Turing Test Frankenstein
From movies like Ex Machina, and WarGames, to Avengers: Age of Ultron, each one accurately
depicts what will happen to mankind in the case that Artificial Superintelligence is created; utter
destruction and complete decimation. AI is one of the scariest inventions possible, as they get
smarter and smarter every time they are improved. Eventually, AI is going to become so intelligent
that they will be able to recode themselves in order to become sentient the ability to feel emotions.
To determine if a robot (or AI in this case) is sentient, they must undergo a test known as The Turing
Test . The Turing Test suggests that if the creation is able to identify an object accurately, then they
are sentient alike a human. (Baer 3) There is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example for this reasoning would be the constraints: Human intelligence has been optimized to
deal with specific constraints, like passing the head through the birth canal and calorie conservation,
whereas artificial intelligence will operate under different constraints... (Graves 2) Humans are
evolved to deal with certain events, but AI are simply created there is no birthing process or
anything of that matter; so there is a question: What would their constraints be? Then there is the
issue of the constraints of human intelligence, And trying to build a human like AI system, without
first fully understanding what makes humans tick could make the problem worse. (Graves 5) In
order to create a human like AI, the creators must first understand what it means to be human, and
the extent of human intelligence. If the creators simply created the being without knowing the
constraints of humans, they would create a monster that, alike Frankenstein s monster, would
terrorize the population. In addition, is the issue of the intellectual advantage the AI would have
over humans. As stated by the source, It is literally inconceivable how much smarter than a human a
computer would be that could do a thousand years of thinking in the equivalent of a human s day.
(Shermer 2) The equivalent of a thousand years of thinking brought us from the times of the
medieval age, to now; killing each other with swords, and

I believe that the New Colombo scholarship would allow me to engage in more units which
challenge my understanding of the world and further develop my critical thinking skills. I would
plan to choose a cultural or language unit to gain a deeper understanding of the country and
community that I would be living in. I believe that this would not only benefit my immediate
experiences whilst in the host country but also develop my ability to communicate and interact with
the science community in Australia and overseas in years to come. I am very interested in this
scholarship program for the academic opportunities it provides and encourages to develop my
learning and knowledge for the benefit of myself and the national and international community.

Leadership in the community

Throughout my life I have been committed to being a leader and role model in my community. I
have been highly committed to the Duke of Edinburgh program completing all three award levels,
Gold, Silver and Bronze. Through this program I have gained experience in communicating with
people of similar and very different circumstances and life experiences. I have volunteered at a
nursing home talking and listening to residents, preparing and serving food at a local soup kitchen
and coaching and mentoring rowers at my old high
Write An Essay On Rabies Virus
A virus by definition is any member of a unique class of infectious agents . . . that consists of
genetic material, which may be either DNA or RNA, and is surrounded by a protein coat and, in
some viruses, by a membrane envelope ( virus ). Such agents are unable to produce the necessary
nutrients to survive because they do not possess the biochemical mechanisms or organelles to
synthesize necessary elements. As a result, they feed off a living host cell by attaching to the cell s
docking proteins and injects its virusthrough the membrane. However, the cycle of a virus is more
complex than it may seem. There are eight main steps that occur in a basic virus: attachment,
penetration, uncoating, targeting, geneexpression, genome replication, virion assembly, and the
release of the new infectious virus. During attachment, the virus s attachment proteins dock on
specific receptors found on the outer membrane of certain target cells. In order for this process to
occur, the attachment proteins must bind with a certain receptor for that specific virus. For example,
the rabies virus has glycoprotein attachment molecules that bind with acetylcholine receptors on
neurons. The virus then penetrates the cell and injects its nucleic acid from the capsid, the protein
shell that protects the virus, through either... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the sixteenth century, Italian physician Girolamo Fracastoro identified the fatal disease in
humans and discovered that it was caused by a bite from a rabies infested animal and can be
transmitted to other mammals, including humans, through saliva and other bodily fluids. It affects
the mammal s nervous system and causes encephalitis, an inflammation in the brain that can result in
seizures, confusion, unconsciousness, and death. It wasn t until 1885, when a French biologist,

Compare and Contrast ancient India and Egypt combined politics and religion
Through history, religion has shaped civilizations in several aspects. In ancient Indian and Egyptian
civilizations it was very strong shaping force in political structures, but both the religious beliefs and
the resulting political system were different, just like pharaohs were different from rajas.
The way Egyptians and Indians blended religion with politics bears certain similarities. First of all,
the central role of priests, who were the Egyptians pharaohs most important advisors during the New
Kingdom and at one point gained more power than the pharaoh himself. In the other hand, in India
priests or Brahmans were also important political figures since they ... Show more content on

Because of this, priests and nobles overthrew this religious system in Egypt and regained their power.
Even though religion was an important part of the Indian political system, neither rajas nor later
emperors established a theocracy, while the Egyptian pharaohs did. In Egypt the pharaohs were
religious and political figures, in fact, during the New Kingdom they had no standing army, while
Rajas were warriors and the authority of Indian emperors also derived from military power. This is
due because Egyptian civilization was peaceful through most of its history, so religion, rather tan an
army was used to justify the pharaohs rule. In India, on the other hand, Indo Aryan tribes spread
through war, and the Indian empire was established by overthrowing the Macedonians through
military conquest. So in both the positions of the Raja and the emperor were sustained by their
ability to conquer and subdue others, even during the reign of Asoka diplomacy was used to expand
the empires domains.
As we can see, religion in India and Egypt became a factor of importance, but in clearly different
ways and yielding different structures and interactions. The religious and political structures of both
ancient civilizations can be related to the Japanese mandate of heaven. This comparison can be made
because in India and
Causes And Effects Of Deforestation
Deforestation

Introduction

Deforestation is one of the largest environmental issues facing humanity in the twenty first century.
This type of environmental degradation involves cutting down trees in natural areas, mainly forests,
in order to make room for human developments such as agriculture or infrastructure. Deforestation
has been occurring for centuries all around the world, but as technology becomes more efficient and
the human population continues to grow, the effects of deforestation now are greater than before.
More land is being removed to provide for human needs and desires, which has, in turn, negatively
affected the places being degraded as well as Earth s environment as a whole.
Biogeochemical Cycles Biogeochemical cycles are processes by which matter cycles from the living
world to the nonliving physical environment and back again, which include the carbon, water,
nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus cycles (Raven et al. 59). Trees and other plants serve as important
factors that remove carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, from the environment. As trees are being
increasingly logged, the amount of carbon dioxide that can be removed from the atmosphere is
declining. Thus, deforestation has altered the balance of the carbon cycle, as more carbon dioxide is
being released into the atmosphere at a higher rate than it can be withdrawn from the atmosphere.
Due to this higher concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide from deforestation, global climate
changes such as

All of these documents were intended to support the theory that black race was not only different
that white race but their origins came from different roots. Cartwright and Nott had similar
approach. Their explanation from the biological standpoint was in some point linked to a
religious interpretation of then bible. Thus, Cartwright depicts the origin of the three most
predominant racial groups on Earth: Asian, Europeans and Blacks. He cites the Book of Genesis
with the story of Noah and his three sons nd their settlements in three different geographical
areas: North of Europe, Asia and Africa. According to Cartwright s biblical interpretation, this last
continent was occupied by Cannan and his descendents were not only black race but also were
designated by God;s will to be servant. Josiah Nott extensively wrote papers about race. His
argument were based on a theory known as polygenesis. Nott claimed that there had been multiple
creations producing superior and inferior races and black race was destined to permanent
inferiority. George Fitzhugh s sociological opinion about slavery were irrational; he stated that
slavery was the most perfect institution ever created In his eyes it is the most perfect institution
ever created. Southern slavery is perfect, because like the family dog, slaves are happy to be

Decline of Biblical Christianity and Rise of Modern ...
Christianity has quickly begun to lose its true meaning throughout the years. It s when people use
words like love and morals and common sense they just don t have the same meaning as they once
did all those years ago. Christianity though, unlike the previously stated words, has been modernized
in such ways that we have deceivingly altered things such as The Ten Commandments to foolishly fit
our desired lifestyles. We have begun a modernization of ChristianityI like to refer to as, Twenty First
Century Christianity. Christianity within itself has been the most complex simple part of life many
have ever had to endure, until really the late 1900 s when simplicity became the American standard
for most. First it was transportation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christianity is no longer a category in religion, but also a category of specific people ranging from,
yes again, modernized Christians who talk the talk but have no desire to walk the walk; and those
who are called radicles because they live out the Gospel teachings going overseas and devoting their
lives to Christ. Now what are the differences between cultural (modern) Christian and biblical
Christian lifestyles? Well as David Platt put it in his book Radicle, We are settling for a
Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is
actually about abandoning ourselves. Basically, David Platt was kindly beating around the bush
about us as an American culture, his book Radicle being strictly about American Christian culture,
being lukewarm in our faith, relationship and devotion to Christ in the way we live. In Revelation
3:16, So, because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Harsh? Yeah, probably a little bit, and one might see this and do what many do in this era; see it,
curse it, and go about their lukewarm Christian lifestyle as they have been. You see, this is where
our instant gratification society begins to crumble. To live as the Bible commands us to also involves
Confucianism Essay
Confucianism

Mencius vs Hsun Tzu

Is man naturally good or is he evil? This question has not only been pondered by countless
philosophers, but also by religious leaders around the world. Most often a single religious faith
believes in either one or the other, and often these beliefs tend to create a certain world view which
dictates much of the faith. However, in some cases such as the one I will be discussing, two
religious dignitaries do not agree and the repercussions of this can be found throughout the religion.
The two men are Mencius, an early pupil of Confucius and Hsun Tzu, a later follower of the same
faith. Mencius believed that each man, born of woman, would be naturally good and Hsun Tzu ...

Not much is known about Mencius or Hsun Tzu, but some basic information stirs around various
interpretations of their works. Mencius was found to be one of the most important pupils of
Confucius, he continued his work and added many new outlooks and clarity to some of Confucius
amp;#8217; teachings. Hsun Tzu, on the other hand, was a very well journeyed man. He had been
surrounded by war, involved in politics and had a much greater variety of experience than that of
Mencius or Confucius. Hsun Tzu came be a few years after Mencius amp;#8217; death and put a
spin on Confucian beliefs and ideas. The difference in their beliefs is where the faith is defined,
through the teachings of Mencius and Hsun Tzu a large problem arose. This problem was their
views on human nature. Their differing ideas came to shape Confucianism into what it is today, and
their differing world views can explain a lot about their teachings.

When dealing with these two ideas, we must first decipher what is meant by amp;#8220;nature ; in
the sense that Mencius and Hsun Tzu discuss. They are calling nature all the abilities that man is
born with, the instincts which make a man human. Gut feelings, emotions and passions that are
instilled in every human being from the moment of their conception. And finally a world view is, as
philosophers would call it, an idea with which other ideas are based. An idea which influences basic
decision making and
Cleopatra as a Historical Figure Essay
Cleopatra as a Historical Figure

In hieroglyphs, the name reads Kleopadra . It is a name which in Greek means Glory of Her
Race (Weigall, 44). It is a name belonging to a woman who has transcended the boundaries of time
so that we may know her story. What better way to describe Cleopatra, the last Queen of Egypt,
Ruler of the Nile, sent from the Gods themselves to lead her people, than Glory of Her Race ?
Cleopatra, the last ruling descendant of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, has arguably unparalleled fame as a
female historical figure.

Yet we must ask ourselves: why? What is it about this individual that strikes us as so intriguing that
we, like the Elizabethans before us, centuries ago, like the Romans two millennia past, should ...

Shakespeare s play, Antony and Cleopatra, shows this juxtaposition of the East and West as well,
especially through the characters in the play. The opulence and sensuality of the East is personified
by Cleopatra, whereas the moral solidity and observance of duty is beheld in Octavius. Mark
Antony is torn between the two ideals, his duty as a Roman, and his obvious desire to indulge in the
hedonistic way of the East.

This exoticness of Cleopatra leads to a general view of her, both by the Egyptian and Roman
populace, as having an other worldliness quality about, a strange mysticism. This is reinforced by
Cleopatra s constant referral of herself as Isis, one of the more powerful Egyptian goddesses.
Cleopatra is said to ...have attired herself...that which was supposed... to have been worn by the
mother deity Isis (Weigall, 45). By identifying herself with a goddess, Cleopatra is merely continuing
the custom that the Pharaohs of old used to practice. Isis, whose Latin epithet, Stella Maris, means
Star Of The Sea, is of particular importance to Cleopatra not only because she is an extremely
strong, religious image of feminine power, but she is also often depicted as a personification of the
throne itself, thus
Push and Pull Factors for Chinese Immigrants Essay
Push and Pull Factors for Chinese Immigrants
In many cases throughout America s history immigrants have settled here for many different
reasons. In conclusion these reasons were known as push and pull factors. Push factors are factors
that repel migrants from their country. And pull factors are factors that attract migrants to move. In
my main immigrant group which is the Chinese, there were several push and pull factors that I
will be mentioning. First, some of the push factors that were included in my group were the fact
that there were a lot of disasters. For example there was draught, poverty, a famine, and floods were
also included in these disasters. To state these factors more specifically, it was around the 1840s and
1850s when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, there were many opportunities that the U.S itself presented to Chinese immigrants that
were very desirable. For example the United States presented different variety of jobs. Such as
Chinese gold miners, this was very exquisitely beneficial to them, because most of the Chinese s
reason for migrating to the United State was because at that time gold was discovered their. The
Chinese did not only mind for gold other jobs were also included like, cooks, storekeepers,
launderers, railroad workers, and household servants. And the two main jobs that you can find
the most variety of numbers of Chinese were miners and railroad workers. In fact of the railroad
jobs, for them it was a decent paying job. It was a pretty good amount of number of Chinese
immigrants that were railroad workers; it was approximately ten thousand of them. And as I stated
before the pay was pretty decent, the average railroad payroll for Chinese immigrants was about
thirty five dollars a month. But their pay check would soon decrease during the day. Because the
cost of food was about fifteen to eighteen dollars, so basically a Chinese railroad worker would
make twenty dollars a month. Even though through the good payments the two main well paying
jobs the Chinese had were very dangerous in many conditions. For instance, when they usually work
in mines
