Essay on Alarm Fatigue
Alarm Fatigue Alarm fatigue is a growing national problem within the health care industry that links
medical technology as a serious hazard that poses a significant threat to patient safety within
hospitals across the country. Alarm fatigue occurs when nurses encounter an overwhelming amount
of alarms thus becoming desensitized to the firing alarms. Alarmdesensitization is a multifaceted
issue that is related to the number of alarming medical devices, a high false alarmrate, and the lack of
alarm standardization in hospitals today (Cvach, 2012). Desensitization can lead to delayed response
times, alarms silenced or turned off, or alarms adjusted to unsafe limits, which can create a
dangerous situation for the patient. Alarm fatigue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
378). Hospitals have an array of medical devices at the bedside that have alarms, which have
grown significantly within recent years. Nurses may be exposed to over 350 physiologic alarm
monitors per day, resulting in sensory overload thus leading to desensitization. When the alarm
sounds it should be corrected immediately, even though it may be a false alarm or no issues with
the patient. The Joint Commission has identified alarm fatigue as a 2014 National Patient Safety
Goal, requiring hospitals to establish improvement of alarm system safety as an organization
priority (as cited in Horkan, 2014, p. 83). Alarms are deliberately designed for high sensitivity so
that nurses do not miss a true event. Firing alarms are usually muted, disabled or ignored by nurses
altogether because alarms are viewed as a nuisance. Alarm hazards have generated national attention,
in one highly publicized case an alarm sounded for 75 minutes before a nurse responded to a patient
s heart monitor that needed a battery replaced. When the nurse finally went to change the battery the
patient was found unresponsive and could not be resuscitated because he had gone into cardiac
arrest (Sendelbach Funk, 2013). The patient s heart monitor battery eventually died and did not issue
the critical alarm alert. In another event, a patient fell getting out of bed and bleed to death because

Native Son Oppression
The Effects of Poverty and Oppression The novels Native Son by Richard Wright and The Prince
and the Pauper by Mark Twain both show the effects of poverty and oppression. Both novels do
so by showing its effects on poor people, rich people, and the society in which they live. In Native
Son, the main character becomes bitter and violent as a result of the racism and oppression he lives
under, very much like John Canty in The Prince and the Pauper, who becomes a criminal and beats
his son because of his poverty. In both stories, the rich people benefit on the backs of the poorer
characters. In The Prince and the Pauper, King Henry VIII jails and kills people based on their
religion, while Mr. Dalton of Native Son profits off of forcing black... Show more content on

He has spent so long fighting against his poverty that he has built up a tough wall around him
that ends up causing him to hurt other people. Likewise, many of the prisoners in the jail where
Edward stays in The Prince and the Pauper are very casual about the injustices that they face
while Edward is shocked at all the terrible things that he was completely immune to as prince.
This new knowledge of Edward s is what seperates how he and Bigger end up at the end of their
respective novels. Edward was so naive that this knowledge came as a complete shock to him and
therefore it made a large impact on how he ruled once he became king. He says, What dost thou
know of suffering and oppression? I and my people know, but not thou. (Twain 120), clearly
thinking back on his experiences as Tom and the people he met who were suffering and oppressed.
Unfortunately, Bigger was not so lucky as Edward. The mistakes caused by his social callous cause
him to be sentenced to death. Both characters are affected by their societal oppressions, yet both deal
with it in different way, which ends up leading to their vastly different
Predicaments Caused by Affirmative Action
College, one of the first and most important milestones individuals achieve. Many students strive to
make excellent grades, excel in varsity sports, and get involved in extracurricular activities, solely to
stand out from the crowd. Every determining factor in college admissions is up to the individual,
except for one, race. A vast amount of students find this factor controversial. Colleges are accepting
and denying students admission based on a factor that students have no control over. This system of
admission has been implemented by the government in 1961. The system was created due to the
colossal amount of discriminationminorities have faced in the past, it s called Affirmative Action.
Affirmative Actions purpose was to create a diverse environment, which meant, sometimes turning
down the best individual for the job. At the time, this was necessary, but now, not so much.
Affirmative Action was crucial for minorities to gain financial stability after being oppressed for
decades, but in modern society, there has to be a system to assure the best individual for the job.
Affirmative Action can cause a predicament for society in a whole. A highly qualified student can be
denied admission from their first choice college, due to their race. They can be subjected to
Affirmative Action after they graduate also. When the individual is looking to start up their career,
Affirmative Action can be a factor that denies them from obtaining that position.

I d like to start by thanking everyone who is with us today. Friends, family, staff, everyone. It s an
honor to be able to share such an incredible day with the lot of you. As we stand here today on
what can only be described as the edge of our future, it becomes very apparent that it s not a
distant reality anymore. It begins here. It begins today. We began this journey as scared little kids,
each with the same goal; to get to this stage. What we ve learned along the way will serve us as we
move on into our futures. Even though we started with the same goal, some of us will go on to
college, others will go straight to being considered the working class. Each of us, however, will travel

I was convinced that I would have had to spend another three years in public high school, which
for me was out of the question. Within the first two days of being in this program I felt entirely
different about coming to school. For once I was excited to get up and make some progress. The
program has helped me a lot with narrowing down what I want to do in my future and has helped
me map out how to get there. A part of the program, as well as a requirement for us to graduate, is
a portfolio. Which is essentially a binder of assignments that prepare us for jobs and future
educational decisions. Seems nice right? Yeah, no. I m lookin at you, Donna. In all reality
though, as much as I complained about this portfolio, and let me tell you, I complained more than
my fair share, it really did help me when it came to researching colleges and creating a resume.
The teachers, however, are the highlight of this program. I ve never in my entire schooling career
connected with teachers as much as I did with the three marvelous individuals that tried their best
to keep us on track this year. Sherry especially, or as a lot of us in the program called her, feelings,
helped me the most throughout my year here. She listened to me complain every single morning,
helped me with more things than she was required to, and when I went through a rough patch during
the year she was there to offer
Essay On Female Head Teacher
Challenges facing female head teacher s phenomenological study in the Effia Tanokrom Circuit of
the Secondi Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region of Ghana

Women just as their male counterparts, have a right to actively participate in leadership in any facets
of the society. In fact, they are permeating every domain of activities with assertiveness and proven
competence, and making in roads into hitherto male monopoly of executive management roles in
organizations especially in the developed countries. This study will seek to gain an insight into the
leadership styles adopted by female head teachers of basic school in the Effia Tanokrom Circuit of
the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region of Ghana. It will also investigate the
challenges they face in their line of duty, and how these challenges could be surmounted to enhance
their performance. The Ghana Education service and other teacher association. Significance of the
study will lie in its capacity to contribute to the debate on female leadership, particularly in our
country. It is hoped that the results of the study when disseminated through publication, will inform
prospective female head teachers in basic schools about the challenges that they should anticipate
and the various strategies they can employ to surmount the situation. It is hoped that this will
encourage female head teachers who have similar challenges to develop similar strategies to help
them. It will also serve an additional

ways for you to incorporate awesome, high protein foods into your breakfasts. Today, we are going
to tell you 10 breakfast hacks to help you build muscle (there s no need worry, your food will still

At first glance, smoothies may not seem the best for muscle building breakfast. However, there are a
bountiful number ways to level up your smoothie and make it the perfect breakfast. First of all, use a
fruit like guava. Guava has a significantly high protein content for fruit at 2.6g per 100g and it tastes

A great breakfast hack to up your protein is protein powder. Protein powder is, of course, a

My Mentor Experience Analysis
Throughout my high school years, and the past year especially, I feel that I ve grown and matured
while developing my skills in multiple areas. Through participation in community service events and
employment, the experiences I ve gained have caused me to want to continue expanding my
knowledge in a university setting. My high schoolyears have strengthened many of my skills due to
my participation in extra curricular activities. Out of the activities I ve had the opportunity to be
apart of, my proudest involvement has been my school s Peer Mentoring program. Being a peer

Ball State s large setting would give me a much broader range of diverse opportunities and
activities to pursue, along with a substantial amount of individuals to connect with. Through my
years of wanting to attend your university, I ve researched and found many activities that I m
already anxious to be apart of. One specific activity committee I m eager to join is the Ball State
University Dance Marathon for Riley s Children s Hospital. My younger brother has struggled
with Chronic Kidney Disease, so growing up, I ve been to Riley s numerous times with my
brother. Whether he s getting treatments, tests done, or when he went in to get his transplant,
Riley s Hospital has always treated my brother and my family with the greatest amount of
benevolence. I feel that by participating in the organization of this event, I would be able to give
back to Riley s for what they ve done for my family, and so many others. I look forward to joining
such a charitable organization at Ball State and hope that I ll be able to lead others in the right

Composting and Plant Growth
Review of Related Literature
HISTORY OF VERMICOMPOSTING
Vermicomposting, as an industrial process, was originally developed to remove unwanted organic
materials from the agricultural and industrial waste streams. The derived product: earthworm
castings, is now recognized as a high value material which, when blended with soil, can restore soil
tilth by correcting the imbalances caused by the over utilization of petrol chemical based fertilizers;
thus enabling crops and plants to naturally combat pests and diseases, all resulting in increased crop
production and general plant health.
Using European technology we began researching production processes and the potential of
Vermicomposting over 20 years ago. In 1991 we built the first ... Show more content on

We developed our operational protocols from this research, and this research and operational training
goes with every system.
Other investigations concentrated on the properties of Vermicompost that increased plant growth.
The increased plant growth observed greatly exceeded any of the nutrient inputs applied and all
recent plant growth trials received balancing levels of nutrient inputs to ensure nutrients were not
the cause. * Small additions of Vermicompost decreased the incidence of various plant diseases
and the numbers of plant parasitic nematodes were suppressed. * Further research investigating
production methods (Third part of Phase I and II) and effective practical applications of water
soluble elutriates for foliar application for immediate disease and pest control are ongoing. Initial
results were completed in June 2009 : Liquid Extracts for Disease and Pest Control. * Heat
sterilization of finished Vermicompost was shown to remove all plant growth enhancing properties,
but these could be restored by the addition of aqueous extracts of un sterilized Vermicompost. This
demonstrates the key factor is clearly microbial, most likely associated with plant growth regulators
and increased levels of humic acid and folic acid found in Vermicompost. * Results showed
