Richard Gatling Gun Research Paper
In 1862 Dr. Richard Gatling invented and patented the original six barrel, .58 caliber Gatling gun
that fired up to 300 rounds per minute (McNab). The Gatling Gun became just the beginning,
however, as it would lead to world renowned inventions in the military and change war forever.
Dr. Richard Gatling grew up on a small farm in South Carolina, working with his dad on their
small farm, making ends meet. In his earlier years, he caught a bad case of smallpox and almost
died in 1846 (Silvia). His encounter with the disease sparked his interest in medicine and later in
life he went on to study medicine in college and he became a more modern day physician at the
time (Silvia). He practiced medicine for about eight years before he discovered... Show more content

It affected the gun especially on the battlefield where the terrain varied widely compared to that
of a flat shooting course the gun had been tested on (Silvia). The lack of the guns accuracy had to
be compromised by the amount of lead it could sling at people. In 1862 Gatling came out with the
first model, a six barrel, small caliber gun, that shot around three hundred rounds per minute. Later
in the war, however, after being suped up , it had ten barrel, .58 caliber gun, that shot four hundred
rounds per minute (History.com Staff). However, as the war progressed and rifles as well as
fighting tactics changed, generals started to see there are many ways to avoid the Gatling Gun, and
ways to make it even more inaccurate for the enemy shooting at them. Although this caused the gun
to lose its popularity and use, the way that it forever changed war is incredible. It forced generals
for both the Union and the Confederates to use, and to create new styles of
Neoclassicism Vs. Modernism Essay
Igor Stravinsky makes for a first class example of differences and similarities between
neoclassicism and modernism. Modernism is defined as A term used in music to denote a multi
faceted but distinct and continuous tradition within 20th century composition 1, while
neoclassicism may be defined as A movement of style in the works of certain 20th century
composers, who, particularly during the period between the two world wars, revived the balanced
forms and clearly perceptible thematic processes of earlier styles to replace what were, to them, the
increasingly exaggerated gestures and formlessness of late Romanticism 2 By not only comparing
his works to others but within his own body of work the two movements can be better... Show more

In addition to asymmetrical rhythms the use of polytonality is vibrant throughout the piece
especially in the introduction which begins with different clarinets playing polytonal. Stravinsky
structured The Rite very differently, melody was not the only dominant feature of the piece, other
features such as the fore mentioned polytonality and asymmetrical rhythms were also at the
dominant features of the piece. By breaking from many common practices of his own and of the
time, Stravinsky created a piece slated in modernism s history. While The Rite was a piece of
modernist material, Stravinsky later moved on to neoclassicism, Pulcinella greatly represents a
small portion of Stravinsky s neoclassical repertoire. Like Stravinsky his contemporary in another
art form was Pablo Picasso, interestingly enough he played a huge part in the design of the visuals
in Pulcinella. Both emphasize or accentuate certain features within their works. Where Stravinsky
may accentuate his neoclassical works with features from his predecessors, Picasso accentuates
his art with his perceptions, such as his Stravinsky portrait that cast s Stravinsky with a very large
body, a small head but a rather large nose. Both emphasized certain themes within their works of
art. Pulcinella, is also often compared to Schoenberg s Pierrot lunaire, an earlier piece set to seven
poems and performed in sprechstimme. While Pulcinella was a ballet performed in a
Compare And Contrast The Tyger And The Lamb
Almost everyone at some particular point in his or her life has challenged the existence of God.
This may happen for a number of reasons. For example he or she might have been at a point in their
life when their faith alone was just not enough for them to believe or they question why God would
make the maleficent and the good in this world. Through the utilization of Symbols coupled with
rhetorical questions and allusions to Greek mythologyBlake illustrates creation(good) and
destruction(evil) are one force and are made by the same force.
By comparing and contrasting the symbols of the Tyger and the lamb coupled with a rhetorical
question, Blake is able to illustrate that both good and are shaped into the world by God. Blake s
Tyger is presented with a beauty that is fascinating burning bright in spite of, its destructiveness. It s
not debatable whether the Tyger represents good or evil, but one thing is certain that it s the sense
of impenetrable mystery, its resistance to any categorization or any explainable human terms that
makes the figure of the Tyger supremely amazing. The Tyger, it symbolizes the dreadful forces in
the world just as the lamb symbolizes Innocence and good in the world. As the tradition holds,
animals such as lambs were sacrificed to God. Blake draws on traditional biblical symbolism to
present the Lamb as pure, innocent, and childlike. Blake then utilises Christian imagery to question
whether a beneficent God would create the lamb and the Tyger,
Canada s Multicultural Dynamic
Canada s multicultural dynamic presents the country with a unique perspective unlike no other. The
nation is made up of citizens with different heritages, traditions and practices that have positively
integrated into Canadian society ever since the government began to acknowledge diversity within
the country. This paper will argue that multiculturalismrepresents a qualitatively better approach to
ethnic diversity than did the Canadian immigration and cultural policies that preceded it. Restricted
immigration and aboriginal assimilation negatively affect the larger picture of Canadian culture in
comparison to public policy supporting multiculturalism.
The idea of Canada being a multicultural society has arguably been around since the ... Show more

They had no choice in the matter and children were going to be taught how to assimilate into
Canadian society. This was done through the implementation of a residential school system and
therefore be forced to lose ties to a culture they knew their whole lives. They continued to be
segregated socially, silenced politically, and marginalized economically (76). The Canadian
government in this period was vested in decreasing diversity while promoting assimilation and
limiting the multicultural character of Canada (Davis 70). A political shift in ideals favoring
multiculturalism was necessary before the government continued to make decisions that would
compromise their integrity as well as continue a developing racist and prejudiced society into the
future.
It was not until the 1960s when previous assimilation and limited diversity began to change. The
federal decision to move away from ethnic intolerance and assimilation saw the beginnings of
diversity tolerance for Canada. The government was left with no choice but to tailor their mandates
around the shifting opinions of Canadians. Increasingly, Canadians found the old policy
incompatible with the liberal and democratic values of Canada (71) along with increased disaffection
with the policies of assimilation on the part of minatory ethnic groups themselves (71). Social
standards were changing amongst the general public.
David Noble Religion
In general, when our society discusses religion and technology, we discuss them as opposites, as two
things that are essential to our lives but are incompatible when considered together. In his book
Religion of Technology, David Noble argues against this common idea. Noble argues that they are
not only compatible in our modern day, but that they have been essential to each others growth for
much of religious history. In the text, Noble outlines the history of the intertwining of religionand
technology, focusing primarily on useful arts from the past and artificial intelligence, atomic
weapons, biological engineering, and space exploration in our present day. While it may seem that
these scientific advances has very little to do with religion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While some fear the path of AI and others believe it to be essential to an improved, more
convenient and knowledgable life, some religious researchers believe that it is essential to
creating a perfect, immortal man. This group of people does not fear the path of AI, but
embraces it, hoping for a new species of people more intelligent than man, able to see develop
themselves further and create even more knowledge, living alongside them peacefully. With the
emergence of AI, they discovered a way to take man s immortal self, soul and knowledge, and
take it away from man s mortal existence. Other groups see the creation of AI as a return of mind
to its divine origin , creating a balance of created and creator, as researchers have a chance to
become a god to the universe and creatures that they help create. I wonder, as Noble touches on,
whether the advancement of AI would bring in a question of the existence of God, as it is unclear
whether these artificial creatures would have the ability to consider and understand the ideas of
The Use Of Bias In News Media
A tool used on a day to day basis to shape political discourse, most often used in news media. Bias is
inclination or prejudice for or against one person or group, especially in a way considered to be
unfair (OxfordDictionaryPress, 2015). Three news articles have been chosen for analysis on the
topic of the MH 17, all with different opinions. The selected newspaper propagandacomes from
ABC, Tribune and RT. One possible reason as to why these newspapers have varying opinions is
due to them having different owners. For example, Rupert Murdoch, the multi national owner of
media outlets newspapers generally have the same viewpoint due to Murdoch instructing how he
wants the news heard from his papers. The most common ways the news manipulate readers into
telling their biased view of the story is through the use of language, the use of positive and negative
words; selection and omission, ignoring some details and including others; and bias through use of
statistics and crowd counts, inflation of numbers. Although, writers can also be oblivious to the use
of bias because of their cultural beliefs.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consequence of the MH 17 incident occurring close to Russian borders, Russia is taking the
blame for the shooting down of the plane. As expected, the headline of this article states Russia
rejects Dutch report on MH17... The invited reading of this article is to neglect the Dutch claims of
Russians shooting the plane with a BUK missile. Instead, the paper writes that Russia has been
suspended from the MH 17 investigation, and that they will be hosting a Russian led probe into the
crash due to the existing established area being a wrong interpretation of the missile plane encounter.
Bias articles generally include marginalisation, in this case, RT does not give information regarding
that the plane was shot down from within pro Russian rebels
The Between Russia And Brandenburg Prussia
L état, c est moi. I am the state, as quoted by Louis XIV. This is a great example of the meaning of
absolutism. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove
that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls
to whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and
World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the
kingdoms should be more heavily stressed.
France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash
between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had
created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son,
but he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the
political privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this
he affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs.
After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited
the throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had
given him the position of King of France. The Sun King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself
with the nobles to keep them from governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering
himself.
A Sorrowful Woman By Gail Godwin
In A Sorrowful Woman, written by Gail Godwin the marriage for the unnamed woman is a torment.
The whole time, she suffers from grief and sadness. Meanwhile, the husband is a great man. He
shows her compassion, patience, forgiveness, and understanding. He adjusts his life around her
episodes to accommodate her needs. She is imprisoned in her mind with this disorder which
eventually leads to her suicide. Bipolar Disorder is the psychiatric illness characterized by both
manic and depressive episodes or manic ones only. In the short storyA Sorrowful Womanmom has
Bipolar Disorder and has significant difficulty associating with her husbandand son. It is
disconcerting how a mother cannot connect or deal with her child.

But we mutter something under our breath and look bothered. Unfortunately, Bipolar Disorder
irritation has a great deal of strength behind it. The reaction becomes irresistible. The honking, the
ranting and possibly cutting someone off in traffic. Throwing items is more evidence of
combative irritation. After supper several nights later, she hit the child. She had known she was
going to do it when the father would see. I m sorry, she said, collapsing on the floor. (Godwin, 39).
Figuring she is overwhelmed with her life, in general, the husband suggests getting a girl to help
take the pressure off. He thinks this will make her feel less stressed.
Another indication of Bipolar Disorder is creating and believing concepts or realities that do not
exist. A little life event that is unfortunate, but hardly unheard of can suddenly feel like the end of
your life. It is difficult to reason with a person when they have these thoughts/beliefs. They believe
them as much as we believe the sun will come up tomorrow. At times, psychotic symptoms such as
delusions, severe paranoia, and hallucinations may accompany a manic episode. (Gooding,
Wolford, DSM5). In A Sorrowful Woman, the excited boy feels he has his mom back. Using his
imagination, he is playing the role of a ferocious tiger. He is following her around the home
growling and clawing at her. By accident, he scratched her. After they watched a red line of
Gun Control is NOT Losing your Target in the Recoil Essay
Guns, like many other issues of the day, have two distinct and opposing views with many people in
the middle or undecided. Even following the tragic events of December 7, 1993, when unemployed
handyman Colin Ferguson boarded the LIR s 5:33 out of Penn Station. Ferguson waited until the
train, filled with local commuters on their way home, pulled out of the Hicksville station before
drawing a 9mm pistol. Ferguson then opened fire walking up and down the aisle shooting
passangers indiscriminately, stopping only to reload, twice. When he was finished six were dead
and 19 were injured.

Much has been made by the gun control advocates of the phrase a well regulated militia , as it
appears in the second amendment; arguing that the true intent of the framers was to guarantee this
right to state militias and not the individual. I believe the flaw in this argument comes from their
ignorance at best and selective interpretation or outright lying at worst, of the historical facts
surrounding the original intent of this amendment.
The framers of the constitution were purposefully vague in the wording of many articles throughout
the constitution. As a significant portion of the constitution s framers were themselves lawyers, I
believe this deliberate vagueness was an effort to prevent the spirit of the document from becoming
lost in the semantics of verbatim analysis so often favored by barristers and politicians. This
necessitates that we look at other works of the time to help us in interpreting the framers intent. To
these ends constitutional scholars, the federal courts and laymen alike have relied heavily on the
Federalist Papers for additional insight
Responsibility In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Where Does Ultimate Responsibility lie for the death of Santiago Nasar, in Chronicle of a Death
Foretold?

On the day they were going to kill him [1], is the opening to Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by
Gabriel Marquez, is a novella written in the form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction;, in which
the reader is told about the murder death from the first line. Here comes the importance of the theme
of responsibility; we, along with the narrator, work backwards to unravel the reasons and the
mysteries behind the murder. However, we must differentiate between two opposite aspects of this
theme; responsibility and action. Some characters were prominently conventionally responsible for
the death of Santiago, through their actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they both determined, not to mention it to the latter. It could be perceived that she, as a
young woman, just stepping into the world of adolescence, was not yet able define her feelings
towards Santiago. The narrator comments that, (Divina) didn t warn him because she was
nothing but a frightened child at the time, incapable of a decision of her own. She was unclear
about her feelings towards him and permitted her mother to decide for her. However, Divina s
main contribution to the theme of responsibility arises at the end of the novella. She led Plácida
Linero, into locking the door, deeming believing that she had seen Santiago had gone up to his
room. Yet, in fact the latter, was assaulted by the Vicario twins, in front of his house and the
narrator comments that, (he) only lacked a few seconds to get in when the door closed. (Marquez,
P.119) Despite, the fact that her illusion sounds implausible, Divina confirms that she had seen him
come inside the house, It was a very clear vision (Marquez, P.118). We, as the readers are left with
no option but to believe her.

Two other characters; LeonardoLeandro Pornoy and Colonel Aponte can be both held responsible
for the murder, they had equivalent chances to save Santiago s life. LeonardoLeandro Pornoy, the
policeman, was given first hand information, when the Vicario twins, informed him of their intent to
kill Santiago. However, his ignorance prevented him from arresting them or even

All businesses are affected by national and global economic factors. National and global interest rate
and fiscal policy will be set around economic conditions. The climate of the economy dictates how
consumers, suppliers and other organizational stakeholders such as suppliers and creditors behave
within society.

An economy undergoing recession will have high unemployment, low spending power and low
stakeholder confidence. Conversely a booming or growing economy will have low unemployment,
high spending power and high stakeholder confidence.

A successful organization will respond to economic conditions and stakeholder behavior.

Furthermore organisations will need to review the impact economic conditions are having on their
competitors and respond accordingly.

In this global business world organisations are affected by economies throughout the world and not
just the countries in which they are based or operate from. For example: a global credit crunch
originating in the USA contributed towards the credit crunch in the UK in 2007/08.

Cheaper labour in developing countries affects the competitiveness of products from developed
countries. An increase in interest rates in the USA will affect the share price of UK stocks or
adverse weather conditions in India may affect the price of tea bought in an English café.

A truly global player has to be aware of economic conditions across all borders
