitterest critic the fair girl could possibly have had of her own lapses (100). He is quick to
rage and condemn Elizabeth Jane for her inability to completely erase the tongue of her past, though
ironically he can t erase his past either. Just like how Elizabeth Jane s accent occasionally slips into
her speech, similarly, Henchard s past throughout the novel continues to slip into his new life. Needs

Swing Dance History
Single swing is one kind of swing dance that developed with the swing style kind of jazz music in
the 1920s 1940s. Swing refers to a style of jazz music where the emphasis is on the off beat part in
the music and it influenced the evolution of swing dance because the feeling of the dance was
swinging . It uses a strong rhythm section that results in more wind and brass instruments. Swing
bands also featured soloists who improvised during their performance. Sometimes two or three band
members even improvised at the same time. But, not everyone liked swing musicand the wild
dancing that went with it. This kind of wild dancing includes a mix of tap, Charleston, and
improvisation. But, different kinds of swing dancewere created as a result... Show more content on

That s why I liked it because when I forgot dance steps, I made up my own steps since this kind of
dance is all about improvisation. I also stayed open to learning the dance steps and toward the
end of the class I felt like I knew what I was doing. I think what helped me the most was dancing
with so many different partners and figuring out how to be a good follower no matter what kind
of lead my partner is. All in all, I had a swingin good time at my first swing dance class. I learned a
lot about swing dancing and had fun doing it at the same
Analysis Of The Book Sensory Design
Vahid Farbod
Assignment 2 Journal Article Deconstruction
Malnar, Joy Monice and Frank Vodvarka. Sensory Design. Minneapolis: University of Minnesota
Press, 2004.

The book, Sensory Design published by Joy Monice Malnar and Frank Vodvarka in 2004,
explores a new multi sensory method of design for architects in 335 pages. The opening of the
book starts with a question What if we designed for all senses? Very similar to articles from
Pallasmaa, the book leaves the reader wanting to know more about this method although this book
covered many topics and included many references. Malnar is an associate professor at the
University of Illinois, and Vodvarka is an artist who wrote many articles on architectural history.
The book consists of twelve chapters that propose this idea that designers should explore the nature
of our senses response to the spatial built forms that people invest their time in. It tries to cover a
specific topic in each chapter that in order to deconstruct the book, it is necessary to cover each
chapter individually.
The opening chapter describes a sense of place through few examples. A place is perceived through
our sensory responses and cognitive memory which makes that space unique and special as a type.
The second chapter overlooks a series of art movements such as De Stijl, Bauhaus, Enlightenment,
CIAM, and the work of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This chapter attempts to find their
position on senses and the cultural memory. The authors
Right To Write Literature About War Analysis
Who has the right to write literature about war?
Who has the right to write literature about war? When I first read the question it elicited strong
feelings of ownership from me. Having been in combat myself I felt that no one could properly
capture the emotions and experiences one goes through during those moments unless you have
directly participated in them. I felt that only those of us that have been in combat should report or
write about it. How could someone that had never experienced combat truly grasp what it is like?
How could they properly convey the sounds and the smells, the feeling of almost losing your life
so you can take another s? Trying to describe what combat is like to people that have never
participated in it is a losing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I sat down to write this essay I tried to remove my emotional response to the question and think
about it from the perspective of someone that hasn t been in combat. Why wouldn t someone want to
write about war? As we have learned this week through Bierce s works some of the most gallant
and noble scenes human beings can participate in happen through the act of war. It brings out the
absolute best and worst in man often in the same moment. The problem for me is that when we
write so often we draw on our own personnel experiences to help communicate that story, if I want
to write a love story I will draw on my own experiences with love. If I want to write a story about
family I can use the way I am raising my own as a baseline for the feelings and emotions I am
trying to give to the reader. War is so outside of the normal human experience that it takes a very
talented writer to breach this experience without ever having lived it. Some writers have attempted
to interview veterans and use those stories as there baseline for what they are writing. This in my
opinion can work to a point but falls short due the writer using the emotions that these interviews
illicit in them, not what the person they are interviewing actually experienced. I believe that anyone
has the right to write about war, but the writer should use extreme caution in the telling of these

Parvasu kills his father Raibhya though he is the Chief Priest of the holy Yajna. The Yajna is a
holy or sacred activity but he pollutes it. According to the Hindu ritual, people can sit in the yajna
only when they have bath and also they must have a non vegetarian food or sometimes even
without food (upwas) but Parvasu commits a great sin by killing his father. This creates an irony
to the status of Parvasu as despite being the Chief Priest of the yajna he commits a sin. This act of
him would have created an agitation among the public as the yajna is meant for pleasing the
Gods so that they will get the rain. But after this sin he commits another sin by hiding his crime.
He tries to put the blame of killing his father to his brother Arvasu but his self realization makes
his to expiate himself in the same fire of yajna. But it is doubtful whether the people get rain
because of the self expiation of Parvasu or not. The self sacrifice of Parvasu is important part of
the play to but as a part of the yajna it is only a personal atonement. Through this scene Girish
Karnad shows the self realization or the feeling of guiltiness among the people after committing a
The Aeneid by Virgil
The perception of morality is very subjective and relates heavily to what the society of the period
defines as good or bad. In the Aenied, Vergil creates two characters with morally opposite values;
Aenias and Dido. Aenias can be interpreted as the embodiment of what Vergil believes is right,
while Dido is the embodiment of what Vergil believes to be bad. The contrast of Dido s and
Aeneas behavior represents the fact that Vergil s moral values are heavily influenced by the moral
values which the romans upheld, as we can see in the character Aeneas which shows many values
that was heavily emphasized by the policy that Augustus enforced during Vergil s time, and the
character Dido which shows the opposite values that was deemed good during that period.
One of the values that was enforced during Vergil s time by Augustus was patriotism, which in the
Aeniad s context is prioritizing between personal satisfaction, or the greater good. In book 4 of the
Aeneid, the character Aenias and Dido represents the two opposing values, in which Aenias
represents the greater good, while Dido represents the personal satisfaction. For example, Dido
was willing to sacrifice her honor and the respect of her people for Aenias. I sacrificed my virtue,
and the good name I once had, the one hope of undying fame. Dido s actions are an extreme
example of how a person can sacrifice everything, even though she was the queen and had many
moral obligations to her people. Such values are condemned by

Fatty Liver Disease
The risks of consuming sugar do not end with diabetes; studies have also reported sugars
connection to Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Typically, liver disease is seen as a
result of the over consumption of alcohol, but sugar can also have a similar effect on the liver. As
previously described, when glucoseis consumed it is dispersed throughout the body via insulin and
the extra is sent to the liver to be stored. Glucose consumed at low to moderate levels will not have
an overly detrimental effect on the liver. Fructose, however, circumvents insulin and is directed
straight to the liver (Stanhope, SugarConsumption... ). When the fructose reaches the liver it is
stored as fat cells, which build up over time and cause a stress response... Show more content on

Though there is truth in this statement, as aforementioned, if sugar truly is addictive as shown in
some studies, there may be a correlation between overeating and sugar. Even more concerning, in
recent years, there have been multiple discussions arising concerning the sugar industry s
involvement in skewing research conducted on the effects of sugar. These exposés found in both
scholarly journals as well as in publications like Time Magazine suggest great lengths have been
made to hide the negative impacts of sugar from the public. In the article Sugar Industry Influence
on Dental Health Policy Examined, Karen Rosenberg writes, The researchers found a consistent
pattern of efforts by the sugar industry to divert attention away from limiting sugar intake. Why
would the sugar industry try to prevent this information from spreading? Money is most likely the
answer. The sugar industry is a twenty four billion dollar industry worldwide, a market that would
be greatly harmed if sugar stopped being consumed at excessive rates (Keating, The World
Sweetener... ). In recent years, the medical world has begun to address the links to sugar and poor
health. An article written to optometrist doctors (OD) writes, Dennis Ruskin, OD, FAAO, opened
with a frontal assault on the U.S. food industry and government regulatory agencies for not including

Urinary Bladder Research Paper
My organ is the urinary bladder for the organ paper. The function of the urinary bladder is a storage
container temporarily for urine, until it is expelled through the urethra. The elasticity of the bladder
is unmatched as it has the ability to increase in size to make room for increases in urine volume
from 600 to 800 ml at maximum capacity. The reason for this elasticity is due to the visceral
muscles and transitional epithelium located in the walls of this hollow organ, that allows this
distensibility enabling it to fill and empty multiple times every day. Another function of the bladder
is to aid in expelling urine from the body by contracting the detrusor muscle as well as the relaxing
of the urethral sphincter; the external urethral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cardiovascular system plays an immensely important role in the urinary system, without proper
blood supply to the kidneys there would be no filtration and no urine to pass into the bladder. Proper
blood supply is essential and renal failure would be catastrophic to the process of urination.
Maintaining healthy renal arteries and veins is very important also to the respiratory system which
keeps the tissues oxygenated, without this the tissue could not perform the duties required or even
stay alive. The immune system could undesirably affect the kidneys as well, which would impede
the flow of urine to the bladder. Acute or systemic inflammation on the urinary system would
directly affect the bladder as well, this is why we need the immune system to keep this inflammation
at bay. Kidney damage from this would directly affect all the systems mentioned here, so it is very
important to keep the immune system healthy not just for the sake of the urinary system but almost
every system of the human body. The urinary system although often overlooked is extremely
valuable and required to stay alive and maintain homeostasis. So is the bladder and if you
appreciate the ability to hold your urine in until you can find a nearby restroom you should be
thankful for it as
Musee De Louvre Research Paper
The Musee de Louvre was the place I was most excited about when coming to France, and I have
to say that I was not disappointed with it in the slightest. The one thing that I do regret coming into
this was not knowing the background and history of the Louvre and a majority of its works. After
doing some research, I came across the history and mission of The Musee de Louvreand I was
fascinated with what I read: from knowing that The Louvre was originally created as a fortress to
finding out how hard the architects and designers worked so hard to make it an accessible place for
all. The Louvre was originally created in the early 12th century while Francewas under the 43 year
reign of Phillipe Auguste. During this time, a barricade was built to protect Parisfrom the Anglo
Norman threat. France reinforced its defense with a fortress, which is today known as The
Musee de Louvre. I found it neat that The Louvre was created so long ago and for such a different
purpose. Most major places, such as the Palace of Versailles, were created to be a palace for the
people to live in, but the Louvre was created for a much greater purpose: to protect the city. I
believe that its original purpose has a huge affect on why it is so well known and means so much
to the country of France today. In the first few years of the life of The Louvre, a... Show more content

The HGP is a scientific study and mapping of the estimated 50,000 100,000 genes in the human
body. It is being hailed as one of the most important projects in the world by scientists and scholars
alike. The information that these researchers uncover could be helpful for generations to come. The
research will allow doctors to correct genetic disorders before children are born, eliminate the often
fatal problems associated with babies born prematurely, and to cure diseases such as AIDS. The
problem with this project is not the doctors, scientists, and other researchers investigating the genes.
They are out to help people and are not doing this to get rich. Large corporations, such as insurance
companies, and governments are looking to save money on future policyholders through the use of
genetic testing. These illustrate the negative and corruptive aspects of the HGP.
The Human Genome Project was originally founded by the Department Of Energy (DOE) and is
now jointly researched by the DOE and the National Institute of Health (NIH). Research on the
project began in 1990. They used a four letter system to decode the long strands of
