Acculturation In Children
Previous studies showed participants were recruited from a charter school in Houston, Texas,
between 2005 and 2009 and have revealed that higher levels of acculturation are related to obesity in
Latino/Hispanic adults. Conflicting findings exist regarding this relationship in children, and little is
known about the impact of acculturation on children s success in pediatric weight management
programs.
The purposes of the study were to (1) examine the relationship between acculturation and overweight
/obese weight status and (2) determine the impact of acculturation on the changes in weight status
among overweight/obese children 12 and 24 months after having participated in a weight
management intervention.
Methods: This is a secondary analysis of aggregated data from three randomized control trials that
occurred between 2005 and 2009. Height, weight, and level of acculturation using the Child Short

One, highly acculturated children likely have more influence from US media and literature. As
noted in the current study, 61.8 % of highly acculturated compared to 16.6 % of lowly acculturated
children preferred American (English) media or reading material. Also, 89.2 % of highly
acculturated compared to 59.4 % of lowly acculturated children lived in the USA their entire life,
making the likelihood of American media and literature exposure much higher in the highly
acculturated group. Children and adolescents are especially vulnerable to visual images as well as
body image concepts in the media and have a particularly difficult time distinguishing the difference
between what is seen versus reality and finally, stressful life events such as relocating children are
difficult and often traumatic, leading to challenges in school and behavioral

Mississippi State s rival Ole Miss is destined to receive harsh sanctions by the NCAA soon, so we
wondered? How do teams respond to their rival receiving NCAA Sanctions? We go to Los Angeles
to get our first example of this trend as in 2010 the NCAA handed down harsh penalties to USC
including a bowl ban for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, 30 scholarship losses over three years, and
vacate all games Reggie Bush had played in after December of 2004. This included the 2005
National Championship USC had won in Miami Florida at the Orange Bowl. UCLA USC The

UCLA would go on to finish 10 3 in back to back seasons, which many would think is an average
to good season for UCLA. However, Los Angeles had been dominated by the Trojans and their
record from 1990 2009 is a clear example of that. USC played in 13 bowl games in 19 years not
counting the two games that were vacated. USC would also win eight conference championships
in this span of 19 years, also not counting the one they would vacate in 2005. USC would also go
on to win one national championship during that span but would have to vacate another from
their 2004 season. UCLA, on the other hand, didn t experience the same level of success. The
traditional basketball powerhouse went to the same number of bowls before the sanctions were
handed down however they didn t receive much notoriety for their achievements as they only
amassed three conference championships, which all of them occurred from 1990 1995. The
Bruins would also not win a national championship like their inner city rival did. We take a look
at life after the sanctions and this where the difference can truly be seen as UCLA would appear
in two conference championships as well as appear in 5 bowl games from 2010 2016. The Bruins
also pitched two 10 3 seasons. However, the Trojans rebounded rather quickly from their sanctions
as they appeared in five bowl games, but would have been bowl eligible in every season during their
sanctions,

Censorship
Have you ever been listening to the radio and heard a beeeeep in some parts of the song you re
listening to? You know, the annoying sound that interrupts the song? The sound is a familiar one
among those of us that listen to the radio, in particular Rap/hip hop music stations. This noise is
heard because it s used to bleep out/censor the word that was previously there; the word was most
likely bad or offensive. Censorship is a growing concern for our society, whether it s because of the
lack of censorship or too much.
To understand censorship, it s important that you know exactly what it is. According to an article by

One rapper who had his lyrics taken in the wrong context was Sir Mix A Lot. Believe it or not,
some people didn t like when I used the word mayonnaise. And I didn t use it in a bad context,
insists the rapper. I m not talking about sperm when I say It ain t good without the mayonnaise. I
m saying, When something s good to you, it s not necessarily good for you. It s not the tappers
whose minds are in the gutters. To equate mayonnaise with sperm, that s kind of sad. (Benesch 42)
Some artists feel that being forced to change their words is an obstruction of freedom of speech.
Yes, there are FCC regulations that need to be followed but that doesn t make them moral.
A lot of controversy exists in rap because of the things that are expressed in rap songs and even
videos. But deep down rap isn t all about degrading women, shooting people, or doing drugs. Most
and I stress most, rappers rap about their struggles and life growing up but not all of them. Some
rappers didn t have a tough life, but most of the gangsta rap raps about real struggles that they and
their culture went through. Rap has a history, and to understand why rappers write about the things
they do, you have to understand where it came from. [rap] expresses views and opinions; it has its
own language, fashion, the way we walk that bop, that swagger. It s a subculture that s evolved in
the inner city and has become global.

Should Historians Emphasize Agriculture Or Human Sacrifice...
Should Historians Emphasize Agriculture or Human Sacrifice? I think historians should emphasize
agriculture. Did you know that Aztecs used Chinampas to produce crops? Yes, Aztec can produce
about four crops a year. The Aztecs lived from 1350 through 1519. Two important parts of the Aztec
society was human sacrifice and agriculture. So, should historians emphasize agriculture or human
sacrifice? I think historians should emphasize agriculture than human sacrifice.
Agriculture helped many people out because if there wasn t the Chinampas, people couldn t eat and
they d starve to death. (Document B) Military needed fed the most because if you eat, you get

How Do You Explain The Steps Involved In The Urinary System
To explain how diabetes affects the different systems, we need to know how the act normally. The
urinary system normal function is to maintain the acid base balance, conserve fluids, regulate the
amount of salts and water in the blood and eliminate liquid waste, known as urea. The urinary system
works together with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and water in
the body. The typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a day of
urine. The urinary system includes 2 kidneys (the primary organs in the urinary system), ureters, a
bladder and urethra. The kidneyis where the filtration occurs, it balances salts and waters. The
kidney s is where nephrons also known as filtering units.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secretion is when ions pass from the capillaries into the renal tubule, this becomes urine. The
urine passes through the ureters, and drain into the bladder. The bladder is where urine is
collected and stored until an urge to release it. When emptying the bladder sphincter open and
urine flows, which travels down the urethra that passes outside the body. Glucose should not be
filtered out of the body by the kidneys; therefore, if glucose is found in the urine it is a symptom
that the cells aren t utilizing the glucose affectively. The high amount of glucose in the urine
provide an increase production of bacterial and fungal growth. Urinary tract infections and yeast
infections are two of the most common bacterial and fungal infections that can be cause by type II
diabetes. The increase urinary tract infections can also be due to having a dysfunctional bladder
that contract poorly. The poor contraction allows for urine to remain in static pools for long periods
of time. This provides luxurious ponds for bacteria to grow in. Bladder problems are another
problem for diabetic. An overactive bladder is common this is caused by damaged nerves that send
signals to the bladder at the wrong time, this causes the muscles to contract without

curious, Hamlet, for what reason did you do such a terrible thing? What has he ever done to
deserve such a foul fate? Has he wronged you in any way? All he has done is loyally serve your
family yet this is what he receives in return! It overwhelms me with great sadness.
Moreover, not only have I lost my father, but it seems I have lost you as well, both mentally and

`` 13, 1977, 21 By Jonathan Lethem
The essay I am analyzing is entitled simply as 13, 1977, 21 by Jonathan Lethem. It s personal
narrative that is a retelling of the author s childhood and it starts with Lethem confessing that he saw
the original Star Wars movie twenty one times in one summer when he was thirteen years old.
Despite what some readers may think, this essay is not about any kind of obsession he may have
with Star Wars. He tells more about the aspects of his childhood that related to the detail of his
almost religious coming and going to the movie theater, which serves as the sweet lace to the bitter
truth of his childhood. In this essay, Lethem purposefully uses the device of Star Wars to link details
of that time in his life to frame into what maybe the most important time in his life.
Lethem is a Brooklyn, New York native and talks about that summer in 1977 when he take the
subway to Astor Plaza, which is near Times Square, to see Star Wars. As he s confessing that
during that summer he saw the movie twenty one times, it sounds like he s on a stage admitting
some sort of sin to the audience as if they were his priest, and he tries to make it very clear that he
is ashamed of it. This works into the type of audience he s aiming to gain. This essay is sort of a
trap. Within the first sentence of the essay, In the summer of 1977 I saw Star Wars the original,
which is all I want to discuss here twenty one times. (245), he uses the popular subject of Star Wars
to reel any wandering reader. The

The violence of the ETA remained backstage for a few months until February, when it continued its
violence in the shooting of Alberto Jimenez Bercerril, the deputy mayor of Seville, and his wife,
Asuncion Garcia. This was significant because it was the first time the terrorists had targeted non
Basque officials and also because it suggested that all governing politicians might become targets of
ETA attack. The shooting incited much protest in Seville, as Jimenez was the fourth official of his
status to be murdered in less than a year.
Global attention focused back on HB and the ETA the following month, only this time putting
them as the victims of political treachery. CESID, the Spanish secret service that became the

their promise to reform the secret service to be merely a joke. CESID had set up a listening post
above HB offices, and fled when their wires were discovered by a telephone engineer. This discovery

Anselm And Descartes Argument Analysis
In this essay, I will critically discuss Anselm and Descartes arguments on the existence of God. I will
explain which philosopher made a better argument on the existence of God, which philosopher did a
better job explaining their argument. The philosopher, Anselm did a better job explaining his view
on the existenceof God. My reasoning behind this is Anselm explains his argument through steps and
his explains his argument in a very organized matter. Descartes argument is still a good argument,
but it is very confusing and unorganized. Descartes argument in my opinion was more of a concept
of God s existence more than the actual existence of God.
Although I think Anselm made the better argument, his argument does have some flaws. Anselm
argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anselm definition of God is a being a greater than which cannot be conceived. In contrast,
Descartes views the existence of God is a necessary existence which is an idea of a supremely
perfect being. Descartes argues the nature of God; he thinks existence cannot be detached from
the principle of a supremely perfect being without running into a conflict. In Anselm s argument,
he thinks God can only exist on our minds, but if God exists in our minds he must exist in reality.
Any good thing that we can imagine, would be better if it was in reality, same with the existence
of God. Anselm s explains that if God only exist in our minds, God would not be the greatest thing
that we can think, but God in reality would only be better. Therefore, God must exist in reality. In
Descartes argument, he explains that his idea of God holds the impression of his existence.
Therefore, God must exist. Descartes clarifies that not just God existence, but that God can t not
exist, Descartes says that God s existence is necessary. Another way to look at his argument is that
God is a supremely perfect being, existence is perfection. Therefore, God must exist. Descartes states
that the necessity which lies in the thing itself, that is, the necessity of the existence of God,
determines me to think in this way: for it is not in my power to conceive a God without existence.

Parallel Experiences of Three Troubled Women in Cunningham s, The Hours
According to Chronicles magazine, Woolf was undeniably a brilliant writer. Woolf s work of Mrs.
Dalloway was read by fifteen year old Michael Cunningham in order to impress an older girl in
school. As he stated, the book really knocked me out. Once older, Cunningham wanted to write
about Mrs. Dalloway, but thought not too many people would want to read a book about reading a
book. He then thought he might want to read a book about reading the right book. Hence, The Hours
was written. Cunningham would incorporate Mrs. Dalloway into a book about reading a book. The
Hours weaves through three woman s lives. As the novel unfolds, it shows that these three women ...

The final narrative deals with Clarissa Vaughn. Clarissa lives in a Manhattan apartment in the
1990s with her 19 year old daughter and lesbian lover. She is overwhelmed with planning a party
for a local poet whom she is the publisher. The local poet, Richard, once had a relationship with
Clarissa, but is now a dying homosexual with AIDS.
When I look up the meaning of metaphors in Webster it says a figure of speech in which a work for
one idea or thing is used in place of another to suggest a likeness between them. The Hours by
Michael Cunningham is enriched with many complex metaphors. While intertwining three different
woman s lives, Cunningham uses a wide range of metaphors to help mean something in one story
and tie into the next woman s story. Using deconstructive interpretation to investigate these
strategically placed metaphors can be difficult and exciting, yet challenging.
The flow of the novel starts as Woolf finds the opening line of her new novel: Mrs. Dalloway
decided she would buy the flowers herself. The flowers would proof an important metaphor in the
book. This thought of buying the flowers herself would link Woolf and Clarissa. Clarissa states
the same words to her lover in preparing for Richard s party. And yet the flowers would reappear in
Laura Browns life as her husband buys flowers for his own birthday. Flowers that normally
represent life and color ironically represent sadness and loneliness in this novel.

Retail Sales Indicator The retail sales indicator measures the dollar value of merchandise sold within
the retail industry, which includes traditional retailers selling via internet but excludes companies
conducting non retail operations such as travel, ticketing, and financial services ( FAQ ). The retail
sales is a leading indicator because it gives us a glimpse of what we can expect in the following
months in the economy. It is important to keep in mind that leading indicators are not always
accurate and are subject to revisions. The retail sales indicator covers the previous month s data
and is typically released on or around the 13th of each month. The report is usually presented in one
of two ways: with auto sales being counted and without auto sales being counted since auto sales
can skew the data due to their high price ( Investopedia: retail sales , n.d.). Companies of all sizes
are used in the survey, from large corporations such as Wal Mart to independent mom and pop shops.
The methodology behind the survey is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S.
Department Commerce (United States Bureau: Monthly Annual retail trade: Annual retail trade
survey methodology , 2015).
